ith no regrets we bid you farewell 2014! And with much anticipation we await 2015. We have high hopes; we will conquer the world ☺
Every year, we end it with the usual misery and start it with the good wishes for the following year. We never change and we probably never will. Hope and good keep us going from day to day and year to year. Our faith that we will witness good in this world or the after world does have a great influence on the path of events and the way we handle our rocky lives. There is always this flicker of light at the end of every tunnel; downfall, heartache, loss… and the list can go on forever. Our search for happiness keeps us on track, checking every day for those ultimate pleasures of the universe and what it might offer, questioning our mere existence and what we did wrong to deserve this misery. Well, I have news for you! It’s all in your mind. You are only human, you are allowed to make mistakes, and your allowed to make wrong choices, but at the end… You choose to be happy OR you choose to be miserable! You choose to accept the downfall OR quickly adjust and stand solid back on your feet! You choose to see the good in everyone or you choose to see the bad! You choose to be positive OR you choose to be negative! You choose to hurt OR you choose to be sincere! You choose to be kind OR you choose to be mean! You choose to be someone OR you accept to be no one! IT’S ALL YOUR CHOICE … HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Are you facing some struggles in your relationship? Send us your problem to: sendus@identity-mag.com and our relationship expert, Marwa Rakha, will be happy to help you out!
WE ARE SO DIFFERENT...
I’m a 23 years old girl. I’ve been engaged for 2 years now and I still can’t get used to my fiancé being so materialistic. For him love and respect is all about money and I’m not like that at all, I appreciate kind words and warm feelings. The perfect birthday gift for me would be a romantic candle light dinner but he seems to value expensive effortless presents a lot more. I’m crazy about him but I’m afraid this might affect our relationship on the long run. I’m also worried about the way we will raise our future kids; will we raise them up to be spiritual or highly materialistic too?
Spiritual
Dear Spiritual, The kind of materialism you should worry about is usually part of a larger package; a materialistic person would usually be extremely ambitious. He’s addicted to brands, and judges people based on appearances, he’s also a show-off, arrogant, and conceited. You said that you are madly in love with your fiancé of two years; hence, I could safely assume that he is not inflicted with any of the above-mentioned character flaws.
Your main problem with this man is that he is not romantic enough for you; you want to live a fairytale where your prince charming literally takes your breath away with awe-inspiring surprises. You are not spiritual; you are romantic! You have watched too many American movies, read too many English novels, listened to too many Arabic songs, memorized too many Disney quotes, and now you are longing to live in one of those bubbles. Your fiancé probably thinks that all those heart-shaped balloons and creative gift-wrapping ideas are a pure waste of money. He might also think that most fancy restaurants are over-priced and at the end of the day, we all know where digested food goes. I am not defending your man; I am just trying to show you how he thinks and why your romantic notions might never cross his mind. My advice would be: Take the Lead! If it is your birthday, you prepare the romantic setting where he would give you his expensive gift! If it is a special occasion, you take the lead and design all those heart -warming intricacies that would satisfy your fantasies. Stop expecting him to be you! He is who he is and he is expressing his love as best as he could. As for raising the kids, this might be a topic for discussion between the two of you; if you truly want spiritual kids, then you have to totally abolish the concept of reward and punishment! This would include occasion-related gifts and obedience rewards. You would give them gifts – material and symbolic ones – at any time all the time! You and your husband will also have to find new ways of celebrating special occasions. As a family, you will learn to celebrate the gift of life everyday with gratitude and humbleness. This is the true meaning of spiritualism.

IDENTITY way of life Have you ever felt lost like you were in the middle of nowhere?
Have you ever felt like you were void or empty and questioned the reasons behind your existence?!Surely you have! Truth be told, life has become monotonous and boring, having to face endless daily life struggles at work, in traffic, or even within ourselves. This is a very crucial topic, particularly with the present materialistic world around us. But most importantly, have you ever wondered if this was the time you should do some soul searching? Find out why you should be more spiritual.
FIVE REASONS
WHY
YOU SHOULD BE SPIRITUAL tip
1
REDEFINE THE TRUE MEANING OF YOURSELF
Life is tough, and as you mature, you become more in charge of your responsibilities. Having lots of responsibilities does not necessarily mean we have to prioritize them. Breaking the cycle every once in a while through meditation allows your mind to sort out what is really important to YOU and not to others! At the end of the day, who puts the benefit of others ahead of their own? No one! You might not have realized this earlier, so stop acting haphazardly and start taking control of your own life.
tip
2
BE MORE DECISIVE
Are you always confused, finding it hard to make important decisions? Have you wondered why it takes you forever to decide what to do? Have you thought of exposing yourself a bit to reflect on the probable decisions that you might have taken. At the end, it doesn’t matter which way you put it. Going on a spiritual journey will make you feel at peace with whatever decision you make. By practicing mindfulness, you will have more angles of reflection and you will gain more experience.
tip
3
BE LESS DRAMATIC
Life is full of drama! But when you’re spiritual, you will have a totally different perception of drama. Problems won’t be regarded as PROBLEMS, but rather, challenges you CAN overcome! You just have to acknowledge the problem, and hence accept it. You are at peace with yourself, because now you are able to arrive to the complete understanding and resolution to the problem.
tip
4
PROMOTE PHYSICAL HEALTH
Real spiritual journeys lead to a better state of holistic comfort. Practicing any form of spirituality, whether meditation, prayer, or yoga is incredibly beneficial. In many cases, we are truly bound to observe and take spiritual experiences seriously. A growing number of studies have confirmed that spirituality helps people live longer, probably because of this complex relationship between spiritual beliefs and psychological health. We are body and soul.
tip
5
EXPAND YOUR UNLIMITED POTENTIAL
Spirituality helps you discover what you did not previously know about yourself, clearing your vision and broadening your horizon. It enhances your creativity, and builds a magnetic aura that attracts people towards you. It creates an energy field that gives a sense of security, fearlessness and power!

