1Forasmuchasmanyhavetakeninhandtosetforthin orderadeclarationofthosethingswhicharemostsurely believedamongus,

2Evenastheydeliveredthemuntous,whichfromthe beginningwereeyewitnesses,andministersoftheword;

3Itseemedgoodtomealso,havinghadperfect understandingofallthingsfromtheveryfirst,towriteunto theeinorder,mostexcellentTheophilus,

4Thatthoumightestknowthecertaintyofthosethings, whereinthouhastbeeninstructed.

5TherewasinthedaysofHerod,thekingofJudaea,a certainpriestnamedZacharias,ofthecourseofAbia:and hiswifewasofthedaughtersofAaron,andhernamewas Elisabeth

6AndtheywerebothrighteousbeforeGod,walkinginall thecommandmentsandordinancesoftheLordblameless.

7Andtheyhadnochild,becausethatElisabethwasbarren, andtheybothwerenowwellstrickeninyears

8Anditcametopass,thatwhileheexecutedthepriest's officebeforeGodintheorderofhiscourse,

9Accordingtothecustomofthepriest'soffice,hislotwas toburnincensewhenhewentintothetempleoftheLord.

10Andthewholemultitudeofthepeoplewerepraying withoutatthetimeofincense

11AndthereappeareduntohimanangeloftheLord standingontherightsideofthealtarofincense

12AndwhenZachariassawhim,hewastroubled,andfear felluponhim.

13Buttheangelsaiduntohim,Fearnot,Zacharias:forthy prayerisheard;andthywifeElisabethshallbeartheeason, andthoushaltcallhisnameJohn.

14Andthoushalthavejoyandgladness;andmanyshall rejoiceathisbirth.

15ForheshallbegreatinthesightoftheLord,andshall drinkneitherwinenorstrongdrink;andheshallbefilled withtheHolyGhost,evenfromhismother'swomb

16AndmanyofthechildrenofIsraelshallheturntothe LordtheirGod

17Andheshallgobeforehiminthespiritandpowerof Elias,toturntheheartsofthefatherstothechildren,and thedisobedienttothewisdomofthejust;tomakereadya peoplepreparedfortheLord.

18AndZachariassaiduntotheangel,WherebyshallI knowthis?forIamanoldman,andmywifewellstricken inyears.

19Andtheangelansweringsaiduntohim,IamGabriel, thatstandinthepresenceofGod;andamsenttospeak untothee,andtoshewtheethesegladtidings.

20And,behold,thoushaltbedumb,andnotabletospeak, untilthedaythatthesethingsshallbeperformed,because thoubelievestnotmywords,whichshallbefulfilledin theirseason

21AndthepeoplewaitedforZacharias,andmarvelledthat hetarriedsolonginthetemple.

22Andwhenhecameout,hecouldnotspeakuntothem: andtheyperceivedthathehadseenavisioninthetemple: forhebeckoneduntothem,andremainedspeechless.

23Anditcametopass,that,assoonasthedaysofhis ministrationwereaccomplished,hedepartedtohisown house.

24AndafterthosedayshiswifeElisabethconceived,and hidherselffivemonths,saying,

25ThushaththeLorddealtwithmeinthedayswhereinhe lookedonme,totakeawaymyreproachamongmen

26AndinthesixthmonththeangelGabrielwassentfrom GoduntoacityofGalilee,namedNazareth,

27ToavirginespousedtoamanwhosenamewasJoseph, ofthehouseofDavid;andthevirgin'snamewasMary

28Andtheangelcameinuntoher,andsaid,Hail,thouthat arthighlyfavoured,theLordiswiththee:blessedartthou amongwomen

29Andwhenshesawhim,shewastroubledathissaying, andcastinhermindwhatmannerofsalutationthisshould be

30Andtheangelsaiduntoher,Fearnot,Mary:forthou hastfoundfavourwithGod

31And,behold,thoushaltconceiveinthywomb,and bringforthason,andshaltcallhisnameJESUS.

32Heshallbegreat,andshallbecalledtheSonofthe Highest:andtheLordGodshallgiveuntohimthethrone ofhisfatherDavid:

33AndheshallreignoverthehouseofJacobforever;and ofhiskingdomthereshallbenoend

34ThensaidMaryuntotheangel,Howshallthisbe, seeingIknownotaman?

35Andtheangelansweredandsaiduntoher,TheHoly Ghostshallcomeuponthee,andthepoweroftheHighest shallovershadowthee:thereforealsothatholythingwhich shallbebornoftheeshallbecalledtheSonofGod.

36And,behold,thycousinElisabeth,shehathalso conceivedasoninheroldage:andthisisthesixthmonth withher,whowascalledbarren.

37ForwithGodnothingshallbeimpossible.

38AndMarysaid,BeholdthehandmaidoftheLord;beit untomeaccordingtothyword.Andtheangeldeparted fromher

39AndMaryaroseinthosedays,andwentintothehill countrywithhaste,intoacityofJuda;

40AndenteredintothehouseofZacharias,andsaluted Elisabeth

41Anditcametopass,that,whenElisabethheardthe salutationofMary,thebabeleapedinherwomb;and ElisabethwasfilledwiththeHolyGhost:

42Andshespakeoutwithaloudvoice,andsaid,Blessed artthouamongwomen,andblessedisthefruitofthy womb

43Andwhenceisthistome,thatthemotherofmyLord shouldcometome?

44For,lo,assoonasthevoiceofthysalutationsoundedin mineears,thebabeleapedinmywombforjoy.

45Andblessedisshethatbelieved:forthereshallbea performanceofthosethingswhichweretoldherfromthe Lord.

