ime flies…literally! Summer is coming to an end and we didn’t enjoy it! Ugh…
Stuck with Ramadan summers is getting on my nerves and I have had it! I want to enjoy them separately; enjoy the fun of Ramadans with family in a comfortable entourage (not those iftar and sohoor showoffs) and have my summers at the beach in shorts, a bikini and a pina colada! I am tired of being deprived of food and drink. I am sick of spending summer in the city! Ufff… As our ousted (God really thank you) president, used to say, SUMMER AND RAMADAN DON’T MIX!!! Anyway, Ramadan is finally coming to an end and we can enjoy summer in its last 30 days ! We squeezed in everything you could do to pump them up for you. Whatever you think of is available. A rocking summer issue! Don’t forget to check out our Springfield shoot as well. You don’t need to think…just follow our schedule and enjoy to the fullest !

WHAT IS YOUR
Passion? By: Marwa Rakha - Relationship Expert
Dear Marwa,
I’m an independent person and always have been. I never felt the obsessive need to fall in love or have a relationship. I date and I put myself out there but I just can’t seem to take it further; partly because of incompatibility and the other part is that I enjoy being single. I’m still young and feel that I should experience everything out there before committing to a steady relationship. I never dated anyone who made me feel that I would handle the “price tag” of being in a relationship. Am I being realistic about it or just too picky? Am I heading towards a path of absolute independence or harsh loneliness?
A Bachelorette Dear Bachelorette,
Relationships are overrated! Love is overrated! All those romantic novels and movies filled our heads with ideas that do not necessarily belong there. Some people have an innate need for being with someone, belonging to that someone, and starting a family with that same someone. Others have an innate need for trying the different tastes of love that life has to offer; they enjoy human beings the way you would enjoy a box of assorted chocolates. Then there are those other people who do not need to get married or to have kids; in fact, if they do they make horrible partners and parents. Those people might just enjoy dating or might 14
IDENTITYAUGUST 2013
have a true passion for the other things bachelorhood would offer. If you do not feel that you need to be in a relationship or if you do not think a relationship is worth its “price tag”, then why do you torture yourself with dating disappointments? If you do not need it do not seek it! Maybe at this stage in your life you are destined to do other things that have nothing to do with the heart! Maybe there are windows of opportunities all around you to explore and experience the richness of life! Maybe if you were born in another society – a society that has no problem with people staying single until they die – you would not feel pressured to date and to put yourself out there against your inner voice. Dear Bachelorette, what is your passion? I want you to find the answer and then pursue that passion until you are done and when you are done, discover another passion and explore it to the fullest! Please don’t introduce yourself to misery and a sense of faultiness when there is absolutely nothing wrong with you. Do not waste the precious energy of life on trying to fit in and do what other girls are doing. There is a delicious feeling of completeness that only the ones who are true to themselves get the opportunity to experience. Those who are busy trying to comply lose their souls in the process. The harshest kind of loneliness is when a person loses their inner compass and end up orbiting in someone else’s sphere. You are truly alone when you are a wife and a mother and your heart longs to be in another world doing something totally different. My advice to you is: stay true to yourself!

HOW TO PLAN
A TRIP AS A
Couple
By: May El Kadi
Plan together
Choose a location that you’re both mutually interested in. Make sure that there are things to do for both of you. Not all boys like shopping and not all girls are interested in going to stadiums. So to avoid one of you getting bored or feeling annoyed, plan the trip together.
Pack light
Over packing is what leads to stressful travelling. Even if you don’t want to be wearing the same thing everyday you’ll just have to get creative with your outfits. Mix and match to create a new outfit every day.
20
IDENTITYAUGUST 2013
One-on-one
If you want to have a more intimate trip with your boyfriend -no distractions and no one to keep you away from him- a one-onone trip is recommended. Traveling with your guy’s buddies will only work to keep you apart and we all know that just won’t do!
Near location
Don’t be extreme
Taking your boyfriend camping whether it’s in the desert or on the beach isn’t a good idea for your first trip together. You won’t know what to expect when it comes to the weather, the food or the facilities. And not to mention how disastrous it can be for your skin and hair.
Try finding a location with little travel time as long plane rides or having to catch more than one flight can be very stressful for a new couple. Save the 20-hour flight to Thailand for your third anniversary trip. For new couples, we recommend going somewhere with little travel time. The more flights you have to catch, the more pressure on your trip.

