In 1948, George Phillips, the mayor of Pocatello passed “The Smile Ordinance” in an effort to lift the spirits of the people after severe winter weather. Pocatello has since been deemed the Smile Capital of the United States, and there’s plenty to smile about— adventure of all kinds is a short drive from campus.
join an Intramural Sports team, watch the games, and stay healthy and fit at the Reed Gym and Rec Center.
Join us in the ballroom for monthly bingo, or head to the Game Center for billiards, ping pong, bowling, and more.
Film buffs will love the Bengal Theater with nightly movies— free to all students with your Bengal ID.
And the creatives can learn new skills at The Craft center with pottery lessons, painting, and more.

Skiers and snowboarders have seemingly endless options—Pebble Creek, Sun Valley, Grand Targhee, Jackson Hole, and Snowbird are all within a 30 minute to 3-hour drive.
Explore Scout Mountain or the nearby Caribou and Sawtooth National Forests. Or venture to the Tetons and spend the day in Jackson Hole shopping, dining, and wildlife viewing.
Day trip to the climbing mecca City of Rocks for some of the best rock climbing in the northwest.
Spend warm days at American Falls Reservoir boating, skiing, jet skiing, fishing, or swimming—a short 20-minute drive from Pocatello.
Or float the South Fork or Henry’s Fork of the Snake River—two world-class flyfishing destinations within two hours of Pocatello.
