Did You Know? Did you know the HCA Healthcare Ethics and Compliance Program is intended to accomplish two goals? 1. To ensure that everyone associated with HCA reflects our Mission and Values, and the standards set forth in our Code of Conduct. Together, these ensure we provide compassionate, efficient, quality, patient-focused healthcare at all times. 2. To ensure legal compliance. There are a lot of legal compliance obligations in healthcare. This goal means we focus on attaining the first goal of our Ethics and Compliance program while meeting the details of our legal compliance obligations. For information contact Jennifer Cross at Jennifer.Cross@ hcahealthcare.com or Karen Siverly at Karen.Siverly@ hcahealthcare.com your Co-Ethics and Compliance Officers.

Breast Cancer Clinical Research Program Medical Oncologist Stephanie Graff, MD is breaking new ground for breast cancer patients. With her leadership, the IMPassion130 clinical trial conducted at Sarah Cannon Cancer Center at RMC, among other sites across the country, led to FDA approval of a new drug for metastatic breast cancer. Why is this such a big development? Metastatic breast cancer is also known as advanced or stage IV breast cancer, meaning it has spread beyond the breast to other parts of the body. The common places for breast cancer to spread are the bones, lungs, liver, and brain. This is the first targeted agent approved for the treatment of triple negative breast cancer and the study showed patients treated with the new drug Atezeolizumab had a significant improvement in overall survival.

This is the first FDA approval of a breast cancer drug that Dr. Graff and her team at Sarah Cannon helped develop. researchmedicalcenter.com/service/cancer-care

Above All Else, We Are Committed to the Care and Improvement of Human Life Giving each patient and their family the best patient experience is a top priority at every Research entity. This means every patient, every time and every touch. Always. Not Sometimes, Not Usually. Always. When patients take the time to let us know they had a great experience, we’ll share.

All Staff/Security “Wonderful staff, very nice and caring. Excellent security.” Surgery “I was checked in by some great ladies. Then preceded to get ready for my surgery. They took very good care of me and made me feel very comfortable.” Research Psychiatric Center ‘‘5 stars for their service. They do everything they can to help each patient through the crisis that took them there. The PHP staff was amazing. Their goal is to help you live, not just survive” All Staff “Research Medical Center is always well organized and pleasant.” Intensive Care Unit/5th Floor/All Satff “My sister was in the care of this facility starting in ICU and ending on the 5th floor. Also in dialysis. Everyone was great and it was an emotional time and there were those that went above and beyond . . . the staff of Drs, nurses and even nutrition staff were beyond exceptional . Thank you is not enough to begin to express how much I & my family appreciate what you. I would definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for exceptional care.”

Healthy Habits Superfood Spotlight: Avocados The May Superfood of the Month is avocados. Avocados are fruits (yes, despite the lack of sweetness) native to Mexico and Central America and have long been a staple of the Latin American diet. Recently avocados have boomed in popularity across the globe—avocado use in the United States alone has quadrupled over the past decade—and it is not hard to see why. Avocados offer vitamins, minerals, fiber, and heart-healthy fats that help boost absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. While guacamole is the most common avocado dish, avocados can be used in place of butter in baking recipes to reduce cholesterol and “bad” fats. Visit the Superfood table outside of the cafeteria this month for more information and a tasty avocadomango salsa recipe! Provided by: Courtney Schneider,
