NAMPA — At rush hour, it’s not uncommon to see traffic backed up on Karcher Road from the Middleton Road intersection to the Nampa Caldwell Boulevard intersection, or even farther. When the Idaho Press-Tribune asked its Facebook followers where to find the worst traffic in Canyon County, more than 90 people replied. Many of them pointed to the intersection at Karcher and Middleton roads. Melony Mendoza, a Nampa resident, was one of those. Mendoza lives in a neighborhood near that intersection, she said, and the heavy traffic there affects her commute on an almost-daily basis. “It’s just really crazy, especially during the peak hours of traffic,” Mendoza said.

CANYON COUNTY — Golden hawks, peregrine falcons and bald eagles soar through the wide-open sky over the Snake River. To each side of the Payette river, miles and miles of land Ontario, Oregon untouched by modernization offer a safe haven for the antelope and big horn sheep that roam the land with the Owyhee Mountains looming to the south. It’s a picturesque view of the Wild Greg Kreller/IPT West. It’s a backdrop that wouldn’t look out of place in the films of John Wayne View of the Snake River downstream from the Swan Falls Dam. that romanticized the West years ago and cemented into the minds of Americans what the frontier was supposed to look like. CALDWELL — The Canyon County Animal Shelter Board of Directors met Friday but did not decide on a time, date or venue for a town-hall meeting to answer concerns over a recent letter critical of the animal shelter’s operations. The board will check on the availability of a venue and meet again Wednesday to finalize information on the town-hall meeting. There is not enough room to hold the meeting at the shelter, Board President Brenda Cameron said.
