Superfood Spotlight: Citrus The Super Food for the month of January is citrus fruits. This family includes oranges, grapefruit, lemons, limes, tangerines and pomelos. These fruits have a blend of vitamin C, potassium, fiber and B vitamins to help us stay happy and healthy. Vitamin C and flavonoids found in these fruits are powerful antioxidants that fights free radical damage to delay aging and protect against cancers. Including these fruits in your diet can also boost your immune system and help heal wounds. Citrus fruits can also help iron become easier absorbed in the body when eaten with an iron-containing food. Incorporate citrus fruits into meals to sweeten up and add tang to almost any dish, including salads, fish and meat, desserts or even a refreshing beverage. Provided by: Sam Zweifel, Dietetic Intern
