10 REASONS TO LEARN SPANISH AT THE INSTITUTO CERVANTES IN SYDNEY
Official institution of the Government of Spain. The Instituto Cervantes in Sydney is the only cultural Centre endorsed by the Government of Spain. Studying Spanish at our centre offers you the opportunity to meet and discover the different cultures of the Hispanic world. Native teachers. All our teachers are Spanish native speakers, university graduates, specialized in the teaching of ELE (Spanish as a Foreign Language) and passionate about the Spanish language. Day, evening and Saturday classes. The Instituto Cervantes offers morning and evening courses from Monday to Saturday. Students can choose courses based on their free time.
Choice of courses. One, two and three month courses. We also offer special courses in conversation, literature, DELE... Current methodology and friendly environment. Our teachers use the latest teaching methods as directed by the Council of Europe. Communication in Spanish is the objective of our courses, and therefore students will be encouraged, from day one, to use the language actively. Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE). The DELE diplomas are the only official titles of international character accrediting the domain of the Spanish language. These Diplomas are granted by the Ministry of Education of Spain. You can take and prepare for the DELE exam at the Instituto Cervantes in Sydney. Free access to AVE (Spanish Virtual Classroom - AVE). Students attending general courses have free access to AVE (on-line learning courses). Prime location. The Cervantes Institute is located in the heart of the academic and cultural area of Sydney, directly opposite the University of Sydney, close to the University of Technology Sydney and Notre Dame University, just 200 meters from Seymour Cultural Centre and 100 meters from Broadway Shopping Centre. Free Library Card. Students have free access to the library, where they can consult or borrow Spanish books, CDs, DVDs and magazines usually hard to find elsewhere. Only valid during the course. Cultural Activities. The students can participate in the cultural activities organized throughout the year. Thanks to our native teachers and our cultural activities our students will not only learn Spanish but experience the language and culture.
OUR LEVELS AND DESCRIPTION

Our academic program for general language courses follows the levels presented by the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). The CEFR describes what a learner is supposed to be able to do at each level using the foreign language. These descriptors can be applied to any of the languages spoken in Europe, which provides a valuable basis for the common recognition of language qualifications.
Our comprehensive Spanish language courses develop the student´s ability to understand, speak, read, write and interact in Spanish. As communication is our main objective, students will be encouraged to use the language actively from day one. Together with this fluency practice, the grammar will be used as a tool to reinforce the student´s language and, therefore, there will be also time for accuracy practice. Each of our five levels, from basic user to independent user, is divided into different courses and each course consists of 30 hours of class attendance given in a period of approximately 10 weeks.
LEVELS A1 AND A2
A1: A1.1 and A1.2 Breakthrough After A1 the students will be able to express themselves simply in basic and predictable everyday life situations. A2: A2.1, A2.2 and A2.3 Waystage After A2 the students will be able to express themselves adequately in basic social situations and communicate satisfactorily in everyday life situations. LEVELS B1 AND B2 B1: B1.1, B1.2, B1.3 and B1.4 Threshold After B1 the students will be able to express themselves reasonably accurately and with a degree of flexibility in familiar but more complex everyday life situations. B2: B2.1, B2.2, B2.3, B2.4 and B2.5 Vantage After B2 the students will be able to communicate fluently and with sufficient accuracy, using an appropriate register of formality, to express their ideas well, using language suitable for the situation. LEVEL C1 C1: C1.1, C1.2, C1.3, C1.4, C1.5 and C1.6 Proficiency After C1 the students will be able to express themselves fluently and spontaneously, using the appropriate register for the context of the conversation and the intentions of the speaker. NOTE: There is an exam at the end of each level (A1.2, A2.3, B1.4, B2.5 and C1.6) which will assess all the contents of the level. This exam will also allow the student to access the next level.

ON-LINE COURSES TO PREPARE FOR THE DELE EXAM: B1 & B2 These courses are organized following the same structure as the DELE exams. You will find important information in each section, the scores required to pass each of them, the time, and much more.
If you want to have a certificate of proficiency in Spanish or a Spanish language diploma that is valid throughout the world, you can register at Instituto Cervantes for the DELE (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera).

Placement test* Students with prior knowledge of Spanish language must undergo a placement test prior to enrolment in order to be placed in the most appropriate course. If you want to have your test at a specific time and date to avoid waiting, call 0292749200 or send us an email to ic.sydney@cervantes.es to make an appointment. *Please note that there is a $50 fee for the Spanish assessment test that will be deducted from the course fee.

Class Cancellation The Instituto Cervantes reserves the right to cancel a course in cases of insufficient student numbers or unforeseen circumstances, in which case students can choose to enrol in a similar course or obtain a full refund.

Refunds Students should consider their personal commitments and circumstances before enrolment as we regret that no fees are refundable under any circumstances once the course has started. No partial refund can be granted for classes not attended and no postponement can be allowed.

Changing Class All requests to change enrolment status (class level, time or day) must be made during the first week of the course and in writing. They require the approval of the Head of Studies. Please be advised that, in the event of a course change, students will be responsible for any applicable price adjustments.

Class Specification Classes consist of a minimum of 7 students and a maximum of 12 students. For classes with less than 7, the course fee remains the same but the number of classes is reduced, being the contents of the course the same. (5-6 students: 9 weeks tuition) Courses include a 10 minute break after 60 minutes of class. From the first day of class, Spanish will be the main language throughout the course.
