The Streets Are Talking with Ms Mocha (The Gossiping Diva)
What is a “Starter Wife” Lately, there has been a lot of buzz about a new show on TLC called “Starter Wives Confidential,” and the use of the word ‘Wives’ in the title. The reality show follows Monica Joseph-Taylor (ex-wife of Funkmaster Flex), Tashera Simmons (ex-wife of DMX), Josie Harris (ex-fiance/baby mama of Floyd Mayweather), Liza Morales (ex-girlfriend/baby mama of Lamar Odom) and Zakia Baum (ex-girlfriend/baby mama of Maino). Now I know what are you thinking; the show is called Starter ‘Wives’ Confidential and only two out of the bunch were actually wives? I thought the same thing, and after watching the show I had to write about it. A “Starter Wife” (by my definition) is a woman who finds a man she thinks has potential but may not be there yet (I like to call them ‘projects’). She dust him off (sometimes literally), gives him swag, confidence, and class, and dedicates her time, loyalty, and sometimes money into making this man all he that he can be. It could also be a man that she has known since childhood (childhood sweetheart) that she held down and loved when he had nothing. This could have a happy ending. and once he has it together he makes her his wife. Or, this same man could take all that she has invested and taught him and commits to or “wifes up” the next chick. This is a huge slap in the face and big waste of time to the woman! The ordeal could devastate the woman so bad that it knocks her off her game and makes her unable to truly trust again. The scars from that relationship sometimes hinder her from having future healthy relationships. Although I sympathize with this situation, and will be the first to admit to having had a “project” or two in my day, I have to argue that the only reason that woman did not become the ‘wife’ is because she did not set a standard. She put in the work before she made it clear what her expectations were. Basically, she made an investment without a sure return! The old saying goes: “Why buy the cow if you’re getting the milk for free?” If you don’t set the bar, the next woman will. This will render you a “Starter Wife” for life, never to become a wife!

But then, we drive down the highway and hear the exact words to express our true feelings. Bucks with BUX Most people drive themselves crazy over what to do for Valentine’s Day. Express your love without expressing all of your money. Some don’t think so, but the sooner that you shop the less that something may cost; also check against the online prices. ( HEY EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS.) You just have to learn how to be creative. Shop some of the old holiday bins for candy; slip the holiday decor off and decorate and bam! There you go! For the romantic part, shop the dollar store. I was in my local dollar store and saw a basket that was put together with candy, candles, oils, and fake roses petals for under $10. Grab your sweetie and have a lovely Valentine’s Day

Dawn Richard - Goldenheart Our Dawn Entertainment, 2013 Long before her claim to fame as the frontwoman of the Making the Band series’ now-defunct group Danity Kane, Richard had been recording songs and albums to varying degrees of success. Although her most success came from the aforementioned group’s success, she’s still been thriving behind the scenes. Here, with this effort, Richard brings a collection of songs that might draw comparisons to R&B counterpart with her similar vocal acrobatics, but some of the material sounds like leftover songs from Danity Kane’s recording sessions. While she shines vocally on crisp songs like “Break of Dawn” and “Goldenheart”, “Goliath” doesn’t inspire you to want to hear it again, nor does “Gleaux” or “Pretty Wicked Things”. Fans of Danity Kane might enjoy this album, or even some club heads, but don’t expect this album to be timeless. (3 Stars)(C)

Eric Roberson - Eric Roberson presents When Love Calls Blue Erro Soul, 2012
Avery has been on the underground scene for years, but that should be soon to change, based on the airplay that her 2010 album is suddenly now getting. That’s for good reason, because this is probably one of the best albums that’s been released in the 21st century, if ever. Avery’s soulful alto is poised, her harmonies crisp, her arrangements profound, and her production and instrumentation on point. This album has a live feel that’s perfect for that backyard barbecue or that lazy Sunday after cleaning. The buzzworthy single “Ugly Part of Me” has been getting deserved spins lately, and that’s just the cusp of the awesomeness of this album. The droll of “Today” and sultriness of “Need You Now” will keep you quite enthused, as will the gospel-kissed “Blessin’ Me” and groovy “Like This”. All albums should hope to be as together as this one. (5 Stars)(A+)
