anuary… the mark of new beginnings, is a month full of joy. We are happy the last year ended with all its goods and bads. We are optimistic about the year ahead even if we had a bad one that just ended. Suddenly, we feel unidentified energy and courage to face the year ahead. January gives us hope we can accomplish all our failed dreams; maybe this year we’ll get lucky ! This year we have a new hope of belonging after we lost it last year to the MBs. We have new hopes for our country to cross the road and reach our so wished dreams of a country strong enough to face the world. A country every Egyptian is proud of.

This year I wish all Egyptians work together to erase the past years sorrows and pains. I wish we are able to stabilize our country without aid or help from anyone but Egyptians. I wish we work, invest and help our country. I wish we have the political will to blossom and move ahead. This year I wish we achieve our goals so I can go back and dream for myself, my family and my work…Happy New Year :)

LOVE ADVICE

TO RISK OR NOT TO RISK... THAT IS THE QUESTION! clear; it is clear that your partner is a cheater, a player, cheap and miserly, old and worn out, young and reckless, selfish and peacockish, poor and struggling, lazy and careless, irresponsible and dependent, or detached and cold. Risks are taken when the need overwhelms reasoning and the pressure of that need leads you to ignore the flaws.

“GET MARRIED TO THE PLAYER KNOWING THAT THIS IS WHO HE IS AND THAT IT WILL NOT CHANGE!”

T

he dictionary definition of “risk” as a noun is “a situation involving exposure to danger” and as a verb is “expose (someone or something valued) to danger, harm, or loss.” In relationships the “danger, harm, and loss” carries the negative connotations of pain and misery, wounds and scars, and immediate family drama and personal trauma. I have always been an advocate of accountability and of people being fully responsible for their choices. I have also written many times about “the price tag” that comes along with happiness! Everything has a price! Freedom has a price! Experience has a price! Innocence has a price! Knowledge has a price! Ignorance had a price! Risk has a price! Safety and shelter have a price! Conforming to the norms has a price! Rebelling against the givens has a price! Following your dreams has a price! Abandoning your dreams has a price! Taking a right turn has a price! Taking a left turn has a price! Standing still has a

price! “Yes” has a price! “No” has a price! You just have to decide what price you can afford to pay for the life you want to lead. You have to decide if you really care about your dreams enough to pursue them; if you truly care about your talent enough not to waste it; if you sincerely care about your life enough not to throw it away! Then you have to know that with choices comes power, with power comes responsibility, with responsibility comes accountability, with accountability comes experience, with experience comes maturity, and with maturity comes evolution and I guess that this is the whole purpose of being alive! Human beings are not perfect! We all have flaws and personal baggage! This is why when it comes to love, dating, or marriage there is always a risk – the risk of being with the wrong partner! Most of the time the flaws are

12 IDENTITY JANUARY 2014

Self-delusion is the result of a need to be loved, accepted, married, or becoming a parent. Society, age, and religion add to the intensity of those needs until you decide to settle! Settling down is not the same thing as settling; “settling down” means finding that one person that will end the search and hunt for a partner while “settling” means compromising and giving in to pressure – internal and external pressure. A calculated risk is what this feature is about! Get married to the player knowing that this is who he is and that it will not change! Date the cheap guy if it does not disgust you! Get involved with the older man if you are aware of the price! Risks are inseparable of living – you live; you take risks! Make sure your risks are calculated, your eyes are wide open, and that you are not delusional about how people could change and how love works miracles!

HOW TO DEAL WITH...

CHANGE YOUR LIFE... TO THE BETTER OF COURSE! ASSES YOURSELF Sit down with yourself. Jot down what you think are your pros and cons, dreams, life goals, write down everything, don’t limit yourself or holdback. Start setting a plan and figure out the changes you need to do. “Everybody is a genius. But if you Judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” -Albert Einstein MOTIVATE YOURSELF Constantly remind yourself of your dreams and goals. Stay strong and don’t wait for anyone else to motivate you or to believe in you. Push yourself forward, break your old habits, and move on to being who you want to be. “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence therefore, is not an act, but a habit.” -Aristotle LET THE FEAR PUSH YOU FORWARD You will be afraid, and thats ok, you are a human being. But don’t let the fear stop you, instead, let it motivate and strengthen you. “If you’re going through hell, keep going.” -Winston Churchill LIVE YOUR OWN LIFE Everyone has certain expectations from you, even the society you live in. Break free from the norm and the safe, and start living the life you want. “The biggest challenge in life is to be yourself in a world that is trying to make you like everyone else.” -Unknown FAIL TO SUCCEED You will fail, sooner or later, but thats a good thing, it means that you are trying. If you never try you will never succeed. Allow yourself to fail so you can eventually succeed. “In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.” -Bill Cosby

GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE Try new things, meet new people, and just kick yourself out of your comfort zone. There are a few things to risk losing, but so much more to gain. “The path to all your wildest dreams is not paved within your comfort zone.” -Stacey Alcorn DON’T BE INTIMIDATED We all get intimidated, you just have to take a deep break, and shake the intimidation off. That person is not a God, You are smart enough for that job, and being different is a positive thing. Dare to live, innovate, change, and dream. “Life can be much broader once you discover one simple fact: Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use.” -Steve Jobs DON’T WAIT FOR THE PERFECT TIME There will never be a perfectly convenient time to start changing your life. Make the changes now, no matter how small or big, just start now! “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” -Chinese Proverb DON’T SETTLE If you start to settle then you will eventually find yourself in another ordinary life. Don’t settle no matter how hard it gets, no matter how exhausted you are, you will regret it sooner or later. Dream big, never stop dreaming. When theres a will theres a way. “There is no passion to be found in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” -Nelson Mandela

14 IDENTITY JANUARY 2014

STAY FOCUSED There will be so many people bringing you down, thinking that they are helping you. There will be so many people hurting you, thinking that they are curing you. There will be so many people intending to put you off for known and unknown reasons. You will feel weak, worthless, and discouraged. What you need to do is ignore all that, and just keep going. Focus. Who are you? Who do you want to be? How can you get there? You have to think, without over thinking, because you have to start doing. Stop feeling sad, angry, hurt, and just move on. Reach your goal. Be who you want to be “There is only one way to avoid criticism: do nothing, say nothing, and be nothing.” -Aristotle

FASHIONISTAS TALK

What trend do you wish would disappear and what trend do you wish would last a bit longer?

“A fashion trend that I would love to disappear - forever not just in 2014 - is the heel less shoes as it looks ridiculous on the foot and it’s not even comfortable. As for the fashion trend that I wish to last a bit longer, I’d love to see more of mixing prints and patterns together. It’s very hard to get it right though, but when you do, it’s a very beautiful trend. “

Sara Habib

BUYER & STORE MANAGER FOR VILLA BABOUSHKA

“Uggs need to go away in 2014. They’re not flattering and they were never really trendy. They should remain where they belong at home next to the pantoufles. On the other hand, Egypt needs more leather skater skirts, suede floppy hats, structured bags and sleek tailored coats. This urban look will never get out of style.”

Hadia Ghaleb

FASHION EDITOR & STYLIST

“The trend I wish to disappear in 2014 is Neon, I think people in Egypt took it a step too far with wearing too much neon especially during the summer. And the trend I wish would last a little bit longer is all things leather, checkered, lace, and black. I love this edgy look, I never get bored of it.”

Amina Khalil

PAMPER YOURSELF

Dance your stress (and fat) away! Step into the world of music, dance and exercise! Jazzercise is the most fun way to integrate fitness into your lifestyle. Choreographed to today’s hottest music, Jazzercise is a fusion of jazz dance, resistance training, pilates, yoga, and kickboxing. No matter what your age or body shape is, they are ready to pamper you back to life with excitement and motivation! They even held a competition last month to motivate the contestants to shed some weight and gain exciting prizes. Take a look at what some of the contestants and an instructor had to say about Jazzercise:

GIHAN HAMDY (INSTRUCTOR) Fitness and sports for me has always been very important since I was young and once I heard of Jazzercise, I felt I needed to explore it. I immediately loved the idea of mixing dance and aerobics, took the course and became an instructor for three years now! The music is very energetic and elevates the entire mood. For advanced level players, it’s a challenge to become fit and push harder. It’s a lifestyle and it’s time for women to have that one holy hour to take care of their bodies. BEST PART: Movements are very well thought of. The entire process is gradual and so suits all those who have health problems, juniors or even the elderly.

NARDINE ERNEST (18 – CONTESTANT) I started experiencing with different classes and by the second week my body shape started changing and I decided to go for the competition. What really motivated me were the instructors and I felt like they believed in me and so I worked out more and it was for pure enjoyment. I loved it so much that I feel like I want to be an instructor and motivate others. BEST PART: dancing and exercising with great music!