SUMMER FLINGS:
Make Them Last!
DAY
By: Ahmed Hassan
8
THE TITLE JUST SCREAMS FOR A “GREASE” REFERENCE SO HERE IT GOES: JUST AS THE JOHN TRAVOLTA AND OLIVIA NEWTON-JOHN GREASE ROMANCE, SOME FLINGS TURN INTO LOVE STORIES WHILE IT MIGHT NOT TAKE SINGING AND DANCING TO CEMENT A RELATIONSHIP STATUS (DISAPPOINTING, I KNOW.), THERE ARE SEVERAL THINGS YOU CAN DO TO TAKE YOUR SUMMER LOVIN’ A STEP FURTHER. IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU’RE NOT READY TO BID YOUR FLING ADIEU, HERE ARE A FEW WAYS TO DEVELOP YOUR TEMPORARY ATTRACTION TO HOT DATING OR EVEN A FULL-FLEDGED RELATIONSHIP!
Be Realistic:
most flings tend to be nothing more than just that. Accepting the fact that he/she might not want anything more than a fling will greatly help you deal with the situation. Don’t weep though; your experience will leave you with beautiful memories. Cherish them!
Test Your Attraction:
Summer heat, glowing sweaty skin and a rockin’ body all contribute to animalistic attraction that you can confuse for more than just lust. Try to find if you actually enjoy more than lip-locking and have similar interests.
Date: Take the romance
to dry land and go on a date. Somewhere you both can have a conversation and enjoy each other’s company with no distractions. This will help you explore the person more, rather than explore their bodies.
Spell It Out:
Some people try to manipulate the fling into a relationship and get disappointed if the feelings are not mutual. Avoid that and be honest about wanting to see him/her again.
Meet The Friends:
Introduce him/her to your best friends and hang out together. If both parties click and feel comfortable with one another, it will greatly increase your chances of going steady.
Accept Change:
Seasons change and so will feelings. When you’re on vacation, you are more relaxed, open and high on the increased serotonin levels from the sun rays. Back to the city, these feelings will change and might affect your fling negatively. Don’t give up on it because it ‘feels’ different, try to work it out and look at your fling as a partner rather than a ‘fun toy’.
Travel
Together:
Spending a couple of hours together is nothing like spending two or three days face to face. Not only will this be a great indication of how well you mesh together, but it will also help take the relationship to the next step. If you don’t spend all the time in awkward silence or arguing about what to do, then you’re good to go! IDENTITY AUGUST 2013

9 IN THE CITY
HAVING TO STAY IN THE CITY DURING SUMMER SUCKS, WE KNOW! BUT THAT DOESN’T MEAN YOU CAN’T STILL ENJOY THE HEAT. DON’T JUST SIT AROUND AND CRY ABOUT IT, INSTEAD, FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO HELP YOU FORGET ABOUT THE BEACH.
Do something you’ve wanted to do for a while but didn’t have time for it. You can re-decorate your room for example, maybe paint the walls and just change the setup. Change is always good.
You know that novel you’ve wanted to read for a while? Maybe it’s time to finally finish it. 22

