Hike and explore the outstanding splendours of a mountain world: a mountain guide from the renowned alpine school, Alpin Schule Innsbruck (ASI) is waiting for you. And all free of charge with the Innsbruck Mountain Hiking Programme. No other city in the world can offer a similar free hiking programme in the midst of such a unique mountain wonderland. The aim of this brochure is to provide you with further information about the multitude of sports, leisure, health and wellness activities on offer and in particular those suitable for families with children and elderly people. Free Mountain Hiking Programme Innsbruck 28 May – 26 October 2012 MOUNTAIN HIKES Dates: daily 28 May – 30 September, 1–26 October Mon.–Fri., Departure/meeting point: 9.00 am, Congress Innsbruck and local tourist office (see centre section) INNSBRUCK PROGRAMME: • Mountain hikes with approved guide from the Alpin Schule Innsbruck (ASI) • Hiking bus • Tour book • A limited number of hiking boots and backpacks are available. Hiking medals: Bronze: 1 hike, Silver: 3 hikes Gold: 10 hikes, Gold with crystal: 20 hikes Hiking medals for senior citizens (aged 60 years and over): Bronze: 1 hike, Silver: 3 hikes Gold: 8 hikes, Gold with crystal: 12 hikes Participation: • Free of charge for guests holding a CLUB INNSBRUCK MEMBER CARD • 1,220 km of hiking paths • Go-ahead regardless of weather conditions • Hiking tours lasting between 3 and 4 hours • Suitable for elderly people and children from the age of 8 • Good physical fitness required • No previous knowledge of mountaineering necessary • Outdoor clothing (hiking boots, anorak, rain-wear) • Sun protection, food and an adequate supply of drinks Information and booking: local tourist office (see centre section) Booking only required for groups of 15 people or more SUNRISE WALK Dates: every Friday, 15 June – 21 September Services: Early bird hikes on the Rangger Köpfl for an impressive light spectacle as the sun rises to reveal a breathtaking view of the city and the Inn valley. LANTERN HIKE WITH MUSIC Dates: every Tuesday, 19 June – 25 September Services: free of charge (except food and drinks); romantic guided lantern hike to a mountain hut and an evening with music. The Joys of Nature – Hiking Paths ADLERWEG (EAGLE TRAIL) Sweeping like an eagle, this unique hiking trail stretches east-west between St. Johann and the Arlberg region in 31 stages over a distance of 280 km. Enjoy an intense experience of nature and culture on reflective walks through highly diverse countryside – Tyrolean history and tradition are ever present. Three stages through the area around Innsbruck and the Sellrain Valley. It is mainly alpine in character and is still in perfect harmony with centuries of rural farming tradition. This nature reserve combines the thrill of impressive scenery set in almost untouched natural countryside, with a diverse array of rare fauna and flora. The holiday villages of Rum and Zirl make the ideal starting points for numerous walks and hikes in the Karwendel nature reserve. AXAMER LIZUM HIKING CIRCUIT A 3.5 km circular trail at the foot of the Kalkkögel peaks giving hiking enthu siasts experience of the Tyrolean countryside at close quarters and at alpine altitudes of 1,600 metres. Signs are placed along the path giving visitors interesting facts about the fascinating local fauna and flora. The hiking route is especially suitable for families and elderly people. The funicular railway, planned and designed by star architect, Zaha Hadid, sets international standards for modern architecture. Section 1 takes you to Hungerburg, and its strikingly individual stations (Congress, Löwenhaus, Alpenzoo, Hungerburg 868m). The panoramic cable car which covers section II, Seegrube (1,905 m) and section III Hafelekar (2,256 m) takes you up into high alpine territory. Travel from the town centre to Innsbruck’s “top floor” in just 20 minutes. The Goetheweg trail, one of the most enchanting high-altitude mountain hikes in the greater Innsbruck area and the Karwendel Alpine Park nature reserve, offer a huge number of route variations. From the Hafelekar mountain station (2,256 m) the path leads eastwards on a very good high-altitude track to the Hafelekarspitze peak. Then it takes you across gentle, open alpine meadows and plantations of mountain pines to the Mandlscharte before continuing over Alpine, partly secured terrain, to the cosy Pfeishütte mountain hut (1,922 m). Marginal changes in altitude, breathtaking views guaranteed. Continues to the Hallerangerhaus. Section of the Adlerweg (Eagle Trail). Walking time: 4 hours. Plenty of routes from the Pfeishütte (overnight stays possible) including one that leads to the Mösl Alm (1,250 m); walking time: approx. 