Dear MsiCandi,

Dear MsiCandi,

A lot of people have been using sex tapes as a way to get themselves exposure and to get famous. Do you think that the type of impact this scam has is positive or negative to someone’s career?

Every time I run into you, you’re doing your thing online. I’m amazed that you are a single mother. I would have thought someone like you would be married. How do you manage to do it all (your career and motherhood) on your own?

A saying that I constantly hear in this field is “there is no such thing as bad publicity. As long as they are talking about you it’s a good thing.” I guess it depends on how serious you want people to take you in your field. Women like Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, and especially Montana Fishburne are going to find it hard to EVER be taken seriously. They all have famous sex tapes floating around the world and although it helped put their names out there, no one really looks at them as smart, independent, business-minded women. Montana Fishburne stated that she wanted to be famous like Kim Kardishian so “Why not put out a porn?” Now if she wants to be the top porn star and known for the hottest sex moves then hey, she might be on to something. But you won’t ever see someone as well-respected as OPRAH using a sex tape as a publicity stunt. Although people would be talking about Oprah’s sex tape for years, she’d lose a lot of respect. So it really depends on how serious you want people to take you in your career. ~MsiCandi~

Nya (Cincinnati, Ohio) Hey Ms Nya!! You actually aren’t the first person that’s asked me this. First, it started with my friends, then family members, and now it’s my supporters. Being a single mother definitely has been a challenge but I have the best family and friends a girl could ask for. I have been surrounded by lots of love my whole life and nothing has changed. We all now just have a new person to love on. Being a single mother has actually become motivation for me. I have a child to support and I want to show her that if she applies herself really hard and goes after her dreams anything is possible. Life has a lot of twists and turns but you can’t let that stop you from reaching your destiny. Since starting iCandi Productions I’ve had young girls and even women (older than me) tell me that they look up to me. I refuse to disappoint them. So to answer the question. My family and friends support me ALOT and yes I miss out on some sleep (most of the time) but it will all be worth it in the end! lol ~MsiCandi~ Dear Shi, I’m a bi-curious woman with a 4 year old and I see that you are a bisexual woman with a young child as well. Have you ever introduced your child to someone you are dating (specifically a woman)? If so, how long did you wait and are you open to your child about your relationships? Anonymous Ms. Anon,

AS WE REFLECT OVER THE PAST YEAR, HAVE NO REGRETS! REMEMBER THAT EVERYTHING IS A LESSON. LEARN FROM IT, AND BECOME A BETER PERSON ~MSICANDI

and then me as a mother. So, as I’m “kicking it” or “hanging out”, he’s with a sitter. In due time it will be mutually agreed upon when to meet. I can’t say this has always been the issue, but different people, different situations. Pray about it and you will know.

First of all hello. :) I would like to begin by saying for me, I think your age and the fact that you are bi-curious and a mother is a big factor. There is a certain way you go about things when you never have experienced a female. The experience can be life changing and life altering. It’s no joke. So be careful in being new and trying new things.

Long story short, he’s 5 and he still doesn’t realize a lot. But, I do respect his feelings and will continue to do so as WE grow. But again, being curious and living the life is very different. So watch what you do and realize the people it might affect. -Shi~ Dear Brotha Insight, I’ve been trying to switch up the meals in my household and prepare organic meals, but my family doesn’t like the taste. I know that you once ate fattening foods (lol). So my question is, what are your favorite meals that remind you of your fat back, greasy soul food days? Joan (Cleveland, Ohio) First I want to say thank you Joan for the question. First I want to commend you for making changes to better you and your family’s lives. One of the first things you should do is find out what are your family’s favorite meals. Once you figure that out, look for healthier ways to prepare it. For example, I love pizza as most of us do. So my wife gets a whole wheat organic crust from the store. Instead of cheese we use soy cheese. Then we put our favorite veggies on there, like spinach, mushrooms, tomato, etc. If you want some meat you can put things on there like tofu sausage. The most important secret to making the meals taste better is the seasoning of the food. If the seasoning isn't right then nobody will like it, no matter if it's healthy or not. One ingredient I live by and put on everything is cayenne pepper. It gives your food a kick and it's really good for the heart and blood circulation. I hope I was able to help. PEACE…. ~Brotha Insight~

To answer your question. Yes my son meets my “friends” but everyone doesn't get the same treatment and time with him or myself. Meaning, as I learn a person I leave room for them to learn me ICANDI AFTER DARK E-NEWSLETTER

ICANDI LADY OF THE MONTH From the stage, to television and even film. Khrys is a well known Cincinnati Actress MsiCandi: The acting game is a hard one to break into. What advice do you have for upcoming aspiring actresses?

