botanical Greenery, greenery and more greenery

Continuing on from last year’s surge in greenery weddings, botanicals are still as popular and it’s easy to see why. Swapping flowers for foliage is still the top choice for many couples to create a lush natural and lavish feel to their wedding day. The botanical theme really brings the outdoors in, with leafly plants aplenty draped on everything from the seating plan to the table centres. Plam leaves are set to be big this season, along with herbs, Fern and Ivy also emerging as popular greenery choices’.

BRIDAL STYLE

trend

We all knew the Royal Wedding of Harry and Meghan was going to have some effect on what’s trending in Bridal. So let’s see the styles to beat this wedding season!

Capes

A new addition to the wedding wardrobe, capes are blowing up on the wedding circuit, to add a more sophisticated bridal look. Brides are going for a softer touch with a floral or feathered cape as an alternative to wearing a veil. These can then be taken off for the evening’s entertainment, for a more informal look to dance the night away.

Ruffles are back with a vengeance this season, and are appearing in every way possible when it comes to the bridal look. From a mermaid ruffle along the bottom, to tiered ruffles down one side, elongating the bride, ruffles manage to create a fun, yet regal look. Summer brides can even opt for a dress cut at the knee for a ballerina ruffle effect that’s fun and informal.

{ BRIDESMAIDS }

thegirls here come

Choosing who to have as a bridesmaid can be one of two things: straight forward or tricky depending on family dynamics and friendships. The last thing any bride wants to do is rock the boat or cause offence by appointing some bridesmaids and leaving others out. It’s a tricky situation so tread very carefully. The most important thing is to choose girls you feel closest to. If you have life long friends, then these are obvious candidates but equally if you or the groom have a younger sister or a niece or close cousin, these too are strong possibilities. Choosing a bridesmaid can be like walking through a minefield but don’t be tempted to appoint too many attendants just for the sake of pleasing everyone. There’s no real limit on the number of bridesmaids a bride can have - but you need to be sensible from a cost and taste perspective. After all it is your big day and you don’t want to be overshadowed by a bevy of bridesmaids. Another factor to decide is whether you want older bridesmaids or younger ones. Remember if you have very young bridesmaids or flower girls, you will need someone older to keep an eye on them as they carry out their duties. Most brides choose a maid-of-honour which is usually someone they have known for a very long time. She will be your right hand woman and help organise all aspects of the wedding along the planning route. Older bridesmaids form the bride’s support network and should be on hand to help with any wedding planning issues as they arise. On the day itself, bridesmaids are still there to assist the bride and, as members of the bridal party, should be on hand to welcome and host guests.

Natural & neutral

Neutrals are a popular colour choice all year round, from off-whites and greys to subtle sages and silvers. Keeping on the metallic theme, sequins and sparkle are up there too, whether you’re looking for winter glam or summer shimmer.

Blush, pinks and peaches are still high on the trending list along with pastels. Popular pale hues include lilacs, aquas, lemons, and blues. Pale powder blue is a big hitter for this year and suits most skin tones and age ranges. We’re also expecting to see a surge of purples again, but forget Cadbury, 2019 is going to be all about Ultra Violet.

Deep and rich

Deep colours are big news, especially when we enter the later months, look out for blacks, burgundies and navy blues, with velvet making a huge comeback for the cooler months.

We’re also seeing lots of Jewel tones in the new season’s bridesmaid dresses. So, lots of ruby reds, emerald greens and topaz yellows are expected at many weddings this year, with focus more on block colour, rather than florals or patterned dresses.

Shoulders on show

When it comes to style, it’s all about having your shoulders on display. Opt for a Bardot cut, off shoulder cap sleeve or halter neck, and be sure to watch out for bridesmaid jumpsuits in off the shoulder styles too. Kelsey Rose

CHRIS & ANNABELLE’S

perfectly pastel day

Photography by Matt Nicholls Photography www.mattnichollsphotography.co.uk

WHEN: Thursday 27th July 2017 WHERE: Sketchley Grange Hotel, Leicestershire

Warwickshire couple Chris and Annabelle Powell-Smith enjoyed a fabulous wedding day with their guests at Sketchley Grange Hotel in Leicestershire - and they still have their honeymoon to look forward to. The couple, who married in 2017, are planning to take their four-year-old son to Disneyland in Florida next year. Chris and Annabelle who met through a friend in 2011, got engaged a couple of years later in 2013. They began to plan their wedding and then found the perfect venue quite by chance. Annabelle said: “My mum and dad bought us an overnight stay at Sketchley Grange in Hinckley as a present and while we were there, we just fell in love with the hotel and spa. It just felt like the right place for us to get married and we had a fabulous day.’’ Chris, who works for Warwickshire Police, and Annabelle, who is an account manager with the NHS supply

chain, had over 100 guests to the wedding reception and a further 30 for the evening party when they all enjoyed a hog roast, singer and DJ. For the service, when the couple wrote their own vows, Annabelle couldn’t decide on which wedding dress to wear - so in the end chose two, one for the daytime celebrations and a second for the evening party. She said: “For the daytime celebrations I wore a Princess line white gown with a lace detail bodice and a tulle skirt along with a cathedral length veil. I actually bought a plain dress to start with and my seamstress Lisa Haggen did a wonderful job at making it exactly what I wanted. In the evening I wore a fitted