SIX
WAYS TO BECOME A BETTER PERSON
Being a better person is so subjective; it varies from one point of view to another.
However, some things are just common. There are small immediate actions that can easily make you become a better person; engage in all acts of kindness and attentiveness! Be loving! We were all born to be good, kind and loving! Life, however, happened to all of us making some of us tougher, harsher and others kinder and more caring! But you can still change and it shouldn’t be that challenging because you’re originally meant to be that way.
Stop judging
Be grateful
Show your feelings
Take it easy. Stop being so hard on yourself and others, believe in tolerance. I know being judgemental sometimes gives you a false impression of superiority. You subconsciously judge others just to feel better about yourself, but what it might actually do is make you feel a whole lot worse. Learn to accept others and embrace their differences. Just because they’re different doesn’t make them inferior!
Always count your blessings and never take anything for granted. Appreciate the little beautiful details and be thankful for all of them. Be grateful for the presence of family, friends, and neighbours; enjoy having them in your life because you can never know how long that will last. Practice makes perfect, exercising gratitude should become one of your daily rituals. Wake up everyday and think of three things you’re grateful for.
Try not to wear your heart on your sleeves; but don’t go the other extreme either, being the one who’s always emotionally dry. Don’t be afraid to be emotional around your loved ones. No, it’s not a sign of weakness or anything. Human relationships are complicated enough, so stop making it harder for yourself and others.
Be truthful to yourself Defining what “being yourself” is could be a difficult task. You might wonder at first what if “being myself” isn’t so interesting or appealing? Don’t be afraid to be truthful, express your opinions loudly but politely without offending others and tolerate opposing ideas. That’s what we call open-mindedness! Be honest to yourself before being honest to others! And never say something unless you really mean it.

Be helpful Do good and good will come unto you; this is called “Karma”. Don’t expect anything from anyone and always give more than what you get. Never let the attitudes and behaviours of others stop you from being good. It can be as simple as a smile, a sweet compliment, or lending them an ear. Be positive and inspiring to others but in order to do so you have to be positive and love yourself. Find your passion and pursue it, this will make your soul grow and glow inside out.
Stop whining and victimizing yourself Stop making excuses and start acting and actually doing something about it. Life is too short to procrastinate. More importantly, hold yourself responsible for your own mistakes.

SOUL
EIGHT SEARCHING QUESTIONS IN THE QUEST FOR PEACEFULNESS Finding answers to life’s most crucial questions is not as easy as it may seem.
The deep thinking and analytical process adopted from imposing such profound questions can cause a major life change, you might have never expected. Identity has collected a series of soul searching questions, that maybe falling short of what you really need to do to reach inner peace! WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE IN LIFE? Don’t ever rush to that one. You really need to think about the answers, and have them come from your heart and not your mind. Life is a journey that is meant to be questioned, and not taken at face value. WHAT MAKES YOU TRULY HAPPY AND FULFILLED? You need to observe your behaviour pattern throughout your life. What makes you happy, sad, vulnerable, strong, weak, angry, confident, or stressed? Are you still doing what makes you feel that way now, and if not, what is stopping you? WHAT ARE YOUR TALENTS AND UNIQUE GIFTS? It is really important to identify what you are good at, even if you are not capitalizing on it. Don’t just ‘go with the flow like’, without identifying your true innate capabilities. You need to dig deeper within yourself. ARE YOU MAKING YOURSELF A PRIORITY? Years from now, you may regretfully look back and wish you had taken out enough time for yourself to figure out your real direction and focus in life. Don’t put others’ priorities ahead of your own, as simple as that! WHAT DO YOU NEED TO GIVE UP SO YOU CAN GROW? What do you think you need to do in order to grow!?What is it you need to work on? Life’s number one rule is “no pain no gain”. You need to sacrifice something to get another. So, what are you ready to let go of? Is it time? Leisure? Love?

JAN
* identity-mag.com
WHAT RECURRENT THOUGHTS AND BELIEFS ARE LIMITING YOU? Start questioning yourself about the real reasons behind those recurrent negative thoughts. Such thoughts keep wearing your energy out without you even realizing it, and may destroy your life dramatically on all fronts! WHAT SITUATIONS HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO YOUR FEELINGS OF SELF-DOUBT? You have surely doubted yourself before when people thought you were making the wrong decisions or failing in general. What’s really important is how you reacted in such situations where you experienced self-doubt. At the end of the day, did you stick to your decisions? WHAT ARE YOU AVOIDING? This is a seemingly difficult question, but an inevitable one too. When it comes to inner peace, you have to face yourself with your deepest fears , and question them. If you fear something, then why so? Is it worth it? Is it real?
IDENTITY way of life
DÉJÀ VU Deja vu is the feeling that you have been through an identical situation before! You strongly believe that it has already happened, and that it’s repeating itself all over again. The experience is usually unexpected and short-lived. It’s a rare moment where your present feels exactly like your past, for no good reason! In many cases, it is accompanied by a sense of delusion, where you find it really hard to recall or relate! DÉJÀVISITE
THE ASTOUNDING PHENOMENA OF THE MIND: HAVE I BEEN THERE BEFORE? Apart from the materialistic world we live in, and the situations that pop up on a daily basis, some very unusual happenings inevitably take place.
Our pragmatism made us unconsciously underestimate the power of our minds, making such events a mystery to this day! Science has been able to describe the strange phenomena befalling us but we still can’t FULLY account for their origins. They are simply outside of the psychological realm!