Khrys Stylez

Khrys: DO IT ALL (within reason, of course)! It’s not always about the money; it’s the craft, the art that should drive you.

On Acting MsiCandi: Khrys!! What’s up girl! We haven’t really chatted in a while. What current projects are you working on? Khrys: Well it depends (laughs). You know I’ve always got something going on! I do have a feature film shoot scheduled for this spring, and I will be featured on the new project from Bootsy Collins dropping in March. I’m also doing a major stage production for this year’s Fringe Festival, still hosting multiple television shows, and I have FINALLY have decided to step out on faith and pursue something after my own heart. I’m starting the K.A.S.S.I.E. (Keeping All Sistas Safe, Independent, & Educated) Foundation, and advocacy foundation for domestic violence. So let me know if you want to be part of my Supreme Dream Team... :) (we can talk about that later...lol) MsiCandi: How long have you been acting? What was your very first acting project? Khrys: (Laughs) Well, honestly when I popped out the womb, instead of crying, I said “TAADAAA...I’M HERE!!” (Laughs) Seriously, I’ve been performing from the moment I knew people would pay attention to me. (Laughs) Dancing and singing for my grandma’s company, doing talent shows - hey, I was a cute kid! (Laughs) My first big project came when I was five years old. I was featured in a series of children's books through Roundtree Publishing Co. I was the main character in one of the stories and featured in the other books, and it just fueled the flame on my fire to entertain! MsiCandi: I know you’ve done all types of roles in different venues such as television hosting, films, and stage plays. Which one do you find most challenging and why? Khrys: Hmmm...good question. It’s hard to say because each has its own set of challenges, but that’s what turns me on about them all, being able to meet those challenges and get the job done and to deliver to the viewers/audience what they paid for. However, I do love working with a live audience, whether I’m acting or hosting, because once you open your mouth, there is no editing. It’s just out there. (Laughs)

ICANDI AFTER DARK E-NEWSLETTER

STUDY! If there are people you respect in the business and you have the opportunity to hear them speak at a seminar or training class, GO! I once went across the country to take a class by Jason Alexander, who played ‘George’ on the show Seinfeld; girl, that was the best $800 I’ve spent. NEVER GIVE UP YOUR DREAM! If it’s in your heart, it WILL happen!

On Motherhood MsiCandi: Motherhood and acting; how do you find the time to balance it all? Khrys: I’ve always believed that we make time for the things we want to make time for. That being said, it wasn’t easy. In the beginning I put my passions on hold to raise my family. Once my babies were old enough I started auditioning and working towards my passion. Sometimes I’ve taken my kids with me (nope, no Bebe's kids over here). Now my children are my biggest supporters. My daughter even gave up her Sweet Sixteen to pay for a going away party for me when I decided to venture off to Los Angeles for a month. Not only did I work a 9-5 but I worked part-time in radio which allowed me to work in the industry, building relationships and such. Radio is acting too; it’s theater of the mind, and it was such a blessing to be able to take those skills on to television hosting. It really made a difference. MsiCandi: Being that acting is such a harsh field to enter, how would you respond if one of your children decided they wanted to act? Khrys: Actually, my oldest son is an actor. He and I have worked and toured together. I say “Mommie supports you in pursuing something positive and that makes you happy.” Pursuing anything in entertainment is a major challenge, and it takes a tough skin to do it. I admit I’m wayyy too sensitive to subject myself to so much rejection, but when I get a “yes”, it’s one of the best feelings in the world. I would love for my babies to experience that feeling in whatever they choose to do..

Khrys: Oh my God, I can’t believe you brought that up! (Laughs) YES, YES! I loved it, and I wish I had done more with the project. The team was great and way fun. I’m still waiting on the parody you promised me, Missy! Honestly, if the producer is happy with my work and felt good with the project (which was received with overwhelming support), I am pleased with it too. You are very talented and creative and I would be more than pleased and honored to work with you again. MsiCandi: Khrys, you’ve been a supporter of iCandi since the very beginning and you know I truly appreciate all you’ve done. Do you see yourself working with iCandi on future projects? Khrys: Well, the REAL question is, “When will ICandi be ready to work with Khrys Styles again?” Girl, I’m just a phone call and a flight away! (Laughs) MsiCandi: Okay, so where would one go to get a copy of any work you’ve done and to find out about your upcoming projects? Khrys: Well I’m honored to say that if you just Google me. Spell my name right (laughs), you will find a slew of my work. For a more direct contact, go to: www.khryssytles.com There you will find links to my other projects, footage from previous work, my bio, what I’m up to, and there is also a place to sign-up to become a supporter (on many levels) of my creative endeavors. Hmmm...the only link missing from my site is one to ICandi Productions. Let’s make that happen doll....:) Of course I’m on Facebook’ and I’m on IMDB (International Movie Data Base).. This is a place ALL serious actors need to strive to be!

