BIKER New Jersey

ell, according to the calendar, Spring is here. As I look out the window I see about nine inches of snow on the deck and the news is saying another storm is moving our way tonight. I’ve really had enough of Winter and I’m ready for some nice weather. Although attendance was down at this year’s Daytona Bike Week, some say that the weather was just about perfect as it’s ever been except for that one day of rain that still ended early enough to get some riding in. A lot of the talk was about Myrtle Beach. Most are confused with reports from the city or the surrounding North and South Myrtle Beaches who would like to see the event continue. Still, no matter what, you have to go to through Myrtle Beach to get anywhere. Most of the vendors have decided not to make the trip this year due to the high cost of permits and a dwindling attendance since the anti-bike week campaign started a few years back. It’s a shame that a few elected officials can ruin a great event like this that’s been going on for years. So for those of you who would rather not travel to or go through the hassle of being harassed by the police in Myrtle Beach or just simply don’t want to go to a place where you’re not wanted... May 19th through the 22nd we will be hosting the first Annual Atlantic City Bike Week! The Atlantic City Convention Center will be the centerpiece of the event as far as entertainment, vendors and all of the other activities. After that its up to you to check out the rest of what the city has to offer like the nightlife, restaurants, casinos, the beach and the ocean. We are happy to be working with Show Boat and Ballys who worked up great stay and play packages. Rooms are available on the website www.acbikeweek.com. Check it out soon and book your room before they’re gone!! Till next time...

DAYTONA BIKE WEEK

Our 2011 tour season officially began at the 70th anniversary of Daytona Bike Week and we were knee deep in the middle of it. The week began rather inauspiciously as the crowds were thin. However by Wednesday the traffic was at a standstill. As most of you know we were located on US 1 at the Hang Dawg Saloon right across from the Iron Horse. The cops there are pretty cool and let us do whatever we wanted, that was until we had the bright idea to put some very hot girls dancing on fully functional strip pole mounted to the back of our Stripperglide. Well that caused quite the commotion. Cars, bikes and trucks were literally stopping in their tracks to take pictures and tip the scantaly clad hotties in their g-strings and bikini tops. One dude actually got off his bike and made it rain. In stripper lingo that’s when someone throws a big pile of money into the air and lets it rain down wherever it falls. This cat tossed about 100 one-dollar bills and the wind scattered them all over. Now we had pandemonium. The girls jumped off the Stripperglide scrabbling to collect the money, helpful bikers of course started running around to aid them, I mean who wouldn’t? The once cool cops had enough and were fearful that our brilliant marketing ploy was now a hazard and a crash was imminent so they had us back up behind the fence line. This wasn’t so great because the fence obscured the impromptu strip club atmosphere. So thinking quickly we simply took down the fence. Hey if you have the tools, use them right? Our stripper pole bikes always get attention but this was outrageous, but rest assured hot chicks actually dancing on our Stripperglide will become a permanent part of the SCC Roadhouse. Finally, we want to give a shout out to the Holiday Inn and Resort who put us up and hosted a two-day poster signing with all the bells and whistles. Definitely recommend staying there during bike week. Check out our new web site for new products, including our Charlie Sheen inspired bowling shirt and pictures. LEHIGH VALLEY MOTORCYCLE EXTRAVAGANZA Story & Photos by Alicia Helfrich (BBA)

Heads up! There’s a new Promoter in town, and their event rocked! “Motorcycle Extravaganza Inc.” promoted the Lehigh Valley Motorcycle Extravaganza held in Allentown at the Fairground’s Agricultural Hall on March 19-20th. They know how to put on a great show for the whole family. Their one of a kind motto “This show does not cancel for any reason” brought everyone out of hibernation for the weekend with 75 degree weather and plenty of sunshine (are they that good that they control the weather?), It sure seemed that way because the next day it snowed!!!!. I was thrilled to be part of a new tradition, as this show will be held twice a year! The hard work performed by the staff paid off, and shined. Excitement was found inside the 60,000 sq. ft. facility on nearly every hour on the hour. The crowd gathered as the tattoo contest got underway. The Body is certainly a canvas. You name a body part, and it was most likely covered in ink. From head to heels, and knuckles to knees the artwork displayed on these contestants was like no other. You needed an experienced, professional to judge this contest, and Motorcycle Extravaganza had just that person! The famous “Tattoo Tony” from New Jersey was eyeballing each original design as the competitors rolled up a sleeve or shirt. In addition to the attractive display of artwork, the winners were handed a beautiful, heavy, glass trophy statue. The statues were out of this world, and packed in their own special box. At one point the crowd started reminding the winners “don’t forget your box!” (You had to be there.) Ink was slinging at Tattoo Tony’s booth. Tony has left his mark on many celebrities. Check out his sites. www.undermyskintat2.com and www.tattootonyshardtea.com Let me talk about the many vendors, too numerous to mention that were at this show. They were all very friendly and helpful. If you couldn’t find something to bring home, it was your own fault. Did you find yourself saying “I should have bought it?” Maybe you won’t think twice next time. From leather goods and riding apparel, Attorney booths, new and used swap meet parts, to tin signs, t-shirts, toys, sunglasses, helmets and more, it was all here. You could have gotten a massage from my friend Bonnie. It wasn’t until late Sunday afternoon that she had an open spot for me, and man did I need it. There was so much to see and do in these 2 days I was a busy girl, and the massage felt great. Many people enjoyed getting their picture taken at the Fast Lane Biker PA magazine booth, while posing on a bike builder’s creation. You can walk away with your

