January – April 2015
SPRING 15 Dear Film Fans, Watching films in your local village hall is on the increase; @FlicksinSticks there are more people attending Flicks in the Sticks venues than ever before! However, we hope that the following list of films will encourage you to attend even more. If Flicks in the Sticks you haven’t already seen Belle, do try to catch it – and likewise Jersey Boys – one promoter said “Fabulous biopic of the Four Seasons – the soundtrack and singing was amazing. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed this one.” We also have Pride and Mr. Turner, as well as Dame Maggie Smith in My Old Lady, Billy Connolly in What We Did On Our Holiday and we’re expecting Paddington this season too – there is something for everyone! Flicks is a service that is subsidised by public funding to bring cinema to rural areas and as you know times are tough, with more cuts likely to occur in April – so the future is uncertain, hence your support of our service and attendance at screenings is vital. If you feel you can make a donation do give us a call, or you can make a donation online at www.artsalive.co.uk Every little helps! A big THANKS to all our volunteer promoters and their teams as usual – without them and all their hard work there would be no screenings. With very best wishes from all of the team at Flicks, Ian, Terri and Bryoni t: 01588 620883 e: ian@artsalive.co.uk w: www.artsalive.co.uk
We are pleased to be taking part in
Borderlines Film Festival
again this year. The festival has a great programme, spanning two weeks in all sorts of venues, not just Flicks venues, starting on 28th February – for more details please visit www.borderlinesfilmfestival.co.uk Borderlines screenings are indicated ‘BFF’ in the listings.
Due to circumstances beyond our control, film titles can sometimes change at the last minute – please check with the venue before travelling.

Jimmy’s Hall Director: Ken Loach Drama/History 109 mins, Cert 12a Barry Ward, Simone Kirby, Andrew Scott, Jim Norton, Brian O'Byrne In 1921 Jimmy Gralton’s sin was to build a dance hall on a rural crossroads in Ireland where young people could come to learn, to argue, to dream… but above all to dance and have fun. Freely inspired by Jimmy’s life and turbulent times, this follows events when Jimmy, a notorious communist, returns from a decade in New York to re-open the hall. Celebrating the spirit of these free thinkers, all Ken’s familiar themes are here – community, music, economic strife, politics, kitchen-sink realism – in what is supposedly his last film after 50 years on the front line.
The Imitation Game Director: Morten Tyldum Biography/Drama/Thriller 114 mins, Cert 12a Benedict Cumberbatch, Keira Knightley, Matthew Goode Based on the real life story of legendary cryptanalyst Alan Turing, the film portrays the nail-biting race against time by Turing and his brilliant team of code-breakers at Britain‘s topsecret Government Code and Cypher School at Bletchley Park, during the darkest days of World War II.
The Boxtrolls Directors: Graham Annable, Anthony Stacchi Animation/Adventure/Comedy 96 mins, Cert PG Ben Kingsley, Jared Harris, Nick Frost, Simon Pegg A young orphaned boy, raised by underground cave-dwelling trash collectors, tries to save his friends from an evil exterminator. Based on the children’s novel Here Be Monsters by Alan Snow.
