CHAMBER’S PROJECTS

An innovative program to promote international expansion for Italian high potential startups

STARTIT.Asia 2018 edition focused on Circular Economy, Green Economy, Smart City and Sustainability. “Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center aims to help the most promising startups to scale up internationally, and we believe that choosing the right focus is the first step to fully commit in the project. Circular Economy is surely the best pick for a right cause. We need young entrepreneurs who are committed to help the world for a better change to be fully supported.” says Vincenzo Antonetti, Head of International Network at Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center. The STARTIT.Asia initiative followed three main steps: (1) The competition officially started in March 2018 when the call-to-action was launched to all Italian startups involved in sustainability and circular economy and by April 2018, 5 finalists had the pleasure to be selected as best emerging startups for those focuses.

Felipe Hernandez Villa-Roel (Hexagro), Simone Mastrogiacomo (Veranu), Damiano Avellino (Orthoponics), Fabio Penzo (Floome), Tony Gherardelli and Vincenzo Antonetti (Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center), Mattia Nanetti (Wenda)

Hong Kong – June 2018 The second edition of STARTIT.asia, the innovative project launched in 2017 to promote promising Italian startups develop their business in Asia and born from the partnership between the General Consulate of Italy in Hong Kong, The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and Macao, People & Projects and I3P, Intesa Sanpaolo and Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Centre, scored a great success for the second year in a row. “This year has marked another big achievement for STARTIT.asia: we were able to scale up with more than 1500 people involved to reach a whole new exposure. The exposure to startups that P&P has, gave us the hint for the whole project and this exposure made us realize that supporting our incoming startups in Asia is something that we should see as a mission. We should feel the responsibility of giving back in a sense of circular economy. ” says Stefano Passarello, Director Corporate Services – North East Asia at People & Projects Ltd, part of Hawksford Group.

(2) On May 27th 2018, the 5 selected startups flew to Hong Kong for a fullimmersion week in the Hong Kong & Shenzhen business environment filled with B2B meetings, investor pitches and networking opportunities. The week started with two-day meetings and conferences at the Sino-Finnish Design Park in Shenzhen, a communication platform and cooperation vector established in November 2014. Then, back in Hong Kong, the finalists were able to talk with possible investors, have on-site visits with top companies, and meet with local partners for potential future collaborations. On June 1st, the STARTIT. asia jury panel, composed by Stefano Passarello, Director Corporate Services – North East Asia at P&P, Vincenzo Antonetti, Head of International Network at Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Center, Michael Wojcieszek, Programme Manager at Betatron Accelerator, Bill Barber, Innovation Manager

at Intesa Sanpaolo Innovation Centre and Carlo Gioja, Managing Director at Sinaxia Investments Ltd, awarded Mr. Mattia Nanetti, representing the startup Wenda, as the winner of the project. Wenda, which provides IoT solutions for food conservation traceability, helping food producers-importers, retailers and restaurant chains with decision support systems, making their supply chain visible, will be awarded with 6 months of incubation in Shenzhen and one year of complimentary business and administrative assistance to set-up its business in Hong Kong. “Investing in young and fresh ideas is surely the best way to fully support the development of our country, the Hong Kong community and foster the already strong relationship between Hong Kong, Macao and Italy ”, reveals Luca Cico, President of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and Macao. The other 4 selected startups also were congratulated and will get assistance from the Chamber and P&P in their expansion to Asia. • Floome: an innovative device that, after plugged into the mobile, allows to detect the alcohol level in the blood by simply breathing into it; • Hexagro: modular and decentralized indoor farming systems that aims to allow everyone to have access to healthy food anywhere; • Orthoponics: building green walls combining hydroponics technology with IoT and robotics, so have greener and more productive cities; • Veranu: iinnovative solution with a high added value for the flooring 2.0 that converts, by piezoelectric effect, the kinetic energy of footsteps into clean electric energy. Creating the opportunity for matching offer and demand has always been the leitmotif of STARTIT.asia, which is now aiming to improve even further for the 2019 edition.

Hong Kong - May 2018

ASIAN RETAIL ARENA How to bring innovation into retail industry?

In a fast-pace world, innovation is key to survival, and retailers have realized it, but yet not coped with the speed of the instant generations of consumers. In order to understand the state-of-the-art of the retail industry, key players across sectors gathered to bring innovation through diversity. A unique platform bringing together experts with different backgrounds, but all working in or around retail, shared their insights to promote a fruitful and multi-perspectival discussion. On 17th May 2018, the conference room at the 29th floor of the One Chinachem Central, was transformed into the Asian Retail Arena and welcomed a full room of key players and disruptors in the retail industry. The event was an opportunity to shed light on the changes

and transformation that have been forging the contemporary retail landscape. That’s why the name ‘arena’, a Latin word, borrowed to indicate a place for debate. Indeed, it was a moment for professionals working in the retail industry to engage in a fruitful discussion. The three topics selected for the 1st edition were: - From space to experience: what’s next for the physical store? - Luxury and equation?