Eric Roberson consistently delivers awesome, classic-enthused soulful albums that you can just press play, kick back your feet, and enjoy, and this album is no exception. He’s cultivated and crafted a collection of songs that bring real soul back to the forefront and gives you that live, front row seat feel. The album’s opener, the title track, starts you off well, weaving a tale of how you can’t underestimate the power of love when it calls, simply put. Jill Scott bares her feel-good soul stirrings in a nice duet with Roberson, the head-bopping “One Time”, and other gems include the throwback sounds of “The Moon”, the slow groove of “Weekend Getaway”, and slow-paced but catchy “Break It Down”. This is definitely classic Eric and any true R&B fans should not miss out on this album, much less any others before this one. (4.75 Stars)(A+)
MUSIC REVIEWS “Where there’s life, there’s music” ~J. Antoinne~ iCandi Productions Destiny’s Child - Love Songs Sony, 2013 Destiny’s Child are superstars, so people KNOW their songs. That said, anyone crazy enough to buy this CD is just that... crazy. This is an overly apparent ploy to satisfy some contractual agreement with Columbia/Sony Records; why else would this poorly collected album see the light of the day? For the album to be titled Love Songs, why include a song about leaving your current mate for a new thrill (“If You Leave”), a song about the potential to cheat (“Temptation”), or even a song about not wanting someone anymore after they’ve left (“Now That She’s Gone”)?? They have recorded many awesome “unreleased” songs, such as the amazing “Game Over”, the solid “Show Me”, and the even more solid “Forever Starts Today” (the latter two including ex-members LeToya and LaTavia, which, strangely enough, are like other songs on this album that Michelle is not on). Die-hard fans won’t pick up the album because they already have the songs. New fans won’t be interested because the lackluster “Nuclear” barely made a blip on any radio stations. There are people that can make better Destiny’s Child compilations than this malarkey. Shame! (0.5 Stars)(F)

By Tiffany Ware- Lead Make Up Artist/Founder of CreaTIFF Faces Make Up Artistry Since it’s February, in the spirit of Valentine’s Day and all things lovey-dovey, let’s discuss the perfect red lipstick. A wonderful red lipstick is a lot like a little black dress. You have to have one in your girly arsenal, and it has to be that one that’s a showstopper when you decide to pull it out. It is a timeless and classic lip color that some people choose to pull out regularly, while others tend to save it for special occasions like enticing that special someone to watch every single word as it tiptoes from your lips on date night. Whatever the reason is, what’s most important is that you find the right one. You know, the one that gives just enough “va-va-voom” and takes you out of the Ronald McDonald category. Truly, the best way to find the right red lipstick for your skin tone is to try it on. Stop by a few department store makeup counters and have at it. Try on a ton of them until you find yourself giving yourself the “wink and the gun” in the mirror. I do realize that all of us aren’t on that type of budget, and prefer to stay within our means and purchase our cosmetics at our local drugstores where we can’t necessarily try them on without purchasing first. Below is a step by step guide that should help you pick the right shade of red for you right through that awful plastic packaging. Step 1: Figure out if your skin is warm-toned or cool-toned? Most of the time, skin tones are either warm or cool. Ever so often someone is truly neutral, which means they could go either way. Here’s what you do: Look at your inner wrist area. Do you see pink/ rosy/reddish undertones, or are your undertones more yellowish/sometimes a slight orangey color? Many women with paler complexions tend to have rosy undertones, which mean they are cool. Women with olive or tawny complexions tend to be warm.
Step 2: Look for the right lipstick shade. For cool undertones: pinkish-reds, berry-reds, brickreds, etc. For warm undertones: orangey-reds, warm-reds, golden-reds, brown-reds, tomato-reds, etc. Super dark skin: (think Alek Wek): deep pinkish-reds, dark cherry or burgundy-reds If you are still in need of help determining your undertones and shades, check out the brief description of each skin tone below.