No matter what happens, no matter where you are, just KEEP away from any Social Network!!! Facebook, Twitter and Instagram will only upset you and make you feel left out. Trust me, you don’t want to see your friends on the beach playing volley with their hot partners, or read a status update on how much they are enjoying their summer and stuff! Explore the places you haven’t explored yet in the city. Even if you already did, a second trip to the pyramids will still be fun! You can learn things about Egypt that you never knew before.
If you have some friends or work colleagues stuck in the city too, invite them over for a movie night. Make sure to have plenty of popcorn, drinks and snacks. When the movie is over, you could play some board games to end a perfect evening.
Have a day use somewhere in the city where you can enjoy the sun, the pool and some cold cocktails in this heat. It’s okay if all your friends are traveling and you’re stuck alone in the city, you can still enjoy a day without them just listening to music and have some quality time with yourself.
Why don’t you spend a full day of just pampering yourself? Take the day to get a massage, manicure/pedicure, facial treatments, scrubs…
to do NOT THIS SUMMER!
IDENTITY’S TIPS
WHAT
By: Sandra Rizk
DON’T go shopping!
DON’T sleep in until 2 pm!
Why sleep when you can enjoy a day on the beach with your friends or even alone. You will have plenty of time to sleep when you’re back in town.
Instead of going shopping, why don’t you release the inner artist inside of you and create your own clothing items. Add some lace fabric to your old denim shorts, or sew some studs to your plain white dress. Not only will you look good, it will also give you this proud feeling that you created something yourself.
DON’T obsess about your body!
DON’T obsess about politics!
Finally, our Ikhwan buddies are gone. So what’s there to worry about?
You missed your chance, you didn’t lose weight, and you didn’t get these six packs you’ve been dreaming about, so what?! Stop obsessing about it and just enjoy your summer. Maybe this year isn’t the year you’re supposed to meet your soul mate, right?
DON’T settle for someone!
There is something magical about the summer that seems to inspire those “summer romances.” However, I recommend people to date around rather than settling down for one person, unless you’ve been dating already before summer.
DON’T stay at a hotel!
Instead of booking a room at a hotel, rent a beach house with your friends. Staying with your friends at a house alone will create so many fun memories that you will remember forever.
DON’T go to the movies!
I do not expect anyone to spend most of their time this summer at the movies. I do not see how that is fun when you can possibly go out to do something more entertaining and worthwhile. If you really want to, you could invite some friends over and watch a movie, followed by karaoke and some fun games.
DON’T turn into a baby elephant!
There’s a lot of food – junk and otherwise – around over the summer season. Just be aware of how much you’re eating and take note if you suddenly cannot close the zip of your jeans. IDENTITY AUGUST 2013

FairyGONE tale

IDENTITYAUGUST 2013
very girl dreams of her wedding day and her prince charming ever since she, well, started talking. She starts watching fairy tales cartoons hoping that one day, she will be that princess who gets to run away with her handsome prince charming to a land far far away! She starts picturing her life when she finds him and how perfect it will be. Then one day, she suddenly forgets about her prince charming, and only focuses on her fairy tale wedding. And that’s when everything goes wrong. Love isn’t easy to find, you might be lucky enough to find your other half without looking
parents? Can you trust him? Is he good to his mother? Is he loyal? Can you communicate together? Is he responsible? Is he marrying you for your personality? Do you fight a lot? Can he be the father of your children? Can you depend on him? Is he willing to fight for you? Is he mature enough to handle a home? Is he independent? And many more questions. Not thinking it through can lead to early breakups and divorces. Now here’s my advice to all the girls out there. Do not get married because you want to leave your parents’ house. Do not get married because all your girlfriends are getting married except you. Do not get married because you want to have a house of your own. Do not get married because you want children. Do not get married because you want to jump into

You get to really know and understand the person you’re with, get to know your differences, and get to find out whether you can tolerate these differences and bare his flaws or not. Getting to know your partner before getting involved in something serious is really important to your long term relationship. Never underestimate the power of dating your partner for a long, long time.

