OFFICE CLEANING
Why Your Office Should Be Professionally Cleaned
Hiring a janitorial cleaning service is an excellent investment for businesses looking to maintain a healthy, productive, and professional workspace. Here’s why:
Healthier Workplace, Fewer Sick Days
Poorly cleaned offices allow germs to spread, leading to higher employee
absenteeism. Professional cleaners ensure thorough disinfection, reducing the risk of illness.
Green Cleaning for a Safer Environment
Many businesses are prioritizing ecofriendly practices. Professional janitorial services use non-toxic, green cleaning products, improving indoor air quality.
More Productive Employees
Assigning cleaning duties to employees takes away valuable work time. Outsourcing janitorial tasks lets your team focus on their jobs, increasing efficiency.
Custom Cleaning Plans
Every office has different needs. A professional cleaning service can tailor its approach, offering customized solutionsbased on your requirements.
Deep Cleaning Expertise
Commercial cleaners have specialized tools and techniques to remove dust, grime, and allergens—even from hard-to-reach areas like air vents.
Professional & Cost-Effective
A clean office makes a great first impression on clients. Plus, regular deep cleaning extends the life of carpets and furniture, saving you money on replacements.
A professional cleaning service ensures your office is well-maintained, creating a healthier, more inviting environment for employees and visitors alike.

KFC Reopens After Major Overhaul
Afull-scale renovation, including a new kitchen layout and elevator system, has transformed one of Bermuda’s most popular eateries.
Word of KFC’s late-afternoon ‘soft opening’ spread through Bermuda so quickly that within minutes, a queue
stretched down Queen Street. While eager customers picked up their Zingers and Twister combos, few realized the extensive renovation that had taken place behind the scenes.
KFC was closed for eight months for a complete overhaul, both front and back of
house, with much of the work focused on improving efficiency in the kitchen.
Geoff Parker, owner of Geoff Parker Architect, was brought in to design and oversee the renovation, with a key objective: streamline operations to improve workflow.
A Smarter Kitchen Layout & a Game-Changing Elevator
One of the biggest inefficiencies in the old layout was that the kitchen was located on the upper level, while food service was on the ground floor.
“As a result, 1,000 pounds of chicken
per week had to be carried upstairs by hand,” explained Parker. “Once cooked, it was sent back down via a dumbwaiter to be finished and served.”
To fix this, the new design moved the kitchen to the ground floor, allowing everything to be cooked and prepared
in one space. A new three-story elevator was installed to transport supplies directly from delivery trucks to storage areas with minimal handling.
“Previously, their supplier had to send six people, and a truck had to make three trips from the warehouse every
SUPERIOR INTERIORS
week,” Parker said. “Now, two people can unload a pallet, place it in the elevator, and move it directly to the freezer. Once defrosted, it’s taken down to the chiller, right where it’s needed.”
A Complex Renovation with a Tight Fit
Installing the elevator was one of the biggest challenges due to limited space.
“We had to find the smallest elevator possible,” said Parker. “We surveyed the site eight times just to check dimensions. Even during construction, it was a matter of crossing our fingers and hoping it would fit.”
Parker praised Greymane Construction, the project’s main contractor, for expertly managing the challenges of a complex build in a confined space.
Additional Upgrades for Staff & Operations
Beyond the kitchen overhaul, the renovation included:
✔ New staff washrooms & showers ✔ Lockers & break areas
✔ Upgraded electrical systems
✔ New HVAC & plumbing
Back in Business
Reflecting on the completed project, Parker said, “I think everyone in Bermuda was just happy to see it finished and KFC open again.”