‘Have I been here before’ is the feeling you get when you’re going through Déjà Visite. It is an exceptional experience involving a mysterious knowledge of a totally new place. You are quite familiar with the surroundings, despite the fact that you have never been there before! Not only that, but you also know that it’s impossible to retrieve this knowledge elsewhere! Déjà Visite involves our geographical and spatial relationships, through a form of temporal occurrences. When you are there for the first time, it usually feels like ‘that’s my old home’! OUT OF BODY PERCEPTION This is how the story begins. You are a patient undergoing surgery and you’re under the effect of anaesthesia. Now, behold! You suddenly wake up to find yourself floating up in the ceiling. Guess what, the doctor is operating on you, and you glimpse a peculiar sign announcing your death! Your body is in shock, and you’re revived once more. Hours later, you wake up with the weirdest feeling ever! Of course! Your mind was functioning outside your body (they call it a neardeath-experience). Your consciousness exceeded the boundaries of your physical body and surprisingly your death!
IDENTITY way of life
HOW TO BE POSITIVE? With the countless struggles we have to deal with every day, one finds it extremely challenging to look at the bright side and find the positive aspect of any situation at hand. We tend to overlook the good in the bad, the happy in the sad and the gain in the pain. In many cases, one becomes critical and even condescending. We’re all fighting different battles, but striving to make the best out of life is the real challenge we need to work on. Here are five tips to help you become more positive.
POSITIVE ATTITUDE IS A CHOICE
LOOK FOR THE FULL HALF CUP
You have to understand that being positive is a choice you make. Don’t spend your life pointing fingers or blaming relationships, parents, work and fate for your misfortunes. You decide how you want to feel about any situation, because YOU control your attitude. You need to stay positive no matter how negative the atmosphere around you is.
For every challenge, you need to look for the full rather than the empty half of the cup. There is always a positive aspect to any situation we confront even though to we choose to ignore it. It’s all about perception. If you only gave yourself the chance to evaluate each situation and take it out of context, you will surely find something genuinely good about it.
STAY AWAY FROM NEGATIVE PEOPLE
PRACTICE POSITIVITY ON A REGULAR BASIS
If you really want to be positive, you need to shy away from the negative vibes emitted by negative people around you. There are people who are consistently negative, and persistently bringing you down. We all KNOW one or two of those who are always pulling us down. Learn to stick to the positive people in your life, although dumping the negative ones will be hard and hurtful, of course! But it’s better to be alone than to live under the influence of negative people.
Since you decided to stay positive; you will need to reinforce that decision with parallel behaviour and attitude on a regular basis. It’s all about practice. You have to keep reminding yourself of how successful and life changing your decision has been. Focus on what you like about yourself, and work on what you don’t like. Remind yourself of the positive attributes you have acquired to STAY positive. It’s an on-going learning process.

GIVE BACK YOUR POSITIVITY TO OTHERS Now that you have become positive, you have to share your experience with the rest of the world. Act as a responsible human being whose aim is to give back to others. The simplest things are the secrets of Life! You can share positivity using different methods. Tell someone you love that you love them ,smile to people you care about, or draw a smile on someone’s face expecting no return. The art of giving is usually the best thing that could ever happen to you.

Facial wash is the essential key to a natural look, wash your face gently in a circular motion to guarantee a fresh look. We strongly recommend “Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash” as it ensures the level of purity that your skin needs by removing dirt, makeup and dead skin cells. Moisturizing cream is a big must! It gives your face a radiant look; it glows through out the day and helps makeup to blend in easily. We recommend “Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer SPF30/PA+++” it hydrates and helps reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation. Concealer is optional in the no makeup look. Use it if you have under eye dark circles or darker areas in the face before applying the foundation. We recommend “Make up forever lift concealer” rich in Vitamin A & E and naturally hides any flaws. Enhance your natural look with a light foundation that matches your skin tone. Foundation can get heavy and cakey, to avoid that blend it using a sponge. We recommend “Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Foundation SPF 15” as it’s perfectly designed for the no makeup look.