22 IDENTITY JANUARY 2014

SARAH EL HAWARY (31 – CONTESTANT) There was a time when I was unemployed, bored and felt like I was gaining weight. I decided to take matters in my own hands and go to Jazzercise since I love music and aerobics at the same time. I even lost 12 cms off my waist! It changed my view of fitness as a necessary lifestyle rather than just a class or two per week. BEST PART: The instructors are great and notice every move we make and give the right instructions for every individual.

HEALTH MATTERS

THINGS THAT WILL SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASE YOUR RISK OF CANCER!

4

1

QUIT THE SMOKE Smoking is by far the most preventable cause of cancer in the world. Smoking causes more than four in five cases of lung cancer, which has the lowest survival rates of all cancers. Smoking also increases the risk of over a dozen types of cancers. Every time you smoke you put everyone around you at risk, because even second hand smoking increases the risk of cancer.

Fact: smoking kills people five times

more than road accidents, overdoses, murders, suicides and HIV all put together.

2

LIMIT THE ALCOHOL There is no doubt that alcohol can cause seven types of cancer including breast, bowel, liver, and mouth cancers. Not everyone who drinks will develop cancer, but research proves that people who consume alcohol are more likely to develop certain cancers than others.

3

BALANCE YOUR MEALS What we eat can increase or decrease our risk of cancer. Eating a well balanced healthy diet, high in fibre, fruit, vegetables, and low in salt, red and processed meats, can reduce your risk of cancer.

KEEP ACTIVE Research shows that exercising regularly and staying active reduces the risk of developing cancer. Exercising for 30 minutes 5 times a week could literally save your life!

5

SHIELD FROM THE SUN We all love the sun and a gorgeous tan, but overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun or sunbeds can increase your risk of cancer. You can still enjoy the sun by staying in the shade, clothing, avoiding sunburns, and using a sunscreen (at least SPF15).

6

STAY FAITHFUL HPV is a virus that infects the skin and the cells through skin-to-skin contact, usually during sexual activity. Most types of HPV are harmless, but 13 types can cause cancer. The risk of HPV infection is higher for people who have had more sexual partners or who started having sex at an earlier age. So stay faithful, and use condoms.

7

KEEP YOUR HORMONES IN CHECK At high levels naturally occurring hormones can increase our risk of some cancers by encouraging cells to multiply more than usual. The fat tissues in overweight people produce more hormones than those in people of a healthy weight, thusly increasing their risk of cancer.

Fact: Eating a single “SuperFood” is

unlikely to prevent cancer. However, regularly eating well balanced healthy varied meals will decrease your risk. 23 IDENTITY JANUARY 2014

8

KEEP A HEALTHY WEIGHT One in every twenty cases of cancer are linked to being overweight and obese. Breast, womb, bowel, esophageal, kidney, and gallbladder cancers are some of the cancers that are more common among overweight/obese people. Two of those cancers are the most common types of cancer, and three of them are the hardest to treat.

9

USE PLASTICS WITH CAUTION Minimize any potential risks by using plastics correctly. If you decide to use microwavable cling-film make sure it doesn’t touch the food. Heat increases the likelihood of pulling chemicals out, so be careful when you’re heating your food. You shouldn’t use cling film, plastics, or anything else that could actually melt into the food, be it in a microwave, oven, stovetop, or even in a hot cup of tea.

10

DO REGULAR SCREENINGS Screening can help detect cancers early, when they are most easily treated. In fact, cervical and colorectal screenings can find growths which can be removed before they ever become cancer. Man or Woman, you should talk to a doctor about which cancer screening tests are right for you and when you should get them. It is recommended that you get screened for different cancers at different times depending on your age and family history.

FOR HIM

COMMON

GROUND In every relationship, it’s important to have common interests other than your love for one another. Get to know what interests him and integrate it with your interests or maybe even find new ones together! Share your passions but just enough to keep things fresh. GOT THAT LINGERIE YET?

Love Making Got that lingerie yet? For the most part, you won’t need much work in that department. However, when things get dull, don’t wait for him to stir it up. Add a little fire and do it your way – refer to our “Getting Kinky Guide” (Page 25) for tips & tricks.

Sports If your guy is a big football fan or a fitness freak, make some time to try and enjoy it with him; workout together, compete in a marathon or just help him organize a sports night with your friends!

TRY TO ENJOY HIS PASSION

Food For most Egyptians this is as important as it gets. They say “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” – wait! Don’t do all the cooking! Go to exotic restaurants and try different meals, take a cooking class together or simply just invest in sexy lingerie, strawberries and whipped cream.