PORCELAIN: This ultra-light skin tone with cool undertones looks best with a cool red with hints of plum, but looks daring with a warm red. FAIR: This light skin tone with cool undertones also is most harmonious with a cool red, while a warm red is bold. BISQUE: This pink under-toned skin color looks best with a cool red, but can also pull off the warm red. BEIGE: This skin color with yellow undertones is most harmonious with a warm red, but can wear a cool red too. OLIVE: Warm reds look best on this skin color but cool reds look pretty too. This complexion may sometimes have green undertones. TAWNY: Warm reds are the way to go for this skin tone, but can pull off some cool reds too. CARAMEL: Cool reds are wearable but warm reds are more gorgeous on this skin tone. ALMOND: Warm reds are decent on this skin tone but the cool reds work best on these DARK CHOCOLATE: The best look for this complexion is blue-based reds.
Step 3: Determine if the shade compliments your complexion. The red that you choose should brighten up your complexion, not look garish, harsh, or in your face bold. Once you have become comfortable with being able to eye the right shade of red for you, you can then play around with texture. Try glosses or a shiny shellac-looking red. If you prefer a more conservative matte, try that out too. If you like a shiny red more than matte, go with that. Experiment with drugstore brands until you have the perfect one. Step 4: An Application Tip Once you’ve found your color make sure your lips are in perfect condition. Chapped lips are not cute peeling through a pouty red mouth. Exfoliate lips to prevent dryness and cracking. Use a warm wet baby toothbrush to rub off dead skin and follow up with a lip balm to keep your lips moist. Next, apply a touch of concealer to provide an even base for your color. Sometimes your own natural lip color may alter the hue of the lipstick you are applying. Next, with a lip pencil in a complementary shade, fill in lips entirely. This will make color last longer. Finally, apply your lipstick with a tiny lip brush starting at the center of your mouth and blending outward. Press your lips together, blot with a tissue to get rid of excess product. Bethany Warde A knock sounded on my office door and my secretary peered around the door. He grinned and shook his head when I barely glanced away from my computer screen at him. “Ms. Warde, it’s definitely past office hours,” Jeremy said. I sighed. I knew it was late. We had finished the meeting regarding the Ball over an hour ago and it was late then. Eric Marlonson was determined to upstage iCandi Productions any way possible, but messing with the annual Charity Ball, my pet project, was a low blow that I refused to stand for. “I know. I’m just finishing up making a few notes. You should definitely go home.” I continued typing. Jeremy pushed the door open and walked into my office, crossing his arms and glaring at me. Jeremy took his job very seriously. I had given him a chance when no one else would due to his lack of experience. He was the sole provider for his mother while putting his younger sister through college. He had taken it upon himself to care for me as well and I loved him for it.
“Staying here all night working will only cost you work time tomorrow when you pass out from exhaustion.” He raised one eyebrow at me. I sighed again and began shutting down my computer. He smiled and winked at me before heading back to his desk. I knew he was right, I could feel the exhaustion settling into my bones. Twenty minutes later I bid Jeremy goodbye in the parking garage and climbed into my car. As the car started up the radio came on. Sydney Melrose’s voice filled the silence. I smiled. Sydney was iCandi Radio’s number one DJ. Everyone loved her. She had two shows a day, five days a week in order to keep up with demand. She was a little larger than life and I knew if I ever needed anything all I had to do was call her. I waved to the security guard who waved back before activating the gate. The drive home was quick. I lived in a gated condominium community. It was newly built and all of the neighbors made a habit of getting to know one another. Every few months someone threw a barbeque that everyone would be invited to. It was close knit group that looked out for each other. Once inside my condo, I immediately ran a tub of hot water to soak in. I had been up since very early and the exhaustion was about to knock me off my feet, but I needed the relief a nice soak would bring me.
