Love and Peace

Aren’t these the two things we continue to strive for our entire lives? The image of me making merry in my own space, with lots of pampering and having some good, aromatic food suffices my holiday requisites. Ever since the team of iCRAZE has been to Hyatt Place, Gurgaon, such thoughts and images have kind of refused to leave my mind. Fleeing from the ever-so-occupied working hours the team iCRAZE planned a travel review of the place and came back with you-know-what – an urge to just go back. Laden with comforts and contemporary needs Hyatt place is everything and anything that a traveller today looks forward to. Read on the cover story inside for better and detailed information. Bringing back the military, autumn and nautical vibe is Alia Bhatt who is literally going places promoting her latest outing ‘Shaandaar’. While there is no denying that the young actress looks every bit of ‘Shaandaar’ in the clean and chic fashion choices she makes, the 22-year-old star makes sure she gives you the best of her sense of style. Joining hands with Jabong the actor comes out with her yet another fashion line. We take fashion a notch higher with the latest line of Spykar being put up in an exclusive shoot by iCRAZE. Shivin Narang The guy next door

Let’s find out more about this cute heartthrob sensation of the small screen. He quipps and Chandra Thapa listens.

I

nspite of being just 2 serials old this dude from Delhi has made a striking fan following. Something more interesting to note is that even being a fresh actor, he has shown a great potential as a versatile actor. From his debut serial Suvreen Guggal-the topper of the year to his current role in Ek Veer ki Ardas Veera, he has proved that acting comes naturally to him. How has your childhood been like? My childhood was very exciting, quite playful. I have been blessed by loving parents and family. In Delhi, the atmosphere is different from Mumbai. We were very much friendly with the neighbours and got that local touch more as compared to Mumbai because people here are busy in their own lives. We used to roam in our car a lot. I can’t put it in words but maybe people who are from Delhi can relate to this. I enjoyed my school and college life a lot. We had such big schools with big playgrounds so that even if we bunk inside schools, no one could catch. I was an active

student and sports captain of my school and college. Your career break through was? Until I entered the college, I was confused. One thing I was sure that I didn’t want to do a desk job, I wanted to do something exciting. I had 2-3 options in mind and sports were one of them. Professional shooter was the second option. Acting also was there at the back of my mind but I used to think that completely relaying on an acting career would be difficult for someone who has no background in the industry. One fine day I decided to give it a chance and made my portfolio. I mailed it to various people. People from ‘Suvreen Guggal’ contacted me through Facebook. Initially I refused but then I liked the script, so I sent my recorded audition from Delhi. Even when they called me to Mumbai, I was skeptical. However, I thought to have a go. I came down to Mumbai and got selected on the very first day. And till date, it has been like this only. What made you take up acting as

your career? Like I said, I had many things but I was not sure as what exactly I wanted to do. It happens when you have too many things in mind. Some start as doctors and end up being engineers. Acting was an option for me but I didn’t know where to begin and what to seek. There is a huge difference between the shooting process in Delhi and Mumbai. Initially, I was not even ready to come to Mumbai. It happened and I enjoyed the process of film making, show making. I am still enjoying it right now. If not an actor you would have been? Most probably a sportsperson! Tell us about your free time indulgence? I don’t get much free time but since more than a month I am free after ‘Veera’, I am doing things which I couldn’t do while I was busy with shooting. I play squash, read books, do kick boxing, learn music and I have also joined dance classes to learn different dance forms. 23 | OCT-NOV 2015 | iCraze

iCraze Star As we know you are a big foodie. What is your favourite cuisine? My favorites are Punjabi and Mughlai cuisines. If I am not on diet, I like Aloo paratha, butter chicken, naan. I really enjoy it. Anyone from film fraternity you idolize? I can’t name one because I enjoy and get inspired by many good films and actors but if you ask my personal favorite then it would be Shahrukh khan, Hrithik Roshan, Ranbeer Kapoor and obviously Amitabh Bachhan tops the list. How would you define style? We never know our styles. We act as good as we can or we make up whatever the audience like to see on us. I don’t know but I love behaving natural. Any plans of hitting the silver screen? I never plan anything. I never planned to come to Mumbai and be a part of youth show or a prime time show. Things happened to me. As an actor, I concentrate on acting rather than sit and plan my next move. The most important thing is, ‘things do come in your life even if you don’t realize it’. What more is in the pipeline? iCraze | OCT-NOV 2015 | 24

I am enjoying life. I am enjoying myself and exploring new things. How are you going to celebrate Diwali this year? Every time I prefer going to Delhi to celebrate Diwali as I am in Mumbai for more than three years. This

year too, I am going to Delhi as usual. Message to your fans? Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. My fans are with me since day one. They have stood in my good-bad times, ups and downs. Keep loving me and I love you all.