FOOD IS AS IMPORTANT AS IT GETS FOR AN EGYPTIAN MAN SEE THE WORLD WITH YOUR LOVER!

GIVE HIM SOME SPACE

Travel See the world with your lover! Not only will you have an unforgettable experience but you will also bond greatly with every trip. Don’t abandon him and go shopping, find sights and activities that you will both enjoy and have an adventure! Sky diving anyone?

Man Time Done all of the above? Good now give your man some time alone! Every man relishes his independence and alone time so don’t hover. Enjoy it! This is YOUR time too. Pamper yourself back to life before you start another cycle of finding “common ground”.

24 IDENTITY JANUARY 2014

DOS & DON’TS

CHANGE IT UP!

DO:

Let people In! Those who will support, understand and be there for you. They will help you grow and provide a safe environment for you to be vulnerable.

DO:

Get over it! be it a failed relationship, a job lost or an opportunity missed.

DON’T:

Hate people & isolate yourself! A friend’s stab to the back is hard to recover from, but it doesn’t mean that everyone is the same and out to hurt you. Same goes to relationships.

DON’T: Dwell on

it! Because that will only put you down further. Time heals but it won’t fix everything. Get out there and change it yourself!

DO:

Experiment with different things! There’s so much life has to offer than what meets the eye. Open yourself up for experiences and you never know where it will take you.

DON’T:

Shut the world out and live in a bubble. It might feel safe but when you’re older and look back you will feel like you missed out.

DO:

Take some time out! Don’t burn yourself and let the fast paced city get to you. Always give yourself a little time to “de-stress” and relax.

DO:

Think about the future! Plan for it, reach for your dreams and enjoy every part of the rough bumpy ride to get where you want to be.

DON’T: Slack off! No one gets

DON’T: Obsess! Life has a way of

anywhere by delaying everything to tomorrow. Take initiative and don’t wait for your life to happen, go out and make it happen. Britney said it and so will I, if you want the life you dream of, you better work b*tch!

unfolding that you will never get. Stop worrying about everything and focus on what you have and motivate yourself. Never give up when it gets rough, because it will at some point.

RELATIONSHIP RISKS WORTH TAKING

Whether it’s a serious, committed relationship or a casual, short-term one, every step in love is a gamble! If you want your relationship to flourish, you have to be willing enough to take some risks.

From friends to lovers Some people believe that it’s not that great of an idea to date a close friend, and that’s for two reasons. The first is that you probably know TOO much about each other which could lead to future fights. The second reason is being afraid it wouldn’t work out between you two and that will ruin your friendship and you’ll end up losing him. But you guys are close friends for a reason, you admire each other, so if you develop feelings for him, why would you miss out on the opportunity of a great relationship?

Trust him You might be dating a guy who cheated on his girlfriend with you, and ended up leaving her for you. You felt lucky and loved then, but after a while, you’ll start questioning whether he’ll do the same to you. Or maybe your man did cheat on you earlier in your relationship and you chose to forgive him. No matter what your situation is, even if your guy has a bad history of cheating, if you decided to give him a chance then give him a fair one.

Relocate for him

Ask Stupid Questions

Okay, so this one is VERY risky, but if you’re in a serious committed relationship then it’s worth taking. If your man decides to move to another country for a much better opportunity that will help him in his career, consider relocating for him. Relationships are all about supporting one another, and one day he’ll return the favour and go out of his way to support what you do. Just make sure you don’t change the path of your life for someone you’re not sure about yet.

While you’re caught up in the rush of dating, you might forget to ask the basic questions about your man. Don’t be afraid to ask silly questions or think about his reaction towards them, just do it. We know that couples who have a good “love map” of their partner are more likely to stay together. It might not seem important to know the name of your partner’s childhood best friend, or where his parents met, or what his father studied, but research has shown that understanding your man’s history creates marital stability, so think of each question as further investment in your relationship.

28 IDENTITY JANUARY 2014

INTIMACY

SPICE UP YOUR LOVE LIFE:

G

uide to etting Kinky PROPS Make use of all those stored Halloween costumes and props and find a way to add something extra to it. Simple handcuffs, blindfolds or just a naughty nurse outfit is often enough.

