HELLO ADA COUNTY
!
Now with coverage and delivery in Ada County!
We want to be your local community newspaper. The Idaho Press may be new to many reading this. Let me start by telling you a bit about our local media company. We have a rich history of local community journalism. After all, that’s our main focus, local news! For 135 years, the Idaho Press has been committed to providing in-depth local news and information to the residents of Canyon County. Over time, our newspaper company has evolved and expanded. One of the first major evolutions took place in 1980 with the merging of the Nampa Free Press with the Caldwell Tribune. A decade later, in 1990, the Emmett Messenger Index, a weekly Gem County newspaper, became part of the Idaho Press family. Another expansion opportunity presented itself in 2013 when we launched the Meridian Press, a brand-new weekly newspaper dedicated to Meridian local news. Meridian was quickly becoming a “news desert” as other local media companies pulled back on coverage and reduced staff. Many said we were crazy to launch a newspaper from scratch. After all, it was 2013 and the challenges facing the industry were forcing many papers across the country to make drastic cutbacks. I’m happy to report that the Meridian Press has been a huge success. Both readers and advertisers love it! Today we deliver 15,000 copies to targeted homes in Meridian every Friday. Our commitment to Meridian local news will remain strong for decades to come. In 2016, we expanded our reach again with the purchase of the Kuna Melba News. We see opportunity in Kuna and have aggressively increased and upgraded the amount of local news available to residents there. Kuna is about to experience a major growth spurt, and we’ll be there to keep our readers informed. We will be there when the city council considers new developments. We will be there when the school board considers a bond for the construction of new schools. That’s what we do and that’s why our readers in Kuna trust the Kuna Melba News to keep them informed. That brings us to today. It’s no secret that the newspaper industry continues to face its fair share of challenges. How we overcome those challenges will define our company for years to come. From my chair as publisher, I see two choices. We can get much smaller and play defense or we can expand again and become the trusted source for local news across the entire Treasure Valley. I think I like the second option better. Definitely! We are excited to announce that the Idaho Press is expanding its coverage area to include all of Ada County, and home delivery of our award-winning print edition is now available anywhere in the Treasure Valley. With this expansion, we’ve added several new local news reporters to our team. After all, Boise is a big city, and you deserve more award winning local news coverage in print. To support this expansion, we have opened a news bureau in Downtown Boise. Several new local news reporters, an additional prep sports reporter and another general photographer work out of the office. Longtime and trusted news veteran Betsy Russell is the bureau chief for our Boise office which is located on the corner of 6th and Broad Street. Do you recognize this location? That’s the Boise Weekly office. Doesn’t it just make sense for us to partner with our friends at Boise Weekly? In August the Boise Weekly became part of the Idaho Press news family, together we have big plans to offer our readers even more top-notch local news and information. So if you’re disappointed with your current local news source, or if you just want more, please consider taking the Idaho Press’ “Local News Challenge” by visiting www.LocalNewsChallenge.com. Becoming a member of the Idaho Press is only $10 a month. That’s a small price to pay for access to exceptional local news coverage encompassing the entire Treasure Valley!

Family owned & locally focused
Last week, I had two since-the-1970’s friends in town at the same time; they each have been extensively involved in Idaho journalism since our early days. Their appreciation was clear: the Idaho Press... invited the reader to pick it up.
The Idaho Press and our weekly papers, Boise Weekly, the Kuna Melba News, Meridian Press and Emmett Messenger Index are part of Adams Publishing Group, a family-owned newspaper group consisting now of 27 daily newspapers, more than 100 non-daily newspapers, and a number of other media-related businesses in 15 states, including Idaho and the rest of the Pacific Northwest.
- John H. I am enjoying your expansion into Ada county. Keep up the good work. - Joe C., New Plymouth Adams Publishing Group is driven to provide high quality products and services that make a positive difference in the lives of its constituents, which are, in prioritized order: its readers, its customers/advertisers, its communities, its Associates, and its shareholders/ owners.
Adams has a huge news footprint in Idaho. We have newspapers across most of southern and central Idaho. From tiny Challis to Pocatello and Idaho Falls, from Rexburg to Kuna, we are out there covering the local news and sports that make a difference in your life.
Being part of a large family owned newspaper group means that we have the support to really make our news coverage the priority. Rather than the cuts facing most newspapers these days, we’re making the committment to local journalism that matters. We’ve added new staff, more pages in the paper, deeper coverage and are exploring growth throughout the region. We’ve heard from many readers and potential readers that there is a need for better, deeper, more timely coverage of the Boise area, and we are proud to say that we are now available for home delivery throughout Ada county. Investing in the community really comes from what our newsroom staff performs on behalf of those communities, whether it’s school board, high school sports or breaking news coverage, community newspapers perform a critical function. - Mark Adams, CEO Adams Publishing Group
High-quality journalism that impacts
Beyond just having great people, we also have the largest newspaper press in the state, staffed by great local press operators and print a great deal of the commercially printed products you see on a daily basis, from the Boise Weekly to the Boise Thrifty Nickel. Running our own multimillion-dollar press is part of our commitment to the local economy.