I didn’t normally push myself past my limits, but the Ball was something I took personally. I was the head of the committee in charge of the Ball. Every year we had held it, the Ball was a huge success. I was determined that this year would be too, because all proceeds went to further research on multiple sclerosis. I knew the pain and confusion living with MS could bring. “I brought you coffee and breakfast.” Jeremy met me at the elevators the next morning. It never mattered what time we left the night before or how early I arrived in the morning, he was always at work five minutes before I arrived. I really did need to give him a raise. The morning proceeded quickly. Several meetings later, I reached a break in my schedule. I immediately began to use the time to do more work on the Ball. I received confirmation that the initial advertisements had been completed and sent to the printers for a rush order. More advertisements would be made once we confirmed more celebrities’ attendance. We would also have special advertisements printed regarding the items that would be included in the silent auction. I had already made several calls to local auction houses and celebrities for items for the auction. Several of our more famous iCandi members would be donating time and items. Candace had already volunteered to be shadowed for the day and Sydney was donating radio time.
Jeremy ordered in lunch for me and delivered it to me in my office. I hadn’t even realized how much time had flown by. I gratefully dug into the steaming Chinese food. Out of nowhere, my vision blurred. I rubbed my eyes. It didn’t seem to help. I forced myself to relax in my chair and closed my eyes. I never knew when one of the symptoms would strike. Or which one would choose to rear its ugly head. Living with MS sometimes made life difficult. Symptoms could appear and disappear with no warning. I could go long stretches of time without any symptoms at all to be suddenly plagued with them. I was in the early onset of MS. I had done the research; I knew what could happen as time progressed. The thought of one day losing my ability to walk was a hard one for me. It was something that I simply couldn’t accept. Not many people outside of my family and close friends knew that I had been diagnosed with MS. I had spent my entire life working hard. I had proven that I was trustworthy and any task given to me would be completed efficiently and quickly. Any project that I was in charge of would succeed. I would not allow my disease to undermine me or to cause people to doubt me. One day I would have to tell others; the day would come when I couldn’t keep it secret, but I just wasn’t ready for that day. Join us next month for more Candi Ladies........

When a man loves a woman, he will share his most protected possession. He confides in her and seeks her counsel. She is able to comfort him like no one can. When he loves her, he does not care what anyone else thinks. In fact, he rarely asks for outside opinions. He would lay his life down for her. She is his Queen and he is her King. Her sacrifices are worth more than gold to him. No, they don’t always agree, but never does he treat or speak to her harshly. In the middle of the day when he thinks about her, it makes him proud, and the only time he would ever raise his hand to her would be to pray for her. She is very sure of herself. She realizes that this love is no coincidence and he’s not into her for convenience. They both know that each of them have a past, something, or someone that they left behind. They both had to walk away from things that they wanted in order to enjoy what they both deserved. He does not remind her of her past. He does not share her fears with her enemies for them to use against her. Sometimes after he has worked all day, he still cooks her food, prepares her plate, cuts her steak, and enjoys a nice candlelit dinner date. Nothing is too much for her and she feels the same way about him. It’s a partnership; a two way street. So how do you know when he really loves you? You know he really loves you because you love you, therefore you know how it should feel when someone really loves you.

By Latoya Evans “Why do you love the Obamas?” someone asked me. The first thing I thought of was the love. Sure Michelle and Barack have held some very impressive positions, but their love for each other is what touches me the most. I have noticed that I am not the only one that feels that way about them. People love them because their interactions with each other are genuine. They don’t fake it because the advisers tell them to; what you see is what you get. Within those interactions you feel the love.
WHY WE LOVE BARACK & MICHELLE “THE OBAMAS” I feel that they are the model couple for all generations. The Obamas are America’s couple, America’s family. Some time after the Inauguration ceremony, Barack and Michelle walked down the street hand in hand, waving to those who came to see their president sworn in for another term in office. Everyone was cheering, waving, and screaming. This was history in the making yet again. For the president, it was a sense of accomplishment and relief. His first lady was by his side the whole time.
They held hands and waved. They exchanged loving glances and kind words. They acted a little goofy towards the end with the crowd. Then it was off to the next event. Even though the moment seemed so trivial it showed their true love for each other. Couples can go through the motions everyday with no feeling and no one would care or notice. What made the Obamas’ moment so special is that you could feel the love as they walked down that street.