the

- Travel retail shopping: a journey or a just destination?

a

The Asian Retail Arena was the result of the interaction among different stakeholders within the industry, and the format clearly reflected the intent of the diverse organizing

committee, which included Retail in Asia, People & Projects (P&P), and The Italian Chamber of Commerce. Here, a summary of the event. Anna Romagnoli, General Manager at The Italian Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong & Macao, welcomed the guests and introduced the President of The Italian Chamber Of Commerce for the opening remarks, Luca Cico, who pointed it out the remarkable success of this 1st edition, which will lead to a bigger scale event next year. Emcees of the event, the Chief Editor at Retail in Asia, Dr. Esterina Nervino and the Managing Partner at People & Projects (P&P), Stefano Passarello. The two Emcees, both fond of the topics diligently managed the agenda and engaged in the debate with moderators and speakers by bringing their perspectives into the table and stimulating the interaction with the audience.

PANEL DISCUSSION 3

Luxury And The Digital Equation?

Travel Retail Shopping: A Journey Or Just A Destination?

Luxury has always been defined by its properties of exclusivity, uniqueness, scarcity, high quality, and limited access. However, in the 21st century features appear diluted and luxury goods popularized. Among the factors which have contributed to it, digital transformation has played a role in extending the access to luxury goods. While there are still brands reluctant to sell their products online, big players such as Alibaba and Jd.com have launched exclusive e-commerce platforms to engage luxury brands and provide online avenues, which somehow reflect offline positioning. The second panel moderated by Marc Ardisson, Managing Director Asia at Feelunique, focused on the paradoxical relationship between luxury and digital. Marc introduced the panel by focusing on the concept of luxury and the actual meaning of digital as for both of them there is a lack of common definition in the contemporary age.

The panellists included both luxury brands and online players called to define what luxury is after the digital transformation and how it can be successfully communicated online. Among the speakers: Diego Dultzin Lacoste, Co-

Shopping has become a key element of the travel experience for many passengers, and as such, the provision of duty free and travel retail goods is a service as well as an important generator of revenues.

John Steere, President at MyMM; Vincenzo Troia, Country Manager at Yoox Asia Ltd; Maurizio De Gasperis, Managing Director at Shanghai Tang.

Marc closed the panel explaining his preference for digital because more flexible and easy to experiment. However, very hard to match with the conservative luxury brands which prefer communication channels easy to control.

The panellists provided their insights on travel retail from a quite different perspective, as usually travel retail is associated with airports, this was the occasion to understand a different concept.

However, together with the increasing demand and offer, issues such as price transparency, variety of products, poor customer experience emerge from the recent reports published about the development of travel retail.

Pamela, wrapping up the session highlighted the takeaways for travel retail and summarized them into: the need to brand a destination tailored to the demand of the new generation of travellers; payment platforms are key in securing sales; a multi-lingual and empathetic retail staff is fundamental to interact with customers from different cultures and backgrounds.

The moderator for this panel, Pamela Chong, Director and Customer Experience Leader at PwC Experience Centre in Hong Kong, introduced the panellists: Silvia Tagliaferri, Tourism Director at Fidenza Village, directly from Italy; Pietro Scognamiglio, Global Head

Stefano and Esterina closed the long afternoon and chose the word ‘inspiring’ to define it as it was a moment to stimulate a multi-perspectival discussion and take the opportunity to interact with the key players and disruptors in the retail industry among the speakers but also the audience.

Founder at OnTheList; Ernesto Miraglia, Regional Director Asia Pacific at Damiani Hong Kong Limited;

of Travel Retail at Kering Asia Pacific Limited; Ivano Poma, CEO at Retail Outlet Management Ltd.; Francois Chabaudie, Founder & CEO at Neoma Ltd.

FOCUS FROM OUR MEMBERS S A N L O R E N Z O YAC H T S

THE 60TH ANNIVERSARY OF SANLORENZO, A NAUTICAL ATELIER SINCE 1958 During the press conference held yesterday at the headquarters of the Sanlorenzo Superyacht division in La Spezia, the company presented economic data and future investments in plants, development and research, also unveiling the projects of the new SL102 and SX72 yachts, whose official launch will take place on the occasion of Cannes yachting festival 2018

THE SANLORENZO ASYMMETRIC SL102 Among the main shipyards in the world specializing in the production of yachts and superyachts, Sanlorenzo returns to the international scene with a bold and innovative project. The idea of creating an asymmetrical yacht stems from a well-defined design idea that is rooted in the company’s DNA and in its intrinsic capacity to

redesign the interior of a boat, pushing its horizons further and further, while expanding the boundaries of nautical design each time. With the aim of obtaining greater usability of the interior spaces and better communication with the exterior, the SL102 rethinks the well-established layout of a yacht, only keeping the deck on the starboard side and eliminating the port side one, which is carried on the roof of the structure, allowing through this asymmetrical configuration, never tried before, to recover about 10 square

meters of area to benefit the interior. Thanks to the desire to think differently, to dare to step outside of traditional customs, the company thus again has proven its aptitude for working on the concept of space, molding it at will every time, to give life to ideas pieced together by customers’ wishes.

