The Evolution of
®
Seabase partnered with the best blank, resin and fibreglass suppliers on an in-house development and experimentation project that has resulted in the Quiver Seaflex® program. We’ve exhaustively tested our surfboards for maximum returns on weight vs. flex, and strength vs. weight. Result? The very highest quality, world-class, technical surfboards from Quiver® featuring tunable flex aka Seaflex® technology. “The best surfboards for sure…” Egor Harris Through every step of the process, from construction, materials used, to our shapes & processes, Seabase took the best features of
Quiver Surfboards still make PU boards but embrace the shift towards epoxy boards. We have developed six Q-Tech specifications which allow Quiver surfers to customise the materials built into the boards, giving them complete control to tune the feel of their board. new progressive shapes, refined our own models, modified new construction techniques and the result… Quiver®. Phil Hodge, Quiver’s shaper and a tech expert, summed up Quiver® by saying: “The clear difference is simply in the time spent on research and design for individual surfers. All of our boards are custom made, and decisions are made in design and material structure to best suit the surfer and his or her particular needs.” Quiver® is the current choice of top world-class surfers, including the best British & French riders. Legends, Gordy Fontaine, Josh Knowles, Mark ‘Egor’ Harris and Ben Bennett are blazing a trail across Europe, Indonesia and New Zealand scoring some of the best waves of their lives. Dee Ripoll and the graceful Grace Doyle are surfing around the world, tputting in incredible performances, as is Stephen Friedman who has just finished filming his extraordinary documentary “Chasing the Sun”. Watch the trailer here:
https://vimeo.com/180981848 Watch out for Amy Dyer and Mischa Maguire, both kicking off what promise to be terrific competitive careers. Details and further information can be found on our blog at www.quiversurfboards.eu InCide Information: US Blanks BLUE formula PU foam means stronger and lighter blanks. Their EPS inCide blanks, and a range of new stringer technology has elevated blanks to be an essential element in progressive board manufacturing. This carbon brain technology, along with parabolics (rail based stringers set in a parabolic arc) is central to the board’s performance. We combine these with the newest and latest epoxy resins. We worked intensely with US Blanks to develop parabolic stringers into rockers for custom surfboards that elevate performance. All of our parabolics are based on highly specific rocker and wood combinations that work insanely well, meaning breakages are greatly reduced. Images of a Quiver carbon parabolic being bounced on upside down on Youtube went viral and cemented our reputation for producing boards that just don’t break. A test board made five years ago, which we challenged surfers in France to break in any surf, is still in one piece today. Parabolics are light, tough and surf amazingly well. One of the major factors that our riders comment on is that Quiver boards don’t lose their feel - unlike conventional boards they stay lively and highly reactive for years, not weeks. Only Ever Hand Shaped All our boards are custom shapes, unlike many other production brands in the world who use parabolics and carbon rails. We use Resin Research’s epoxies, the epitome of hi-tech resins. RR Kwik-Kick ultra epoxy, in terms of safety and usability, is streets ahead of any other system: no solvents, quicker than polyester resin, safe, tough, flexible and therefore perfect for performance. “Resin Research epoxy has close to 50% renewable resource bio products within its nontoxic chemical structure. Where else can you find that in surfing?”
www.quiversurfboards.eu
1
We do not mass-produce our boards. We create the accuracy we need using a modified early DSD machine for the initial cut. Our shaping machine, is incredibly accurate and efficient and specifically made to handle parabolics, different stringers and foam configurations. Some of the boards being used by our team are made with a special resin we have been working on for some time, a modified version of ISO7X, called ISO10 XS. We use cutting edge tech to make our boards. Resin Research epoxy has close to 50% renewable products within its non-toxic chemical structure. Where else can you find that in surfing? We use a unique glassing technique that is, to our knowledge, not used by any other manufacturer. The difference? A stronger board, faster down the line and far faster rail to rail responses, all direct and controllable. Flex = Seaflex® Current thinking says you need flex for performance, and many board makers wanted it as a panacea to breakage. Just as a plane wing needs to flex somewhat - it would break otherwise - it is also true that too much flex is wasted energy. A board needs to “load-up” and release. Flex can, however, be used in re-directing energy into performance; for us the key to that was in parabolics with their very different torsion flex patterns. Quiver Seaflex® boards don’t break. The first things our team riders notice are speed, weight and increased control. A good bottom turn loads the board with energy, as does a wellexecuted cutback. When it comes to releasing this energy, a Seaflex board will often react far faster than a good surfer. Just as Boeings resorted to carbon fibre and epoxy in its Dreamliner to save energy by lighter, less wasteful manufacturing techniques, we too have used these materials to produce lighter,

QUIVER BOARD RANGE 2017
Every Quiver surfboard is hand shaped or hand finished – custom made. stiffer, faster reacting surfboards, which extended riders abilities by reducing wasted energy and redirecting it into speed. Design added the rest, resisting points of hang-up and easing transitions. All of this tech is delivered by Phil Hodge who is widely considered one of the best shapers of our generation. We learnt that we could make stronger, lighter boards, and let the design and shaping do the rest. We looked at the types of
Quiver Surfboards are Faster, Whiter, Lighter and Stronger. wood in the stringers, at how to use carbon fibre to increase strength and decrease weight, and how we could tune the flex using both stringers and different glassing techniques. We experimented with tunable carbon rods - twinned either side of the stringer or without a stringer. The result of this research was Seaflex® - our parabolic flex technology.