Our children can see that through the Obamas that they can be whatever they want to be, even the President. The Obamas are a model couple for all generations. They came from hardworking families that wanted the absolute best for them. Their careers intersected and provided them the opportunity to meet. They pushed each other to achieve their personal goals and the goals they set together. Family came first in their decisions. Today, they show us that anything is possible. Our children can see that through the Obamas that they can be whatever they want to be, even the president. When we were young we were told that we could be president, too. I guess it’s not too late for us either.
In 2008, Michelle and Barack did a fist bump when they learned he won the Democratic nomination. When asked about the first lady in an interview, Barack bit his lip and said, “I love that woman”. Recently Michelle was on “Live with Kelly and Michael”. They asked her the silliest questions about the president and she answered them with ease. These were not premeditated moments. These were moments that gave us the opportunity to see who they really were and they nailed it! They don’t have to fake it. They are truly in love. It’s refreshing to see the leader of our nation in such a great position; being a husband, lover, father, and the president. It’s also great to see such a strong woman by his side. Who said that black love was dying? Given their strong example, we all still have a chance.

does it still exist in our culture? Romance is defined as “an emotional attraction or aura belonging to an especially heroic era, adventure, or activity, love affair." Romance is and should be an emotional attraction, because in order to provide and begin to enter into the romantic zone you must be attracted on an emotional level. Why? To embrace romance you must have a sincere interest in the person you plan to romance. It’s easy to fall into this zone, but often this is identified as LUST. This theory of lust, if acted upon properly, can be transformed into romance. We as men/women must require this romance to take place for the magic to happen. Man or Woman, you have to think outside of the normal dating process. Romance is sending flowers, showing up with chocolate, bringing a bottle of wine along with a written poem, cooking a dinner over candle light, having a picnic by the river or your own backyard as long as it’s spontaneous; that’s just a few examples. Romance can be on a totally different level depending on the person. Buying your partner's favorite book and leaving it under the pillow or having it shipped to their home; writing a love note and leaving it in their packed lunch to read during the day when you're not around; if they catch the bus, showing up at the bus stop with flowers and giving them a ride; those are simple things that show you care and that they are worthy of going that extra mile to prove it. The best way to approach romance is getting to know your partner. Focus on providing them happiness and expressing your sincere interest in that person and not expecting anything in return. In the African American culture we have seen a decline in the romantic arena. It’s almost like chivalry is dead, but don’t worry; as long as I LIVE & LOVE it will not be lost. We must first replace the poor images of love in our households and community.
We need to allow our children and peers to see pure love and passion; when you say your partner’s name you should feel the romance and passion. Many will say that is easier said than done, but that is not true. If you do not generally feel the passion and love for your partner, you need to move on, because this is the beginning source for a long term relationship. WOMEN and MEN, don’t settle for a phone call and dinner and think you have the right one; set expectations, and return the favor, make someone want to romance you. It’s a mutual action. Once you create the romance the relationship flourishes. You don’t have to wonder if the person is really for you anymore because actions speak louder than words. I challenge all parents to start teaching your sons to open the door for young ladies; do it for their sisters, grandmothers, aunts. etc. continued on page 28.

Hold the door open at the mall/church/school etc., so others can walk through; be a gentleman, and a young lady. We have to lead by example and we have to show we have mutual respect for each other as a whole. If we embrace these concepts we can change the future and bring back the romance. Had they not let him keep the title he could have sued them because he had it in writing that he could name it what he wanted. At the peak of his career he left all the money and fame to fight for his people. This reason alone is why I love and respect this man so much. The same year his first book came out he went and marched with Dr. King in Selma, Alabama. He also marched with the great Medgar Evers in Jackson, MS., and he was personal friends with Malcolm X. Dick Gregory once ran from California to New York for world hunger, and he did 26 miles a day. He told us about our health and that meat was bad for it, and how we need to drink a gallon of water a day and get plenty of rest. If there was one man I would be willing to follow it would be Baba Dick Gregory. I encourage you all to go look up more info on him, and please get his book “NIGGER”; it will truly change your life. Who is DICK GREGORY know the first thing you thought was, “I know who Dick Gregory is,” but there are some things about this great man you might not have known. I’m still on cloud nine because I had the pleasure of interviewing this great man just a few weeks ago. With all the things he has done, I feel it’s very important for us to know about him. Richard Claxton Gregory was born October 12, 1932 in St. Louis, MO. Mr. Gregory grew up in one of the toughest areas in St. Louis. His family was very poor and experienced some hard times. Nevertheless, he was blessed with a gift for running, and he received a track scholarship to attend Southern Illinois University, not far from home. He was so good he broke the school record for the mile and half mile. He was drafted to the army after his 2nd year of school.
