The year 2005 has the highest number of 889(12.04%) publications, The average research outputs in Current Science are 738 articles per year The author Balaram P has contributed 149 (26.90) articles with 225 citations, 7 h index and occupied first rank. It is deduced from the study that authors are more interested in contributing articles than any other category. There is 3747 (50.74 %) publications fall under the category of articles. . It has been identified that the highest contributions is from India with 6319 (85.58%) publications Keywords: Content Analysis, Bibliometric Study, Scientometric Study, Current Science I. INTRODUCTION The term Bibliometric has been defined as organization, classification, and quantative evaluation of publication patterns of macro and micro communications along with their authorship by mathematical and statistical calculus6. Current Science, published every fortnight by the Association, in collaboration with the Indian Academy of Sciences, is the leading interdisciplinary science journal from India. It was started in 1932 by the then stalwarts of Indian science such as CV Raman, Birbal Sahni, Meghnad Saha, Martin Foster and S.S. Bhatnagar. In 2011, the journal completed one hundred volumes. The journal is intended as a medium for communication and discussion of important issues that concern science and scientific activities. Besides full length research articles and shorter research communications, the journal publishes review articles, scientific correspondence and commentaries, news and views, comments on recently published research papers, opinions on scientific activity, articles. Current Science is indexed by Web of Science, Current Contents, Geobase, Chemical Abstracts, IndMed and Scopus. The Impact Factor of the journal for the year 2014 is 0.926. II. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY The main objective of this study is to analyze the content of the Current Science ‘and make the quantitative assessment of the journal by way of analyzing the following features. 1. To find out year-wise distribution of publications. 2. To find out the Source wise distributions of publications by the authors for their contributions. 3. To examine the most prolific authors in the field 4. To analyze Geographical distribution of research output III. SCOPE & LIMITATION OF THE STUDY Scope of study is restricted to the ‘Current Science published during 2005 to 2014. The papers presented in the journal are analyzed using bibliometric technique. The present study is limited to ISI Web of Science which is more comprehensive and widely used citation database for conducting research. There are total numbers of 7384 papers published during the study period. IV. METHODOLOGY The data for the study was taken from the Web of Science citation database published by Institute of Scientific Information (ISI). To hunt all records published in the Current Science Journal. The search strategy used for collecting data was as follows; Publication Name = Current Science; Time span 2005-2014.This means those records published in the Current Science during the study period only were retrieved. The total numbers of records

were 7384. The data were downloaded in the Microsoft Excel format and analyzed according to objectives of the research. V. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION YEAR WISE DISTRIBUTION OF PUBLICATIONS Table 1 gives the year-wise distribution of literature in the Current Science. The number of distribution of literatures varies from year to year. The year 2005 has the highest number of 889 (12.04%) publications, whereas the year 2012 has lowest number of 646 (8.75%) publications. The year 2005 has the highest number of 7178 (26.74) citations for 82 articles, but the year 2014 has lowest number of 344 (1.28%) citations for 889 articles. MOST PROLIFIC AUTHORS Table 4 shows the ranking and most prolific authors of Current Science. The rank list of top ten authors is taken into account to avoid long list. The author Balaram P has contributed 149 (26.90%) articles with 225 citations, 7 h index and occupied first rank. Second in the rank was Kumar A 77 (13.90%) article with 4.17 citations, 11 h index. Followed by Prathap Gangan 52 (9.39) articles with 132 citations, 5 h index occupies third rank. Singh R contributed 51 (9.21) articles with 250 citations, 8 h index holds the fourth rank. Rest of the authors contributed below 16 articles. Singh S contributed 45 (8.12) articles with 162 citations 7 h index occupied fifth place. It is interesting to know that Kumar A received highest 77 (13.90%) citations and 11 h index for 77 publications. Ranking of authors is one of the criteria in bibliometric study, it helps in determining the authoritativeness and the qualitativeness of different works brought out by various subject experts. It stresses and influences the quality of selection of various source materials intended for target audience. Thus, it helps in acquisition and weeding out policy. The trends towards collaborative research is gaining currency day-by-day. Every work of researchers depends purely on the library because it contains more sources information. The researchers have become an important entity wherein more and more researchers help to make it innovative. REFERENCES. [1]. [2]. [3].