I have been thrilled to see that you are attempting to be a newspaper for all of the Treasure Valley. .. I am excited to see that there is a newspaper that believes that growth is still possible. - Jim S. We really appreciate you bringing on Betsy Russell and putting forth all efforts to provide the Valley with a comprehensive news team. Way to go and thank you! - Ceci T., Boise Love the changes/additions to the paper. The “Idaho Press” is rocking it. The style looks great. Love the new Boise stories. Keep up the great work. I’ll be a subscriber for a long time. - Kenton L. I’m really pleased to read about the expansions you’re undertaking. Now, with the full-out Ada coverage - not to mention the excellent addition of Betsy Russell - you’re going well beyond that. The results are showing up day by day - [Idaho Press] is developing the most solid hard news report in the state. - Randy S., Carlton, OR I was glad to see your announcements regarding the several additions and emphases for the IP. Congratulations, all. I have been an avid reader of newspapers, since being a ‘paper boy’ in rural Vermont. I read the local paper every day without fail, except in the time I was in the US Navy. I continue to believe that a local newspaper is the first line of defense of our Rights. - Jack T., Nampa Cheers and kudos to the Idaho Press for their recent bold decision to expand in the Treasure Valley. I continue to be impressed with the caliber of your journalists, and with their fair and impartial delivery of the news. Guest commentaries are always thought-provoking and editorials are informative and incisive. Thanks for giving us the opportunity to have a local newspaper to be proud of. Cheers to the Idaho Press for their aggressive moves. More reporters, more sections, expanded coverage are all great enhancements.
We are committed to providing high-quality local journalism Who will be Idaho’s next governor? What’s the future of development in Boise? Will Canyon County build a new jail? What are property values in the Treasure Valley? Who won the game last night? These are just some of the questions that the journalists of the Idaho Press are answering for our readers. We are committed to local news both online — and in print. We believe in the importance of knowing what your local government is doing. That’s why we now cover Boise City Hall, Nampa City Hall, Caldwell City Hall, Ada County commissioners and the Canyon County commissioners. We’re increasing our coverage, not shrinking it. We’re giving you more local news to read, not less of it. And we have the best legislative reporter in the state of Idaho, Betsy Russell. We’ve also brought back our local community section, led by veteran Boise journalist Jeanne Huff, who writes about the people and places of the Treasure Valley. She’s also brought back her popular Treasure Hunt column, and she has plans for more surprises to come. We also bring you the latest sports scores, all in one place, recognizing that you don’t want to go online to hunt down the scores for all of your favorite teams. They’re all right there in the sports section, even the late games. Do you miss having a real local newspaper? This is it. Finally. One newspaper covering local news. One newspaper — for the whole Treasure Valley. Local news worth holding.

Jeanne Huff knows a thing or two about the Treasure Valley.
The Idaho Press has the best Boise State sports coverage. Period.

Many locals will recognize Jeanne as the writer of the popular feature “Treasure Hunt,” in which Jeanne explored the unique and interesting people and places around the Treasure Valley and which Jeanne is reviving in the pages of the Idaho Press. With Jeanne’s guidance and direction, the Idaho Press is relaunching the third section of the paper, featuring a different theme each day, from Health and Homestyle to Money, Outdoors and A&E. We’re adding sections, not cutting back. Jeanne brings a flair and creativity to the paper and deep institutional knowledge of the people and places that make Treasure Valley such a fun place to live.
We’re not just saying that. Idaho Press Boise State beat writer B.J. Rains was named as the 2017 Idaho Sports Writer of the Year by the National Sports Media Association. Rains, a University of Kansas graduate, has covered Boise State athletics for the Idaho Press since coming to the paper from Fox Sports Midwest in 2013. In 2014, he was the driving force behind the launch of BlueTurfSports.com, home of the Idaho Press’ Boise State coverage, and has continued to build the site ever since. He is also a voter in the Associated Press Top 25 men’s college basketball poll. In 2017, Rains had several in-depth feature stories, including stories where he wrote about Boise State equipment manager Dale Holste, followed Boise State basketball coach Leon Rice on a summer recruiting trip in Las Vegas and chronicled the development of Bronco men’s basketball player Chandler Hutchison. He is the first Idaho Press sports writer to be honored by the NSMA since they stated awarding state winners in 1959.
Special sections focus on different interests throughout the year
Boise Weekly is now part of the Idaho Press
Throughout the year the Idaho Press and our weekly newspapers produce special sections filled with great local content produced by our team of local writers. These sections include the region’s most comprehensive high school and college football preview, complete with schedules and team rosters; and a great annual section called Cavalcade that has a different focus each year, from a look back at the changing face of the Treasure Valley to the Dirty Jobs that hardworking folks perform. We also celebrate our nation’s military veterans each year with a special edition taking a in-depth look at our heroes.
In August we announced the acquisition of Boise Weekly. The Boise Weekly offices act as the headquarters for our Boise Bureau reporters. We’re so excited that they are part of our news family, helping to fill that important arts and entertainment category to make the Idaho Press the most complete sources of news and information in the Treasure Valley. Starting in the fall, Boise Weekly will be included in the Idaho Press home delivery. Sally Freeman has remained on as the General Manager for the Boise Weekly, ensuring they remain a strong and independent voice in the community.
Idaho Press produces 36 special publications throughout the year, reaching more Treasure Valley residents than ever before. Some of our weekly publications produce an annual section with a look back and forward on the year in their communities. They include “Rural life in Gem County, produced by the Emmett Messenger Index, and “This is Kuna, produced by the Kuna Melba News. These publications address the growth that is going on in the communities and some of the plans for the future. In Meridian, the Meridian Press puts together “Momentum, which focuses on new projects moving into the area as well as population growth. We also work closely with the local rodeos and county fairs to print their programs to promote awareness of the events. In addition, we work with local chambers of commerce to produce yearly Visitors Guides. We hope you enjoy reading these great special sections as part of your subscription to the Idaho Press.
We also have a great mobile-friendly website where you can quickly and easily find news from our Treasure Valley newspapers and our Blue Turf Sports coverage, as well as a great community and events calendar.