While in the army he started doing comedy; he was a natural from the first time he stepped on stage. After serving his country and leaving Southern Illinois University, he moved to Chicago, IL to try his hand at comedy full time. He had his fair share of struggles, but he never quit and stayed with it. After a few years of doing black clubs on the south side, he had his big break. He was invited to perform on the north side of Chicago at the Playboy Club, owned by Hugh Hefner. Dick went and did his thing and turned it out. He became a regular at the club, something no other black comic at that time was doing, and his career took off. In 1963 he wrote his first of fifteen books and titled it “NIGGER,” an autobiography. The publishers didn’t want to put the book out because of the name, but they told him he could title it whatever he wanted.

Welcome to “Mind Your Business”, where you’ll get some tips, tricks, and suggested literature to the business world that you may have never thought about. So you want to own your own business but don’t know where to start? The first thing you really need for a business is a dream. If you don’t have one of those, you’ll just be wasting your time and time really is money. So, if you don’t want to invest the time to get the money, you can continue to live a life working for someone else’s dream. There isn’t anything wrong with that if you are truly doing what you love. In that case, work doesn’t seem like work.
However, if you don’t, make the best of it until another opportunity comes your way. There is a misconception that you have to go to college and get a degree to become a business owner. That is so far from the truth. If you are ambitious, you have goals, and things that you want to accomplish in life, you can do those things when you put your mind to it. There is also a misconception that you need a lot of money to start a business as well. Now that depends on the industry you’re looking into. In today’s economy, new opportunities are popping up left and right. The question is, are you going to take advantage of it?
Remember, the choice is yours. Entrepreneurship is the starting point for most businesses period. You have people with an idea who write that idea down, do a little bit of research, find a need and fill it, thus creating a new company. Entrepreneurs are the ones who create jobs. In fact, I’m pretty sure that the company you work for was thought up by an entrepreneur. Some of you may not have known this but if you set up a lemonade stand and sold a cup for $.25, $.50, or even a $1.00, you my friend just became an entrepreneur. You had a product that people wanted during the hot summer months and fulfilled their thirst.
Is it that house on the lake in North Carolina? Is it spending quality time with your family… with your children? What is it that you want from this life? Let’s start there. Write your dreams down. Think about them. Think about what you want or what you don’t want. Remember this is your business, your dreams, your goals, and ultimately, your choice.
Or maybe you cut grass in your neighborhood for $20 a yard. Whatever it was when you were younger, you were in business and didn’t even know it. Every single one of us has the spirit of being an entrepreneur. Some of us tap into that power and use it to do extraordinary things that can change the path of our lives. Some of us never dig deep within ourselves to realize our potential to do great things. Well, I’m here to tell you that no matter how old you are, your color or creed, ethnicity, background, or even your past, you have the opportunity to make some of your dreams come true. You too can be a business owner and it can be something as simple as taking a hobby that you do and deciding to make money from it on a more consistent basis.
