FOR CLINICAL SOCIAL WORK

PSYCHODYNAMIC GRADUATE STUDIES

1345 W. ARGYLE STREET CHICAGO ILLINOIS 60640

Founded in 1981

WE ARE Psychodynamic professionals and practicing clinicians who are nationally recognized as leaders in the field.

The Institute for Clinical Social Work (ICSW) was started by a small group of visionary social workers from leading Chicago-area institutions. The founders were aware that most doctoral programs in social work focused on policy, administration, and research, with little preparation for clinical work. ICSW’s founders understood why: these programs resided within universities, where they were pulled in multiple directions by the needs of the larger institution, its competing departments, and its dependence on grant-winning research. ICSW is proud to be the only independent, accredited clinical social work Ph.D. program in the United States. It boasts 130 full and part time students and 60 faculty. ICSW remains independent and is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. It is recognized across the nation for its outstanding faculty of scholarpractitioners, dedication to students, and contributions to the field of psychodynamic education.

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Dear Friends & Supporters: I’m excited to present you with the 2023 Annual Report for the Institute for Clinical Social Work (ICSW) in Chicago. Since our founding in 1981, for over forty years, ICSW’s graduate programs, continuing education workshops, and community partnerships have touched individuals in communities across the nation. ICSW’s most recent survey of alumni show that our graduates are working as community agency leaders, directors in mental health care centers, therapists in private practice, leaders in government, consultants and supervisors, counselors and educators in both secondary and postsecondary education. This year’s annual report highlights annual scholarship recipients, key events organized by faculty, staff and alumni, and provides reports on institutional finances and donors. Amongst this year’s scholarship recipients, ICSW is proud to highlight recipients like Marissa Keep, an enthusiastic advocate for children’s mental health, and Michael Whiteside who as an outpatient manager created a mental health program used to assist patients struggling with suicidal ideations, homicidal ideations, and substance use addictions. I am incredibly proud of the work and commitment of our board of trustees, faculty, staff, and alumni, and I consider it a privilege to work in partnership with our community in advancing the mission of psychodynamic graduate education. It is because of you and your generous contributions that we continue to advance our mission and prepare quality therapists for careers providing compassionate, in-depth, and relationship grounded mental health care in diverse communities across the nation. I hope that you enjoy the highlights included in this report for our 2022-2023 Fiscal Year. PRESIDENT