46AndMarysaid,MysouldothmagnifytheLord, 47AndmyspirithathrejoicedinGodmySaviour

48Forhehathregardedthelowestateofhishandmaiden: for,behold,fromhenceforthallgenerationsshallcallme blessed

49Forhethatismightyhathdonetomegreatthings;and holyishisname

50Andhismercyisonthemthatfearhimfromgeneration togeneration.

51Hehathshewedstrengthwithhisarm;hehathscattered theproudintheimaginationoftheirhearts.

52Hehathputdownthemightyfromtheirseats,and exaltedthemoflowdegree

53Hehathfilledthehungrywithgoodthings;andtherich hehathsentemptyaway.

54HehathholpenhisservantIsrael,inremembranceofhis mercy;

55Ashespaketoourfathers,toAbraham,andtohisseed forever

56AndMaryabodewithheraboutthreemonths,and returnedtoherownhouse

57NowElisabeth'sfulltimecamethatsheshouldbe delivered;andshebroughtforthason.

58AndherneighboursandhercousinsheardhowtheLord hadshewedgreatmercyuponher;andtheyrejoicedwith her.

59Anditcametopass,thatontheeighthdaytheycameto circumcisethechild;andtheycalledhimZacharias,after thenameofhisfather.

60Andhismotheransweredandsaid,Notso;butheshall becalledJohn

61Andtheysaiduntoher,Thereisnoneofthykindred thatiscalledbythisname

62Andtheymadesignstohisfather,howhewouldhave himcalled.

63Andheaskedforawritingtable,andwrote,saying,His nameisJohnAndtheymarvelledall

64Andhismouthwasopenedimmediately,andhistongue loosed,andhespake,andpraisedGod

65Andfearcameonallthatdweltroundaboutthem:and allthesesayingswerenoisedabroadthroughoutallthehill countryofJudaea

66Andalltheythatheardthemlaidthemupintheirhearts, saying,Whatmannerofchildshallthisbe!Andthehand oftheLordwaswithhim

67AndhisfatherZachariaswasfilledwiththeHolyGhost, andprophesied,saying,

68BlessedbetheLordGodofIsrael;forhehathvisited andredeemedhispeople,

69Andhathraisedupanhornofsalvationforusinthe houseofhisservantDavid;

70Ashespakebythemouthofhisholyprophets,which havebeensincetheworldbegan:

71Thatweshouldbesavedfromourenemies,andfrom thehandofallthathateus;

72Toperformthemercypromisedtoourfathers,andto rememberhisholycovenant;

73TheoathwhichheswaretoourfatherAbraham,

74Thathewouldgrantuntous,thatwebeingdeliveredout ofthehandofourenemiesmightservehimwithoutfear,

75Inholinessandrighteousnessbeforehim,allthedaysof ourlife

76Andthou,child,shaltbecalledtheprophetofthe Highest:forthoushaltgobeforethefaceoftheLordto preparehisways;

77Togiveknowledgeofsalvationuntohispeoplebythe remissionoftheirsins,

78ThroughthetendermercyofourGod;wherebythe dayspringfromonhighhathvisitedus,

79Togivelighttothemthatsitindarknessandinthe shadowofdeath,toguideourfeetintothewayofpeace.

80Andthechildgrew,andwaxedstronginspirit,andwas inthedesertstillthedayofhisshewinguntoIsrael.

CHAPTER2

1Anditcametopassinthosedays,thattherewentouta decreefromCaesarAugustus,thatalltheworldshouldbe taxed

2(AndthistaxingwasfirstmadewhenCyreniuswas governorofSyria)

3Andallwenttobetaxed,everyoneintohisowncity.

4AndJosephalsowentupfromGalilee,outofthecityof Nazareth,intoJudaea,untothecityofDavid,whichis calledBethlehem;(becausehewasofthehouseand lineageofDavid:)

5TobetaxedwithMaryhisespousedwife,beinggreat withchild.

6Andsoitwas,that,whiletheywerethere,thedayswere accomplishedthatsheshouldbedelivered

7Andshebroughtforthherfirstbornson,andwrapped himinswaddlingclothes,andlaidhiminamanger; becausetherewasnoroomforthemintheinn

8Andtherewereinthesamecountryshepherdsabidingin thefield,keepingwatchovertheirflockbynight

9And,lo,theangeloftheLordcameuponthem,andthe gloryoftheLordshoneroundaboutthem:andtheywere soreafraid

10Andtheangelsaiduntothem,Fearnot:for,behold,I bringyougoodtidingsofgreatjoy,whichshallbetoall people

11ForuntoyouisbornthisdayinthecityofDavida Saviour,whichisChristtheLord.

12Andthisshallbeasignuntoyou;Yeshallfindthebabe wrappedinswaddlingclothes,lyinginamanger

13Andsuddenlytherewaswiththeangelamultitudeof theheavenlyhostpraisingGod,andsaying, 14GlorytoGodinthehighest,andonearthpeace,good willtowardmen.

15Anditcametopass,astheangelsweregoneawayfrom themintoheaven,theshepherdssaidonetoanother,Letus nowgoevenuntoBethlehem,andseethisthingwhichis cometopass,whichtheLordhathmadeknownuntous

16Andtheycamewithhaste,andfoundMary,andJoseph, andthebabelyinginamanger.

17Andwhentheyhadseenit,theymadeknownabroad thesayingwhichwastoldthemconcerningthischild.

18Andalltheythathearditwonderedatthosethings whichweretoldthembytheshepherds

19ButMarykeptallthesethings,andponderedthemin herheart.