On iCandi MsiCandi: You were featured in the iCandi Video Parody “Good Boy.” Did you enjoy working on the project and were you satisfied with the end result?

“MAAFA 21” The word "Maafa" (also known as the Afrikan Holocaust) is derived from a Kiswahili word meaning disaster, terrible occurrence or great tragedy. The term today collectively refers to the Pan-Afrikan study of the five hundred hundred years of suffering of people of Afrikan heritage through Slavery, Imperialism, Colonialism, Oppression, Invasions and Exploitation. There is a new "Maafa" taking place today called the "Maafa 21", which stands for the Afrikan Holocaust and Genocide of the 21st Century. There is a documentary out called the "Maafa 21" that has inspired me to write this article. Please go and pick that up when you have a chance. Let’s ask a question: What is the #1 cause of death among blacks in this country? Some of you will say heart disease, diabetes, HIV and AIDS and maybe black-on-black crime. Those are good answers, but most people wouldn’t know the #1 cause of death to us is abortions. Yes, abortions, and even I was dumbfounded when I learned this. Since they were legalized in 1973, abortions have killed more blacks than AIDS, cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and violent crime combined. Every week, more blacks die in American abortion clinics than were killed in the entire Vietnam War. The largest chain of abortion clinics in this country are operated by Planned Parenthood. This was taken right from the documentary. Black babies

are five times more likely to be aborted than a white child. The abortion industry at this point kills as many black people every four days as the Ku Klux Klan killed in 150 years. If that doesn't raise your antennas than nothing else will. Who made this next statement? "Those whom we could not get rid of in the rice paddies of Vietnam, we now propose to exterminate if necessary, eliminate if possible, in the OB/GYN clinics of our urban hospitals.” These were words of the Rev. Jessie L. Jackson in a local Chicago newspaper in 1973. People wonder why I don’t support him at all. Now take a look at your city and notice where are all the Planned Parenthood and abortion clinics located. If you haven’t noticed, they are right in urban and metro areas. Former President of the NAACP Rev. Benjamin Hooks personally told Pastor Levon Yuille of Michigan, “That abortion was a topic that would tear up the NAACP and he would never bring it to the floor for discussion. It would be best not to bring up the subject going forward.” To this day, the NAACP doesn't touch this matter because they are in bed with Planned Parenthood. People wonder why I don’t support them at all. There is a sister who is on the

O

N

E

R

front lines fighting to bring awareness to our people about this very issue. She is Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She has confronted the NAACP several times about this and they won't allow her into any meetings and their annual gatherings. I wrote this article to bring awareness to this serious issue. I challenge you all to go and do your own research. Some of the most famous and wealthy people in this country are pledging billions to Planned Parent Hood, such as Warren Buffet, Bill Gates and Ted Turner. I hope this was insightful information; thanks for reading. PEACE AND BLESSINGS FAMILY….Ya Brotha Insight

MU S I C RE V I E W S w i t h J . anto i nne Tank (Now Or Never) Atlantic Records - 2010

Here is Tank with his fourth album Now or Never, and he is determined to bring REAL R&B and REAL singing back to the forefront. In a market flooded with rappers singing with Auto-Tune and lackluster vocals, it's refreshing to hear his voice. The first single "Emergency" is riding up the charts, and other standout cuts include "Celebration" and even "Foreplay" with Chris Brown. Tank is letting all those other wannabe singers that it's okay to SING and be grown&sexy at the same time. This is definitely one of those CDs you can play in an "after dark" session.

Keri Hilson (No Boys Allowed)

R. Kelly (Love Letter)

Interscope/Zone 4/Mosley - 2010

Jive Records 2010

Keri Hilson has never really been as wellregarded as a singer as she is a producer and writer, but here she is with an album where she displays her voice. Here, she sounds comfortable in her own voice, not trying to be anyone else, and what results is a nice, well-rounded album. "Breaking Point" is a very good song, as is the other singles "The Way You Love Me" and "Pretty Girl Rock", but it's songs like "Toy Soldier" and "One Nigh Stand" that may solidify Keri as an artist in her own right.

