$Bucks with “Bux”$
Groceries on a Budget
“Bux” Meghan, also known as “Bux”, is the Marketing Coordinator for iCandi Productions. She got the name Bux because she really knows how to pinch a penny.
In this economy we all are always trying to save a dime if possible. But with our new segment of Bucks with Bux, I am here to let you know that it is possible to save money if you really want to. If you are like me, you are always in the grocery shops (all of those visits can start to add up). Well lucky for you I have a tip for you that should be able to help. Shop the supermarket sale cycle By being familiar with the store sales, you are able to get more bang for your buck. During this time you will see bogo (buy one, get one) products or things that aren’t normally on sale. Sale cycles are usually every twelve weeks. You can ask workers at your local store for more details. Don’t be afraid to use generic! Not all products you have to use brand. Compare the ingredients of the generic and the name brand before buying. Make sure that they have the same ingredients and that the generic does not have more unhealthy ingredients than the brand. It is not smart to buy something less healthy to save money; use to your own discretion.) Don’t forget about coupons Coupons can be pains in the you know what, but you can easily save a lot of money by becoming a coupon collector. They will become more valuable than you think, especially if you use the coupons during a sale. Happy Shopping! ~BUX~

“Man Candi” of the Month Ran Muzik
MsiCandi: The New single “Rock Out” is Hot!!!! Where did the inspiration come from?? Ran: For me, music itself is inspiring. I heard the track, caught a melody, and the rest is history! Shout out to my partner Short Rocc who did his thing on the second verse. "Rock out" is a term DJ Vader and I use when we do parties so it all made sense. MsiCandi: The first time I heard about you was probably back in 2008. I heard you were an artistʼs manager as well as an artist yourself. Are you still managing any artists? Ran: Iʼm an urban legend! (Laughs) I hear all kind of job descriptions associated with me. I actually own a production and artist development company. I donʼt actually manage performers; I work on making them better, more marketable artists. MsiCandi: I can tell music is something you are passionate about. When were you first introduced to music? Ran: Birth! Maybe before that! (Laughs) I come from a musical family so my love affair was inevitable. MsiCandi: You also have a studio. Are you still running your studio to help local artist create quality music? Ran: Yes, I am. Quiet Noise Studio has been servicing the Cincinnati music scene for 10 years and counting. We're the Best!! MsiCandi: Iʼve heard you have a radio show. Are you my competition? (Laughs) Just kidding. Tell me more about your show. How long have you been doing it? Whatʼs the concept?
Artist, Producer, Radio Personality, and lots more Ran: Paper Cutz the Album coming soon!! My partner Short Rocc and I have been hard at work making MUSIC. "Rock Out" is the first single, but it in no way accurately reflects just how dope this album will be. Weʼve got MUSIC!! Other than that, just preparing to run for president…. MsiCandi: Make sure you keep us in the loop with everything you have going on. Now before I let you go, I canʼt let you off the hook without putting you on the “iCandi hot seat”. I hope you are ready... Ran: Never have to ask me that..;D #1 Whatʼs your proudest moment in your life (so far)? Birth of my son. Iʼm a father – homework, little league, lectures, etc. I love it!! I love him!! What up Deuce!! #2 What is your guilty pleasure Disney movie? Dumbo.. When I see an elephant fly… That song was crazy #3 What is the sexiest part of a member of the opposite sex? I canʼt alienate any part.. Love them all the same. I want a package and wonʼt settle for less! Boy, do I love every part of a woman… #4 Finish the sentence “I have lost my respect for........... Them…
Ran: My lil' show is no competition for the ICandi conglomerate! (Laughs) Seriously though, WTFU Radio is the brainchild of DJ Vader and me. We celebrate our one year anniversary in May. Our format is whatever we feel like doing!! But, it works. Our podcast has been ranked as high as the #4 hip-hop podcast in the world. Not bad for two guys from the home of First 48! MsiCandi: Whatʼs next for Ran? What upcoming projects do you have going on?
#5 If someone wrote a book about your life, what would they title it? The Great Quest for Promise Fulfilled #6 Would you rather be a billionaire or have true love?