Maria Goretti’s

Culinary Collaboration with White Owl Brewery by SUPRIYA KHEMANI

N

ovember is a time for celebration and merriment. It’s the perfect time to bring together family and friends and spend time with the people you love. When you add some great food and fresh brews into a gathering, it is guaranteed to be a truly memorable time. So to make sure your meal is as special as they can make it, they got celebrity chef and food enthusiast, Maria Goretti to come help them out. What happened when Chef Dinesh Bherwani and Ms Goretti started working on the menu can only be described as magical and after many days of experimenting and trials, they have produced a menu that is a paradigm of the two of them. It effortlessly brings together Chef Dinesh’s skills and Ms. Goretti’s creativity and palate to create a menu that is both experimental and approachable. Since the menu is so close to their heart, Maria and Dinesh have taken every care to ensure that the food served is authentic and delicious. Maria’s East-Indian Prawns are made with special Goan vinegar that is made by Maria’s father. The Outlander, a Munich Lager with its moderate sweet malt

flavour, mild spicy aroma and moderate-light body, is the perfect companion to the dish as it enhances the tang of the vinegar and the slight bite of the kashmiri chili. Having been brought up in Africa, Chef Dinesh is very fond of African food, and when they realized that Maria loves African food too, the Chicken Babootie was immediately put on the menu. When paired with the Diablo, an Irish Red Ale, the Babootie gets an little fancier as the brew has a mild caramel & roast flavour that pulls the beautiful golden raisins into the spotlight and the mild roast aroma of the brew combines with the luscious egg custard and minced ginger making every bite exceptional. The Burnt Marshmallow & Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich pays

homage to all of our childhood fantasies. The decadent dessert, that could only have been cooked up by two foodies who

are self proclaimed chocoholics gets an adult twist when had with our English Porter, Shadow. The strong roast & mild chocolate flavour, add a bitter-sweet dimension to the dessert, while the strong roast aroma, gives you a rich and satisfying end to a beautiful meal. name so popular like Ssharad Malhotraa, needs no introduction. He shot to fame through his debut serial ‘Banu Main Teri Dulhan’ and since then there is no looking back for him. His passion for acting took him to New York where he attended acting course from the New York Film Academy. With his current TV serial ‘Bharat Ka Veer PutraMaharaja Pratap’, he made his comeback in the TV industry after a long gap. Apart from TV serial, Ssharad has acted in a couple of films which are released on the web space. Chart about your childhood? My childhood was pretty good. I was the most pampered child. I have an elder sister too. I lived in Kolkata. My parents gave

me abundant love and security. Kolkata as a city is fantastic to live. The culture, the literature everything was awesome in terms of environment. I was a naughty and a rebellious child. I was always particular about things in life and even today I am. How was your experience working on silver screen and how is working on small screen different from the silver screen? TV and films both are unique mediums. There is no comparison. Films are larger than life. One pays to see a film where as TV you can see on the press of a remote button. TV is hectic especially daily soaps and deadlines are there. Films have charm and so does TV. Acting is acting at the end of the day. On TV you are recognized because of your characters and audiences watch TV daily like they eat dal chawaal regularly. (laughs) How did Maharana Pratap happen to you? I was looking for a comeback on Tv after a four year break. I was looking for a right show. I auditioned for it and eventually bagged the title role. My producers Abhimanayu Singh and Roopali Singh are good people. The show has given me everything. I am enjoying the show. What significant changes did you see in yourself after playing the character of the great warrior Maharana Pratap? How challenging the character was for you to play? Maharana Pratap re-established me as an actor. It made a bond between me and the life of Maharana Pratap. It gave me an opportunity to be friendly with the horse that plays ‘Chetak’. My audiences were happy to

see me as Maharana Pratap. The character required a lot of me physically as well as emotionally. How has Maharana Pratap changed your life and career? Maharana Pratap has definitely changed my life as I came back on TV after four years so it has definitely helped me bounce back in a very nice and larger than life way. It’s a very popular show among the masses people really love my show. I have came back in a very big way. Four years is a very long time and people tend to forget you and recall value is very less but still I got good response from the audience. It has helped me to re shape my career again. I got my fans back like everything has just came back to me like fame popularity so it’s nice.