Do not get married because you think you’re getting older. Do not get married because your boyfriend wants to. Do not get married because you think you’re financially ready. Do not get married because he’s traveling abroad for a while and you want to go with him. Do not get married because you live far away from each other and living together will make it easier.
Lately, I’ve been getting vibes from girls around me that they all just want to get married. They literally use the words “I want to get married” more than “I want to find someone good for me”! Marriage is not about getting out of your parents’ house or getting all the attention on your wedding day, it is much more special when you want to get married because you can’t live without him anymore, and your wedding day is about sharing and celebrating your new life together.
Bottom line is, do not get married unless you are head over heels for him, and he’s crazy about you as well. He is the first thing you want to see in the morning when you wake up and the last thing at night. You want to share with him everything you do and know what’s happening in his life. You want to be there for him whenever he needs you right away. You want to have children just because he will be their father and they will be a part of him. You never get bored of being around him and you think of him as your best friend.
A strong commitment like marriage requires a lot of thinking before taking this step; is he good to you? Is he good to your family? Does your family like him? Can you deal with his

gyptians love gossip. If I could just end the article right here, I would. It says it all! We do love to talk. Let me just clarify this a little; there are some who talk just for the sake of pure entertainment, others take it as serious as Judge Judy’s face and treat it as crucial information, and finally -the worst kind of gossip- the ones exchanged for a purpose of harming a person.
I’m not going to discuss whether gossip is bad or wrong or whatever. I would like to take it from a different angle. What if you were the person being talked about? Generally speaking, people don’t like it when others talk about them (unless you’re a Kardashian, then you need to be studied), yet they are more than willing to talk about people’s business and act as holy judges for those in question. That
28
IDENTITYAUGUST 2013
in turn takes a negative toll on the person being talked about. It makes you question everything and everyone surrounding you. It eats away at your ability to trust and open up to people. Imagine being a celebrity, talked about and judged all the time for every action, when we watch celebrities on TV whining about how they really just want some privacy, we instantly feel like saying “Bi**h please! You’re famous. Deal with it!” What we don’t consider is the state of being constantly talked about and having your personal life out there for everyone to dissect. Can you imagine going through a break up and having everyone discuss whether you deserve better or not or if it was your fault?! That being said, there are those who take it a step further. They create “public scrutiny” in their own heads! Yes. They think everyone is talking about them and what they do and start acting accordingly;
“People are just curious about how others live their lives.”
poor souls, suffering from “Faux-Celebrity syndrome”. The question here is who cares?! Probably no one and neither should you! It’s no way to live your life if every step will be measured out of fearing what people might/might not say. Your life, your actions, your mistakes and it’s no one’s business! People are just curious about how others live their lives. It gives them a way to measure up their own life to someone else’s. The invasion of social networks really gave that a boost; scrolling through our newsfeed to see who did what and the latest happenings. For the most part it’s just to be updated but then there are those profiles we only visit to confirm or refute something we overheard. Not to mention discuss summer profile pictures and who made it to the hot list and who should get a butt lift! Recent research shows that social media users tend to overestimate other people’s happiness. It’s natural since you would much rather share and post a happy story or a picture of you than a sad one.
I remember a scene in Pretty Woman where Julia Roberts says to Richard Gere “The bad stuff is easier to believe. You ever notice that?” I always found that line to be very real and very interesting. The most scandalous and sensational stories are usually the bad ones. They shock people and make them feel better about themselves and their lives. It allows them to pity those they once envied and break that differentiating barrier that they created out of jealousy. People talk. I even just sort of talked about someone through this article. See, its effect is contagious! Once we admit to that fact, many things fall into place. You won’t sweat it as much if people talk about you. After all, image is nothing but an illusion for you to control but it shouldn’t be a daily struggle either. Just try to keep the dramatic break downs private; no one wants to see those (we just want to hear about them).

Hair TREATMENTS FOR… ALL TYPES OF HAIR
Eggs are considered one of the best treatments for all types of hair. The yolk is naturally moisturizing, while the white removes unwanted oils from your hair. For normal hair you should use the whole egg to condition, for oily hair only use the egg whites and for dry hair use the egg yolks. FRIZZY CURLY AND WAVY HAIR
u
DULL HAIR
Dairy products like sour cream and plain yogurt can help reverse the damage of styling products. Fill ½ a cup with sour cream or plain yogurt, massage it into damp hair and let it sit for 20 minutes. To rinse use warm water and then cold water and shampoo your hair like you normally would. OILY OR GREASY HAIR
u
One of the cheapest ways to treat oily or greasy hair is by adding cornmeal to your hair. Use 1 Tbsp. of cornmeal and pour into a salt and pepper shaker and sprinkle it into your hair until there’s nothing left over. After 10 minutes use a hairbrush to brush the cornmeal out.