‘I particularly enjoyed seeing my wedding dress when it was finished as it was exactly what I had in mind’ Grecian-style sparkly gown.’’ For the ceremony Annabelle had five bridesmaids, all wearing pastel colours with dresses in baby pink, baby blue, lilac, mint and soft lemon. Her flower girl wore a white dress with a pastel petal design on the skirt. The couple’s son was a pageboy. “The only problem at the wedding was that the flowers arrived a little darker than expected. Our photographer Matt Nicholls and videographer Oliver Mitchell were both fantastic and helped us make the flowers look much better,’’ said Annabelle. After the service all the guests enjoyed a traditional three-course wedding breakfast. The couple’s tiered wedding cake had a vintage feel and included lots of cupcakes made by Annabelle and her mum.

On the morning of the wedding the couple were still undecided whether to have their wedding service inside or outside. “The hotel has a beautiful pegoda but it kept raining on and off so we had to make the decision to hold the service inside. We still had a super day and everything else, apart from the flowers, went to plan. “The months leading up to any wedding are very stressful, especially with all the planning, but everything went well and it was a fabulous day,’’ said Annabelle. “I particularly enjoyed seeing my wedding dress when it was finished as it was exactly what I had in mind and the finished article was perfect. All the staff at Sketchley Grange were amazing and we couldn’t have asked for more.’’

RICHARD & MANDY’S

day with a difference

WHEN: Sunday 28th May 2017 WHERE: St Nicholas Church, Upper Cumberworth / Burbage Moor, Peak District

Richard and Mandy Wilson wanted a wedding with a difference - and their guests totally loved every minute of it. Richard and Mandy, who met in 2012, put their wedding ideas into practice when a close friend offered them their Peak District premises for their unusual and informal wedding reception. After getting married at their village church on the outskirts of Huddersfield, Richard and Mandy with their 120 guests headed for Derbyshire for a hoedown and hog roast meal complete with authentic outdoor pizza oven. Everyone was asked to dress casually with jeans, waistcoats and even cowboy boots being the

18 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

order of the day. Mandy said: “We decided straight away that we wanted something different, very informal and casual. Basically we wanted a great party for everyone to enjoy and that’s exactly what we did.’’ For the church wedding, Mandy wore a fitted Empire-line ivory gown with a crossover bodice and diamante trim. She carried a mixed bouquet of vibrant coloured flowers including pinks, reds and greens. Her three bridesmaids - her daughter Rosalita, her god daughter Charlotte and Richard’s

niece Ella - all wore dusky pink dresses with diamantes and carried smaller versions of the bride’s bouquet. Mandy said: “Richard wanted us to have a traditional church wedding but afterwards everything was far from traditional. We gave out wedding invitations like a Willy Wonka golden ticket, asked everyone to dress casually and decked up the venue in a rustic theme including bales of hay for seating. “We were very lucky with the weather as the day before, when we went to put up the marquee, it was really windy and we had a struggle to get the marquee up. On our wedding day, the weather was beautiful and the day after it turned again, to rain. So we timed

it just right. “Everything went to plan on the day. We hired a bar and the food was fabulous. All our guests enjoyed a hoedown and then a disco afterwards. “The whole wedding had a real rustic theme, even our wedding cake was made to look like tree bark. Everyone really enjoyed the day and it had a real party feel. “The whole day worked out just as we had imagined.’’ Mandy said: “Richard proposed on Valentine’s Day two years before we got married which gave us plenty of time to plan our very informal wedding day.’’ Following their big day, the couple enjoyed a honeymoon to Lake Garda in Northern Italy.

ADRIAN & HEATHER’S

magical day WHEN: Saturday 24th March 2018 WHERE: Best Western Plus The West Retford Hotel

They say things happen in threes - but for recently married couple Adrian and Heather Morris, everything certainly happened at once in the run-up to their special day.