Ambitious. You are one of the most desirable bachelors around. Comment. - This is one of the awesome tag line that I have received in past few weeks. It feels good. If people consider me as a desirable bachelor that means people want to see you and it’s a nice feeling. How important is love in life? Love is very important. Love is definitely an emotion which protects you and cares for you. Do you think men love to be a loner? I love spending time with myself for that I would not call myself a loner. I love giving time to myself. I do things which I love to do. I talk to myself.

Most interesting compliment you ever got for Maharana Pratap. The most interesting compliment I have ever got is – You are not Ssharad Malhotraa you are Maharana Pratap. What are your hobbies other than acting? I love to travel, I love adventure sports. Also, I love to write and sketch. I like reading and sleeping too. How do you unwind yourself? Unwind for me would be playing my favourite sport and that is cricket. What makes Ssharad Malhotraa happy? When I see people around me happy, I automatically start feeling happy. Give five adjectives to describe yourself... Charming, Hardworking, Sincere, Humble and 43 | OCT-NOV 2015 | iCraze

iCraze Star actors should have back up career in their life as acting profession is short lived. Are you not tired of your mustache and long hair it’s already hot weather? I am loving my mustache and long hair but when it really gets too hot I get little irritated because it’s difficult to maintain long hair and mustache. In a historical show you can’t do much to change your look. Do you agree? If it is a historical show you can’t be dude and have to go with the character’s look. One needs to have historical look and a mindset that suits the story. What are your ambitions at this point of time? I want to do good films and good roles. Also, I wish to play a role which I have never played before. What are your upcoming projects? For now I am doing only one daily soap Maharana Pratap. What is your fitness regime? I go to gym atleast four days in a week. I am particular about my diet. I mostly prefer home-made food. Who are your favourite actors males and female and why? Shahrukh Khan, Irfaan Khan and Deepika Padukone, Parineeti Chopra and Anuskha Sharma. Three things you want to change about yourself. I am very moody I really want to change that . I want to be more social. I want to be little punctual. Do you believe experience makes a man perfect? Yes, I believe that experience makes a man perfect. Good and iCraze | OCT-NOV 2015 | 44

bad experiences in life makes a man mature and this experience is very important in life. Are you a foodie? What all you love in food? Yes, I am a big foodie. I live to eat. I love tandoori chicken and anything made with paneer. I love my mom-made rajma chawal. Do you feel a TV actor should have an alternate career plan in mind given the nature of the profession? Yes, the TV, theater and film

You would prefer a girl with beauty or with brain? I would prefer a girl with brain for sure because beauty won’t last forever rather brain would. Any special plans for Diwali. I mostly intend to go to Kolkata to be with my parents. Diwali is a fantastic festival. I feel crackers should be avoided because they cause a lot of pollution and environmental damage. Any message to your fans. Live life one day at a time. Life is what you make of it. God delays are not denials.

Reshape your fitness with

Bharti Thapa! Let’s find out more about her and her fitness tricks as she shares it with Manish Solanki.

A

young and energetic fitness enthusiast Bharti Thapa has trailed a long way from being a part time health consultant to an entrepreneur. As she fondly describes healthy living and fitness her inner calling, she left her CA studies in between to persue a career in fitness. At a very young age she has garnered many techniques ranging from hardcore fitness exercises to yoga and aerobics which she has blended well to form her own method. With a sole aim to spread awareness of healthy living amongst women, she has been reshaping their lifestyle since a long while now. How and when did you get inclined towards fitness? I guess my interest in fitness started during my school time only. I was very active in sports and took part in athletic activities. With every passing year my interest in fitness also grew. As we all know that the lifestyle trends are growing and iCraze | OCT-NOV 2015 | 56