Designing for Connection
The thoughtful transformation of Hannover Re’s office, balancing collaboration, privacy, and functionality
The attention to detail in Hannover Re’s newly redesigned office is extraordinary. More than just a physical transformation, the project serves as a lesson in workplace communication, demonstrating how thoughtful design can bring a team together—no matter the size of the organization.
When Katie Danson, interior designer and founder of Design by KD, was brought in to redesign the offices at Hannover Re, the company was in the process of merging
with its sister company, Hannover Life. Though they shared the same floor, they functioned as two separate entities, each with distinct spaces and styles.
“The office definitely reflected that,” said Katie. “There were three different kitchens, three different design styles—some areas were modernized, others felt outdated. It was very much a mismatched space.”
A Design Rooted in Employee Input
Before making any design
decisions, Katie recognized the importance of engaging the staff in shaping their new workspace.
“When I came on board, I conducted a workplace questionnaire. It was essential to give employees a say in their own environment,” she explained.
“If you move into a space knowing you had input in its design, you’ll naturally have a more positive connection to it. That was really important—not just for engagement, but also for understanding the different ways people work.”
Having completed training in workplace consultancy in the UK, Katie crafted the questionnaire to capture the daily needs of employees.
“There are so many different personality types in an office, and I wanted to create a space that worked for everyoneas best as possible.”
A Space for Every Workstyle
The result is a workspace that caters to a wide range of needs, blending collaboration with individual focus areas. Key features include:
✔ Themed meeting rooms for creativity and brainstorming
✔ Private rooms & high-
backed phone booths for focused work
✔ A large open-plan workspace with plenty of natural light
✔ A spacious lounge area with charging stations for laptops and phones
✔ A ‘visual vault’ room with writable walls for ideation sessions
✔ An expansive boardroom for formal meetings
At the heart of the office is Café H, designed as a social hub with lounge seating, bench seating, and a large kitchen island. A pool table that doubles as a work surface adds a touch of fun and flexibility.
“I wanted it to be a space that could entertain everybody and meet different needs throughout the day,” Katie added.
Beyond Café H, the main workspace is bright and open, surrounded by support spaces like private phone booths, 1-on-1 chat areas, and meeting rooms—all designed to balance collaboration with quiet, individual work areas.
Thoughtful Details & Smart Functionality
The success of the redesign is rooted in its careful attention to detail, with practical touches that enhance usabilitywhile often going unnoticed.
✔ Handle-free kitchen cabinets for easier cleaning and a sleek look
✔ Smudge-resistant surfaces that prevent fingerprint marks
✔ Strategic acoustics – soundabsorbing artwork, fabriccovered furniture, and woven vinyl flooring to reduce noise
✔ Soft table coverings in some areas to reduce sound impact
✔ Custom-designed lighting fixtures that double as acoustic solutions
A Space to Work, Rest & Play
Hannover Re’s new office is more than just a place to work—it’s a space that reflects the desires and needs of its employees. By listening to staff, incorporating smart design choices, and balancing
collaboration with privacy, the transformation has created an environment where people can

Balancing Global Consistency with a Local Touch
Essent Group Ltd establishes its Bermuda office, maintaining international design consistency with local expertise.
Interior designer Katie Danson, founder of Design by KD, was brought in by Essent Group Ltd as project manager, to ensure that its space met Bermuda’s building codes while adding thoughtful local design touches to create a warm, sophisticated, and functional environment
“They have an overseas designer they like to use, D2, to maintain consistency across their global offices,” said Katie. “But they also needed someone local who understands Bermuda’s building codes and regulations, since every country has different requirements.”
After some demolition work, the new design was implemented at Seon Place, incorporating deep bronze details, grey tonal carpets, soft-washed walnut, and cognac hues in the furniture and chairs.
“There’s a tendency for too much
grey to feel drab or uninviting,” Katie explained. “But by layering textures and adding cognac accents, warm wood tones, and subtle bronze details, the space was transformed into something sophisticated, inviting, and inspiring.”
Blending Functionality with Design
As project manager, Katie was able to refine the design by making subtle yet impactful changes. She introduced plants for warmth, ensured walls extended from floor to ceiling to improve acoustics, and added felt accent walls and additional furniture to create a cohesive and functional workspace.
This was the first time Katie had worked alongside an international design team, and she embraced the collaboration.
“I really enjoyed it because it allowed
me to focus on the project management aspect rather than just the design,” she said.
“Having a local point of contact made a huge difference for my client. It ensured they had someone advocating for their needs while also managing the everyday logistics of the project. Relocating an office can be stressful, so my goal was to help ease that transition by guiding them through the process.”
Beyond Construction: The Importance of Aftercare
For Katie, a project doesn’t end when construction is complete.
“The aftercare of a project is just as
SUPERIOR INTERIORS
important as the construction phase,” she noted. “Even after the office was completed, I continued to ensure that any new additions or modifications aligned with the original design intent.”
Additionally, having a local project manager gave Essent Group a direct point of contact for any post-construction issues.
“If anything arises long after the project is finished, they have someone on the ground who can visit the office, assess the situation, and provide solutions.”
By combining global design expertise with local knowledge, the new Essent Group Bermuda office successfully balances corporate consistency, functionality, and warmth, creating a space that reflects both brand identity and workplace comfort.

