THE ANALYSIS OF A CITY AND ITS ARCHITECTURE Group members: Astra Sun, Luying Peng, Xi Xiang, Yihan Yang
In the context of the central business district of Syracuse, a unique hybridity exists. The buildings of the central district pocesse a mix identity as their facades serve to respond to their programme. From fabric to object buildings, and from civil to residential, my group created the two spectrums to explore the relationship between the facades and the activities of the buildings.

THE ANALYSIS OF URBAN BUILDINGS AND THEIR FACADES Group member: Yixuan Li
Situated in Exeter New Hampshire, the Philip Exeter Libary is a renowned piece by Louis Kahn. In studying this building, we intend to analyze its facade, and its relationship to its programme. We claim that Kahn’s work carefully considers the idea of transition; the transitions of outdoor to indoor, of programme, of light, and of materials are designed to produce a building which emphasizes attention to details.

DESIGNING AN URBAN BUILDING
The unique location, intersection of Warren, and Jefferson street, presents an opportunity to see the design problem from two fronts. And the primary aim of the building, given its exiting hiearchy, is to attract passers-by to enter the buildings through grid openings of varying rhythm and translucencies. Users of the buildings are given optimal visual access to the exhibition spaces. As they circulate through the exhibits to get to the stacks (Located on the Jefferson St. Facade), they will be more inclined to pick up the books to learn about the history of Syracuse while getting a view of the urban landscape.