changing at a rapid pace and this single thought scares me a lot. Following a healthy and fit lifestyle helps me to keep the regular diseases away. What are the fitness rules that you suggest others to stick to? According to me, fitness is a proper composition of healthy diet and exercise. I suggest others to follow the fitness rule of 80% of healthy diet and 20% of exercise. One’s diet should consist of ample amount of proteins, fiber and complex carbohydrates and at least 3 liters of water. 45 to 60 minutes of physical or mental activities should be done. Apart from that one should have a positive attitude towards life. What was the major driving force behind setting up your health center? The reason to set up my health center was ‘Women’s health’. According to me a healthy female of a family can keep her whole family healthy. In India the women are usually ignorant about their health. There are many misconceptions that prevail in the Indian society regarding the fitness and working out at the gym. Idea behind this gym is to make the women of the society aware about their health and fitness and also to provide them proper guidance to healthy living. What kind of fitness technique you recommend people for quick

weight loss? There is no such key for fast weight loss. Proper diet and timing plays a very important role in fitness which includes proper sleep as well. What is your approach of healthy and fit life? Healthy life for me is healthy body, mind and soul. My approach of fitness is positive attitude, healthy food and at least one hour of exercise daily. With lifestyle diseases like Blood Pleasure, Diabetes are becoming very common. What would you suggest to avoid them? Maximum of lifestyle diseases are just due to ignorance of the healthy breakfast. In India, people ignore breakfast, or if they do, they start it with a wrong bite. There is a saying that one’s breakfast should be like a king, means nutritious, lunch like a worker, less in quantity and dinner like a beggar. But in India it’s just the opposite. To avoid lifestyle diseases one should start their day with the healthy bite and exercise. Any 3 exercises you commonly recommend to people. I recommend the exercises that people of any age group can do. One can take up jogging to improve heart. Apart from that Surya Namaskar which is a good stretching exercise and improves flexibility and lunges and Scotts to improve core muscles. What are the common misconceptions people have about gyming that you usually surface? One of the most common misconceptions is regarding the gym or exercise is that once we stop working out in the gym we put on weight more rapidly hence people avoid gyming. It’s not the discontinuation of exercise that

leads weight to bounce back but getting back to the irregular eating habits does. People generally think that getting into weight loss program for once will solve their problem till rest of their life so they ignore weight maintenance program. One should take extra care on their calorie intake after quitting gym or exercises. Apart from hardcore fitness techniques you have incorporated yoga and aerobics into the practice. What was the idea behind it? I believe in accomplishing all three components of fitness that is Strength, Flexibility and Stamina. Gyming strengthens the body muscles while yoga makes your body flexible and improves mental

balance and tones the body. On the other hand aerobics is essential to boost up your stamina. The amalgamation of these three techniques helps achieving over all fitness more easily. As festival season is approaching which means a license to get indulged in lots of eating. What would you suggest to the readers to avoid putting on that extra Diwali weight? I think the other way round actually. It’s easier to be in shape during festival time. You can clean your home without maid (laugh). Well I would suggest to avoid deep fried and maida snacks, rather go for dry fruits. Don’t skip your green tea. Take out some time for 45 min exercise and drink a lot of water. 57 | OCT-NOV 2015 | iCraze

he wedding in India can be divided into three sections i.e. Pre-wedding, Wedding, Post wedding. You have functions like Mehndi, Sangeet, Sagan, Haldi, Wedding, Reception etc. Pre Wedding- The pre-wedding rituals begin days before the wedding date with Roka or formal commitment of both the families towards marriage. It is followed by Sagaai (engagement), Haldi, Mehndi, Sangeet and several such customs varying from families to families. 1. Since, Roka is the first step towards wedding, one should choose elegant and not too gaudy attire for the Roka ceremony. Away from the beaten path, one can opt a half Saree and Anarkali Suits. 2. Wearing half Saree and Anarkali Suits on your Roka ceremony would give you elegant look and you will definitely outshine your ceremony. 3. The best part about dressing up for pre wedding ceremonies is that you can wear colours which you would usually avoid for the D-Day like blue, light pinks, yellow, green, purple and many more. 4. Plain shararas with glam heavy duppattas is a good choice. Try choosing an elegant design for your attire with light gotta, mirror or dabka embroidery. 5. Always choose an outfit which is very much comfortable One can go for an Anarkali, lehenga, suit, Sharara or churidhar which are favourite in India during wedding seasons. So flaunt your look this wedding season in a beautiful Anarkali, Sarees, chooridars, and sharara which are perfect for pre wedding ceremonies. Wedding - While shopping for a wedding, it is the bridal trousseau that takes most of the time and effort. In the present times, most of