True love if sheʼs a billionaire…

Brotha Insight’s “The Conscious Corner” How many of you knew that March is “Womenʼs History Month”? If I was a betting man I would say not many. Letʼs make it a point to remember and recognize our great women. This month I want to share a pledge a friend of mine wrote. Brothas, if we truly love and respect our women the way we should, then this pledge should be easy for you to commit to. Sistas, you can use this as well. Give it to your sons and any man you may become involved with. We give thanks and honor to our good brotha FX for writing this: ✴I will have integrity in all dealings with my Black sistas and not lie nor hide anything. ✴I will not physically abuse any sista in any way. I will also not mentally or emotionally abuse my Black woman. ✴I will respect and revere Black womanhood and never tear down nor call sistas a “bitch”, “ho” or any vulgar and disrespectful name. ✴I will value the child or children of my Black women and treat them with love, respect, nurturing and be a positive role model for them. ✴I will not brutally or harshly correct my Black woman and disrespect her intelligence in public or in private. If she needs it, I will be a comforting and patient teacher and/or healer. ✴I will do everything I need to enhance and improve the spiritual, physical and mental health of me and my Black woman. ✴I will not run from the responsibilities of raising OUR child or children if my Black woman becomes pregnant by me. ✴I will protect Black women from the evils of this world. I AM NOT a knight in shining armor, I am the powerful Afrikan King and I will smash and burn anybody and anything that threatens the life of my Black woman. However, I will use discretion and reasoning to secure my Black woman and not put her in any danger. ✴I will not hide my feelings from my Black woman. I will communicate properly and intelligibly in order to bring about an understanding between us. A healthy expression of emotion is not a sign of weakness in a man.
✴I will not undermine or underestimate the worth and essence of the Black woman. I will eradicate any and all forms of gender superiority and discrimination within me. Thus, I will listen to my Black woman when she has something to say and I will not have any problem at all with my (or any) Black woman taking the lead in whatever she needs to take the lead in. ✴I will not be manipulative towards Black women. As a “conscious” brotha, I will not use knowledge as a
humility are NOT signs of weakness in a man. ✴I will do my very best to satisfy my Black woman sexually. I will learn what I need to learn to pleasure her mind, body, and soul through sex and/ or intimacy. If I donʼt know how, I will learn and be patient as my Black woman will teach me. I hope this pledge was helpful. Letʼs apply it to our lives.
PEACE & BLESSINGS. BROTHA INSIGHT.
“How many of you knew that March is “Women’s History Month” In This article Brotha Insight introduces us to “The Women’s Pledge game to have sex with sistas, nor will I manipulate sistas in any act of deceit or harmful way for my own carnal gratification. ✴I am NOT a playa, mack or pimp. These things, especially a pimp, are as much a disrespect of myself as a Black man as well as disrespectful towards my Black Woman. ✴I will be responsible and admit my negativity or when I am wrong. If I screw up, Iʼll admit it and I will not avoid critique and/or correction from my Black woman. Apologies and

MU S I C RE V I E W S w i t h J . a nto i nne Jennifer Hudson - I Remember Me J Records -2011
Jennifer Hudson captivated some of America during the third season of American Idol and then the rest of America with the movie Dreamgirls. After receiving an Oscar for her Dreamgirls role but releasing a mediocre debut album, she's out to prove that she can sing. That's never been debatable, but her sophomore album just might take away from her voice. It's not a "bad" album per se, but there are some hiccups. Songs like "No One Gonna Love You" and "Believe" don't need to sound like they're being screamed, and "I Got This" might be filler. A lot of people may have issues with this album only having ten songs and having a "boring" feel, but core fans should still be excited. Chris Brown - F.A.M.E
Faith Evans - Something About Faith

Entertainment One Music - 2010
Given the success of singles like "Run It!", "Yo (Excuse Me Miss)", "Deuces", and "Forever", most people tend to think that Chris Brown is only good for radio-friendly songs. That might be true, but the boy can sing and has no problems doing so. Fans that have stuck with Chris Brown through all the drama he's been through will be fans of this album, and it actually might be a stepping stone back into the real limelight. "Beautiful People" is a solid song, as is "I'll Be Right Here" and "Up to You". Even "Sweetheart" can be a catchy tune for people to really take another look at Chris Brown as a real artist. This is a pretty decent album for the club heads and for the romantics. (4 Stars)(B+)
After being away from the music industry for the better part of five years, Faith has returned with a highly-anticipated album. Of course, die-hard fans have waited and for good reason; this CD isn't a far cry from her earlier works but still has enough "newness" for new fans to take notice. The first single "Way You Move" was a nice head-bobbing tune, but it's the ballads that Faith really shines on. "Real Things" is just that, "Baby Lay" is awesome, "Right Here", the current single, has a nice rhythm and sound to it, and "Gone Already" has a nice piano riff and Faith's sinewy vocals to keep it afloat. Also worth mentioning is "Troubled World" featuring a nice contralto from Jessica Reedy of BET's Sunday Best fame. A well-rounded album from Faith. (4.25 Stars)(A)

Donnell Jones hasn't really been a major name in music (even with his production credits) since 2000's Where I Wanna Be Donnell Jones - Journey of A Gemini album, but one thing he has that 98% of A well-rounded CD that keeps it REAL with you at others has is consistency. “iCandi Lady” of the Month Chrystiana Carter
I just couldn’t continue to have “iCandi Ladies of the month” and not hit up the Candi Ladi” herself. Chrystiana has been making some serious noise and is one of the hottest models to come out of Cincinnati. Check out this interview to see what’s going on in her “Candiland”.