NAIL RESCUE! Nail care is a very essential part of every woman’s beauty routine. Taking care of our nails is one of the first beauty rituals we learn; we trim, file and sometimes even bite them:).For some women nail care can be so much fun polishing their finger and toenails in vibrant colours, and giving them different shapes too!
Actually you can tell a lot about people by how they take care of their nails ‌
GETTING READY FOR A HOME PEDICURE!
1- First of all sit somewhere
comfortable where you can put your feet within easy reach, set your pedicure kit and products. 2-Set up your towel near a basin or bathtub and lay out a paper towel for your feet. 3- Remove any old nail polish. 4-Trim your toe nails to the desired length. 5-File your nails into even shapes using regular strokes. 6-Use cotton pads to remove any debris. 7-Apply moisturizer to the top of your nails and cuticles rubbing in circular motion. 8-Soak both feet in this natural footbath and relax. sugar. Allow to cool, until the mixture is cool enough for you to place your feet. Pour into a large enough bowl to fit both feet. Soak for 10 minutes. You can either rinse now, or use some extra sugar to scrub your feet. Rinse well, and then apply moisturizer.
9-Take your feet out of the soak
and use foot scrub to get rid of all the dead cells in the foot, hands and nails. Hand & Foot scrub Ingredients: 2 table spoon grinded sea salt 2 teaspoon of grinded oatmeal 1 tsp. baking soda How to use: Combine ingredients, and add enough water (rose water works welltoo) to make a paste. Apply to skin and rub gently. Rinse and gently pat dry.
10-Using a cotton cloth, wipe your
feet to get off those last bits of dead skin. 11-Apply moisturizer in circular motion all over your feet. 12- Wear a plastic bag and socks for an hour; the evaporation will let you have amazing baby skin feet!!
13- Clean with distilled water (warm water is the best). 14-Pat dry with a cotton towel and use a very light moisturizer afterwards. 15-Admire your beautiful nails ;) The ingredients in these beauty recipes are 100% natural, but you still need to watch out for allergic reactions. To test other ingredients make up a very small amount of the recipe you intend to use. Wash and gently dry a small patch of skin inside your elbow. Apply a little of the mix to the skin and leave for 48 hours. If you experience any redness or swelling DO NOT USE AT ALL.

ART THERAPY FINALLY COMES TO EGYPT! If you wish to understand more about colour therapy, Dr. Hadeel Farahat speaks to Identity about this new and exciting field. Colours affect every aspect of our lives from the moment we are born until we die; they influence every level of our existence. We need to maintain a good balance of life-giving colours flowing in our system in order to be healthy and happy. Our body is made up of patterns of light and sound while our emotions are strongly associated with the colours around us. Our mental state is stimulated or retarded by light, while our spirit can be uplifted by inner visions of light. HOW DID YOU START? My name is Hadeel Farahat; I’m Assistant Professor at MSA University and a colour counsellor and healer. I have finished my degree at the Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University. HOW DID YOU BECOME INTERESTED IN COLOUR THERAPY? When I finished my PHD about the psychological aspects for designing & printing psychiatric hospitals upholstery textile, I felt I needed to learn more about colours. I started an online degree with Iris International School in the UK, three years ago. WOW, YOU MUST LOVE STUDYING! TELL US, WHAT IS COLOUR THERAPY? Colour therapy works according to the law of resonance which states that when two systems resonate with one another, energy can flow freely between them. Colour healing works by introducing the colour or colours that have sympathetic resonance to the area you wish to balance and heal.

AND WHAT WAS THE LAST CASE YOU HEALED USING COLOURS? One of my friends was suffering from stress and depression and I advised him to introduce green and orange in his life by going to parks early in the morning, it really worked. THAT’S REALLY INTERESTING... GENERALLY SPEAKING, WHAT DOES AN ART THERAPIST DO? Well, we have different ways of introducing colours to our system. A colour therapist has to find the right way to do it.
Colour therapy is truly a holistic therapy because the treatment prescribed to different people having the same symptoms is unlikely to be the same. Colour therapy incorporates many different diagnostic techniques and treatments; a good therapist will be able to use and combine all of them to suit individual needs. SO DO YOU HAVE TO STUDY PSYCHOLOGY OR CHARACTER ANALYSIS TO BECOME AND ART THERAPIST? Yes, I actually studied the relationship between psychology, characters and colours. HOW DO COLOURS AFFECT OUR LIVES? Rooms where we spend a great deal of time should have plenty of air and natural light. Dark, dreary places make us depressed and ill. Even in sunny countries we need to get as much sunlight as possible, even though many people still spend a great deal of time indoors under artificial lights. The colours in our surroundings transmit certain wave-lengths into our vital systems. By using one’s knowledge and understanding of the universal action and quality of each colour vibration, we are able to manipulate colours to enhance the quality of life.
whether in person or in a camera, striking rich colours will hold their attention. Light or dark neutrals in a lecture hall will make you fade into the background. • If a person is wearing orange that means he/she is a happy outgoing disposition. They are creative but practical people, who are in tune with their bodies, but may take on too many projects at one time. • If a person is wearing purple that means he/she is a very sensitive and creative person who is spiritually inclined. • If a person is wearing black that indicates he/she is a person who may be going through a difficult time or life changes. They need to shield themselves from the rest of the world and appear mysterious. CAN YOU GIVE US SOME TIPS ON HOW TO TREAT STRESS WITH COLOUR? You can eat green food such as peas, lettuces, Arugula, cucumber and drink milk. • Wear green colours especially in the abdomen area. • Walking in the sun and wearing white cloths is very useful. I NEVER THOUGHT OF HOW IMPORTANT COLOURS ARE! SO DO YOU PREFER TO WORK IN A SPECIFIC ENVIRONMENT? An ideal consolation or a wide therapy room with light soft colours is the best. If you wish to project coloured light on the ceiling above the place where your client will lay down, this should be an off white. Ideally, the room should be light and airy and located on the quiet side of the house. TELL US ABOUT YOUR BIG DREAM? I hope that colour therapy will expand here in Egypt making it one of the most important countries in this field. AND FINALLY, HOW CAN PEOPLE REACH YOU? I’m always reachable through email: hadeelfarahat@ yahoo.com

HEAL THE MIND FIRST! You will only change you are ready to change, and that awareness is usually the first step to start the healing process. Identity has conducted an interview with Dr. Hoda Tarrab, a holistic health consultant, to brief you about the importance of healing in attaining wellbeing and happiness. TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF: HOW DID YOU START YOUR CAREER, AND WHY DID YOU CHOOSE IT? I started studying homeopathy and graduated from Lakeland College of Homeopathy (IMCL).Then I studied the sensational method in homeopathy, and currently studying classical homeopathy at the International Academy for Classical Homeopathy. I have completed my required medical training. I got so interested in other holistic methods, and studied vibrational medicine and became an Advanced Essence Practitioner, accredited by the British Flower and Vibrational Essence association, and also a member of the International British Flower and Vibrational Essence Association.

