Says Lee, “For many years, we worked a one-acre test plot where we evaluated flavor profiles and cold heartiness of different grapes. Once we settled on the varietals, we began buying vines from New York state and planting in earnest in 2018. Today we offer six wines, including Le Marechal Foch Nouveau red, a fine Riesling white, and our Ruby Rose.”

If you are ever in Montrose vacationing, there are 27 holes of golf at the Cobble Creek community set against a beautiful stretch of the San Juan Mountains. Community residents have become regular customers of LaNoue Dubois, and plans for wine tastings at the community’s Tavern restaurant are in the works. Some residents have even volunteered to snip bunches of grapes and drop them in five-gallon buckets come harvest time next fall.

So, visit the Western Slope of Colorado for its unique wines, glorious landscapes, and mild arid climate. The 31st edition of the Colorado Mountain Winefest will be held this summer on Saturday, September 17. It will feature scores of winery tents, live music, chef demonstrations, educational seminars, and even grape-stomping contests. See you there, and don’t forget my 50¢!