Vibrant, Striking, Energetic
A Bold and Inviting Workspace Designed for Productivity and Comfort
Bold colors, bright accents, and eyecatching fixtures define the new Fidelis Insurance Group offices in Wellesley House. Designed to be both modern and inviting, the space combines contemporary design with a fun, homelike atmosphere.
A Thoughtfully Designed Workspace
Home to 25 employees, Fidelis Insurance Group moved into its new office space in 2023, enlisting Darcy Robertson and Maddy Brash from Commercial Interiors Group (CIG) to transform it
SUPERIOR INTERIORS
into something beyond just a state-of-the-art workspace. Every element—layout, materials, furniture, colors, and lighting—was chosen to create an environment that is both functional and inspiring.
For clients, the office moves away from the traditional waiting area concept. Instead, they are welcomed into a stylish yet relaxing coffee bar, located next to sleek, glassfronted meeting rooms. For employees, amenities include a private gym and a café-style kitchen, featuring banquette seating, a kitchen island, and vibrant, modern décor.
Striking Design & Thoughtful Details
The kitchen and common areas are designed to be both comfortable and bold. A terracotta tile backsplash, turquoise chairs, and lush greenery bring warmth and energy, while unique
SUPERIOR INTERIORS
lighting installations add a striking touch.
A standout feature is the open ceiling in the staff kitchen, adorned with round acoustical “Mill” fixtures from Eureka Lighting in Montreal. These fixtures, chosen in red, charcoal, and grey, perfectly match the banquette fabric and are suspended at different heights.
“These are PET felt light fixtures, so they have some acoustic properties. With an open ceiling, sound tends to bounce,”explains Robertson.
Throughout the open-plan office, exposed ceilings inherited from the previous tenant add an industrial touch, complemented by rectangular and circular ceiling light bars above the client café and employee workstations. The polished concrete flooring in the central corridor runs from reception through the workstations to the staff café, visually connecting the space.
To add warmth and contrast, varied shades of grey carpeting define different
zones, while wood tones in the reception desk and cabinetry soften the industrial aesthetic. All custom millwork was designed by CIG and manufactured by Ell-Rod.
A Seamless, Light-Filled Space
With beautiful views surrounding the office, maximizing natural light was a priority. Glass walls were used wherever possible to create a bright, open feel, but this also required careful attention to visual continuity—ensuring that elements on either side of the glass complement each other.
The coastal-themed artwork throughout the office is a prime example. Created by Jean-Pierre Rouja in collaboration with Fidelis Insurance Group, each piece incorporates pops of terracotta, mirroring the café tiles and reinforcing a cohesive design.
Repeating design elements further enhance this sense of continuity. The wooden slats featured in the reception desk are also used in the client café behind it and the boardroom next door. In the boardroom, however, the ceiling and wall slats are white and acoustical, subtly differentiating the space while maintaining a unified look.
The coastal influence extends beyond artwork. The ‘Granite Mountain’ carpet tiles in the meeting rooms resemble stone or water lines in the sand, depending on the viewer’s perspective. Even the grey stone quartz countertops in the staff kitchen mimic this organic pattern.
“It’s all intentional,” says Robertson. From thoughtful design choices to a focus on comfort and functionality, the new offices reflect a perfect balance of energy, creativity, and purpose—a space where employees and clients alike can feel at home.

State-of-the-Art Silence
Balancing Acoustics, Aesthetics, and Functionality in the Modern Workplace
In today’s hybrid work environment, where video meetings, openplan spaces, and flexible work arrangements are the norm, WTW’s newly renovated Bermuda office has prioritised cutting-edge acoustics and sound control while embracing a modern, client facing, commercial design.
Balancing Functionality & Design
Leading the renovation locally was Wendy Percy, Head of Human Resources, along with design expertise from Darcy Robertson, Design Director at Commercial Interiors Group (CIG). Supporting the process was the WTW Global Real Estate team and vendors, WTW employees also played a key role in shaping the space, requesting an employee lounge, naming conference rooms, choosing colour palette and more
collaborative areas.
To successfully integrate these collaborative spaces alongside state of the art sit/stand workstations and meeting rooms, sound control had to be a key consideration. The office features a white
noise system distributed through ‘invisible’ ceiling speakers, allowing for adjustable decibel levels depending on office activity.
In addition, materials were chosen for their acoustic benefits wherever possible. These include:
• Rubber-backed vinyl flooring in the employee lounge and reception.
• Acoustical wall felt in phone rooms.
• Linear wooden ceiling slats in the central reception and coffee bar area, which enhance acoustics while creating an eye-catching design feature.
A Modern, Island-Inspired Aesthetic
Alongside its state-of-the-art sound
management, WTW new space is designed to be client facing and aimed to create a space that is inviting, incorporating clear design zones, subtle local influences, and a comfortable atmosphere for its employees and clients.
Meeting rooms are named “Gombey Grove,” “Mangrove Bay,” and “Moongate,” with custom decals illustrating each theme. Artwork throughout the office highlights Bermuda’s people, culture, and
nature, with a striking gallery wall above the employee lounge banquette.
Textures and colors were carefully selected to complement WTW’s corporate purple logo while reflecting Bermuda’s natural beauty. Pops of pink, turquoise, sand, and coral appear in chairs and stools, adding vibrancy. The bright coral backs of workstation chairs break up the neutral tones, balanced by a light blue accent wall featuring whiteboards and
SUPERIOR INTERIORS
a brass bell for celebrating new business wins.
Natural tones play a key role in defining different areas:
• Bermuda stone-inspired greys feature in flooring and walls.
• Meeting room carpets blend light and dark greys.
• Wood-look vinyl flooring in communal areas adds warmth.
• A textured stone-like backsplash in the coffee bar creates visual depth under different lighting.
• Leaf-patterned carpet in the waiting area and a bold leaf motif wallpaper in phone rooms enhance the connection to nature.
Sustainable & Practical Choices
WTW also took a thoughtful approach to sustainability, reusing window blinds, drapery, baseboards, and kitchen cabinetry where possible. Materials were chosen with longevity in mind, including durable finishes and practical design touches— such as leather pull straps on stools and chairs to protect the upholstery from wear and tear.
All millwork was crafted by Ell-Rod in
Canada and expertly finished and installed by WTW’s contractor, D&J Construction. Global partnerships with Vocon, Empire Office, Archigrafika, and Crescent played an important role in the project’s design and coordination. These collaborations, complemented by the expertise of local partners, were key to staying within budget and ensuring the project’s success.
A Perfect Blend of Innovation & Comfort
The result is an office that looks, sounds, and feels state-of-the-art, seamlessly balancing modern workplace needs with Bermudian charm. Thoughtfully designed for productivity, collaboration, and comfort, WTW’s Bermuda office is a prime example of an intelligent, people-first design for both the client and employee in mind.

