Hello everyone and welcome to the May issue of FAST LANE BIKER. There are lots of events to check out throughout the Tri-State area this month. It would seem the riding season is in full swing a little early this year. That works for us, the sooner the better. Took some time out last month to hit some dealers and shops way upstate New York. It was good to get out there, meet new people and get different opinions on how to improve the magazine for their area . As the summer months go on, I’ll be hitting many areas that the magazine reaches, gaining new ideas.

climb & bike show 2015

story ridin’ and pics by Lutz

september 13, 2015 • bethlehem, pennsylvania

Every year for the last few years I so look forward to this event. The ride from Jersey to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania is a treat in itself, but even as the ride is very enjoyable, more fun awaits at the end. For many, many years Bushkill Motorcycle Club promotes the AMA pro hill climb much to the delight of many bikers that enjoy the uphill battle that has many motorcycles racing, all hoping to make it to the top for the win. Getting to the hill climb location is mobbed heavily with lots of bikes, all crowding down a 2 lane back road that seems like it takes forever to get to. Once at the end of the road, it never seems to amaze me how such a piece of land can hold so many bikes, and seeing the bikes blasting up the side of a mountain is always breathtaking! Once parked it’s time to go checkout the vendors, maybe get a bite to eat or grab something to drink. Hannums Harley Davidson has a stand set up showing some cool bikes and selling shirts. Of course where are here to see the hill climbs but there’s a lot more other things to do. Like I said the property is loaded with bikes of all types, again making my camera very happy! The bike show also has without a doubt a lot of eye candy in it too, metric and American, all different, all competing for that trophy! The racing continues through the day and the sea of people watching lets you know this is a popular run. So, if you really want to see motorcycles seemingly do the impossible... racing up a steep hill... this is the place... take a ride next year and check it out, you wont be disappointed! 15th Annual MTA Swap Meet & Military Vehicle Show by Momma Iz & Pit

Well, we set our clocks to Spring forward and I’m not sure how forward we were supposed to spring but im calling it too far. I haven’t complained all winter but finally a beautiful day and we just happen to have a Military Swap Meet and Vehicle Show sponsored by the Military Transport Association right here in our backyard at the Sussex County Fairgrounds. Lots of bike’s and biker’s in the parking lot, cause as we all know many biker’s are veteran’s. The vendor tents were endless, selling everything from survival food to camo hats. There were military vehicle’s to climb on, sit in, and explore. You were also allowed take photos next to the tanks, which were the coolest in my opinion. The Association setup museum type reenactments of what our soldier’s would live in, eat in, hide behind, and even pray in. I couldn’t help but feel, wow, what a special breed the men and women of our Armed Forces are that when called upon will protect the citizens of our great country. Support our active duty troop’s and veteran’s whenever possible, thank them for there service with a handshake and a smile and let them know you stand behind them 110%. Several of the clubs participated in a military truck pull, not sure of the winner’s but fun was had by all and the children enjoyed it. Plenty of good chow in the food court as evidenced by all the smile’s. It’s starting to feel like Spring is finally here to stay and hopefully the next forecast that calls for ice and salt is a margarita recipe. Safe riding, and remember “Which lane are you in”. Kiana Day has been cheerleading since age 7 and currently cheers with Shepherd University. In 2014, she competed in the small, all-girl division world championship in Orlando. Kiana also enjoys travel and has been to Hawaii, St. John, St. Martin, Bonaire, Aruba and Mexico. This is her first year as a model. This fall, Kiana plans to attend WVU where she will major in forensic science. Kiana is no stranger to motorcycles. Her father is employed as a motorcycle technician at Battley Cycles so Kiana learned all about riding at an early age. She loves to participate in Rolling Thunder and has done so since she was 8. If you’d like to see her cheer logo, you’ll find it custom painted on her helmet. Kiana is 18 years old and lives in West Virginia.

