Countdown to Examinations GCSE Italian


Examination Dates - GCSE Italian O Listening and Reading – Friday

24th May (a.m.) O Speaking– Thursday 11th April (exact times to be advised) O Writing – Monday 3rd June (p.m.)

Exam Content – GCSE Italian O Listening - Unit 1

The examination lasts about 35 minutes at Foundation Level and 45 minutes at Higher Level. It allows candidates to show that they are able to understand spoken Italian in a variety of situations. Each item will be heard twice. Use will be made of non-verbal responses, such as box ticking, multiple choice and matching and verbal responses in English and/or in Italian.


Exam Content – GCSE Italian O Listening - Unit 1

The listening test may assess, among other things, the comprehension of public announcements, instructions and requests, interviews, news items, short dialogues and monologues such as weather forecasts.


Exam Content – GCSE Italian O Speaking - Unit 2

The examination lasts about 7-9 minutes (plus 12 minutes preparation time) at Foundation Level and 10-12 minutes (plus 12 minutes preparation time) at Higher Level. It allows candidates to show that they are able to respond to a variety of stimuli and situations using spoken Italian.


Exam Content – GCSE Italian O Reading – Unit 3 O The examination, lasting 45 minutes at

Foundation Tier and 60 minutes at Higher Tier, allows candidates to show that they are able to understand and respond to written Italian in different registers and contexts and from different sources. Use will be made of non-verbal responses such as boxticking, multiple choice and matching and verbal responses in English and/or in Italian.


Exam Content – GCSE Italian O Reading – Unit 3

The reading test may assess, among other things, the comprehension of written public notices and signs, magazines or newspaper articles and personal information such as that found in letters, notes, e-mails or messages.


Exam Content – GCSE Italian O Writing – Unit 4

The examination, lasting 60 minutes at Foundation Tier and 75 minutes at Higher Tier, allows candidates to show that they are able to write structured pieces of Italian in different registers and contexts. The writing test may assess, among other things, the ability to compose accurate written Italian in response to a variety of stimuli – photograph, translation of sentences, a specific piece of writing designed to reply to clearly defined bulletpoints .