“
MsiCandi: Diiiiiiiivvaaaaaa! What’s happening! I know you are a busy, busy lady but I do want to thank you for taking the time out and giving us this interview. The fun thing about doing this interview is I kind of watched you grow up. For those that don’t know we attended the same high school. I was in a couple grades higher (there I go telling my age!!). So with us actually knowing each other let’s start with Wyoming High. What’s one of your best memories about Wyoming? Chrystiana: First off let me say thank you for wanting to interview me. You've always shown me love even when I was just a young tyke lol. I don't know how but I used to get away with "murder" there. (laughs) I left school when I wanted to. Everyone I hung out with was older than me and I do miss cheerleading. However, I did get an exceptional education there (laughs) MsiCandi: Moving on to modeling. At what age did you get into modeling? Chrystiana: I always had those family members that threw me into things like that when I was younger, but it wasn't until my first runway show at 18 that I really found my passion for it. MsiCandi: What do you remember most about your first runway experience? Chrystiana: It was exhilarating. I blew people away because I'm only 5'3. It’s by far one of my most favorite and memorable experiences. MsiCandi: What type of modeling is your favorite aspect of the career (Runway, Catalog, Commercial)? Chrystiana: Runway and Print gives me two different types of feelings. Runway gives me the "right then and there" rush while print gives me the opportunity to express thoughts and/ or ideas that can be everlasting in a photograph. Lingerie and swim suit modeling let me express how I feel about MY OWN sex appeal. I'm so petite and a lot of people think it’s by choice. I can eat you out of house and home. Just because I'm not Buffie the Body doesn't mean I should be any less confident in the skin I'M IN. MsiCandi: Tell me a little about your modeling company. What are your goals with this company?
Chrystiana: As far as Life & Royalty (LRMI) I started it at 18 so I was not really ready for what I wanted and needed to do with it. I am not someone who says I own something when I don't. I do legally own LRMI but I chose to step aside from it so I could use my own personal business/modeling experiences to run it a lot better than I was. As I matured, the idea I had for it then and now has changed. When the time is right it will be back and my goals for it will be evident. :-) MsiCandi: I you could give young teenaged aspiring models one piece of advice what would it be? Chrystiana: Never settle for less, especially in this industry. It is so easy to get "caught up" if you don't have the support you need. Reach for the stars and don't let anyone tell you that you can't do it. MsiCandi: This goes to show how much people like drama; I was asked by some “random” how I felt about you being the “Candi Ladi”. I told them you could be the “Candi Queen” and I’d still love ya. How do you deal with haters and negativity in the industry? Chrystiana: Let me start by saying with anything you do you want to brand it. The Candi Ladi thing for me was by accident. I would almost ALWAYS have suckers in the club so it became a recognizable thing. You are someone I've always looked up to so those people that have no clue can kick pop rocks. As far as haters, me and my home girl Majesty say "they are just negative people bringing negative energy into the air." I have no problem with FACTS and even constructive criticism, everything else is irrelevant ;-). God is the only one that can stop me. MsiCandi: What upcoming projects can we expect from Chrystiana? Chrystiana: I never like to give too much away in case things fall through. But let's just say if these propositions that are being brought to me pan out, the so called "haters" will have something to be MAD about. To see more of Chrystiana go to www.Modelmayhem.com/Chrys
Candi Kids
We have added a new section to the iCandi E-Newsletter where we highlight our youth. Lo Has Entered “The Terrible Twos” and it’s a daily roller coaster ride
Feb 16, 2011 The other day I was getting some editing in while Lo decided to go “boo boo” in her pull-up (yeah we are still working on this potty training thing). I started to smell it and went to her and found her playing in her poop, smearing it all on the walls. “UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGH Really Lo? Really??!!” As I think about it now, yeah itʼs a little funny #2 but during that exact moment I was completely Robin Brice Robin is the daughter of iCandi supporter Tawanda. She’s grossed out. Needless to say I had a full hour of a senior in high school with a GPA of 3.8. Robin has been scrubbing London and her room down. I knew nominated for several scholarships, and she is a student she would be something else as a toddler but no ambassador, on the honor society, brain cakes club and one warned me about this......... engineer president. She also spends some of her free time working part time at McDondalds and volunteering for multiple sclerosis and march of dimes. YOU GO GIRL!!