X72: SANLORENZO PRESENTS THE SECOND MODEL OF THE “SX” LINE

TURNOVER AND INVESTMENTS Leading shipyard in the nautical sector, Sanlorenzo has been experiencing starting from 2005, thanks to the management of Massimo Perotti, Chairman and CEO, an extraordinary growth, raising its turnover from € 40 million in 2005 to 300 million in 2017, while retaining its total vocation for the complete customization of products. In 60 years, Sanlorenzo has in fact built over 750 yachts, each one different from the other because it is adapted to the specific requests of the client.

Of particular importance are the volumes recorded in recent years by the Sanlorenzo Superyacht division, specializing in the construction of metal superyachts from 40 to 80 meters: in fact 21 superyachts have been built to date, 15 of which are currently under construction. A positive trend that has prompted the company in its decision to invest 60 million euros in the next two years, of which: - 24 million euros destined for

the production site of La Spezia and its renovation - 20 million euros for the Ameglia site, where the spaces dedicated to the production of fiberglass craft have doubled - 16 million euros for the acquisition of the “Fipa” shipyards in Massa (about 20,000 square meters) and in Viareggio (7,000 square meters), and for the renovation of the existing shipyard Furthermore, over 30 million euros will be allocated to the creation of new products and to research and development.

After the extraordinary success gained from the SX88 at the 2017 edition of the Cannes, Genoa, Düsseldorf and Miami Boats Shows, as evidenced by the sale of 13 units to date, of which three have already been launched, Sanlorenzo, on the occasion of its 60th anniversary, has unveiled a preview of the new born of its product range: the new SX72 crossover yacht.

SX72, which will be officially presented at Cannes Yachting Festival 2018.

The concept behind the project starts once again from the company’s desire to propose a completely innovative approach to on-board space, an approach by which the Zuccon studio, for the exterior lines, and Piero Lissoni, as pertains to the interior design but also as the Art Director of the company, have interpreted the first version of the

- the availability of large open spaces and large windows that ensure an effective and optimal interior/exterior communication

A happy and intelligent synthesis between the classic motor yacht with flying bridge, and the recent and growing explorer model, the SX72 incorporates the total family feeling of the SX line, keeping all the style features of SX88:

Improving Health And Well-Being Through Innovative Building Monitoring Technologies

Sensedge Air Quality Monitor by Kaiterra kaiterra.com/sensedge

Real-time building monitoring is the use of sensor technologies to collect data. It can be implemented in buildings to gather consumption data for energy and water as well as indoor environmental quality including temperature, humidity, and levels of toxic and invisible substances including carbon dioxide (CO2), particulate matter (PM 2.5, PM10), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Measuring indoor environmental quality data in real time provides opportunities to improve occupant health and well-being. As new sensor technologies are becoming available, the number of health-related data parameters that can be measured in real time are also growing to include acoustics, light and water quality. Increasing the capacity to gather, understand, and react to this real-time data can result in significant improvements in the health and well-being of building occupants. Real-time building monitoring can benefit a wide range of building typologies, including offices, schools, hospitals, housing and retail. With the vast majority of our time spent indoors, it is vital to provide healthy indoor environments, especially for the young and elderly. According to both the WHO and UNICEF, children are more vulnerable to effects of air pollution than adults. This is compounded by the fact that many schools are located in urban areas or near busy streets. Healthcare facilities require attention as effective monitoring can protect both workers and highly vulnerable patients. Offices can benefit from increased productivity and fewer absences. Housing has a large potential to benefit because of the significant time people spend at home.

Monitoring can also be used to offer these health safeguards to workers during the building construction phase, which is often an un-monitored and hazardous work place. At BEE we are working with our clients to implement real-time monitoring in order to pull meaningful data together to help analyse, communicate and derive strategies that ensure occupants health is positively impacted by the indoor environment. Our projects have reported improved worker productivity and occupant satisfaction due to real-time monitoring of indoor environmental quality. Monitoring and managing indoor air quality can results in direct health benefits. Particulate matter can cause lung disease, emphysema, and lung cancer. VOCs such as formaldehyde, toluene, and benzene are very common in building materials, and cause headaches, nausea and rashes. High CO2 levels are linked with decreased productivity and decision-making abilities, and also headaches and fatigue. Real-time monitoring can ensure low levels of indoor air pollutants are maintained and a healthy space is provided for all occupants.