20Andtheshepherdsreturned,glorifyingandpraising Godforallthethingsthattheyhadheardandseen,asit wastolduntothem

21Andwheneightdayswereaccomplishedforthe circumcisingofthechild,hisnamewascalledJESUS, whichwassonamedoftheangelbeforehewasconceived inthewomb

22Andwhenthedaysofherpurificationaccordingtothe lawofMoseswereaccomplished,theybroughthimto Jerusalem,topresenthimtotheLord;

23(AsitiswritteninthelawoftheLord,Everymalethat openeththewombshallbecalledholytotheLord;)

24Andtoofferasacrificeaccordingtothatwhichissaid inthelawoftheLord,Apairofturtledoves,ortwoyoung pigeons.

25And,behold,therewasamaninJerusalem,whose namewasSimeon;andthesamemanwasjustanddevout, waitingfortheconsolationofIsrael:andtheHolyGhost wasuponhim

26AnditwasrevealeduntohimbytheHolyGhost,thathe shouldnotseedeath,beforehehadseentheLord'sChrist

27AndhecamebytheSpiritintothetemple:andwhenthe parentsbroughtinthechildJesus,todoforhimafterthe customofthelaw,

28Thentookhehimupinhisarms,andblessedGod,and said,

29Lord,nowlettestthouthyservantdepartinpeace, accordingtothyword:

30Formineeyeshaveseenthysalvation,

31Whichthouhastpreparedbeforethefaceofallpeople;

32AlighttolightentheGentiles,andthegloryofthy peopleIsrael.

33AndJosephandhismothermarvelledatthosethings whichwerespokenofhim

34AndSimeonblessedthem,andsaiduntoMaryhis mother,Behold,thischildissetforthefallandrisingagain ofmanyinIsrael;andforasignwhichshallbespoken against;

35(Yea,aswordshallpiercethroughthyownsoulalso,) thatthethoughtsofmanyheartsmayberevealed

36AndtherewasoneAnna,aprophetess,thedaughterof Phanuel,ofthetribeofAser:shewasofagreatage,and hadlivedwithanhusbandsevenyearsfromhervirginity;

37Andshewasawidowofaboutfourscoreandfouryears, whichdepartednotfromthetemple,butservedGodwith fastingsandprayersnightandday

38Andshecominginthatinstantgavethankslikewise untotheLord,andspakeofhimtoallthemthatlookedfor redemptioninJerusalem

39Andwhentheyhadperformedallthingsaccordingto thelawoftheLord,theyreturnedintoGalilee,totheirown cityNazareth

40Andthechildgrew,andwaxedstronginspirit,filled withwisdom:andthegraceofGodwasuponhim

41NowhisparentswenttoJerusalemeveryyearatthe feastofthepassover.

42Andwhenhewastwelveyearsold,theywentupto Jerusalemafterthecustomofthefeast.

43Andwhentheyhadfulfilledthedays,astheyreturned, thechildJesustarriedbehindinJerusalem;andJosephand hismotherknewnotofit

44Butthey,supposinghimtohavebeeninthecompany, wentaday'sjourney;andtheysoughthimamongtheir kinsfolkandacquaintance

45Andwhentheyfoundhimnot,theyturnedbackagainto Jerusalem,seekinghim

46Anditcametopass,thatafterthreedaystheyfound himinthetemple,sittinginthemidstofthedoctors,both hearingthem,andaskingthemquestions

47Andallthatheardhimwereastonishedathis understandingandanswers

48Andwhentheysawhim,theywereamazed:andhis mothersaiduntohim,Son,whyhastthouthusdealtwith us?behold,thyfatherandIhavesoughttheesorrowing 49Andhesaiduntothem,Howisitthatyesoughtme? wistyenotthatImustbeaboutmyFather'sbusiness?

50Andtheyunderstoodnotthesayingwhichhespake untothem

51Andhewentdownwiththem,andcametoNazareth, andwassubjectuntothem:buthismotherkeptallthese sayingsinherheart

52AndJesusincreasedinwisdomandstature,andin favourwithGodandman

CHAPTER3

1NowinthefifteenthyearofthereignofTiberiusCaesar, PontiusPilatebeinggovernorofJudaea,andHerodbeing tetrarchofGalilee,andhisbrotherPhiliptetrarchofIturaea andoftheregionofTrachonitis,andLysaniasthetetrarch ofAbilene,

2AnnasandCaiaphasbeingthehighpriests,thewordof GodcameuntoJohnthesonofZachariasinthewilderness. 3AndhecameintoallthecountryaboutJordan,preaching thebaptismofrepentancefortheremissionofsins;

4AsitiswritteninthebookofthewordsofEsaiasthe prophet,saying,Thevoiceofonecryinginthewilderness, PrepareyethewayoftheLord,makehispathsstraight 5Everyvalleyshallbefilled,andeverymountainandhill shallbebroughtlow;andthecrookedshallbemade straight,andtheroughwaysshallbemadesmooth;

6AndallfleshshallseethesalvationofGod.

7Thensaidhetothemultitudethatcameforthtobe baptizedofhim,Ogenerationofvipers,whohathwarned youtofleefromthewrathtocome?

8Bringforththereforefruitsworthyofrepentance,and beginnottosaywithinyourselves,WehaveAbrahamto ourfather:forIsayuntoyou,ThatGodisableofthese stonestoraiseupchildrenuntoAbraham

9Andnowalsotheaxeislaiduntotherootofthetrees: everytreethereforewhichbringethnotforthgoodfruitis hewndown,andcastintothefire

10Andthepeopleaskedhim,saying,Whatshallwedo then?