Au Natural By Lashanna Dipiano There is a movement that is taking place among black women across the globe. Black women from all social economic statuses are making the choice to embrace the natural texture of their hair, whether it is kinky, curly, or coiled. That’s right, black women are lebng go of the European status quo that only straight hair is beauGful. Instead, Black women are making a conscious choice to accept what God has given them. The choice to go natural is not easy for most women, as we have been taught that our hair is not socially acceptable or beauGful. Sadly, we have been trained to conform rather than accept what is authenGc and beauGful. For years black women have chosen to relax, texturize, and weave in their hair instead of wearing their hair in its natural state. I am sure that at some point we have all said or heard a black woman say, “my natural hair is too hard to deal with” or “there is no way I will stop gebng perms” or “natural hair is not professional”. These senGments are widespread in the black community and have groomed generaGons of black women to loath their natural beauty in place of social acceptance. Many black women are beginning to realize that embracing their natural tresses is not only a step in the right direcGon of self love and acceptance, but also a healthier choice for their hair and bodies. Many of the chemicals in relaxers, shampoos, condiGoners and skin care products are not healthy for the hair and are harmful to the body in general. Unfortunately, black
women have not been educated about the dangers of these chemicals and have been pubng them directly on their scalp and skin for centuries. Here are some of the chemicals that are acGve ingredients most commonly found in hair products:
•
Mineral oil and PetrolatumMineral oil is a derivative of crude oil (petroleum) that is used industrially as a cutting fluid and lubricating oil. This commonly used petroleum ingredient coats the skin and hair just like plastic wrap. The skin's natural barrier is disrupted as this plastic coating inhibits its ability to breathe and absorb the Natural Moisture Factor (moisture and nutrition). Petrolatum - A petroleum-based grease that is used industrially as a grease component. Petrolatum exhibits many of the same potentially harmful properties as mineral oil. Honestly, this stuff belongs in your engine, not on your hair.
•
PEG-PEG's are often used in caustic spray on oven cleaners and yet are found in many personal care products. PEG's contribute to stripping the Natural Moisture Factor, leaving the immune system vulnerable. They are also potentially carcinogenic.
•
PROPYLENE GLYCOL (PG) -As a "surfactant" or wetting agent and solvent, this ingredient is actually the active component in antifreeze. There is no difference between the
PG used in industry and the PG used in personal care products
•
SODIUM LAURYL SUFATE (SLS) & SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE (SLES): SLS is used in testing labs as the standard ingredient to irritate skin. Used as detergents and surfactants, these closely related compounds are found in car wash soaps, garage floor cleaners and engine degreasers.
Although this list is not exhaustive, it is a symbol of the lack of education in the black community. Fortunately, there is a wealth of information available to black women about the beauty and health of their natural hair. Sites such as curlynikki.com and nappturality.com serve as information hubs and support for women embarking on their natural journey.