2 hours. Approx. 2½ hours from the Pfeishütte, you can also follow the route via the Kreuzjöchl peak to the Vintl-Alm (not staffed) at 1,567 m and on to the Rumer Alm (1,243 m). From there continue via the Enzianhütte hut (1,041 m) to Rum in approx. 1½ hours. Leaving Zirl, hike through the ruggedly picturesque Ehnbach gorge to the refreshment hut at Brunntal in the Zirler Mahdern, and from there to the Magdeburger hut (1,637 m). A steel cable enables you to ascend safely to Solsteinhaus (1,806 m). Hiking time: approx. 5½ hours. It is essential that you are sure-footed and do not suffer from vertigo. Different ways of reaching the summit and descending into the valley make this high altitude hike a uniquely individual experience. Anyone who would like to save themselves the arduous climb can take the Muttereralm cable car or use the chairlift to Birgitzköpfl. It also passes Innsbruck and on through the holiday villages of Völs, Kematen and Unterperfuss, before heading west towards Arlberg. Coming from Hall, the St James’ Way runs to Rum pass Thaur and across Römerpark and the Kalvarienberg mountain to the St James’ Cathedral in Innsbruck. Alpine roses blossom above 1,500 m from mid-June to the end of July. From the Lüsener Fernerkogel (3,298 m) there are tremendous views of the Stubai Alps’ three thousand-metre-high peak. From here the Alpenrosensteig (Alpine Rose Path) continues up to the Rangger Köpfl summit (1,939 m) or across to the Krimpenbach mountain hut (1,918 m). The ascent on the Rosskogel (2,649 m) is a challenge even for those with mountain experience. Magnificent views of Innsbruck and the Inn valley. Starting point for the Sellrain Valley mountain path to St. Sigmund – Haggen, and for the Peter-Anich mountain track heading west to Rietz and the Peter-Anich hut. There are benches to rest at the prettiest viewing points. Ascent and descent are also possible to and from all locations between Zimbachalm and Oberperfuss. SPECKBACHERWEG TRAIL The Speckbacherweg trail starts and finishes in Tulfes, running throughout along the edge of the lower forest and, in the course of its 16 km, passing all the villages from Rinn to Ellbögen. The Speckbacherweg cuts through the entire south-eastern highlands. There are countless benches and resting places with glorious views offering an invitation to linger. Length: 16 km, Time: 4 hrs. Degree of difficulty: easy STUBAI GLACIER Just under an hour’s drive from Innsbruck ... modern cable cars whisk visitors up into the realm of the “three-thousanders” in barely 35 minutes. Information: Tourist Office Gries im Sellrain (see centre section) NATURE AND GLACIER TRAIL Praxmar is the point of departure for this 2.5 km long path. Display boards along the first section of the trail give information about the flora and fauna of the Sellrain Valley. The second section from Lüsens to Fernerboden gives a fascinating insight into the development of the glacier up to the present day. A natural observation platform guarantees a magnificent view of the surrounding mountain landscape. Information: Tourist Office Gries im Sellrain (see centre section) OBERPERFER GEISTERWANDERWEG – GHOST TRAIL IN OBERPERFUSS A legendary tour that leads through the middle of the woods to the reservoir. Jump on the eight-seater gondola to Stiglreith and ride comfortably up to 1,360 m. This is where you meet the Baumbarts, who become your irresistible hiking companions. The Baumbarts are actually pine trunks that have been turned upside down, hammered into the ground and then had a face carved into each one. Push a button and they talk too – telling interesting and exciting tales. Trail length approx. 1.6 km, 21 stations, ending at the reservoir. It vividly describes 15 stations along the path with the the flora and fauna’s important ecological functions, the path’s geology, climatic and foehn wind phenomena and its different soils; it also documents the history of human settlement on the Patscherkofel mountain. Departing from the Drei Seen mountain lift station (2,420 m), a marked trail leads to the start (approx. 20 min.).