11Heanswerethandsaithuntothem,Hethathathtwo coats,lethimimparttohimthathathnone;andhethathath meat,lethimdolikewise.

12Thencamealsopublicanstobebaptized,andsaidunto him,Master,whatshallwedo?

13Andhesaiduntothem,Exactnomorethanthatwhich isappointedyou

14Andthesoldierslikewisedemandedofhim,saying, Andwhatshallwedo?Andhesaiduntothem,Doviolence tonoman,neitheraccuseanyfalsely;andbecontentwith yourwages

15Andasthepeoplewereinexpectation,andallmen musedintheirheartsofJohn,whetherheweretheChrist, ornot;

16Johnanswered,sayinguntothemall,Iindeedbaptize youwithwater;butonemightierthanIcometh,thelatchet ofwhoseshoesIamnotworthytounloose:heshall baptizeyouwiththeHolyGhostandwithfire:

17Whosefanisinhishand,andhewillthroughlypurge hisfloor,andwillgatherthewheatintohisgarner;butthe chaffhewillburnwithfireunquenchable

18Andmanyotherthingsinhisexhortationpreachedhe untothepeople.

19ButHerodthetetrarch,beingreprovedbyhimfor HerodiashisbrotherPhilip'swife,andforalltheevils whichHerodhaddone,

20Addedyetthisaboveall,thatheshutupJohninprison

21Nowwhenallthepeoplewerebaptized,itcametopass, thatJesusalsobeingbaptized,andpraying,theheavenwas opened,

22AndtheHolyGhostdescendedinabodilyshapelikea doveuponhim,andavoicecamefromheaven,whichsaid, ThouartmybelovedSon;intheeIamwellpleased

23AndJesushimselfbegantobeaboutthirtyyearsofage, being(aswassupposed)thesonofJoseph,whichwasthe sonofHeli,

24WhichwasthesonofMatthat,whichwasthesonof Levi,whichwasthesonofMelchi,whichwasthesonof Janna,whichwasthesonofJoseph, 25WhichwasthesonofMattathias,whichwasthesonof Amos,whichwasthesonofNaum,whichwasthesonof Esli,whichwasthesonofNagge,

26WhichwasthesonofMaath,whichwasthesonof Mattathias,whichwasthesonofSemei,whichwastheson ofJoseph,whichwasthesonofJuda,

27WhichwasthesonofJoanna,whichwasthesonof Rhesa,whichwasthesonofZorobabel,whichwastheson ofSalathiel,whichwasthesonofNeri,

28WhichwasthesonofMelchi,whichwasthesonof Addi,whichwasthesonofCosam,whichwasthesonof Elmodam,whichwasthesonofEr,

29WhichwasthesonofJose,whichwasthesonof Eliezer,whichwasthesonofJorim,whichwasthesonof Matthat,whichwasthesonofLevi,

30WhichwasthesonofSimeon,whichwasthesonof Juda,whichwasthesonofJoseph,whichwasthesonof Jonan,whichwasthesonofEliakim,

31WhichwasthesonofMelea,whichwasthesonof Menan,whichwasthesonofMattatha,whichwastheson ofNathan,whichwasthesonofDavid,

32WhichwasthesonofJesse,whichwasthesonofObed, whichwasthesonofBooz,whichwasthesonofSalmon, whichwasthesonofNaasson,

33WhichwasthesonofAminadab,whichwasthesonof Aram,whichwasthesonofEsrom,whichwasthesonof Phares,whichwasthesonofJuda,

CHAPTER4

1AndJesusbeingfulloftheHolyGhostreturnedfrom Jordan,andwasledbytheSpiritintothewilderness, 2Beingfortydaystemptedofthedevil.Andinthosedays hedideatnothing:andwhentheywereended,he afterwardhungered

3Andthedevilsaiduntohim,IfthoubetheSonofGod, commandthisstonethatitbemadebread

4AndJesusansweredhim,saying,Itiswritten,Thatman shallnotlivebybreadalone,butbyeverywordofGod

5Andthedevil,takinghimupintoanhighmountain, sheweduntohimallthekingdomsoftheworldina momentoftime

6Andthedevilsaiduntohim,AllthispowerwillIgive thee,andthegloryofthem:forthatisdelivereduntome; andtowhomsoeverIwillIgiveit

7Ifthouthereforewiltworshipme,allshallbethine

8AndJesusansweredandsaiduntohim,Gettheebehind me,Satan:foritiswritten,ThoushaltworshiptheLordthy God,andhimonlyshaltthouserve

9AndhebroughthimtoJerusalem,andsethimona pinnacleofthetemple,andsaiduntohim,Ifthoubethe SonofGod,castthyselfdownfromhence:

10Foritiswritten,Heshallgivehisangelschargeover thee,tokeepthee:

11Andintheirhandstheyshallbeartheeup,lestatany timethoudashthyfootagainstastone.

12AndJesusansweringsaiduntohim,Itissaid,Thou shaltnottempttheLordthyGod

13Andwhenthedevilhadendedallthetemptation,he departedfromhimforaseason

14AndJesusreturnedinthepoweroftheSpiritinto Galilee:andtherewentoutafameofhimthroughallthe regionroundabout

15Andhetaughtintheirsynagogues,beingglorifiedofall 16AndhecametoNazareth,wherehehadbeenbrought up:and,ashiscustomwas,hewentintothesynagogueon thesabbathday,andstoodupfortoread

17Andtherewasdelivereduntohimthebookofthe prophetEsaiasAndwhenhehadopenedthebook,he foundtheplacewhereitwaswritten,

18TheSpiritoftheLordisuponme,becausehehath anointedmetopreachthegospeltothepoor;hehathsent metohealthebrokenhearted,topreachdeliverancetothe captives,andrecoveringofsighttotheblind,tosetat libertythemthatarebruised,

19TopreachtheacceptableyearoftheLord.