photo on the cover of the magazine! The little kids loved it, and so did the big kids. Thank you, to the custom bike builders who rolled their cycles over to the booth for all this fun and excitement. The bike builders came from near and far. Penn Jersey Cycles, Keystone Choppers, Death Row Motorcycles, MCS Customs, JT Cycles, Brass Knuckle Cycles, Iron Hawg Custom Cycles, Jac’d Customs and Custom Auto & Cycle. Live music was heard both days from the Crabby Bums while door prizes and $400.00 in raffle gift certificates were drawn. Speaking of live music- we would like to thank the famous band “Cold” and “Oceans Divide” for their guest apperance and for joining Motorcycle Extravaganza at their Vendor Gathering for a night to remember!!! The bike show also drew some tough competition. It just blows my mind to see the love and dedication everyone puts into their rides. I know my bike gets that special attention. Again, the trophy statues handed to the bike show winners were a piece of art. Gorgeous Eagles with a wing span sat on top of an engraved base. These were presented along with first place money for each category. The Lehigh Valley Motorcycle Extravaganza is by far going to be a bi-annual event you don’t want to miss. I watched cars, trucks, cycles, and even a transportation bus full of guys pull into the free parking lots. Children under 12 years of age had a free admission. This show was sponsored by Rider Insurance and Fast Lane Biker PA Magazine. Special thanks to the Paper Shop for their combined Gift Certificate Giveaway and to Off the Wall, NJ for their fantastic looking trophies. To 99.9 the Hawk and 107 the Bone, Tattoo Tony and All the Models-Holly,Jenn, Trish,Heather & Amy. Motorcycle Extravaganza also donated A percentage of proceeds to P.A.N.D.A.S. research, and cans of food brought to the show benefited to Second Harvest Food Bank. Motorcycle events and riding season is upon us, and I say Amen! I don’t know about you, but I’m excited to know I already have a winter event marked on my calendar. The Lehigh Valley Motorcycle Extravaganza show will be held again at the Agricultural Hall, Allentown Fairgrounds in Pennsylvania December 10th & 11th so Mark your calendars. www.Mextrava.com Until then, look for me this summer. I love when our readers stop me and say hi! I’ll be everywhere. Will you? See You in the Fast Lane!

1-888-CYCLE-LAW . LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com As I enter into my twenty-first year of practice, I have begun to accept the new reality that it is more difficult, and takes longer, to settle claims in 2011 than it did in the 1990’s. Forgetting for a moment that most insurance companies have fewer adjusters handling more claims, the biggest changes I have witnessed are 1) an increase in the number of insurance policies that no longer contain uninsured or underinsured motorist benefits 2) the increased number of clients who no longer have any form of health insurance and 3) more vehicles are now carrying only the minimum insurance limits required by law.

is underinsured. The second portion of this equation is a bit more difficult. Where and how can you obtain health insurance, if you currently do not have any? There used to be program called Adult Basic which did provide a low cost health insurance option in Pennsylvania however, its future is uncertain due to current budget cutting. The other safety net has been Medicaid however, for the same budgetary reasons it is becoming more difficult to obtain this coverage either before or after an accident. Further adding insult to injury, if Medicaid, or some other public program, picks up the medical bills, in almost every circumstance, they will want some of their money back when the case resolves.

These issues seem to be related because prior to 1990, every motor vehicle policy was required to include uninsured and underinsured benefits, which could be used to pay for medical bills, if the injured party did not have health insurance and the responsible party did not have enough insurance to cover all of the damages caused. However, because uninsured/underinsured coverage is no longer required, it is rejected more than ever. Unfortunately, when this rejection is coupled with an injured victim without health insurance, the medical bills become a problem, because many drivers are carrying the minimum liability coverage required on their vehicles. As you can imagine, the combination of NO UM/UIM/Health Insurance is leading to more “insurance tragedies”, (what happens when a person with no uninsured/ underinsured coverage and no health benefits is injured by someone with minimal insurance coverage.)

Given the above, the easiest and cheapest way I know to avoid an “insurance tragedy” is to purchase as much un/ underinsurance coverage as you can afford. This coverage can act as de facto health insurance and be used to pay medical bills, or any other losses you may incur. The other option is to obtain some amount of medical benefits on your motorcycle policy. While this won’t do much if you end up with tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills, it will provide a low cost safety net if your bills are in the $5,000-$10,000 range. Finally, if you do find yourself involved in an accident and have no health insurance, immediately apply for public assistance through the hospital’s social services office as they are best prepared to help guide you through the application process. They also know that in most cases, this is the only way they may get paid and therefore have an incentive to help you get approved.

These “insurance tragedies” are something that I am now seeing more then ever before. Knowing the problem, the question becomes …. What can be done, without spending a kings ransom to protect ourselves from being the victim of an “insurance tragedy”?

I hope you find this information informative and if you would like additional information on this topic, or any other, I can always be reached at LeeGaber@cycleattorney.com or 1888-CYCLE-LAW (1-888-292-5352).

There is no simple answer. However, I recommend purchasing as much uninsured/underinsured coverage as you can afford, as this offers additional coverage if you don’t have health coverage and are injured by someone who