20 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

Just after the couple got engaged in November 2015, they found out Heather was expecting their son Robert and then a week before the big day, the whole proceedings were thrown into chaos when Heather’s dad Robert Hutchinson suffered a heart attack. Heather said: “We only really began to plan the wedding after Robert, who is now two years old, was born, and then dad was taken ill the week before but he was

still determined to walk me down the aisle.’’ However, the whole family enjoyed a fabulous wedding day on March 24 this year with Heather’s dad able to complete his fatherly duty - with a well-earned rest afterwards. “Dad is still recovering but he managed to walk me down the aisle and our son Robert was a pageboy so everything worked out well in the end and we had a magical day.’’

The couple’s big day took place at the Best Western West Retford Hotel after the couple secured a great deal and managed to bring the whole wedding day in on an amazing budget of £7,500. As well as a great deal on the venue, Heather also won £200’s worth of stationery in a competition and did a lot of the planning herself. Adrian, who works in security intelligence, and accountant Heather met when a friend did a spot of matchmaking

SHOPPING LIST

‘We had an amazing day all on a tight budget and it was definitely a day to remember’ to get them together. For the wedding ceremony, which was held outdoors in the hotel’s landscaped gardens under a stunning white pergola, the bride wore a fitted ivory gown with lace and pearl detail. She carried a bouquet of artificial baby blue flowers. She was attended by two bridesmaids and a flower girl who all wore blue dresses and carried bouquets of ivory flowers. The overall blue and white colour

theme of the day included a threetier wedding cake which featured blue and white tiers decorated with blue ribbon. Heather said: “Everything went to plan on the day and it just flew by. We both had a really lovely day and the best part of the wedding was when Adrian said I do. During the outdoor ceremony, the weather was a little overcast but the rain held off. “I can remember trying to take a moment and sit down to take it all

in but then we would be whisked off by the photographer or to talk to guests. Before the wedding, everything happened at once but all the planning came together perfectly. “I can’t thank the staff at the hotel enough who were just great and the food was fabulous. We had an amazing day all on a tight budget and it was definitely a day to remember.’’ After the service, the 50 guests enjoyed a traditional wedding breakfast and were later joined by more friends and family for an evening party which included a disco and a hot buffet supper.

a change IN THE

hair

When it comes to your wedding hair, it’s easy to want to try something new and completely change up your style.

TWISTED But remember, you still want to look like you on your wedding day, so it’s important to do what works for you and your hair. All hairstyles were not created equal! So let’s take a look at what’s trending in wedding hair!

Statement Bows

Remember wearing a bow in your hair as a child? Well bows are back for 2018/19 and they are in! Brave brides are opting for large statement bows to replace a veil; these work particularly well with high buns as a feature piece. If you don’t want a chunky bow, opt for a thin ribbon for a daintier feel.

Boho

BRAIDED

Still as popular as ever, Boho is leading the way for brides who want an effortless look for their wedding day. We’re seeing the just-rolled-outof-bed look to be on point for the new wedding season.

Braids

Fresh Flowers

Fresh Flowers are still popular this season; dainty daisies affixed into hair or tropical florals woven into plaits are two styles we’re seeing a lot of.

Messy Updo

As we’re moving away from the sleek look; the updo in its many forms has been brought right up to date with texture being added to the hair and strands of hair pulled out and left to hang around the face. Imagine soft chignons with loose hair strands either side to frame your face (a-la-Meghan Markle’s wedding hair) or a high textured bun for your bridal hair.

Half Up Half Down Popular for those brides who have longer wavy hair, the half up do incorporates plaits to pull the hair back off the face and create a loose yet controlled look.

Braids have been changed up for this year by being incorporated into messy buns, and side braids creating a feature piece for braided bridal hair.

Low Ponytail MESSED UP

Always in fashion, a low pony is a great yet simple choice for the bride wanting to go elegant with her bridal hair. Teamed up with a ribbon, this might be the runaway trend for this year.

Twisted Hair

Many brides are loving this look this year for a different take on a braid or plait. The twisted do is easy to achieve, yet adds another element to the bridal hair giving it edge. Brides are also creating twisted low up dos for a low-bun style that looks fab!

{ FLOWERS }

beautiful

blooms

GREENERY

Your choice of flowers is one of the main talking points of any wedding. There’s so much choice and so many styles, it can be hard to know where to begin.

We’ve rounded up some of our favourites with a few tips to help you on your way to choosing your beautiful blooms.

Greenery

This year - and looking ahead to 2019 - green foliage is still big news for wedding flowers following on from Pantone’s colour of the year 2017 - greenery and the 2018 Royal Wedding. Just as St George’s Chapel in Windsor was dressed with green foliage, white garden roses, foxgloves and peonies, you too can opt for the same stunning green and white combination although obviously on a smaller scale and to suit your budget. This combination of natural greens with paper-white flowers is the hottest look around, according to top flower designers and florists.