(B+) (4 stars)

(A+) (5 stars)

(A) (4.5 stars) Kandi (Kandi Koated)

**DON’T MISS THIS**

Asylum Records - 2010

There comes a time when you buy a CD and you play the album all the way through and you wonder, "What did I just listen to?" That's the feeling that listening to this CD will bring. One can be taken aback by the stellar production and lyrics and vocal production, but there's something about the singing that seems...amiss. Kandi probably sounds better as a group singer, not necessarily a solo artist. There's an irritating screech that comes out when she gets into her upper register (one that wasn't fixed in the studio), and it makes you envision her straining to the uppermost reaches of her vocals. "I Just Know" is an awesome song though, enough to not make this album a complete dud.

R. Kelly had fallen into limbo with most of his music sounding the same, but this album is a FAR departure from that. He seems to have felt the need to show that he can still sing, which he does on this album, his eleventh(!). Elements of that rap-singing have been replaced with REAL vocals. He's borrowed some musical elements from yesteryear's decades and kept them current, making this album sound like remakes of old songs (but they're not). "Love Letter", "Taxi Cab", and "Butterfly" (a bonus track) are worth the CD purchase alone.

Jamie Foxx - Best Night of My Life - A well-rounded album of uptempos and ballads that everyone should like. Alexander O'Neal - Five Questions: The New Journey - The legendary crooner is back with some new flavor but the same, smooth voice.

Where there’s life, there’s music... J. Antoinne

Weʼve decided that with all the “Man Candi” supporters we have at iCandi Afterdark, we had to have a feature man of the month. So we have now added the “Candi Kane” of the month. This monthʼs featured “Candi Kane” is none other than Rommey Rome. Remember him? The Go2Gurl Shi Interviewed Rommey and check out what heʼs been doing lately.... Shi: Roooooooooooommey! Hey whatʼs up? Where have you been? What have you been up to? Rommey: Ayyyye wuz up!! (laughs) Iʼve been here in Dayton, and traveling a lot. Partying like a rockstar!! Shi: So you actually won the BET Ultimate Fan contest. How was that experience? Rommey: Yes i did!!! (in my happy voice) That experience was the best the thing that has ever happened to me, next to my kids being born. Shi: Who all did you meet and take pics with? Rommey: i met d*mn near all the BET staff, Busta Rhymes, MC Lyte, Terrence & Rocsi, Diddy, Luda, Patti LaBelle, Prince, Lisa Raye, and the list goes on... i met sooo many stars! But i have pics with Diddy, Lisa Raye, Lloyd, Roscoe Dash, Kareem Rush(former Lakers player), T & Rosci, Bobby Valentino, Keri Hilson, just to name a few... i have ʻem all on my Facebook page. Shi: Has winning the contest opened up and career aspirations for you? Rommey: Oh yes it has!! I have BET following me on Twitter, and they are watchinʼ my YouTube videos. I still call one of the employees up almost all the time. Weʼre real cool! She wants me to submit a video when they have the BET's NEW FACES SEARCH. they only have it like every 3 years, and 2011 is going to be the year they do it again. And Iʼm hosting parties for a few clubs around here also. Shi: Tell us a little about yourself...married? single? father? dating? We want details. Rommey: (Laughs) No, Iʼm not married..... YET! (Laughs) Iʼm as single as they come. I wouldnʼt say that Iʼm dating. Iʼll say that Iʼm just flirting!! (Laughs) Itʼs so hard for me to find someone who can handle my personality and Iʼm sooo picky about who I bring around my kids. Some women even get mad at me because I have custody of my kids, and I just canʼt go out with them ALL the time! They arenʼt the ones for me!! Shi: Quick question: How did you hook up with MsiCandi and the iCandi movement? A regular listener or old ʻNati friend? Rommey: i hooked up with MsiCandi off Twitter. I was on there talkinʼ stuff, and she was doing the same!! (Laughs) I like that! Then she told me about the iCandi After Dark radio show, so I went and checked it out, and i liked it, so she asked me did i wanna co-host on the show with them, and i said H*LL YEAH!

Honoring Black Love (1-28-2011)

(1-21-2011)

The Games Women Play! Have you seen the movie “Two Can Play that Game”? Ladies: Have you ever tried to set certain guidelines to keep your man in check? Fellas: Have you ever had a woman play these type of games with you? Do they work? Is it a waste of time? Are men really trainable? Lets discuss it!

This has been a battle within the African American community for a while now. Do words like “B*tch” & “N*gga” have new meaning? I remember when they were disrespectful terms. Have you noticed how much the music has changed in the R&B & Hip Hop genre? We are going to explore the changes and discuss if it for the good or for the bad. Is Hip Hop & R&B dead??
