5 bright stars for our 80th anniversary "Tradition is not keeping the ashes, but to pass along the fire." We find this quote by Thomas Morus very suitable for our very special anniversary. The Alpen Wellness Resort Hochfirst celebrates its 80th birthday in 2014. In recognition of our accomplishments the 5-star commission of the Professional Association for the Hotel Industry in the Chamber of Commerce reclassified Hochfirst’s as a 5-star hotel in 2014. It is both an honor and a challenge. These five stars represent Hochfirst’s outstanding service, luxurious ambiance, gourmet cuisine, as well as flawless living and a 1,500-m2 large spa and relax facility. Briefly: It stands for the highest level of hospitality – just like our namesake peak at the end of the valley rises above with its 3,403 meter. It was in 1934 that our great grandfather Valentin Gstrein built the Hochfirst in Obergurgl and laid the foundation for one of the most legendary hotels in Ötztal. His passion has been passed along until today, with already the 3rd and 4th generation in charge.

All of us share this passion – the passion to make your holiday the most beautiful days of the year – and never cease to improve. Franz and Hanni Gstrein made the Hochfirst Hotel into a top address in Ötztal with their tireless and visionary committment. In 1993 they passed the torch to their daughter Daniela and son-in-law Karl.

teriors w room in 1993 ne Valentin Gstrein assigned planning of the "Hochfirst" to the widely known architect Franz Baumann. The Hotel - Pension opened its doors in 1934. Many controversial discussions about the spectacular structure followed over the years.

In 1993, Daniela and Karl Fender would be the third generation of the family to take over running the hotel. With the change of hands followed a major modernization of the entire hotel. Starting with the rooms and the hotel lobby and continuing with conference rooms the "Hochfirst" was soon shining with new splendor.

Already in 1965 Franz and Hanni Gstrein expanded the Hotel to impressive 50 beds. The legendary "RENDEZVOUS BAR" opened the same year. A never-ending stream of stars like Udo Jürgens, the Jacob Sisters, Billy Mo and many more visited here and made Obergurgl into the hotspot of ens g the Alps that it still is today. r ü J o d

In 1969 the Hochfirst host yet again proved their dedication to innovatin and vison. The rooms were remodeled and the bed capacity was increased. The new conference room was a forerunner of a new era. The highlight was, however, the opening of the new hotel swimming pool – definatley a rarity in Tyrol at the time.

2004 In 2004 the spa facility was magnificently expanded. The result of the remodeling and further additions was a grandiose, 1,500-m2 large indoor Alpine spa facility. Highlight of this reconstruction was the new outdoor pool, where guests can enjoy the crisp winter landscape immerged in warm water. Indeed a unique experience in Obergurgl.

In 2008 the four star hotel added the elevating "Superior" label. In 2009 the class of the hotel was accentuated with the new official partnership with Porsche. The fireplace corner and the conservatory was remodeled and a wine cellar with degustation room was added. 2008 to 2013: Reconstruction and modernization of almost all rooms and suites. 2012: Addition of the "Tyrolean sauna lodge" and the dressed Swiss stone pine sauna. 2013: Addition of the "Hochfirst Lounge", Gourmet & Panorama parlors.