The Chance She Took Written By Kole Black
Chapter1: Chance dashed down the last flight of stairs in the hotel with intense fear, the front of his clothes covered with blood, leaving crimson handprints smeared all along the wall and banister behind him. As he reached the bottom of the dimly lit stairwell, he quickly headed toward the back entrance and scrambled out of the huge, rusty steel door marked emergency exit. Chance could hardly catch his breath, so he stopped a moment and kneeled forward with sweat pouring from his face. He struggled to figure out what to do, where to go, who to call and how he got caught up in such a helluva’ mess. As the sound of approaching sirens grew closer, Chance dipped back to the car, jumped in and pulled out of the dark parking garage. Speeding down a dark back alley, disappearing completely into the night, he was in complete shock. Chance. It’s a funny word, a strange word, and sometimes it’s even a little bit scary. It can bring opportunity, adventure and even an element mystery. Lady-Bird used to tell me “Rayqelle what you don’t know, can hurt you worse than what you think you know.” Ladybird was my mama; her real name was Brenda Dean but everybody called her Lady-Bird. She was an alcoholic and often spoke in riddles, so I didn’t know what she meant at the time, but as it turned out, she was right. Ladybird was right about a lot of things, which was kind of funny since Ladybird also used to tell me that I would never end up being nothin’ but a lil’ ho’ or drug addict, a terrible thing to say to a little girl, but that’s how she was. I didn’t even know what a ho’ was (but, I learned). I was born on the southside of Chicago, to Brenda ”Ladybird” Dean and John Mitchell, he died when I was five years old. About a year later Ladybird married Jimmy Davis, a police officer who lived in Justice, Illinois, about twenty minutes from the southside. Then she got pregnant with Lynn about a year later, I was the oldest. Well, me and my twin brother Johnny, who was killed by a hit and run driver when we were on our way home from school in the sixth grade. Ladybird never really got over it; she just tried to numb the pain with pills and alcohol. Officer Davis said, the day lil’ Johnny died that Ladybird went with him. They just didn’t bury her. Even though she still had me, Letah and Lynn, she had pretty much given up on life. I spent most of my teenage years breakin’ just about every law I could think of, which was kinda’ funny seeing as how my stepfather was a cop. I wanted to be good, but once I saw how being bad got me so much more attention; there was no turning back! I was always doin’ things that I knew I had no business doin’, always takin’ chances that most girls would never take. I guess hopin’ that one day maybe my stepfather might see how desperate I was for his attention. Though Officer Davis wasn’t our real father, he was all we had. But it became clear that he really didn’t have much interest in us. He worked really hard for the police department, so he wasn’t home much and Officer Davis believed that a woman’s place was in the home, so Lady-Bird stayed at home to take care of us, but after my brother died Lady-Bird started drinking a lot and was always in her own world, which pretty much left me and Letah take care of the house. This also included takin’ care of my little sister Lynn, who was born with congenital heart disease, so she stayed sick a lot. Most of the time my stepfather would come home from work after a 12 or 14 hour shift, to find Ladybird passed out in the living room. Usually holdin’ an empty bottle of vodka. He would just walk past her shakin’ his head, but they never once argued, to be honest after Lynn was born they barely even spoke. Really, Davis rarely spoke to any of us at all. He slept upstairs in the attic, we slept on the second floor and Ladybird would sleep down stairs in the living room, on the couch. She drank constantly to escape her demons; she said that it gave her comfort. Well, it might have given her comfort, but it made the rest of our lives a livin’ hell! When she drank, it made her really mean! When Ladybird was younger she use to sing. She even put out a record. My grandma said that she just about came out the womb singing. That’s how she got the name Ladybird. But she gave up singing when she got pregnant with me and my twin brother. Which made her really bitter and she always managed to take out her bitterness on me. She never hugged me or showed me any kind of real affection and when nobody was around, sometimes she would slap me and tell me how much she hated me and how I ruined her life. She use to also say how ugly I was and how much I looked just like my black ass daddy. Ladybird did a lot of crazy shit! She used to tell me that I killed her baby (my twin brother), and that it was my fault he got ran over and that it shoulda’ been me that died instead of him. Later, as I started getting older she used to tell me that I would never be anything but a ho’, because I would only play with boys. Or maybe she used to say that because she saw so much of her in me and that was the way she really felt about herself.
The Chance
Series Being that I’m a big fan of novels, I wanted to bring that to the e-newsletter in some way. So I approached my good friend (Author) Kole Black to see if he would share some of his work with my supporters. Once a month, he’s going to give us piece by piece of his novel “The Chance She Took”. I hope you are ready for passion, excitement, and lots of drama as we explore the writing on Mr. Kole Black ~MsiCandi~ If you want to purchase the novel yourself or you would like more info about his other books go to http://www.KoleBlackBooks.com
ICANDILICIOUS FAB Keisha Knight Pulliam We all know her as “Rudy Huxtable”! I just had to show her some love for always keeping it classy. She knows how to be sexy yet still a very classy woman. Some of the newbies in the game should definitely take note.
“Printed Leggings” Fashion With RED This month's topic is printed leggings, since they are hot for now. Let's start with the doʼs of printed leggings: Ladies, please pair them with a solid top. Your legs are already doing something; remember less is more. Pictured is an example of a do...take note of the basic top, printed leggings, and heels...classy and trendy at the same time.
Now let's talk about the donʼts: Please do not mix patterns because it looks a hot mess, even if the colors are the same. Just say no and stop yourself. As you can see, this is not a good look...remember less is more; if you have to question it, then just say no!
