Get the Best Out of Your Mascara and Take Your Lashes to the Next Level

by Thuy Tran

This essential product can go from being your best friend to your worst enemy in a blink of an eye and finding the perfect one can be a life-long mission and battle. You don’t have to go through this alone. Here are 7 tips and tricks to get the most out of your mascara and change your lash game, forever.

1. Get the right one. If you feel like your lashes aren’t looking like the way you’d like them to, maybe you are using the wrong one. Just like humans, mascara wands come in all different types of shapes and sizes—you just have to find the one that meets your needs. There are endless types of wands out there for every type of lashes. Here are a few examples:

Classic wands: If you want a more voluminous result, this style of wand is the one you need!

Tampered comb wand: The comb-like bristles on this wand will help you separate your lashes and perfect for full coverage but not volume.

Curved comb wand: The wand imitates your lashes’ natural curl so its purpose is to curl the lashes while preventing it from clumping.

2. Wiggling instead of sweeping.

3. Give it some time to set.

Here’s a trick to effectively cover all of your lashes while separating them at the same time. Use the wiggling effect. To achieve this, just lightly move the wand from side to side, in a zig-zag motion from the root of your lashes to the tip as opposed to sweeping motions.

Doing makeup is already time consuming, the last thing you want is to wait for a product to dry. However, allowing each coat to set is important when applying multiple coats of mascara. Try applying one coat first and let it set while you move to the next step of your make-up routine, then come back to put on another coat and so on. This will prevent you from having one thick chunky coat. 4. Primer Primer Primer. Yes, lash primers are a thing and they do wonders for your lashes. Before applying mascara, swipe on a coat or two of lash primer and let it dry for thirty seconds for that extra length, curl and volume. Your lashes will be thanking you!

5. Dried-up mascara? Ever had to throw away an expensive mascara just because you thought it was empty? Contact solution is not just a solution for fixing dry contact lens but also dried-up mascara tube. Squirt a few drops of saline solution into your mascara tube and gently mix it. The wet formula of the contact lens solution will help add moisture and consistency to the dried mascara.

6. Use it as eyeliner. You can kill two birds with one stone by using mascara as eyeliner. The trick would work best using a creamier mascara. Just use any eye makeup brush to apply the product to your lash line.

7. Getting messy? Applying mascara can get messy. Try using the card trick. All you have to do is place a business sized card behind your lashes to keep the product from getting on your lid or eyeshadow and apply your mascara.