the brides prefer wearing a lehenga-Choli for their wedding. Today Indian brides are opting for bolder designs and have an abundance to choose from, Sarees, Lehenga, Salwar Kameez, Sharara, a bride can opt for any of the silhouette. 1. Red has been a favorite for centuries but pinks 2. , golden, magenta, orange, peach and even yellow can be opted. Never follow any set of rules, instead create your own look and flaunt it on your wedding day. 3. Gone are the days where the bride was expected to cover her pretty face with the saree pallu these days a bride can opt for fabulous saree drapes that suits her body shape. Lehenga style sarees are very trendy where the saree is draped in order to look like a lehenga. 4. In terms of style, you have the option of four different cuts in your bridal lehenga skirt - fish cut, straight cut, A-line cut and flares. If we talk about fabrics you will find a lot of options in a bridal lehenga. Amongst the most common fabrics that are used for a bridal lehenga is satin. 5. Another option comprises of tissue, which gives a royal appeal to the outfit. You can also go for net, with a georgette or satin base, for creating the perfect bridal lehenga. These days, crepe, Velvet and georgette have also started being included in the fabric choices for a bridal lehenga. 6. When it comes to the work then gota patti, pittan and bandzari are in trend now. When it comes to colors, the first color that comes into mind is red. If you are looking for something different then you can try double shaded, contrast or multi coloured outfits. Such types of pattern will break the uniformity of your attire and will also give you a fresh look. Post wedding - The post marriage celebration is probably the last event of marriage celebration in India. Wearing an evening gown for your reception will be a great choice. A gown with a trail or a blend of Greek Toga and an Indian Saree will be a perfect choice. One can opt wide or deep neckline or one shoulder or off shoulder dress with a style theme of floral, crystals, petals, patchwork and appliquĂŠ work in net, organza, chiffon and tissue or with a combination of 2 or 3. After wedding reception if you are not wearing fancy salwar kameez daily, then one can go for some beautiful kurtis in different styles like Chinese collar, flair, an empire line or a short kurti are one of the many options available for you. Pair them up with leggings, jeggings or even fitted pants. Accessorize them with a kada, earrings and cocktail rings if you are not wearing a traditional chooda.

By Mr. Kishore Ganji, Founder and CEO of Zip.in

A

versatile and innovative online supermarket organic food is gaining steady importance in the lives of people today, thanks to the immense benefits they provide. Pesticide-free and nutrient-rich, they have become an ideal food preference for people these days due to the increased awareness of maintaining a healthy diet. Owing to hectic schedules and fast-paced lives, and the unhealthy lifestyle and diseases that follow, people have resorted to going the organic way. With rising levels of pollution, people are slowly introducing

iCraze | OCT-NOV 2015 | 70

organic food into their diets in order to reduce their stress levels, and enjoy a fulfilling, healthier and happier life. Listed below are some of the lesser-known benefits of organic foods.

consist of 27% more vitamin C, 21.1% more iron, 29.3% more magnesium, 13.6% more phosphorus and 18% more poly phenols as compared to nonorganic food.

Keep the pesticides and chemicals at bay: The word organic itself indicates that these food items are not grown with the help of any chemicals, pesticides or additives. Hence, there is no risk of developing any kind of disease by consuming organic food.

High antioxidant value: Animals that are reared in an organic way get no exposure to antibiotics. On the contrary, factory-reared meat contains antibiotics in large amounts that can have a tremendous detrimental impact on the immune system of humans.