LOM’s Lobby Renovation Blends Elegance and Functionality
Located in the heart of Hamilton on Reid Street, the LOM lobby renovation is a testament to thoughtful design and modern elegance. This 3,000-square-foot transformation, completed alongside renovations to the firm’s executive conference room, creates a brighter, more welcoming space for clients and employees.
A Striking First Impression
The redesigned lobby is built along a central axis, leading visitors seamlessly from the entrance to the firm’s meeting spaces. At the heart of the transformation is a custom-built reception desk, set against a striking marble and wood panel wall featuring the LOM logo. A unique carpet inlay in the waiting area not only defines the
space but also showcases the owner’s personal collection of found objects, adding character to the professional setting.
The material palette—stone, wood,
and brass—creates a refined yet inviting atmosphere, while the use of natural light enhances the sense of openness. A circular light fixture serves as a focal point, drawing attention to the display case and providing a warm, ambient glow for the space.
Designed for Functionality and Comfort
Beyond aesthetics, the renovation improves functionality with two additional meeting spaces that offer flexibility for both client consultations and internal discussions. The smaller meeting room is suited for private conversations, while the larger space accommodates team meetings and presentations. Both rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art technology, ensuring seamless connectivity and productivity.
The elevator interiors were also refinished to complement the lobby’s elevated aesthetic, with the elevator lobby wall clad in luminous stone for a final touch of sophistication.
Lighting and Layout: The Key to a Cohesive Space
The design team carefully considered layout, lighting, and furnishings to create a space that is both functional and visually appealing. The central axis naturally guides visitors through the space, while neutral tones and natural light establish a calm and professional ambiance.
Lighting plays a crucial role in shaping the atmosphere. The circular light fixture

A New Approach to Shared Office Space in Bermuda
ALTURA Workspaces Offers Flexible Solutions for Professionals
Bermuda’s office landscape is evolving, with more businesses seeking flexible, collaborative workspaces instead of traditional longterm office leases. ALTURA Workspaces, a new shared office space at 22 Queen Street in Hamilton, is designed to meet this growing demand by offering a mix of private offices, shared desks, and meeting rooms tailored to professionals, entrepreneurs, and small businesses.
A Shift in Office Needs
The project was developed by Scott Kitson and Lee Petty, who faced a challenge after their long-term tenant vacated the top two floors of 22 Queen Street in 2024. Instead of seeking another single tenant, they decided to rethink how office space is used in Bermuda.
“The way people work has changed, especially since the pandemic,” said Scott Kitson. “We saw a shift in demand— companies were reducing permanent office space, eliminating private meeting rooms, and embracing hybrid work models. At the same time, freelancers and startups were looking for smaller, flexible spaces with a sense of community.”
Drawing on their experience in Bermuda’s real estate market, Scott & Lee, along with the Kitson & Company team, decided to convert the space into a modern, shared office environment, catering to a wide range of professionals.
What ALTURA Workspaces Offers
The facility includes:
• Private offices and dedicated desks
• Meeting rooms equipped with video conferencing technology
• High-speed internet
• A members’ café and lounge area for
informal work
• A fitness room for members
• Community events and networking opportunities
Users can book spaces and manage memberships through the ALTURA Workspaces app, available on Apple App Store and Google Play.
A Growing Trend in Bermuda
As businesses continue to adapt to remote and hybrid work models, flexible office spaces like ALTURA are becoming an attractive alternative to traditional office rentals. Instead of committing to long-term leases, companies can access office space as needed, while freelancers and startups benefit from shared amenities and networking opportunities.
