Project Description

The 1986 explosion at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant unleashed a cloud of radioactivity that blanketed much of the Soviet Union, exposing nearly 8.4 million peo ple to fatal radiation. In the crumbling fences and dilapidated houses, the sun is rising as usual in Pripyat, with radioactive substances slowly decaying. People affected by radiation have to live with the physical and mental pain all their lives. Still, many Chernobyl people don't want to leave their homes. In order to let the survivors remain in their hometowns safely, away from the radiation hazard, projects attempting to design a community consists of various types of shelters made of high-density material went well under way.

After the Chernobyl nuclear accident in 1986, local residents fled their homes due to fear of radiation, and the surrounding villages became ghost towns. Despite the lingering risks, some people choose to ignore the warnings and return to live in the restricted area.

Living in a place with radiation for a long time, people suffer from different degrees of diseases. The biggest problem is that compared with their peers, their resistance is very low. Therefore, this area is constructed of denser materials to provide people with a place to live away from radiation.

At Chernobyl, some of the radioactive cesium-137 levels could have been dangerous. Cesium particles are absorbed by grass roots, and vegetables contaminated with radiation may threaten human health. Therefore, this area uses filtered water and soil to grow radiation-free vegetables and fruits.

The interior of Zeolith natural ore is not only full of tiny pores and channels more complex than a honeycomb; it also has a huge surface area, the lowest factory uses Zeolith to purify water and soil containing radiation.

Therefore, how to face up to the past, how to relieve pain, and how to face the future are just a few questions that linger in my mind during the entire architectural design process.

Project Description

The design of this project is a heritage park, mainly in the form of a boardwalk combined with nodes, from the traffic loop to the heritage site, with the technique of spatial narrative, deducing the historical development from ancient times to the present.

Since it is a site park design, the historical development of the site is a core consideration. Lisbon’s history can be roughly divided into four periods. The first period was marked by a desire for trade interests, land expansion, and natural exploration. People began to sail out to the sea, for honor and money, while suffering from shipwreck, the missing, the unknown and confusion at the same time. In the second period, Lisbon was hit by a massive earthquake, which, along with subsequent fires and tsunamis, which killed many people and destroyed half of its existing buildings. In the third period, the First French Empire founded by Napoleon, started a war with Portugal, leading to the fall of the Portuguese Dynasty and enormous casualties. The fourth period was peaceful, but the castle was left idle with no one to repair under natural weathering. The castle accompanied the people of Lisbon through so much suffering, and resulted in today's appearance.

In terms of design, the west side of the site is the Atlantic Ocean, the east side is near the natural lawn, and there are the road and housing in between. In terms of planning, the starting point, namely the entrance square, is designed at the intersection with the ring road for vehicle parking and crowd evacuation. Then the whole space is arranged in time sequence , namely navigation, earthquake, war and time.

EARTHQUAKE

The Lisbon earthquake of 1755 killed about 100,000 people. After the earthquake, the accompanying fires and huge tsunami destroyed almost the entire Lisbon. The fire and tsunami that followed after the earthquake burned Lisbon even more. At the same time, it also caused a serious decline in Portugal's national strength, and the colonial empire has since declined.

Milreu Fortress is a historical landmark, located on a cliff on the Atlantic coast of Portugal. During the war, the fortress was vital to the city's defense due to its good views, and now, the beautiful scenery makes it a good viewing platform. The remains of a fortress, sheer cliffs and the vast Atlantic Ocean are prominent features in this setting.

The fortress of Milreu was built in the 17th century to guard the city of Riberia de Ilhas as part of the Portuguese Atlantic Defense Line. However, the well-built military fort was not destroyed by the war but was badly damaged in the great earthquake of 1755, and was abandoned in 1806. Dramatically, 25 years later, due to the needs of the war, the fort was restored and reactivated, until 1853, when the fort of Milreu was decommissioned again and gradually collapsed over the years.

In the age of discovery, ocean voyages meant adventure. People continue to sail away with the unknown, curiosity, infinite longing for their hometown and longing for wealth.

Project Description

Among the countries with data available, it is estimated that about 80,000 sites in Australia have soil pollution; China lists 16% of its soil and 19% of its agricultural soil as contaminated, which are polluted to varying degrees by heavy metals, including chromium, nickel, arsenic contamination. Nonetheless, they are still considered as arable lands and are used to produce food for human consumption. In addition, there are approximately 3 million potentially contaminated sites in the European Economic Area and the Western Balkans; 1,300 sites in the United States are included in the country’s Super Fund list of national key pollution hotspots.

Heavy metals cannot be biodegraded, on the contrary, they can be increased by hundreds of times by the biomagnification effect in the food chain, and eventually enter the human body. Heavy metals can stay in the human body after interacting with proteins and enzymes in the human body, and may also accumulate in certain human organs, causing chronic poisoning. Therefore, this design tries to use devices to alert people with the importance of protecting and loving the soil.

Inorganic salts of mercury are corrosive to the skin, eyes, and gastrointestinal tract, and can cause nephrotoxicity if ingested.

Nanluoguxiang is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Beijing. It is the largest, highest-grade, and most resource-rich chessboard-style traditional residential area in my country that fully preserves the hutong courtyard style of the Yuan Dynasty. It is also the street with the traditional Beijing style.Therefore, many tourists come here to visit and enjoy themselves every day.

To manage its tourist inflow overload, Nanluoguxiang even took the initiative to cancel the title of 3A scenic spot.However, on both sides of the hutong, there are still many residents who are unable to live normally due to the endless stream of tourists. Such excessive commercialization makes the residential area too crowded and the basic living needs cannot be met. Therefore, this project tries to renovate in a small space to provide residents with more living and entertainment options.

We took inspiration from this, and summarized the life of a flower into three stages: bud – half-bloom and half-closed -- bloom.

We turned the three stages of peanut’s lifecycle into a controllable process by human beings, so that people can experience the miracle through manually controlling the life process. In the process, we hope to reveal the meaning of life, time and space, sent through flowers.

Step 5: Fill the processed acrylic round box with a diameter of 30mm into different amounts of fluorescent sandstone

Step 6: According to the location of the line, fix bamboo planting grooves with a diameter of 50mm in the four corners of the device, and plant the plants.