I completed my fourth level of kinesiology, certified by the Touch for Health Institute, and then took two levels of facial Harmony which works on the same meridian system like kinesiology. I finished my master level in Reiki. I completed two levels in color therapy, at the Oracle School of Colour (UK) and level one in crystal healing. I became a certified Enneagram practitioner. Finally ,I completed the first level in Hypnosis. I chose this career because I have wanted to always be open to learning. This is because I see that there are so many ways to heal and that’s fascinating, because it is just another way of proving God’s mercy and love. GENERALLY, HOW DO YOU HEAL A PERSON? Most of the clients come knowing which treatment they want. Only a few don’t really care and just want to get well. For those cases, we just start talking about their condition and depending on the level of disturbance, I recommend a treatment or a combination of treatments. In few cases I combine different methods. DO YOU HEAL A PSYCHOLOGICAL ILLNESS OR PHYSICAL ONES? OR BOTH? First, we need to clarify the difference between the conventional and the complementary holistic approach to healing. The conventional approach focuses on eliminating the disease through the use of drugs and surgery, focusing on the symptoms rather than focusing on the cause. Doctors tend to be specialized in specific fields so they don’t view patients as a whole. They assume everyone is the same. However, the complementary method is based on a holistic approach, where the person is treated as a whole on all levels: mental, emotional and physical. You cannot heal one without the other.
WHICH KIND OF DISEASES CANNOT BE HEALED AND WHY? There are many obstacles to healing; the worst being the mental obstacle when people are not even aware that there is a problem. Abusing one’s body can be another obstacle to healing, also living in an unbalanced way, suppressing disease for years, and neglecting oneself for too long. Healing is a process; its length will vary from one person to another. ULTIMATE HEALTH IS ACHIEVED THROUGH FINDING ONE’S PURPOSE IN LIFE AND RESTORING EMOTIONAL EQUILIBRIUM. MANY OF US ARE LOST; HOW POSSIBLY COULD THEY KNOW THEIR PURPOSE IN LIFE? WHAT’S YOUR ADVICE? One has to be balanced on a mental, emotional, and physical level first, then find out what really makes them happy. One must be aware that the purpose of life has to be unselfish but not selfless; it should include the welfare of others too. For some people this is a real challenge, because they only see themselves. THE AIM OF THE CONSULTATION IS TO BRING AWARENESS TO A PERSON’S THOUGHT PATTERN AND LIMITATIONS WHICH STAND IN THE WAY OF HEALING. HOW IS THAT? DOES IT HAVE TO DO THE ROLE OF THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND? Awareness is the key to the beginning of the healing process. First, one has to be aware of their case, acknowledge it and accept that they have flaws, and be willing to change them. This entails letting go of beliefs which suppress them in one way or another; it’s a real challenge. YOU BELIEVE A PERSON WILL ONLY CHANGE WHEN THEY ARE READY TO CHANGE, AND THAT AWARENESS IS ALWAYS THE SAFEST WAY TO START THE HEALING PROCESS. WHAT MAKES A PERSON NOT READY TO BE CHANGED? There are many obstacles to the healing process such as lack of awareness, unwillingness to let go
old beliefs, emotional attachment becoming trapped in circumstances not in charge of their own life; not willing to take responsibility for themselves; lack of purpose and direction; or simply being victims of a fixed routine. WHAT ARE THE REASONS BEHIND THE INCREASED PSYCHOLOGICAL AND PHYSICAL SICKNESS THESE DAYS, ESPECIALLY AMONG YOUTH? AND HOW CAN THEY PROTECT THEMSELVES? One cannot generalize, each case is unique. Generally we have less time for ourselves; we are too ambitious, greedy, and selfish. We spend more time with technology then in nature. We have weak family ties, distorted connection to God, bad eating habits and general lack of self-love.
Further questions: GENERALLY, DO YOU GO FOR MEDICINE OR SPIRITUAL HEALING? WEIGHTS? In accidents and life threatening cases, I would go to hospital. I would still like to have lab results and appreciate medical consultations when required, before and after treatment to assess correctly. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PLACE WHERE YOU COULD UNITE WITH YOURSELF PEACEFULLY? NATURE? COFFEE PLACE? ETC.. I love Marsa Allam, and I love feluka rides on the Nile. The‘Cake‘ in Zamalek is my favorite coffee place. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE ROLE OF FAITH IN THERAPY? SOMEONE WHO IS AGNOSTIC VERSUS SOMEONE WHO IS RELIGIOUS. Many of the complementary treatments work on animals, and young babies who don’t know the concept of faith. However in my experience, I found that distorted faith is an obstacle to healing.