“I’M NOT AVERSE TO BEING TIED UP WITH SILK SCARVES, I LIKE A MAN TO TAKE CHARGE. THERE’S SOMETHING VERY SEXY ABOUT BEING SUBMISSIVE.” –EVA LONGORIA

SEXTING Stop instagramming and send a text to your man, get dirty girl! The unexpected surprise text will greatly excite him. SLOW MOTION No need to rush, take it slow. A quickie can be great but if it’s good then go with it, shut the world out and enjoy him for as long as you can. NOTE E-mail him a sexy note telling him what’s in store for him as soon as he gets home, that will fill him with up anticipation.

TREASURE TRAIL Take a “stroll” around the area between his belly button and youknow-what; it’s an erogenous zone. RECREATE A HOT NIGHT Be it your first night together or your honey moon, recreate that night. Talk about what happened in detail and then get it going. DANCE Dance for him, have him dance for you. Move in pure seduction and lustiness, make sure he knows you want it and want it NOW.

PRETEND YOU JUST MET Now you can sleep with a man on the first date and it won’t be considered too forward. Rekindle the butterflies and attraction of first dates and this time seal the deal. SHARE RACY COMPLIMENTS “You’re cute” won’t do it. Go racy and compliment his body, every part of it. This move will greatly boost his confidence as well as your sex life. EXPLORE Many women don’t explore their bodies enough to be sexually adventurous with a partner. Understand what pleases you and listen to your body, do the same with your partner. Once you know the right spots, you two will be on a rocket ride to kinky town!

BEAUTYHOLIC

REINVENT YOUR LOOK! There is something about the turn of a calendar year that makes everyone crave dramatic change, especially when it comes to physical appearance (you know, the whole “New Year, New Look” thing). But you don’t have to lose 20 pounds, dye your hair red or max out your credit card at the mall to reinvent your image—smaller changes can add up to a big impact.

Play up your eyes in a whole new way Deep-blue eye pencil is a great new alternative to basic brown and black - it’s just as subtle and versatile, but the blue undertones brighten the whites of your eyes, making you seem instantly less tired and more alert. This shade still has the depth of colour you need to play up the shape of the eye but gives you a modern, sophisticated look. Stick to navy or deep indigo hues, and smudge it subtly right into your lash line.

Vamp up your volume

*

Take hair from flat to fabulous by giving your roots a little boost before you style. We recommend teasing hair around the crown before styling to give your look a total transformation!

*Red lipstick

Don’t be scared off by its boldness. The truth is, red is one of the most universally wearable lipstick shades, and it’s a classic way to add both impact and femininity to your look.

*Modernize your manicure Your nails may seem like minor details, but they say a lot about you. For example, squared/ squoval-shaped tips painted with pale-pink polish are pretty, but a little predictable. Try this of-the-moment twist instead, and watch your nails suddenly spark attention: Instead of squaring off the tips, file them round across and then round off the corners, creating what manicurists call a “rounded/stiletto” shape.

Start whitening Want to immediately look younger, healthier, and prettier? Sure, a new hairstyle and great makeup can help, but it won’t make as big of a difference as whitening your teeth. There’s a reason teeth whitening is an important part of any makeover, it makes a big difference in your overall appearance.

31 IDENTITY JANUARY 2014

Out with a bang

*

There’s no question a great set of bangs can drastically transform your look. But don’t get stuck in a bang rut! Switch up your look by pinning bangs back to open up your face or casually swipe to the side to create a softer look.

ASK IDENTITY’S STYLIST

Dear Identity’s Stylist, I’m a 22 year old girl and I love fashion. My wardrobe is full of all kinds of clothes but I just don’t know how to put them together. It’s very cold these days so I keep worrying about the weather and end up looking like a stuffed teddy. How can I wear layers of clothes that will keep me warm but still look good? Thanks,

Amina.

Tips: -Avoid lots of the same fabric, lots of knits will make you look like an eskimo. -A jacket doesn’t need to go over anything, why not have it under a fur vest for a more dramatic look. -Accessories go a long way.

Dear Amina, Many women are afraid to layer their clothes for fear of looking bigger than they actually are. In my opinion to pull off a sleek and flattering layered look is by playing around with textures, fabrics and prints. You can start with a basic lightweight knit something that isn’t too chunky in contrast it should be a little body conscious, add on that bold print cardigan for a print effect so your look isn’t too plain. Now you can start mixing with fabrics, why not add a leather vest or a denim shirt. Add on a trendy cape for a statement or your favourite coat. Final touches should be a cool scarf and stacks of jewellery. If you have the basics down you can go crazy with anything you put together.

