www.ibde.org
BACKGROUND:
At this moment of European economic stasis - a consequence of the global financial and economic crisis and the subsequent sovereign debt crisis in the Eurozone - there is a compelling need to explore best practice in banking, finance and the international economic governance in the quest to restore confidence in financial markets and boost global economic growth. The IBDE’s “International Forum on Responsible Banking and Finance” provides a great opportunity to promote the need for more ethical and transparent business practice worldwide, where conduct amongst professionals and banking markets is more responsible in order to avoid the bad banking practices and financial scandals that have so damaged the image and credibility of financial institutions in recent years. Project aims: The Forums in this series aim to create an opportunity to discuss these challenges through a constructive dialogue amongst relevant stakeholders, such as policy-makers, industry practitioners, diplomats, as well as economic and finance experts from participating sectors and institutions. The meetings aim to encourage greater focus on best practice in banking and finance and seek constructive input through addressing the current developments in the banking and financial services sector with particular focus on issues such as: • • • • •
financial regulation - exploring the key issues and practices in banking regulation and supervision; corporate governance in banking; ethics and banking - ensuring that professionals and banking markets conduct is more responsible; long term risks of financial institutions and markets; sound investment practice.
In addition, the Forums will facilitate information exchange and contacts between prospective UK and international stakeholders. The topics under discussion at the 1st International Forum on Responsible Banking and Finance include • • • • •