How can we maintain a sense of spirituality in a material world? This is the time
of year when many followers of the Abrahamic religions (the Christians and Jews in particular) celebrate important religious holidays through ritual, bonding, and, increasingly through the purchase and giving of material goods. In fact, Christmas, a holy day in many religions, has also become the ultimate symbol of materialism. So how can we reconnect spirituality to this increasingly materialistic holiday? Christmas is the favorite holiday of many children because they learn to associate it with receiving gifts. In the United States, children believe that Santa Claus brings them gifts to be left under the tree. In Germany,
Madonna belted out in her 90’s chart-topping hit of the same name that “we are living in a material world, and I am a material girl”. Perhaps one reason for the songs success was that so many of us can relate to the lyrics. The consumer-oriented world around us is increasingly filled with all sorts of shiny goodies and technological wonders that make it easy to slip into the kind of mindset Madonna was singing about. There are few among us who have not at one time or another been overcome with the lust for the latest piece of technology, a fancier car, or that pair of shoes we just can’t live without. And while there are plenty of reasons to resist these temptations (perhaps most importantly that the earth itself cannot sustain current levels
deeply important spiritual significance – the many beautiful mosques, the first religious monasteries, and the countless sites of the religion of ancient Egypt all offer a spiritually enriching alternative to the vapid world of consumerism. Another important thing we can do is to talk to our children about the importance of spirituality. This time of year is an especially opportune time to help socialize these young minds to understand the significance of the spirit. We should be talking with our children about what it means to be spiritual (which again can mean many different things to different people) rather than asking them for long lists of desired material objects they hope someone will buy for them.
“MANY WILL ARGUE THAT THE BEST WAY TO LIVE A SPIRITUAL LIFE IS TO AVOID MATERIALISTIC THINGS ALTOGETHER.” gifts are brought by the Christkind. In Spain, they are brought by the Wise Men. And in Italy they are brought by an old lady called Befana (although she brings them in early January). The traditions vary but the focus of the holiday for many children remains the same – material gifts. It seems then that the earliest socialization into materialism coincides with what could be a moment for socialization into spirituality. So how can we reconcile the two? An important starting point is to realize that “spirituality” can mean many different things to different people. It does not have to be tied to any particular religion, belief, or practice. It is something much deeper, and much broader. It is something within us and within others. Our spirit, whatever reference point one uses to understand it, is something that binds us together as human beings. It is something that should not be forgotten.
of consumerism!), perhaps it is the argument of spirituality that is the most convincing. Many will argue that the best way to live a spiritual life is to avoid materialistic things altogether. This is why many religious leaders are divorced from the material world and why seclusion and poverty are key foundations of monastic life. This is certainly one solution to the conundrum of being spiritual in a material world but it is one that is likely to be impractical for many of us. There are, however, other things we can do.
Although it can be tempting to get caught up in the world of material desire, we should also remember the importance of our own spirituality and the human connection. This should be a time of year for spending time with family, appreciating the people most important in our lives, and remembering the human connection that binds us all together!
Dr. Michael Ryan
ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF SOCIOLOGY (THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY IN CAIRO)
One solution is to avoid getting caught up in the frenzy of consumerism. Sure it’s fun to go to the mall and see the latest fashion and gizmos but we could also spend that time doing something more productive for the spirit. Egypt is an especially fruitful place to take trips to places of

EXPLORE YOUR SPIRITUAL SELF
Spirituality is very hard to define because it can have many contradicting meanings; it’s quite confusing because its definition is relative from one person to another. Some people connect it with religion and being committed to the church, mosque or religious practices. Others believe it has to do with being in touch with nature and the energies surrounding us. Even scientists disagreed on the “true” meaning of spirituality. Christina Puchalski, MD, Director of the George Washington Institute for Spirituality and Health, contends that “spirituality is the aspect of humanity that refers to the way individuals seek and express meaning and purpose and the way they experience their connectedness to the moment, to self, to others, to nature, and to the significant or sacred.” Mario Beauregard and Denyse O’Leary, researchers and authors of The Spiritual Brain, maintain that: “spirituality means any experience that is thought to bring the experiencer into contact with the divine (in other words, not just any experience that feels meaningful).” Spirituality is all about being kind to yourself, to people around you, and to any creature. It’s about being truthful, peaceful and eager to learn and know more. Spirituality is a continuous journey of soul-searching self-discovery, and exploring the universe around you. It’s all about having inner peace. However, the perspective of spirituality is constantly changing; its beauty lies in its limitlessness and infinity. You don’t have to be religious in order to be spiritual, however the more spiritual you become the more religion makes sense to you. Religion should only help and guide us through the materialistic world to maintain our spirituality. Spirituality is a way of life; it’s a deep concept involving confusing questions like what is our connection to the world around us, what is our purpose in life and what is destiny. That’s why scientists categorized religious and spiritual people into different temperaments which describe different groups of people across all religions. Read below and find out which temperament you belong to.

THE INTELLECTUAL • The intellectual; is all about figuring out and making sense of everything around them. It’s about understanding God, human nature, cosmos and spiritual truth through reasoning. • They always tend to compare, criticize, classify and put their ideas into words. • They rarely depend on feelings, emotions, psych and intuition. • The mind is always a powerful tool to use.
THE COMPASSIONATE SERVER • Existent in all religions. • They are always actively involved in helping others. • They can be interested in spiritual healing, prayer, or redemptive suffering. • They regard themselves as the “dogooders,” the “rescuers” or “saviors” of others, seeing and treating others merely as objects of their beneficence. • They always seek the well-being of all.
THE DOGMATIC BELIEVER • Needs to be identified with a specific religion. • Follows the ideas and the myths of religions. • Sometimes they fall into the trap of being narrow minded and apply the concept of “ I’m right, you’re wrong” • Gains from this identity: are certainty confidence, security and emotional closure.