A recommended book to help get you started on this path is ‘The Magic of Thinking Big’ by Dr. David J. Schwartz. For starters, just read chapters 2, 11, and 12. You can read the whole book if you want, but I guaran“Where do I begin”, you ask? As I stated in the first paragraph, tee that after reading those three you need a dream. How do you chapters, you life will change or you will throw the book get a dream? Well, you hang around dreamers. You know the across the room. I remember friend or friends who are always reading this book and getting so upset that NO ONE gave me talking about what their life is this book until I was well into going to be like and are actumy twenties. This book should ally doing something to back be recommended in all public that up? Those are the people you want to be around to catch a high schools, but that’s just my dream. You’ll run across people opinion. who will say what they plan to do but aren’t doing anything to pursue it. You might want to limit your interaction with them. Those are the ones who are most likely going to say that you can’t do whatever you are planning to do to keep you from doing it. Dreams are goals with Mind Your Business is intended to inspire, motivate, encourage, help and a date. If you have a dream but be an instrument for you to chase not a date, it’s only a wish and there isn’t enough time to waste that dream of yours as well as improve your current career choice. What comes to mind when you read the words “Storm Raging Peace”? Is it even possible to have peace in the midst of a storm? We’ve all heard the phrase “Peace in the Midst of the Storm,” but how do we attain such a thing? Every time you turn on the news there are reports of hurt, economic uncertainties, and turmoil. The world seems upside down. Storms are raging all around us and if you’re waiting on the world to get better before you experience peace, let me just be honest and say “It ain’t gonna happen.” So what’s the magic formula you ask? I’ll tell you; simply put, it’s CHOICE and FOCUS!!! What you put your focus and energy into is what life will look like for you. You choose how you handle a storm. You’re probably thinking that’s easier said than done, but I’m here to tell you that with practice and the good book (the Bible) you can experience “Storm Raging Peace.” It’s your CHOICE.
Let’s break down what the bible says on attaining peace. Philippians 4:6-7 says “Do not be anxious about anything (basically, stop worrying), but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving (REMAIN THANKFUL NO MATTER HOW THINGS LOOK), present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Say, for example, you’re in need of a job. Make your request to God (Pray) about your storm. Next you turn on the TV and there’s a report of more job closings. Right then you can choose to focus on the bad report, believe that you’re never going to get a job and walk in doubt or you can REMAIN in THANKSGIVING no matter what you see. Immediately say “Thank you God for my job.” Put your focus on the new job you believe God is bringing you and keep it there. Of course, Satan will bring things your way to steal your peace and cause doubt, but your job is to remain in thanksgiving. There will always be opportunities to worry and focus on your current storm. Storms will rage but peace comes when we put our focus on God and his promises. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. This is how we attain “Storm Raging Peace.”

Who doesn’t enjoy breakfast in bed? With Valentine’s Day almost here, why not try to get a little fancy with your Valentine’s Day breakfast menu? Try these recipes and let me know how they turn out.
Eggs Lorraine Recipe Ingredients: 4 slices Canadian bacon 2 slices Swiss cheese 4 eggs 2 tablespoons sour cream 1/8 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon pepper Minced chives, optional Directions: Coat two shallow oval 1-1/2-cup baking dishes with cooking spray. Line with Canadian bacon; top with cheese. Carefully break two eggs into each dish. In a small bowl, whisk sour cream, salt and pepper until smooth; drop by teaspoonfuls onto eggs. Bake, uncovered, at 350° for 2530 minutes or until eggs are completely set. Sprinkle with chives if desired. Yield: 2 servings.
Red Velvet Pancakes Ingredients: 1 box of red velvet pancake mix {+ ingredients} whipped cream fresh blueberries maple syrup – optional Directions: Mix pancake mix according to package directions. Spray a griddle with cooking spray and heat over medium-high heat. Place approximately 2-3 tablespoons of batter onto center of pan and cook until pancake edges start to bubble. Using a spatula, carefully flip pancake and cook approximately 1-2 minutes until pancake is cooked through. Continue until you have desired amount of pancakes. 3. Top with whipped cream, fresh blueberries and maple syrup if desired.
Champagne with Strawberries 1 pint lemon sherbet 2 pints strawberries, hulled and sliced 2 cups champagne Directions: Drop scoops of sherbet into 4 tall clear glasses. Top with strawberry slices, then pour in champagne until filled.
