Hello everyone and welcome to the December issue of FAST LANE BIKER New York New Jersey. Winter is upon us again all though this upcoming week reports that the temperature will be in this sixties and sunny. That’s not the case as I type this article. We’re Looking forward to the International Motorcycle show at the Javitz Center this month. All though it’s not riding season it gives everyone a chance to check out what’s gonna’ be out for next riding season. On the list of big shows next up is the Timonium Maryland showing early February. This show always draws a record crowd and is very different then the New York show. They offer a lot of different things such as a swap meet, on stage events and other activities. So you if you can try to get out to both of them if possible. So till next time...

CATSKILL MOUNTAIN THUNDER MotoRcycle Festival

Blackthorne Resort in East Durham, New York • September 11th - 14th, 2014

I made my way to this terrific event from Long Island on Friday meeting friends Mike and Karen from Syracuse. I checked out the areas the RV camping area, The Outdoor Stage for Live Band entertainment, then went in and checked out the indoor entertainment area. It was cool and the weather was good. Trekking outside I made it to the infield where the vendors had set up. Already the vendor area was filled with the sounds of Live entertainment from a Catskill Mountain regular Just James, Extreme Sports bikers were flying into the air doing spins and other aerial feats. I stopped by Vintage Custom Cycles, OilCity Customs, saw Jack from Deadwood Cycles, Bob Nowak from Albany was up again with two of his bikes, that Custom Metallic Orange “113” and the modified ‘75 Red Sportster. Ron Finch attracted a lot of people with his highly customized bikes and had a line of attendees out of his tent. The Marine Corp League was represented and I stopped by their tent to chat with them. Thanked them for their service and moved on – there was a lot to do – The Woodstock Harley-Davison tent was a treat to see and was heavily attended. Just down the road is Fast Lane Biker

For:- Tiger • G.W.S.

the Motorcycle Museum and I always find something that interests me there. This time I was treated to a restored Vintage Oldsmobile packing 3 deuces under the hood, and a terrific interior – just like it came out of the showroom. There was an aged bike in the museum area and several of the attendees were assisting it getting it started – hopefully I’ll get a chance to see it next year if they restore it. Bikes were starting to roll in mass, still moving around in the vendor area a bike with a sidecar caught my eye, decked out in representative colors it looked like a John Deere tractor, stopped in to see the guys at SatanCycles, there’re always well represented here. It’s amazing to me watching all of the highly skilled artistic people here do things with color and metal and rubber that defies the rules of physics, the custom paint work and the bending of metal tubing and the enormous amount of chromium – it’s like being a kid in the candy shop – all looks great. It was getting towards sundown, and the group I was with Paula, Bob, Tiger, Karen, Steve, and Darlene were looking around for something to eat and getting ready for the live entertainment. head stopped by – he was just getting ready to go on in the indoor entertainment area. E.B. JEB went on outside and I remarked to Tiger that the Lead Vocal guy and Lead guitar guy looked familiar – he reminded me that they opened for Blackfoot in Gloversville a couple seasons back. E.B. JEB played on as the temperature started to drop, good thing that they have those huge warming devices stoked with lots of split firewood. E.B. JEB played for a long while then they turned over the reins to Marshall Tucker. DECEMBER, 2014

They were terrific. The crowd loved them. They played a lot of their hits that the crowd loved. The Jägermeister booth was open and there was even a gal on stilts coming around to serve - the merchandise booth was open and the bands played well into the night. The encore for the Marshall Tucker band brought the outside entertainment to an end but there were a host of things going on inside to entertain the attendees. Shovelhead, a Catskill Mountain Thunder tradition played again inside. 7

Saturday was cold with a bit of rain, the day started a little late but by the afternoon most things were back on track – unfortunately safety concerns did not allow for the aerial trick riders – burn outs were fine and they continued all day. Vendors were in the tented areas and attendees were going from tent to tent to see all of the vendor booths One of the riders was puddle jumping - running Fast Lane Biker

through some standing water – can’t discourage a hardened rider Made it around to the outdoor entertainment area as the weather turned a lot better, got a chance to meet up with Randy the guitar tech for Foghat, then went outside and awaited the fireworks. The fireworks lit up the sky as Shovelhead played inside and Dressed for the Occasion was next on board outside. The crowd loved them 8

and they really played well, I think this is their first time here – I’m hoping that they come back soon. They brought the bikes entered in the contest in and they were between the stage and the crowd for all to see - some great bikes – they said it was a 2 day build off – 2 days to get the bike show ready – wow some of the bikes were amazing. I’ll let the pictures tell that story. After Dressed for the Occasion Foghat came on – a terrific appearance – the band has played for a lot of DECEMBER, 2014

years and they just seemed to be getting better if that’s possible. Foghat played for a long time and then there were the bike contest awards. Winning bike was awesome. Again see the pictures. Dressed for the Occasion came back on and played till the cows came home. A terrific entertainment night but still there was more going on inside. A truly great event. Everyone thanked the crowds for their support and invited them back for bigger and better next year. I can’t wait

The Toy Run

That Look Winters Ride

A windshield would work He muttered to himself Ridin’ in this weather I’m gonna catch my death I must be a fool To try riding today But he hit another gear Beneath the sky of gray

It replenishes the soul Like a throttle opened wide Knowing that look in a child’s eyes Leather clad loyalty Biker dedication Kindling the warmth of a seasonal fire Youth’s imagination City streets glisten with steel and chrome The spirit of giving rides free Two wheeled tinsel assuring once more A gift ‘neath a hospital tree Smiling faces, waving hands Well wishing passerby’s Unable to see, it’s not about us It’s that look in a child’s eyes The true gift of a toy run Comes from a little ones heart That look in a child’s eyes Of which you have taken part © LP Scerri RSOA ™

Thought, it won’t be long Til’ I get to town The sting of the cold should subside Once I slow this bike down A slight ray of sunshine I’d sure like to see Even wearing the leather I can’t fight the freeze But it’ll be worth it he thought When a small child plays With the unwrapped toys Strapped on his bike today He knows when he gets there There will be tons of steel He’ll see alot of old friends A brotherhood he’ll feel

He’ll drop off the toy Joke around and have some fun Then when everyone’s gathered there They’ll ride the toy run © Bob “Bikerwolf” Bryant 2004 Road Scribes Of America ™ DECEMBER, 2014

Straight pipes blasting As cold winds howl Black ice forming Upon the ground Old man winters' Grip does tighten Frost bites hard As daylight darkens Morning breath thick Like smoke in the air Choke pulled out With double gloved hand Turn the key Twist the throttle In the wind Today and 'morrow © Sorez Road Scribes Of America ™

It's Christmas time but not all will celebrate There's homeless on the streets of every state Not thinking of presents under a tree But worried of when their next meal will be It could be you or I in these times we live Americans suffer while to other countries we give I'm a biker and help when I can To make hard times better for my fellow man Most people pass judgment on the homeless and I Judging our looks from only the outside Never caring to know the good we do Or the circumstances that made them homeless too Maybe lost their job and family or are mentally ill Home from the war and can't deal with how many they killed Can't find the ends to make them meet And now dinner from a garbage can on the street Alone with nobody to love and care They gave it all and now have no more to share I want you to know that this biker cares And for no other reason than to make you aware It's Christmas time but not all will celebrate Please pray they pray and that it's not to late © Lee Buddah Haverstick, Black Rose Poetry™, Road Scribes Of America ™