THE DEVOTEE • They love and are devoted to the divine (Christ, Allah, Anadonia) • Found in all major religions • They’re sometimes so connected to God that they can feel “God and I are one, and yet it’s natural and appropriate to spontaneously worship the Beloved.” • They possess beautiful qualities: a)gratitude for God’s benevolence, b) shared joy and agape/love with the community of devotees, c) humility and simplicity (self-emptying), d) loyalty and obedience to the conscience (the voice within) and dedication to whatever this voice suggests, and e) awe-full wonder over the mystery of God’s transcendence and the power of God’s immanence in fellow sentient beings and as nature.
THE YOGI / PSYCHICEXPERIMENTER • They can access the alternate state of consciousness (ASC), which is a temporary change in one’s normal mental state without being considered unconscious. • They practice Yoga, and breathing techniques, and follow specific nutrition (vegetarian diet, Fasting.. etc.). • They tend to be introverts and they are always seeking a purer state of knowing and feeling.
THE RITUALISTCEREMONIALIST • Uses and manipulates outer elements and sometimes certain inner thoughts, images and feelings in order to experience atonement with and empowerment from the Divine Source of the universe. • Enjoys attending rituals and ceremonies, particularly religious ones. Sometimes they involve some kind of gray or black magic.

THE SENSUAL ECSTATIC • Similar to the ritualist and the yogi in manipulating the outer and inner matter to attain a different state of consciousness. • They’re much wilder and extroverted. • Ecstatic seems especially interested in losing the ego-sense through chaotification of personalitystructures via intense stimulation, wild dancing, rousing chanting, feasting, even sex and drugs.
THE HERMIT • They love spending time in solitude to gain more spirituality. • Some hermits belong to a monastery or community and will move back and forth between periods of isolation and companionship in a given day, week or month. • They may reach a point where they just lose interest in interacting with people. • E.g. HEALING PRACTICES THAT WORK FOR YOU
If you want to attain liveliness and wellness, enhance your spiritual health and improve your quality of life, then you are heading in the right direction. Nowadays, healing is becoming a mainstream concept for everyone. You might have not questioned the role of healing in your spiritual balance before, but at a certain point in time, probably when you are down, you will have the urge to. Practicing different forms of healing from Yoga to Reiki to Life Coaching to Past Life Regression therapy, allows for deeper self-exploration and overall well-being! Here are some of the healing practices that should help you feel alive and clear away the negative energetic blocks you get exposed to on a daily basis.
REIKI
CRYSTAL HEALING
PAST LIFE REGRESSION (PLR)
Reiki is a form of therapy that uses simple hands-on and visualization methods to improve the flow of life energy in a person. Originally, Reiki’s idea is that ‘life force energy’ flows through you in a way or another, and that is what makes you feel alive. So, if your energy [that you acquired] is low, you are more likely to become psychologically imbalanced, and vice versa. Reiki healers usually use their palms, or hand positions transferring this universal energy towards the seven chakras (energy lines) within the body. By doing this, they guarantee a state of equilibrium to the patient.
Another kind of healing is through the therapeutic application of gemstones and crystals. As a matter of fact, we have all come across people wearing gemstones specifically bracelets, claiming that they’re healthy and make them feel good about themselves. Based on the belief that crystals have energy, they actually release curative vibrations that are able to heal and improve wellness. Crystal practitioners usually place crystals on different parts of the body, namely chakras to build a form of energy grid that helps them attain a state of wellness.
We are all born in a void slate, but as we go through life, we acquire both wisdom and scars from hurtful experiences. Past Life Regression is a curative technique whereby the patient is hypnotically regressed back in time to previous life experiences, in many cases to resolve past life traumas or emotionally destructive events. We all carry memories from the past, and the unconscious memories inevitably affect us in so many negative ways, usually those experiences are somehow triggered in a way or another! The hypnotherapist healer helps you see these bad experiences in a new light,