Hawg ridin fools m/c clam bake 2015

story ridin’ and pics by Lutz

july 18, 2015 • south jersey

One of the advantages of living in New Jersey is we have a great selection of seafood, living so close to the Atlantic ocean and a plus also is that south Jersey offers thousand of acres of pine lands with miles of open road riding running through it. One of my fav “ride to eat” events is put on by a great bunch of guys from south Jersey called the Hawg Ridin’ Fools M/C, who as I mentioned above, love riding those backroads and throwing great parties, and cooking up some great seafood like at their yearly much anticipated clam bake. The Hawg ridin’ fools pull out all the stops to cook up the best food that one can get at a bike run... burgers, dogs, salads, chicken, beans, but tons of clams are what is at the top of the menu at this one! Raw, half shell, steamed, tabasco or butter, your choice and plenty of them! In the past, since this is a July party its been hotter than hell but this year was perfect. That was noticeable by many clubs, friends and family, young and old coming out to get there share of good times. The property was packed with many a bike and a little tough to find a seat at the picnic table. It was the kinda day that many ate and stood around and talked with many a friend, good vibes at this party. As it got later on in the day and the clam shells piled up and many a belly full you looked around and saw many a smile on the Hawg Ridin’ fools members knowing their hard work paid off with another clam bake well done!

KNOW THE LAW T

his month I will give you a brief overview of some aspects of Pennsylvania’s Medical Marijuana Act, which in its final form passed the Pennsylvania House and Senate and was signed into law in seemingly record time. Here are some of the Act’s highlights. The Act makes Pennsylvania the 24th state to approve the use of medical marijuana. As with most laws, it takes what could be a pretty simple law to implement and makes it quite the bureaucratic beast. The Act authorizes the creation of Growers and Processors / Dispensaries, and allows various medical health care providers, each of whom must be specifically certified in medical marijuana, to issue prescriptions to a very limited category of patients / care givers. Furthermore, each patient / care giver must at all time possess a valid state issued ID Card allowing said patient to possess and use or, in the case of a care giver, possess and administer, medical marijuana. To be a patient you have to: (1) have a serious medical condition; (2) meet the requirements for certification; and (3) you have to be a Pennsylvania resident. The current qualifying serious medical conditions are: Cancer; AIDS; Amotrophic Lateral Sclerois; Parkinson’s Disease; Multiple Sclerosis; Epilepsy; Inflammatory Bowel Disease; Huntington’s Disease; Crohn’s Disease; PTSD; Intractable Seizures; Glaucoma; Sickle Cell Anemia; Autism; and a Terminally Ill Patient with a prognosis of a life expectancy of 1 year or less. By far and away, though, most people will probably qualify under one of the following categories: - damage to the nervous tissues of the spinal cord with objective neurological findings (such as a positive nerve conduction study) indicative of intractable spacticity; - severe chronic or intractable pain of neuropathic origin; or

BY ATTORNEY STEVE STAMBAUGH intervention and opiate therapy is contra-indicated or ineffective. The next thing you need to know is that dry leaf and/or plant forms of medical marijuana remain illegal. Patients can only take it in the following forms: pills, oils, liquids, gels, creams, ointments, tinctures and other forms that can be vaporized or nebulized but, again, excluding plant and/or leaf marijuana. You should also know that this law will take time to implement as the Growers / Processors must come into being and get approved by the State, and then, of course, they must grow the product and get it into the approved forms. It will also take time to get Dispensaries up and running, medical care providers certified, and patients / care givers issued their State ID Cards. Current estimates are 1½ to 2 years. Given the long delay to implementation, the law allows children to obtain compliant medical marijuana from out of state under certain conditions. On a completely different note, it is good to be back in the saddle again but remember that motorists are not used to seeing us out there so be extra careful this month. I also note the HillClimbs are back at the White Rose Motorcycle Club in York, with the kick off on June 5th. Also be sure to check out www.ychdoa.com and www. ndmpmf.com for Rides. I also promised my brothers at the American Legion Riders, Red Lion Post 543, that I would mention their Tech Sgt. Daniel Zerbe Ride on July 30th. Last, do not forget that ABATE’s Annual Motorcyclist Rights Rally is May 23rd at the State Capitol in Harrisburg. I am proud to be an ABATE Life Member and I take my choice not to wear a helmet very seriously. Like any “right”, the right to chose can be lost at any time so, if are not an ABATE Member, join and be counted. www.YCHDOA.com See you on the road