Packed with vitamins and proteins: It has been proven that organic fruits and vegetables

Fresh and healthy: As organic vegetables, fruits and meat have no preservatives and depend on

farm-to-table supplies, these are fresh and healthy to eat. They are not stored in a processing unit for days or weeks. No Chemicals: Conventional food items contain a lot of pesticides and other harmful chemicals that can cause various diseases in humans. Organic foods are made using natural fertilisers and pest repellents, which pose zero risk to the human body. Keeps you young: Organic foods help one stay young and energetic as these contain loads of proteins that prevent premature ageing. Organic foods like eggs are full of nutritional value and are packed with proteins hence it’s best to include these in one’s daily diet. No GMOs: Organic foods contain no GMOs i.e. Genetically Modified Organisms that are harmful hence there is no risk of developing infertilities and allergies. Boost the internal body system: Flavonoids are the major component of organic vegetables and fruits, that improves the cardiovascular system, lessens blood pressure and arterial plaque. Combat viruses: Organic foods like carrots enhance the density of immune T cells in the body. Prevent diseases: Organic foods like cabbage, brussels sprouts, broccoli and cauliflower are packed with indoles and isothiocyanates that are instrumental in preventing

breast cancer, colon cancer and skin cancers. Organic meat: Grass-fed and pasture-grown animals contain less fat than commercially-raised animals. Hence, organic meat is healthier and contains good cholesterol. Wrinkle-free skin: Yellow fruits and vegetables like carrots, oranges, apricots and sweet potatoes are packed with vitamin C. This generates more collagen, thus retaining the skin elasticity. Also the higher level of vitamin D in these foods helps in making the skin radiant and glowing. Healthy tummy: With its high water content and less fat level, organic foods do a great deal in keeping the tummy and muscles fit and healthy. High magnesium level: Magnesium is necessary for the proper functioning of skeletal and nervous functions. The magnesium content of most fruits and veggies has always been low. Organic foods provide the much-needed magnesium that comes from the natural manure used in their growth. Build strong bones: Organic vegetables are loaded with vitamin K. This produces osteocalcin in the body that strengthens the bones. It also offers relief to women in their menstruation period. Reduce stress: Organic foods go

through little or no processing and are loaded with unsaturated fats, thus helping to reduce stress and hypertension. Improve vision: Organic tomatoes, red peppers and papayas comprise high levels of lycopene that deals with vision problems effectively. Deal with multi-morbidity: Fresh organic foods help prevent multimorbidity. As many organic foods come directly from the farm where they are produced, the freshness of these foods lessen the vulnerability to multiple infections. Organic Meat: With less saturated fat and high omega-3 fats and conjugated linoleic acid or CLA, organic meats curb atherosclerosis and also prevent cancers. Improve the hair texture & strength: Organic crops rich in vitamin A, vitamin C, calcium and iron act as natural conditioners for the hair. These help in making the hair shinier and beautiful. Aid mental balance: Consuming organic foods on a daily basis help in improving the mood as these foods are rich in essential nutrients and vitamins, unlike the conventional foods that contain unhealthy fat and sugar. Deal with depression: A glass of organic milk a day is effective in reducing the risk of depression, strokes and other ailments, thanks to the omega-3 fatty acids it contains.

Haripur Guler: A fading heritage long weekend it is guys, Shailly shouted joyfully followed by asking everyone about their plans. Apart from hectic weekdays of corporate life in Delhi/NCR, executives often become nomads on weekends in order to search peace or to spend leisure time at either the farmhouses to the hill stations. People were discussing the same in my office, whereas I was listening to their plans sitting on the back corner of the office. I work for a research and consultancy firm which is into maritime sector. Very less people know about my after office life but when they asked me where am I heading this weekend, I replied to them with a smile that this time I am heading to one of the most unknown and untouched place in India. I will learn more about medieval period buildings architecture and other historical stories about that place. After work I went to my room and packed my bag. At around 7.30 PM I went to ISBT, New Delhi. My ticket was already booked as I iCraze | OCT-NOV 2015 | 72

was advised to have it in advance because of no uncertain demand surge in passenger traffic, keeping in mind that it’s a weekend. Let me describe more about my destination, it’s a small village in the state of Himachal Pradesh named “Haripur Guler”. Haripur Guler is situated 60 kms from Dharamshala and 17 kms to nearest town Dehra. From ISBT, Delhi it took 10 hours by ordinary bus to reach Haripur. I got down at the bus stand and received a warm welcome by a well-known local resident named Mr. Sudesh Kumar Chaudhary who has been living in the village for past 59 years and has evidenced the ups and downs in the village. Mr. Chaudhary took me to the government rest house where my room was already booked. I could figure out the age of the rest house by seeing the fire place, old furniture and granite slabs on the roof. I got fresh and took my breakfast quite hurriedly as I was very excited to roam in and around the village. I came out of the rest house and stood in lawn from where I could see the ruins