Keratin is a protein that is recommended for frizzy curl or wavy hair. If you naturally have frizzy hair and style your hair straight, a keratin treatment saves you 40% to 60% time to blow-dry. You can forget about your frizzy hair after the treatment. Even if you get it wet whether it’s in the shower or in the rain it won’t change. So instead of using a flat-iron every 2 days which will eventually end with the breakage of your hair you should consider a Keratin treatment.
DRY OR SUNDAMAGED HAIR
Whatever the reason is for your dehydrated and damaged hair, honey is the solution. Massage ½ a cup of honey into clean and damp hair. Let it sit for 20 minutes and then rinse it out with warm water. Treatment can be applied once a month. Redken Satinwear O2 Ultimate Blowdry Lotion: Protective heatstyling lotion helps reduce friction and breakage for a faster, easier, stressfree blow dry.

IDENTITY’S SHAPE UP
BASICS 21 OF NUTRITION
DAY
By: Aly Mazhar- Founder & Instructor of Be Fit Egypt - Certified Sports Conditioning Trainer and Nutritionist
IN ORDER TO ACHIEVE THE MAXIMUM BENEFITS OF YOUR TRAINING PROGRAM, A PROPER NUTRITION PLAN IS A MUST. WE HAVE ALL HEARD THE FAMOUS SAYING THAT THE RESULTS ARE BASED 70% ON YOUR DIET AND 30% ON YOUR WORKOUT. TO CLARIFY, TO DIET DOES NOT MEAN STARVATION OR DEPRIVING YOURSELF OF FOOD. IT ACTUALLY MEANS THE EXACT OPPOSITE. THINK OF YOUR BODY AS A MACHINE, IN ORDER FOR IT TO FULLY FUNCTION IT NEEDS FUEL. IN THE CASE OF YOUR BODY, FOOD IS YOUR FUEL, WITHOUT IT, YOUR BODY CANNOT BURN OR PRODUCE SUFFICIENT ENERGY TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS. ONCE YOU STOP EATING, YOUR BODY REACTS BY ENTERING STARVATION MODE, STORING ALL THE FAT AND SLOWING DOWN YOUR METABOLISM IN FEAR OF NOT BEING GIVEN MORE FOOD. want to lose weight then a caloric deficit needs to be created so you need to consume around 2000 calories. On the other hand, if you want to gain weight you need to consume 3000 calories. Your caloric intake should be broken down into 50% carbohydrates, 30% protein and 20% fats. So if you’re eating 2000 calories, you should eat 1000 calories from carbs, 600 from protein and 400 from fats. Let’s briefly describe what those macronutrients are and the roles they play in your daily life.
We all dream about having that ripped core with a super defined six pack, guess what without proper nutrition, this will continue to be a dream. For guys, you need to have a 10% body fat to see that six pack and for girls it’s around 15%. The first stage of structuring your nutrition plan is to know your Basal Metabolic Rate, BMR, which is the amount of energy expended while at rest in a neutrally temperate environment. Obviously, this amount of caloric expenditure is highly correlated to your body composition (the more muscle you have the higher your caloric expenditure), your activity level, your age etc… For example if your BMR is 2000 calories and you burn 500 calories while training, then if you consume 2500 calories, you will maintain your body weight. If you 50
IDENTITYAUGUST 2013
Carbohydrates: they are the main source of energy for our bodies. They are the fuel we need to get through the day. Carbohydrates have a really bad reputation and some people think eating carbs would make them fat. Surprisingly, it is the exact opposite. Carbohydrates are tricky, you need to consume the exact amount of carbohydrates needed to produce the energy for your workouts and replenish the drained glycogen stores in the muscles post workout. However, eating a bowl of pasta before going to bed will most definitely result in weight gain, seeing as those are the kind of carbohydrates you do not want. They’re not going anywhere overnight. There are two types of carbs; simple and complex. Complex carbs like oatmeal, brown rice, brown pasta, whole wheat bread, all bran cereal, boiled potatoes and sweet potatoes are the best sources of fuel for your muscles. Most of your carbs should come from these sources, they provide a sustainable source of energy during your workouts and they replenish glycogen stores post workout. Simple carbs such as fruits, honey, raisins and anything sweet is not necessarily bad