20Andheclosedthebook,andhegaveitagaintothe minister,andsatdownAndtheeyesofallthemthatwere inthesynagoguewerefastenedonhim

21Andhebegantosayuntothem,Thisdayisthis scripturefulfilledinyourears

22Andallbarehimwitness,andwonderedatthegracious wordswhichproceededoutofhismouthAndtheysaid,Is notthisJoseph'sson?

23Andhesaiduntothem,Yewillsurelysayuntomethis proverb,Physician,healthyself:whatsoeverwehaveheard doneinCapernaum,doalsohereinthycountry

24Andhesaid,VerilyIsayuntoyou,Noprophetis acceptedinhisowncountry

25ButItellyouofatruth,manywidowswereinIsraelin thedaysofElias,whentheheavenwasshutupthreeyears andsixmonths,whengreatfaminewasthroughoutallthe land;

26ButuntononeofthemwasEliassent,saveuntoSarepta, acityofSidon,untoawomanthatwasawidow

27AndmanyleperswereinIsraelinthetimeofEliseus theprophet;andnoneofthemwascleansed,saving NaamantheSyrian

28Andalltheyinthesynagogue,whentheyheardthese things,werefilledwithwrath,

29Androseup,andthrusthimoutofthecity,andledhim untothebrowofthehillwhereontheircitywasbuilt,that theymightcasthimdownheadlong

30Buthepassingthroughthemidstofthemwenthisway,

31AndcamedowntoCapernaum,acityofGalilee,and taughtthemonthesabbathdays

32Andtheywereastonishedathisdoctrine:forhisword waswithpower.

33Andinthesynagoguetherewasaman,whichhada spiritofanuncleandevil,andcriedoutwithaloudvoice, 34Saying,Letusalone;whathavewetodowiththee, thouJesusofNazareth?artthoucometodestroyus?I knowtheewhothouart;theHolyOneofGod

35AndJesusrebukedhim,saying,Holdthypeace,and comeoutofhimAndwhenthedevilhadthrownhimin themidst,hecameoutofhim,andhurthimnot

39Returntothineownhouse,andshewhowgreatthings GodhathdoneuntotheeAndhewenthisway,and

publishedthroughoutthewholecityhowgreatthingsJesus haddoneuntohim.

40Anditcametopass,that,whenJesuswasreturned,the peoplegladlyreceivedhim:fortheywereallwaitingfor him.

41And,behold,therecameamannamedJairus,andhe wasarulerofthesynagogue:andhefelldownatJesus' feet,andbesoughthimthathewouldcomeintohishouse: 42Forhehadoneonlydaughter,abouttwelveyearsofage, andshelayadyingButashewentthepeoplethronged him

43Andawomanhavinganissueofbloodtwelveyears, whichhadspentallherlivinguponphysicians,neither couldbehealedofany,

44Camebehindhim,andtouchedtheborderofhis garment:andimmediatelyherissueofbloodstanched.

45AndJesussaid,Whotouchedme?Whenalldenied, Peterandtheythatwerewithhimsaid,Master,the multitudethrongtheeandpressthee,andsayestthou,Who touchedme?

46AndJesussaid,Somebodyhathtouchedme:forI perceivethatvirtueisgoneoutofme.

47Andwhenthewomansawthatshewasnothid,she cametrembling,andfallingdownbeforehim,shedeclared untohimbeforeallthepeopleforwhatcauseshehad touchedhim,andhowshewashealedimmediately

48Andhesaiduntoher,Daughter,beofgoodcomfort:thy faithhathmadetheewhole;goinpeace.

49Whileheyetspake,therecomethonefromtherulerof thesynagogue'shouse,sayingtohim,Thydaughterisdead; troublenottheMaster.

50ButwhenJesusheardit,heansweredhim,saying,Fear not:believeonly,andsheshallbemadewhole

51Andwhenhecameintothehouse,hesufferednoman togoin,savePeter,andJames,andJohn,andthefather andthemotherofthemaiden

52Andallwept,andbewailedher:buthesaid,Weepnot; sheisnotdead,butsleepeth

53Andtheylaughedhimtoscorn,knowingthatshewas dead.

54Andheputthemallout,andtookherbythehand,and called,saying,Maid,arise

55Andherspiritcameagain,andshearosestraightway: andhecommandedtogivehermeat

1Thenhecalledhistwelvedisciplestogether,andgave thempowerandauthorityoveralldevils,andtocure diseases.

2AndhesentthemtopreachthekingdomofGod,andto healthesick

3Andhesaiduntothem,Takenothingforyourjourney, neitherstaves,norscrip,neitherbread,neithermoney; neitherhavetwocoatsapiece.

4Andwhatsoeverhouseyeenterinto,thereabide,and thencedepart

5Andwhosoeverwillnotreceiveyou,whenyegooutof thatcity,shakeofftheverydustfromyourfeetfora testimonyagainstthem

6Andtheydeparted,andwentthroughthetowns, preachingthegospel,andhealingeverywhere.

7NowHerodthetetrarchheardofallthatwasdonebyhim: andhewasperplexed,becausethatitwassaidofsome, thatJohnwasrisenfromthedead;

8Andofsome,thatEliashadappeared;andofothers,that oneoftheoldprophetswasrisenagain

9AndHerodsaid,JohnhaveIbeheaded:butwhoisthis, ofwhomIhearsuchthings?Andhedesiredtoseehim

10Andtheapostles,whentheywerereturned,toldhimall thattheyhaddoneAndhetookthem,andwentaside privatelyintoadesertplacebelongingtothecitycalled Bethsaida.

