TOPIC:

Nǐ xǐhuān zuò shénme? (What do you like to do?) STUDENTS:

3rd Grade

MATERIALS: Pictures, flash cards, worksheets, dittos TIME:

45 minutes

VOCABULARY: (see attached) OBJECTIVES: Students will be able to 1. review routine greetings and names of the week and numbers; (Standard 1, Communication) 2. say words written in Hanzi and Pinyin that are related to leisure activities and hobby; (Standard 1, Communication) 3. communicate with a partner and practice dialogue about what activity he/she like to do; (Standard 1, Communication) 4. Compare/contrast the leisure activities of children in China with the ones in America (Standard 2, Cultures) MOTIVATIONS: TPR, visual pictures PROCEDURE: 1.

Review daily greeting words, phrases and expressions.

Review the classroom rules and the date and weather.

3.

TPR - Teacher will demonstrate the words by acting them out. (Such as: 看书, 下 棋 , 画画, 看电视, 打电玩,上网, 玩乐器, 看电影,运动, etc.) and students will guess what it is.

4.

Teacher will distribute the worksheet (p.1) and demonstrate the pronunciation of each word.

5.

Teacher will check students’ listening skills by saying the words and students must point to the right picture that is associated with the sound.

6.

Teacher will randomly call students to talk about what they like to do (你喜欢做什

么?)Students will respond by saying 我喜欢... 1


7.

To extend the sentences, students may say "我喜欢...也喜欢...); 不喜欢...也不喜 欢...);

8.

Students will work with a partner to practice asking questions and answering them.

9.

Game (Charades): Class will be divided into two teams. Each team will have one person acting out, and the teammate will say the name of the activity.

10. Writing practice (See worksheet P.2-4) Follow-up Activity: Students will report to the class about their family member's favorite hobby.

EVALUATION: After this class, students should

1. be able to respond in Chinese properly and improve listening, speaking, reading and writing skills; 2. be able to increase cultural awareness; 3. be able to compare and contrast the two cultures;