for you but should be consumed in limited quantities and preferably throughout the first half of your day. Having fruits before bed is NOT OKAY !! Even though they are zero fat, they are still packed with sugar which increases your fat storage process during your sleep. The best time to consume simple carbs is right after you finish your workout as they spike your insulin level and therefore start the recovery process.
Now that we have gone through some basic understanding of nutrition, I will give you an example of what works best for me. I’m 92 kgs, I have around 50 kgs of muscles and 7.3 kgs of fat so a little less than 8% body fat. My BMR is 2200 calories and my workout usually ranges between 800-1200 calories. So my daily caloric intake is around 3000-3400 calories give or take.
In order to achieve that, a strict nutrition plan is required especially in the early stages. Remember you are teaching your body to do a lot of things differently. You’re getting the machine up and running in ways it may not have been exposed to before. Your body will soon be capable of doing things you never thought possible.
Preworkout meal (7:00 am) – coffee with skim milk, a banana or an apple and a protein shake or 2 yogurts Breakfast (10:00 am) – oatmeal with skim milk and honey and 5 eggs (4 whites and one whole) OR brown Panini with tuna Lunch (1:00 pm) – turkey breast, grilled chicken with rice, pasta or potatoes Snack – salmon or tuna salad or a protein shake, a fruit and a handful of nuts Dinner (7:00 pm) – cottage cheese with tomatoes and brown toast Snack (10:00 pm) – protein shake or 2 yogurts
The second component of your diet is protein. Protein is the building block of the muscles. If you want to gain more muscle, look toned, turn your fat into muscles, it cannot be done without watching closely your protein intake every single day. You roughly need 2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight to build new muscles. So for a person who weighs 80 kgs, 160 grams of protein are needed every single day. Protein sources are chicken, fish, turkey breasts, milk, cottage cheese, yogurt, tuna, nuts, whey etc…
The final component of your diet is fats. Fats are NOT BAD ! This is a very wide misconception. Fats are actually really good for you but those are the nonsaturated or mono-saturated fats found in olive oil, avocados, nuts and so on. Obviously the other type of fat which is the saturated fat found in beef, fries, oil, desserts etc.. is really bad for you. Eating the good fats helps you lose weight in addition to many other health benefits. It encourages your body to get rid of all the fat stored underneath your skin. Finally make sure you stay hydrated by drinking between 4-6 liters of water per day. This is crucial to keep your metabolism up, to ensure maximum fat burning, to facilitate the transportation of nutrients through the blood to all cells and finally to help kick all the waste out of your system.
If you workout in the evening, all you need to do is reshuffle the pre-workout meal before your training. Having said all that, attaining the body you’ve always dreamed of depends and relies on so many factors. Like everything else in life, there’s always a price to pay, it all comes down to you. The price of success is determination, commitment, consistency and hard work. Nothing comes easy, if you want something badly you’ve got to go get it and forget all the excuses that hold you back. Set your goal, commit to it and allow nothing in the whole world to keep you from reaching it. Being fit and healthy isn’t a trend; you’re not just following your friends to the gym or club. You’re not just getting a membership in April so that you can walk on the beach in July with a six pack. I promise you it is never going to happen. It is a lifestyle, it’s a way of life, it takes much more than that. You will come to the point where you are going to realize that your body is just a byproduct. Train hard, eat well, take care of your body because it’s the only one you have and you will end up looking exactly the way you want. So the choice is yours, you can either commit, decide that you want to do it or otherwise all the time you’re spending is just a complete waste including the 10 minutes you spent reading that article. If you’re tired of starting over, you better stop giving up in the first place. IDENTITY AUGUST 2013
