The International Association for rights and freedoms demands the project of the main law of the Arab Court for human rights to be in line with the international standards. The International Association for rights and freedoms expresses its welcome with the imminent adoption by the Arab countries for the draft of the main statute of the Arab Court for Human Rights which was suggested by experts from the Arab League. According to the information available to us that is based on the statements of the General Secretary of the Arab League in May 2014, the Member countries in the League intends to make a decision about the adoption of the draft of the statute of the court during the next meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Arab League scheduled from 3 to 8 September 2014. The Association urges the following: 1- The Arab governments to speed the adoption of a decision of the draft of the statute with the importance of ensuring its relevance with the international laws and standards for human rights. 2- The suggested draft of the statute to be formulated by a Committee of Experts who are candidates from the General Secretariat of the Arab League, in addition to giving the civil society organizations and other interested parties a larger area to contribute in the project. 3- The Association expresses the importance of the draft statute to be a servant for the desired goal of the establishment of such a court to provide justice for victims of human rights violations, and (integrates) properly, the international standards and practices. 4- The Association urges the Arab governments to ensure the amendment of some provisions of the project before its adoption, particularly those that are related to the independence of the court, its judges, competence, access to them and acceptance of proceedings in front of it. 5- The Court to be independent, fair and transparent and that the court’s judges are appointed according to their personal capacity and they are independent from the governments with the involvement of the Arab civil society organizations concerned with the court’s affairs.
