COURSEWORK is worth 60%

We have a small shop at school where equipment can be bought. See a technician and our display to see what there is on sale.

We start on coursework at the start of year 10. During this time pupils will complete a taught induction before completing their major personal project.

The 10 hour exam is usually around Easter time and after this is completed and all the work is handed in, the course is completed.

 During the induction your child will have a print out of weekly homework in their planner. Use this to encourage them to keep up to date with work and get used to planning time to meet a deadline.

 Talk to your child about their work, get them to show you what they have been doing and explain what their work is about.  In folders/books there will be post-its from staff and comments in the back with suggestions of work that can be done if they are not sure on what they should be working on.  Encourage them to set time aside each week to carry on with work, ideally the same time so that they get into the routine of completing work.

Encourage them to attend at lunchtime or afterschool so they have access to staff and

The wording used by the exam boards assesses the pupils ability in each area:

The final grade will reflect the time, quality and richness of effort that pupils put into their work. A project needs to reflect the exciting culmination of all ideas and research done during the prep time. The processes of experimentation and exploration will have identified the right materials and techniques required to achieve the best quality outcome.

Time spent planning, thinking and working on the project will be worth it in the end. HOMEWORK– Pupils should be doing 2 to 3 hours a week out of lessons. During the induction homework will be set by staff, but as students move on to individual projects, their homework is a continuation of what they are doing in school. If pupils are unsure, have a look for notes / comments / tutorial notes in books or on Google slides

At the end of the course the work is marked internally and marks out of 96 are shared with the students. After the marks have gone to the exam board (AQA) a moderator comes into school marks a sample of the work.

These final marks are sent to the exam board and the final grades are issued on results day in August.
