7 Things every Indian should know about Sri Lanka Sri Lanka is named Asia’s leading destination in 2017. Although Sri Lanka is only 28 Kms away from India, there is a world of a difference between these two countries in culture, nature, religious and even spiritual belief.

1. Traffic is not as chaotic as India. Car drivers are sensitive to pedestrians and slow down to let them cross. Buses are an exception and drivers go at break neck speed to pick up the next passenger. 2. Food is delicious, thanks to the foreign influence right from the colonial times. Imagine food influence from South Asia, East Asia, Middle East and European tradition. This exotic combination has led to mouth-watering delicacies across the island. 3. When touts approach a tourist, a simple no is all it takes to send them away. Sri Lankan’s are not trouble makers. 4. Sri Lanka is actually safe for solo travelers. As long as you exercise common sense, wear modest clothing and avoid exploring places alone in the dark, it is easy to travel solo.

Hotels and their rating does not apply international standards. Don’t expect a 4 star in Europe and a 4 star in Sri Lanka to be similar.