of fort situated at a very high place and could be seen easily from around 5 kms of radius, before I could think much about it Mr. Chaudhary turned up saying that is the fort of Great King Hari Chand who is said to be the founder of Haripur. Mr. Chaudhary gave historical background as Haripur and Guler are actually two different places situated at a distance of 2 kms, separated by a small river called “Bandair”. There is a historical significance behind these two places which dates back to 1405 AD when King Hari Chand from Katoch dynasty was the ruler. It is believed that he established the place and named it Haripur, being Guler as the capital. Haripur and Guler have number of temples dedicated to various Hindu gods. He further mentioned that the presence of rich old infrastructure says that Haripur Guler was a kind of developed city of its time which might have constituted thousands of people, lessened to 3,000 at present.

A

I started my journey with Shree Goverdhan Dhari temple which is aged and turned to ruins now; I was astonished with the way the temple is built, accommodating a banyan tree in its campus. Temple is now occupied by a “Baba”who is a devotee of Lord Shani (Saturn God) and has built a Shani temple at the door step of the temple premises. Just at a distance of around 200 kms, to the other side records the presence of another old temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha, although it was very small in size compare to Goverdhan Dhari but still attention worthy. The temple was damaged so much because of the presence of modern humans but still holds significant amount of beauty. I headed further to the old pond which was told by Mr. Chaudhary across the Bazar and situated at a high place. I reached after walking for 300 meters. It was constructed so well as I don’t think can be done with so perfect measurements. It was around 80 meters long, 45 meters wide and around 8 meters deep. Unfortunately, because of no proper repair and maintenance the infrastructure is losing its charm. The water is very dirty and green in color but still contains fishes and I fed them with flour made slings. I visited old temple dedicated to Lord Krishna, built on the north-eastern direction of the pond and sheltered by huge banyan tree. It might have been built along with pond. I moved further to the temple of Goddess Santoshi, who is believed to be an incarnation of Goddess Durga, The temple is situated at height and during dusk and dawn one can see far located Pong dam very clearly. I got astonished after learning about the story of ‘Tara Rani’ which is often sung in Jagrans and Kirtans, very mystic it was. I further moved to the old fort which is believed to be built by King Hari Chand in 14th century. Although the fort is

destroyed with time but still some of its walls are standing as it is. I roamed in fort for around 2 hours and check each and every corner of it. There are so many underground hidden rooms which are still preserved. If the government or the local administration would take care of the fort then if could have been a remarkable tourist and archeological site. I didn’t want to stay more as the fort is famous for haunted stories so I decided to move further. On the way to fort I visited Lord Shiva and Goddess Sarasvati temple; both were built 300 years back. Another pond attached with old temples near to the fort was also a beautiful spot. Then I came to the lower part of the village which is evidenced beautifully with Lord Vishnu temple where the deity is present in the internal sanctum of the building. I further took turn to visit the oldest temple of the village which is said to be 800 years old and dedicated to Lord Rama. It was quite surprising to see the internal campus of the temple, beautifully designed and the temple seems to look as if it was built recently. It was getting dark and I came back to rest house. I was invited by Mr. Chaudhary for the dinner at his home. I enjoyed local cuisine as it gave me a chance to know more about the place. Mr. Chaudhary also mentioned that

place is holy in itself. The place has many temples and but with time things have been vanished and occupied by local habitats. Haripur has got old temples, water wells, ponds and other old heritage which is getting faded day by day. After finishing my dinner I came back to rest house and slept off early as I was tired. Next morning after taking breakfast I went to the shore side of “Bandair” river which separates Haripur and Guler. I could see some caves built alongside the river. I enquired about them from the people working there and got to know that they are built in olden time and were used by the sages to perform meditation and chants, I don’t know to what extent it is correct but the caves were beautifully carved. On the other side of the river Guler is situated where I saw narrow gauge track, built by the British government. I took lunch at a roadside Dhaba and decided to finish the journey. Although it seemed to be a religious trip but I learnt a lot about old infrastructure built in the medieval era. Haripur is so rich in it but poor at the same time. Anyway I came back to office where my colleagues caught me and gathered to know about the amazing weekend spent in between heritage.