16Thenhetookthefiveloavesandthetwofishes,and lookinguptoheaven,heblessedthem,andbrake,andgave tothedisciplestosetbeforethemultitude

17Andtheydideat,andwereallfilled:andtherewas takenupoffragmentsthatremainedtothemtwelvebaskets.

46Thentherearoseareasoningamongthem,whichof themshouldbegreatest

47AndJesus,perceivingthethoughtoftheirheart,tooka child,andsethimbyhim,

1AfterthesethingstheLordappointedotherseventyalso, andsentthemtwoandtwobeforehisfaceintoeverycity andplace,whitherhehimselfwouldcome.

2Thereforesaidheuntothem,Theharvesttrulyisgreat, butthelabourersarefew:prayyethereforetheLordofthe harvest,thathewouldsendforthlabourersintohisharvest.

3Goyourways:behold,Isendyouforthaslambsamong wolves

4Carryneitherpurse,norscrip,norshoes:andsaluteno manbytheway

5Andintowhatsoeverhouseyeenter,firstsay,Peacebeto thishouse.

6Andifthesonofpeacebethere,yourpeaceshallrest uponit:ifnot,itshallturntoyouagain

7Andinthesamehouseremain,eatinganddrinkingsuch thingsastheygive:forthelabourerisworthyofhishire Gonotfromhousetohouse.

9Andhealthesickthataretherein,andsayuntothem,The kingdomofGodiscomenighuntoyou.

10Butintowhatsoevercityyeenter,andtheyreceiveyou not,goyourwaysoutintothestreetsofthesame,andsay, 11Eventheverydustofyourcity,whichcleavethonus, wedowipeoffagainstyou:notwithstandingbeyesureof this,thatthekingdomofGodiscomenighuntoyou.

12ButIsayuntoyou,thatitshallbemoretolerableinthat dayforSodom,thanforthatcity

13Woeuntothee,Chorazin!woeuntothee,Bethsaida!for ifthemightyworkshadbeendoneinTyreandSidon,

whichhavebeendoneinyou,theyhadagreatwhileago repented,sittinginsackclothandashes.

14ButitshallbemoretolerableforTyreandSidonatthe judgment,thanforyou.

15Andthou,Capernaum,whichartexaltedtoheaven, shaltbethrustdowntohell

16Hethathearethyouhearethme;andhethatdespiseth youdespisethme;andhethatdespisethmedespisethhim thatsentme

17Andtheseventyreturnedagainwithjoy,saying,Lord, eventhedevilsaresubjectuntousthroughthyname

1Inthemeantime,whenthereweregatheredtogetheran innumerablemultitudeofpeople,insomuchthattheytrode oneuponanother,hebegantosayuntohisdisciplesfirstof all,BewareyeoftheleavenofthePharisees,whichis hypocrisy.

2Forthereisnothingcovered,thatshallnotberevealed; neitherhid,thatshallnotbeknown.

3Thereforewhatsoeveryehavespokenindarknessshall beheardinthelight;andthatwhichyehavespokeninthe earinclosetsshallbeproclaimeduponthehousetops

4AndIsayuntoyoumyfriends,Benotafraidofthemthat killthebody,andafterthathavenomorethattheycando

5ButIwillforewarnyouwhomyeshallfear:Fearhim, whichafterhehathkilledhathpowertocastintohell;yea, Isayuntoyou,Fearhim

6Arenotfivesparrowssoldfortwofarthings,andnotone ofthemisforgottenbeforeGod?

7Buteventheveryhairsofyourheadareallnumbered Fearnottherefore:yeareofmorevaluethanmany sparrows

8AlsoIsayuntoyou,Whosoevershallconfessmebefore men,himshalltheSonofmanalsoconfessbeforethe angelsofGod:

9Buthethatdeniethmebeforemenshallbedeniedbefore theangelsofGod.

10AndwhosoevershallspeakawordagainsttheSonof man,itshallbeforgivenhim:butuntohimthat blasphemethagainsttheHolyGhostitshallnotbeforgiven.

11Andwhentheybringyouuntothesynagogues,andunto magistrates,andpowers,takeyenothoughthoworwhat thingyeshallanswer,orwhatyeshallsay:

23Andtheybegantoenquireamongthemselves,whichof themitwasthatshoulddothisthing

24Andtherewasalsoastrifeamongthem,whichofthem shouldbeaccountedthegreatest.

25Andhesaiduntothem,ThekingsoftheGentiles exerciselordshipoverthem;andtheythatexercise authorityuponthemarecalledbenefactors.

58Andafteralittlewhileanothersawhim,andsaid,Thou artalsoofthemAndPetersaid,Man,Iamnot

59Andaboutthespaceofonehourafteranother confidentlyaffirmed,saying,Ofatruththisfellowalso waswithhim:forheisaGalilaean

60AndPetersaid,Man,Iknownotwhatthousayest.And immediately,whileheyetspake,thecockcrew

CHAPTER23

1Andthewholemultitudeofthemarose,andledhimunto Pilate

2Andtheybegantoaccusehim,saying,Wefoundthis fellowpervertingthenation,andforbiddingtogivetribute toCaesar,sayingthathehimselfisChristaKing

3AndPilateaskedhim,saying,ArtthoutheKingofthe Jews?Andheansweredhimandsaid,Thousayestit

4ThensaidPilatetothechiefpriestsandtothepeople,I findnofaultinthisman.