QUIVER BOARD RANGE 2017
We have the lead on technology in custom boards. The 2 kg (or less) parabolic boards are very light and very strong, and we are continually experimenting with hollow carbon stringers tuned to offer flex at different board points. Too much stiffness can be counterproductive. It’s all in the balance, which is why we use unidirectional carbon on the rails, but only in combination with balsa parabolic stringers and unique glass patterning. Others use just carbon. Parabolics add a totally new feel – they are, for us, the best part of the Quiver design.
fact that our local production process saves huge carbon miles, and we have the greenest surfboards currently offered for sale. How Long? We have a waiting list, but 4 weeks should be long enough to get your board to you. Where?

Polyurethane Range
Each board in the Quiver range is available in a choice of construction from single stringer PU to EPS Epoxy parabolic with Carbon rails to produce the perfect customised quiver of boards. Which construction is right for you? Single Stringer PU: The classic construction of polyurethane foam and polyester resin which has worked well the best surfers for over 50 years. Quiver® only uses first quality US Blanks with their new formula foam which is lighter, whiter and substantially stronger than other foams on the market. The blank is machine shaped on a computer milling machine which cuts the blank to mm accuracy utilising designs from the world’s best shapers, and hand finished by our team. The board is laminated using fibreglass offset in a
8
QUIVER BOARD RANGE 2017
unique pattern to produce maximum strength to flex properties. PU Parabolic: The Parabolic surfboard offers the rider different flex and return of flex than that of a conventional single stringer board. The stringers are located just in from the rails of the board, which allows the board to flex lengthwise in a torsional motion. This result is a quick, highly responsive board that accelerates out of and into turns as it releases loaded flex far more quickly and efficiently than conventional surfboards. Don’t believe that? Try it....
EPS Epoxy Range EPS Epoxy produces a lighter, slightly more buoyant surfboard. This means we can create boards with the weight of a team board, and with more strength and durability than a normal board. Out team boards can weigh 4 lbs (1.8 kgs) or less. We recommend EPS blanks with parabolic stringers, though some models work best in other configurations. Our advice? Ask Phil! The beauty of Epoxy Resin is it is ideal for tuning flex, it is tougher and safer to use, and has the added bonus of reduced issues in manufacturing. It is virtually solvent free, meaning manufacturing is quicker, safer and makes faster and stronger curing surfboards. The superfused EPS (we do not use XEPS or XPS
foam) blank is machine shaped on a modified computer milling machine which cuts the blank to mm accuracy. A cutting head is used which has been specially designed to cope with parabolic stringers without distorting the core or melting the foam. Designs are from the world’s best shapers and all surfboards are hand finished in-house at Seabase. The board is laminated using Resin Research epoxy resin combined with fibreglass offset in a unique engineered pattern to produce maximum strength to flex properties.
EPS Epoxy is fast becoming more and more popular with competitive surfers with most pro surfers having EPS boards in their quiver.
www.quiversurfboards.eu
9
EPS Epoxy Carbon Rail Parabolic Range The blank is machine-shaped on a computer milling machine which cuts the blank to mm accuracy. The cutting head used has been specially designed and modified to cope with parabolic stringers without distorting the core. Unidirectional carbon is laminated along the rails of the board bonding with the balsa stringers top and bottom. Experimentation has shown us the integrity and flex of a board is maintained using stringers, rather than using carbon alone. Unique, too, is our use of hi-modulus (purer) unidirectional or biased carbon fibre, increasing strength and decreasing weight. We chose balsa for its excellent “springiness” and amazing
10
QUIVER BOARD RANGE 2017
longitudinal qualities. Its fibrous nature suits our production techniques perfectly. The board is laminated using Resin Research epoxy resin combined with fibreglass offset in our own production model to produce maximum strength to flex properties.
Aesthetically and technically Quiver ® Seaflex ® surfboards stand out, and have the undeniable bonus of unreal performance.

The Easy-Rider. If you have only 1 board in your Quiver, this is the one you want. Our all rounder. Has a nicely balanced rocker with good volume throughout and enough foam for easy paddling. The pin tail makes it very easy to manoeuvre and turn. Goes well in anything from 1-6ft surf.
