SPRING 14 Dear Flicks Fan,
It gives us great pleasure to present to you our spring brochure of Flicks in the Sticks screenings. We have some great films on offer and sincerely hope that you are able to attend a screening or two, and taste the delights of films in village halls: local, affordable, professional and welcoming.
@FlicksinSticks Flicks in the Sticks
In the climate of cutbacks and economic restraint, we are pleased to report that Flicks in the Sticks is looking like it can continue its work delivering cinema to rural venues for the foreseeable future. Our funders, which include the BFI and local councils, really appreciate the service we offer and the value for money it delivers. Flicks’ success and sustainability is built upon the thousands of volunteer hours our local promoters put in, and the support and enthusiasm of you, our audiences, so THANK YOU ALL! One audience member who contacted us puts it well: “Totally adore the experience – so much so that we have not been to a multiplex since we moved to Shropshire, and all the friends and family we have introduced to this think it’s the bee’s knees!” Ian Kerry (Director) and Terri Jones Flicks in the Sticks Team t: 01588 620883 e: ian@artsalive.co.uk w: www.artsalive.co.uk Blue Barn Green Lane Churchstoke SY15 6EN

Captain Phillips Director: Paul Greengrass Action/Adventure/Biography 134 mins, Cert 12a Tom Hanks, Barkhad Abdi, Barkhad Abdirahman Paul Greengrass (United 93, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Green Zone) brings his unique brand of thriller to the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the US-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years. Highly-acclaimed performance by Tom Hanks as the Captain.
Sunshine on Leith Director: Dexter Fletcher Comedy/Drama/Musical 98 mins, Cert PG Antonia Thomas, Peter Mullan, Jason Flemyng Dexter Fletcher directs Sunshine on Leith, a jubilant, heartfelt musical about the power of home, the hearth, family and love. It is the tale of one tight-knit family, and the three couples bound to it, as they experience the joys and heartache that punctuate all relationships. And they do it all while singing to the euphoric music of The Proclaimers.
Undertaking Betty Director: Nick Hurran Comedy/Romance 88 mins, Cert 15 Brenda Blethyn, Alfred Molina, Christopher Walken, Naomi Watts and Lee Evans This devilish, offbeat comedy finds Betty (Brenda Blethyn) stuck in a marriage that‘s killing her. She decides that the only way to break from her two-timing scoundrel of a husband is to fake her own death. But nothing goes as planned when a flamboyant competing funeral director (Christopher Walken) jumps in, determined to give Betty a send-off no one will ever forget...

Rush Director: Ron Howard Action/Biography/Drama 123 mins, Cert 15 Daniel Brßhl, Chris Hemsworth, Olivia Wilde Set in the glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, Rush portrays the exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed – handsome English playboy Hunt and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Lauda. Taking us into their personal lives on and off the track, Rush follows as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance.
Le Week-End Director: Roger Michell Comedy/Drama 93 mins, Cert 15 Jeff Goldblum, Jim Broadbent, Lindsay Duncan A married couple (Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan) revisit Paris to revitalise their marriage, and run into an old friend (Jeff Goldblum) who acts as a catalyst for things to come. Le Week-End is a funny and poignant story about the nature of love and commitment, where Nick and Meg yearn to recapture their youthful fearlessness, lack of responsibility and idealism.
Blue Jasmine Director: Woody Allen Comedy/Drama 98 mins, Cert 12a Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Peter Sarsgaard, Sally Hawkins After everything in her life falls to pieces, including her marriage to wealthy businessman Hal (Alec Baldwin), elegant New York socialite Jasmine (Cate Blanchett) moves into her sister Ginger's (Sally Hawkins) modest apartment in San Francisco to try to pull herself back together again.
"Flicks is a brilliant service – we've seen lots of great films in friendly, cosy settings"