5Andtheywerethemorefierce,saying,Hestirrethupthe people,teachingthroughoutallJewry,beginningfrom Galileetothisplace.

6WhenPilateheardofGalilee,heaskedwhethertheman wereaGalilaean

7AndassoonasheknewthathebelongeduntoHerod's jurisdiction,hesenthimtoHerod,whohimselfalsowasat Jerusalematthattime

8AndwhenHerodsawJesus,hewasexceedingglad:for hewasdesiroustoseehimofalongseason,becausehe hadheardmanythingsofhim;andhehopedtohaveseen somemiracledonebyhim.

9Thenhequestionedwithhiminmanywords;buthe answeredhimnothing

10Andthechiefpriestsandscribesstoodandvehemently accusedhim

11AndHerodwithhismenofwarsethimatnought,and mockedhim,andarrayedhiminagorgeousrobe,andsent himagaintoPilate

12AndthesamedayPilateandHerodweremadefriends together:forbeforetheywereatenmitybetween themselves

13AndPilate,whenhehadcalledtogetherthechiefpriests andtherulersandthepeople,

14Saiduntothem,Yehavebroughtthismanuntome,as onethatperverteththepeople:and,behold,I,having examinedhimbeforeyou,havefoundnofaultinthisman touchingthosethingswhereofyeaccusehim:

15No,noryetHerod:forIsentyoutohim;and,lo, nothingworthyofdeathisdoneuntohim

16Iwillthereforechastisehim,andreleasehim

17(Forofnecessityhemustreleaseoneuntothematthe feast)

18Andtheycriedoutallatonce,saying,Awaywiththis man,andreleaseuntousBarabbas:

19(Whoforacertainseditionmadeinthecity,andfor murder,wascastintoprison)

20Pilatetherefore,willingtoreleaseJesus,spakeagainto them.

21Buttheycried,saying,Crucifyhim,crucifyhim

22Andhesaiduntothemthethirdtime,Why,whatevil hathhedone?Ihavefoundnocauseofdeathinhim:Iwill thereforechastisehim,andlethimgo

23Andtheywereinstantwithloudvoices,requiringthat hemightbecrucified.Andthevoicesofthemandofthe chiefpriestsprevailed

24AndPilategavesentencethatitshouldbeasthey required

25Andhereleaseduntothemhimthatforseditionand murderwascastintoprison,whomtheyhaddesired;buthe deliveredJesustotheirwill

26Andastheyledhimaway,theylaidholduponone Simon,aCyrenian,comingoutofthecountry,andonhim theylaidthecross,thathemightbearitafterJesus

27Andtherefollowedhimagreatcompanyofpeople,and ofwomen,whichalsobewailedandlamentedhim.

28ButJesusturninguntothemsaid,Daughtersof Jerusalem,weepnotforme,butweepforyourselves,and foryourchildren.

29For,behold,thedaysarecoming,inthewhichthey shallsay,Blessedarethebarren,andthewombsthatnever bare,andthepapswhichnevergavesuck.

30Thenshalltheybegintosaytothemountains,Fallonus; andtothehills,Coverus

31Foriftheydothesethingsinagreentree,whatshallbe doneinthedry?

32Andtherewerealsotwoother,malefactors,ledwith himtobeputtodeath.

33Andwhentheywerecometotheplace,whichiscalled Calvary,theretheycrucifiedhim,andthemalefactors,one ontherighthand,andtheotherontheleft.

34ThensaidJesus,Father,forgivethem;fortheyknownot whattheydoAndtheypartedhisraiment,andcastlots

35Andthepeoplestoodbeholding.Andtherulersalso withthemderidedhim,saying,Hesavedothers;lethim savehimself,ifhebeChrist,thechosenofGod

36Andthesoldiersalsomockedhim,comingtohim,and offeringhimvinegar,

37Andsaying,IfthoubethekingoftheJews,savethyself

38Andasuperscriptionalsowaswrittenoverhiminletters ofGreek,andLatin,andHebrew,THISISTHEKINGOF THEJEWS

39Andoneofthemalefactorswhichwerehangedrailed onhim,saying,IfthoubeChrist,savethyselfandus

40Buttheotheransweringrebukedhim,saying,Dostnot thoufearGod,seeingthouartinthesamecondemnation?

41Andweindeedjustly;forwereceivetheduerewardof ourdeeds:butthismanhathdonenothingamiss

42AndhesaiduntoJesus,Lord,remembermewhenthou comestintothykingdom

43AndJesussaiduntohim,VerilyIsayuntothee,Today shaltthoubewithmeinparadise

44Anditwasaboutthesixthhour,andtherewasa darknessoveralltheearthuntiltheninthhour.

45Andthesunwasdarkened,andtheveilofthetemple wasrentinthemidst

46AndwhenJesushadcriedwithaloudvoice,hesaid, Father,intothyhandsIcommendmyspirit:andhaving saidthus,hegaveuptheghost

47Nowwhenthecenturionsawwhatwasdone,he glorifiedGod,saying,Certainlythiswasarighteousman.

48Andallthepeoplethatcametogethertothatsight, beholdingthethingswhichweredone,smotetheirbreasts, andreturned.

1Nowuponthefirstdayoftheweek,veryearlyinthe morning,theycameuntothesepulchre,bringingthespices whichtheyhadprepared,andcertainotherswiththem

2Andtheyfoundthestonerolledawayfromthesepulchre.

3Andtheyenteredin,andfoundnotthebodyoftheLord Jesus

4Anditcametopass,astheyweremuchperplexed thereabout,behold,twomenstoodbytheminshining garments:

5Andastheywereafraid,andboweddowntheirfacesto theearth,theysaiduntothem,Whyseekyetheliving amongthedead?