where you would see, sense and feel the whole process. The healer works on freeing you from those chains of the past, helping you to fully live in the present, and experience the transitional states of your life facing those tragic events, commonly sudden death of a beloved one. YOGA We have all heard of the benefits of yoga and how it really is a favourable practice for psychological wellbeing. Yoga improves breathing, and focuses on the alignment of the body, by subconsciously increasing mind awareness, flexibility of body, and calmness of the spirit. This is all done by sticking up to a variety of positions that happen to cleanse your body of toxins, and your mind from negative thoughts. While doing that, you are connecting the mind and breath in a meditative way that you may not actually recognize. NEURO-LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING (NLP) Unlike many healing therapies, NLP is quite a distinctive healing process. NLP practitioners have an unusual model, examining the relationships between how you communicate (body language/linguistics), how you think (the neurology) and the observable patterns of behavior (how you react to situations in general). The neuro-linguistic therapist analyzes the phrases and the words you typically use, your body language, and even your facial expressions to identify your problem/illness. Accordingly, he/she builds a reality about your perception
of the disorder, and assists you to understand the real cause behind it. In many cases, we don’t acknowledge the real cause of our negative thoughts, or dealing with certain people in a negative way. While healing through NLP, you will begin to revisit your negative thoughts and replace them with positive ones. LIFE COACHING This is the practice of helping patients determine and achieve their goals in a much more simplistic way. In that case, a coach works in collaboration with the patients enabling them to define their personal success, and acknowledging the barriers they might not see in achieving that success. This form of dialogue helps the patient take full charge and control of all aspects of their life, from work, family issues to personal relationships and social life! HAND FORMATION THERAPY (HFT) This one is stunningly interesting and non traditional therapy program; you might have never thought about the role of graphology[ in healing] which is the study of handwriting to analyse personality traits and overall character. Now, you can heal yourself with Handwriting formation therapy; this is done by changing your handwriting, and while doing so, you will be introduced to a newer perspective of you; you subconsciously create a new neurological association in your brain, that would help eliminate the negative thoughts and behaviours you were used
to. By consistently doing this exercise, you will gradually retrain the subconscious mind. It is frequently treated as a means of diagnosis for traumatic experiences such as drugs, sexual abuse, and addictions. Handwriting Formation Therapy is evidence-based, and accepted by some private insurance companies for reimbursement. Our clients are ages 7 - 99 for the following types of stressors: recovery from abuse, giving up addictions, recovery from other traumatic experiences such as sexual abuse, quieting anger, calming anxiety, giving focus to ADD / ADHD, holistically managing and / or eliminating symptoms of mental illnesses, letting go of codependency, reversing depression, owning your eating habits instead of the food owning you, eliminating grief and feelings of guilty, overcoming fear, calming night terrors, PTSD, and more. Many of my clients have been able to completely removepsychological medications from their life and never look back however it is important to interact with your prescriber regarding this. In addition, HFT is so powerful that it has been proven effective 99.9% to completely stop juvenile crime recidivism rates since 2006. View the very powerful probation video.

OUR FAVOURITE SPIRITUAL PICKS THE ALCHEMIST It’s a short inspiring story of an Andalusian shepherd boy, Santiago, who travels from his homeland Spain to the Egyptian desert in search of a treasure buried in the Pyramids after having a recurrent dream about it. Along the way, he meets different people, who all point him in the direction of his quest. The most important one of them was the alchemist who tells him “when you really want something to happen, the whole universe conspires so that your wish comes true”. No one knows what the treasure is, or if Santiago will be able to surmount the obstacles along the way. But what starts out as a journey to find worldly goods turns into a discovery of the treasure found within. It is interesting to see that Coelho depicts the person who refuses to follow his dream as the person who refuses to see God, and that “every happy person carries God within him”.
THE SECRET In this book, you’ll learn how to use The Secret in every aspect of your life -- money, health, relationships, happiness, and in every worldly interaction. You’ll begin to understand the hidden, untapped power within you, and this revelation can bring joy to every aspect of your life. It’s all about using the law of attraction; It involves three steps: Ask the universe – you must be crystal clear about what you want, Believe – act, speak and think as though you have already received what you have asked for, Receive – feel great that it is coming to you. Feeling good sets up the necessary vibration to manifest the desire.
LIFE OF PIE Pi is a young Indian man, who like other youth of his age, is trying to figure out who he is and where he comes from. In his early age, Pi has been exposed to different religions, Hinduism, atheism, Islam and Christianity, that later played an important role in defining who he is. Throughout the movie, Pi’s family decides to move to Canada, and his father boards his valuable animals on a ship which then sinks. Pi finds himself drifting across the Pacific Ocean only by a tiger, after he loses all his family members! Truth be told, Pi, a name that meant a limitless number, is the perfect name for a boy who crosses all forms of limitations. This is highlighted when Pi’s father points out to him the role of Math and Science in solving questions about life!
CITY OF ANGELS City of Angels is an odd fusion of an unrealistic movie yet a successful one. A celestial angel, casted by Nicolas Cage, falls in love with a pragmatic surgeon, featuring Meg Ryan, is far from a mainstream thought. The movie’s theme carries with it the blissful chemistry that can happen between creatures in general. It pushes the possible boundaries of creation when the angel, who is normally invisible to others, unleashes his truth to the surgeon telling her about his love, and helping her to reach the great thereafter, the truth! The dramatic events climax to reach a poetic level seldom reached in a mainstream movie. The movie attempts to raise questions about faith and love.

CAPRICORN
(December 23 - January 20) Strenghths: Responsible Patient Ambitious Resourceful Loyal Weaknesses: Dictatorial Inhibited Conceited Distrusting Unimaginative FAVORITE COLOURS: DARK GREEN AND DARK BLUE LUCKY NUMBERS: 2 AND 8 BEST MATCHES: TAURUS, VIRGO AND PISCES BEST DAY: SATURDAY Capricorns are very ambitious people, they always have something they are pursuing and they want their lives to be fulfilled and important. They are extremely patient and will wait a long time for something they want, when the opportunity arises, they will plan their steps carefully to others, they might appear hesitant but this is not true, they know that there is only one chance to succeed and they are filing together their information to take the proper steps to accomplish their goal with flying colours, not just second rate. They also have a very active mind and strong powers of concentration. Capricorns like
being in control of their surroundings and everyone in their life. They are always very cautious but this only to survey the situation before leaping in, they will never make a hasty jump in. They accept change but introduce it slowly so they can get used to it and incorporate it into their life. Capricorns tend to see life in black or white, definitive’s only. There are no gray areas for these are areas that are not understood and this makes Capricorn feel uncomfortable. They tend to be in control in a romantic relationship that way they are never vulnerable to another person.
“Be patient with Capricorn, underneath that aloof, indifferent outside lies a physical, passionate loyal person that will come out when the time is right, once you have proven yourself.”