POINT OF VIEW

TAKE A CHANCE ON RISKS

50 IDENTITY JANUARY 2014

E

very person on this earth faces uncertainties. We constantly find ourselves in life changing situations and we have to deal with the inevitable cross road. Should I risk it all? What if I wait for a better chance? Or should I just push through as safely as possible?! Anyone who reads these questions, find the middle and last one to be the most comforting than the first with the word ‘Risk’. This brought me to wonder about the bad reputation of risks. Especially when compared to chance, it seems like such a negative action. Both mean unforeseeable consequences to an action taken and yet risks imply the negative implications that could take place while chance has a more positive outlook. When you look at it, both are two sides of the same multi-print scarf. One just looks prettier than the other. Perhaps since chance is sometimes linked with luck, it evolves into being an opportunity that just comes on a silver platter. Risks are opportunities too, luck plays a game in it as well but the only big difference is that YOU are responsible for taking risks. You take a chance, you fail, and it’s ok. You take a risk, fail and it’s entirely your fault. So we hear these stories about someone’s dad who lost all their money or this girl who thought she will find someone better and never did… And you think to yourself, why risk it all?

Here’s why: The fruits of just trying can be astounding! It is a bet, yes. A gamble you take on yourself or on an opportunity. Failure might result but so can success. The fear of not knowing where it could lead can be avoided with proper planning and thoroughly thinking every possible outcome to the risk. It’s not all about luck. Don’t jump the guns and hope for the best! It’s working for it, calculating risk and the potential of right and wrong that balances it all. Once you see risk for what it really is, you will realize it’s just a step further beyond your comfort zone of making choices. Risks push you to reach your maximum potential. You can remain stagnant and safe all your life and never reach the desired achievements and on the other hand you could take a risk that completely changes your life! You could fail? Yes but that leads to the following point… Experience. Without risks you won’t gain actual experience in whatever it is that you are venturing into. They say live it, learn it. So why regard risks as something much bigger than what it is; just a trial. You fail you learn, you succeed you also learn. The way I see it, it’s a win-win situation.

Why gamble? Because your entire existence is a gamble and it’s worth it!

I HOLLYWOOD

CELEBRITY RISK TAKERS

If they can do it, so can you! MILEY CYRUS took the ultimate risk of changing her image & music style and guess what? It worked!

REBECCA BLACK decided to pursue her dream despite everyone’s negative comments. She just released a new song called –wait for it- “Saturday”

Same goes for our favourite comedian BASSEM YOUSSEF who left his medical years behind and went for the lights! Changing the country as he climbs the ladder of fame.

Even though a space performance around the earth is not really surprising knowing LADY GAGA’s history. However mother monster takes a huge risk to be named first performer in space! 52 IDENTITY JANUARY 2014

SHERIHAN has made a big come back in 2013 announcing that she is ready to go back to work! People will have very high expectations for her to meet. Dazzle them diva!

When ANGELINE JOLIE & BRAD PITT went for a big family of adopted and biological multiracial family they made a statement. Opting for a large family considering their career is a risk they took and they seem to be very happy with.

HUSSEIN EL JASMI took a risk many wouldn’t which is to go under the knife to lose weight. He ended up losing about 60 KG and adopting a healthier lifestyle. He says he looks and more importantly feels better!

SNOOP DOGG took a risk when he made the infamous duet with Tamer Hosny “Si El Sayed”. We don’t think he realizes how silly it was but for him it was a new experience and he made his entrance into the Arab world (as if he needed to).

Lebanese sensation CAROLE SAMAHA took a risk when she chose “El Shahroura” as her first venture in to acting. Viewers had mixed opinions and feelings about her performance. None the less, it was a bold move!

Apparently KANYE WEST believes he took the risk of being a rapper since it’s like being (and ironically so) just like a police officer or at war or something... that’s why he ranks at no.10 for taking a big risk of absolute delusion. 53 IDENTITY JANUARY 2014

NOVEL ALERT: EL MORSHED An epic tale of the main character’s rise and fall over corruption and with it, until he falls apart along with the entire political system. The latest novel by writer Ashraf El-Ashmawy is a brilliant representation of how history repeats itself and revolutions continue to take place as if nothing ever changes. He delves into the psyche of a police guide with all his flaws and insecurities; with that we begin to understand the present and foresee the future only to be stunned by history’s repetitive nature and our inability to learn from the past. This is Ashmawy’s third novel after ‘The Hyena’s Time’ and ‘Toya’. 55 IDENTITY JANUARY 2014