6Heisnothere,butisrisen:rememberhowhespakeunto youwhenhewasyetinGalilee,

7Saying,TheSonofmanmustbedeliveredintothehands ofsinfulmen,andbecrucified,andthethirddayriseagain.

8Andtheyrememberedhiswords,

9Andreturnedfromthesepulchre,andtoldallthesethings untotheeleven,andtoalltherest.

10ItwasMaryMagdalene,andJoanna,andMarythe motherofJames,andotherwomenthatwerewiththem, whichtoldthesethingsuntotheapostles

11Andtheirwordsseemedtothemasidletales,andthey believedthemnot

12ThenarosePeter,andranuntothesepulchre;and stoopingdown,hebeheldthelinenclotheslaidby themselves,anddeparted,wonderinginhimselfatthat whichwascometopass

13And,behold,twoofthemwentthatsamedaytoa villagecalledEmmaus,whichwasfromJerusalemabout threescorefurlongs

14Andtheytalkedtogetherofallthesethingswhichhad happened.

15Anditcametopass,that,whiletheycommuned togetherandreasoned,Jesushimselfdrewnear,andwent withthem

16Buttheireyeswereholdenthattheyshouldnotknow him.

17Andhesaiduntothem,Whatmannerof communicationsarethesethatyehaveonetoanother,as yewalk,andaresad?

18Andtheoneofthem,whosenamewasCleopas, answeringsaiduntohim,Artthouonlyastrangerin Jerusalem,andhastnotknownthethingswhicharecome topassthereinthesedays?

19Andhesaiduntothem,Whatthings?Andtheysaid untohim,ConcerningJesusofNazareth,whichwasa prophetmightyindeedandwordbeforeGodandallthe people:

20Andhowthechiefpriestsandourrulersdeliveredhim tobecondemnedtodeath,andhavecrucifiedhim

21Butwetrustedthatithadbeenhewhichshouldhave redeemedIsrael:andbesideallthis,todayisthethirdday sincethesethingsweredone

22Yea,andcertainwomenalsoofourcompanymadeus astonished,whichwereearlyatthesepulchre;

23Andwhentheyfoundnothisbody,theycame,saying, thattheyhadalsoseenavisionofangels,whichsaidthat hewasalive

24Andcertainofthemwhichwerewithuswenttothe sepulchre,andfounditevensoasthewomenhadsaid:but himtheysawnot

25Thenhesaiduntothem,Ofools,andslowofheartto believeallthattheprophetshavespoken:

26OughtnotChristtohavesufferedthesethings,andto enterintohisglory?

27AndbeginningatMosesandalltheprophets,he expoundeduntotheminallthescripturesthethings concerninghimself

28Andtheydrewnighuntothevillage,whithertheywent: andhemadeasthoughhewouldhavegonefurther

29Buttheyconstrainedhim,saying,Abidewithus:forit istowardevening,andthedayisfarspent.Andhewentin totarrywiththem

30Anditcametopass,ashesatatmeatwiththem,he tookbread,andblessedit,andbrake,andgavetothem.

31Andtheireyeswereopened,andtheyknewhim;andhe vanishedoutoftheirsight

32Andtheysaidonetoanother,Didnotourheartburn withinus,whilehetalkedwithusbytheway,andwhilehe openedtousthescriptures?

33Andtheyroseupthesamehour,andreturnedto Jerusalem,andfoundtheelevengatheredtogether,and themthatwerewiththem,

34Saying,TheLordisrisenindeed,andhathappearedto Simon

35Andtheytoldwhatthingsweredoneintheway,and howhewasknownoftheminbreakingofbread

36Andastheythusspake,Jesushimselfstoodinthemidst ofthem,andsaithuntothem,Peacebeuntoyou.

37Buttheywereterrifiedandaffrighted,andsupposedthat theyhadseenaspirit

38Andhesaiduntothem,Whyareyetroubled?andwhy dothoughtsariseinyourhearts?

39Beholdmyhandsandmyfeet,thatitisImyself:handle me,andsee;foraspirithathnotfleshandbones,asyesee mehave

40Andwhenhehadthusspoken,heshewedthemhis handsandhisfeet.

41Andwhiletheyyetbelievednotforjoy,andwondered, hesaiduntothem,Haveyehereanymeat?

42Andtheygavehimapieceofabroiledfish,andofan honeycomb

43Andhetookit,anddideatbeforethem

44Andhesaiduntothem,ThesearethewordswhichI spakeuntoyou,whileIwasyetwithyou,thatallthings mustbefulfilled,whichwerewritteninthelawofMoses, andintheprophets,andinthepsalms,concerningme

45Thenopenedhetheirunderstanding,thattheymight understandthescriptures,

46Andsaiduntothem,Thusitiswritten,andthusit behovedChristtosuffer,andtorisefromthedeadthethird day:

47Andthatrepentanceandremissionofsinsshouldbe preachedinhisnameamongallnations,beginningat Jerusalem.

48Andyearewitnessesofthesethings

49And,behold,IsendthepromiseofmyFatheruponyou: buttarryyeinthecityofJerusalem,untilyebeendued withpowerfromonhigh

50AndheledthemoutasfarastoBethany,andhelifted uphishands,andblessedthem.

51Anditcametopass,whileheblessedthem,hewas partedfromthem,andcarriedupintoheaven

52Andtheyworshippedhim,andreturnedtoJerusalem withgreatjoy:

53Andwerecontinuallyinthetemple,praisingand blessingGod.Amen.