WILD & WINTERY

24 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

Natural

The whole ‘natural’ look can also be captured in one of the season’s other big looks: meadow flowers. The key to a ‘meadow’ bouquet is to ask for light and textured foliage combined with lots of small florals and buds with just a few bolder blooms to stand out. Pastel shades such as soft pinks, lilacs and creams will continue to be popular to create a real feeling of romance and traditional English garden.

Seasonal

Your choice of flowers can often depend on the time of year. Choosing flowers that are in season can often be best for your budget as out of season flowers will be mush more difficult to source. If you have a spring or summer wedding, then delicate soft pastel shades are perfect. However if you’re booking a winter wedding, then deeper colours seem better suited to the season, although some brides opt for winter white, champagne or pale blue blooms. Likewise, autumn bouquets conjure up thoughts of seasonal rich shades with couples opting for burgundies, navy blues and burnt oranges.

Time to prepare

At the beginning of your search for the perfect flowers, set a budget and stick to it. So that a florist can plan your wedding flowers to perfection, it’s a good idea to give several months notice ahead of the big day. With some florists being booked up a year and more in advance it’s a good idea to meet with your florist soon after your planning has begun.

hot

cakes Possibly our favourite article to write (because who doesn’t like talking about cake) is what’s hot in wedding cakes for this season.

NAKED

Naked

Popularity for naked cakes is at an all-time high with no sign of slowing down. These cakes lend themselves well to rustic and casual themed weddings, looking completely effortless but tasting amazing. Couples are adding fresh fruits atop these cakes for a fresh and inviting look.

BLACK Photographed at I Do Wedding Exhibitions - Ice Sheffield

Botanical

We’re seeing lots of real floral and greenery accents on cakes this new season. With a lot of focus on cactus decorations believe it or not; watch those spikes though if you get a slice!

Gold accents

Veering off from the full metallic display this wedding season, we’re seeing a lot of gold decoration in wedding cakes, whether it’s gold leaf, or gold painted fondant displayed like a regal crown on the top tier. Gold is in!

Black

A new emerging trend this season is black wedding cakes; with the addition of gold accents, this is tipped to be a big trend next year. Mixed with different textures such as ruffles and baroque detailing, a black wedding cake is a real statement centrepiece for your wedding.

Celestial

GOLD 26 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

Taking influence from the geode cake, celestial looking cakes are in for next season. With marbled tiers complimenting a painted starlit sky, couples can cut into a black as night sponge for a dramatic yet delectable effect.

BOTANICAL

HAND PAINTED

Hand painted

Photographed at I Do Wedding Exhibitions - Ice Sheffield

Focusing in on hand-painted cake, brides are now going for hand painted floral cake creations, eliminating the need for real flower decoration. This creates a dainty and feminine looking wedding cake that’s pleasing on the eye.

Square

Starting to emerge and sure to be trending soon, are square wedding cakes. Three square tiers offer something different to the round cake (and you get more slices out of them too!). From naked squares, to flavoured fondant covered loveliness, the square wedding cake is one to watch!

White fondant

A mainstay for the new wedding season, traditional cakes are as popular as ever, and lend themselves well to any theme of wedding too. We’re seeing white cakes mixed with gold tones and made square, for a cake that’s traditional with a modern twist!

SQUARE

Geometric

We’re still seeing geometric cakes, but as more of an accent, rather than a full on geometric design all over the cake. Whether hand painted, or cut out fondant shapes displayed along the cake in a sweeping fashion, geometric is holding its own in the trending stakes.

To top it all off!

We’re also seeing a lot of funky cake toppers if you want to add a bit of something extra personalised to your cake. From the bride & groom’s names to lego characters, and even jigsaw pieces that fit together with the couple’s names on, adding a super romantic touch.

{ INVITES }

you’re

invited

There’s nothing more exciting than a little paper prettyness landing on your doorstep and giving your guests their first glimpse into your big day.

So you’ve set the date, booked your venue and have decided on your day’s style, it’s now time to announce it to your loved ones.

Save the dates

Give your guests the heads up with a ‘Save the Date’ card. Usually sent out around 12 months ahead, they are especially useful when getting married abroad or during busy times like school holidays, bank holidays and Christmas. Normally reserved for all day guest’s, they’re not a necessity, but will increase your guests chance of attendance.

Your style

Whether you’re opting for a traditional affair, a relaxed event or something completely wacky, your invitation design and wording should hint towards the formality of your wedding, including your colour and theme.

28 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

Sending your invitations

Once you’ve confirmed the finer details, it’s time to send your main invites. They should include all the details your guest needs to know; when, where and rsvp details. Additional information you may wish to include is gift details, recommended accommodation, dress code (if there is one), children (if opting for an adult only day). The general rule is to send them a few months ahead of the big day. Some couples choose to send them 6 months or more ahead, especially when organising a large event or around busy times, to ensure everything is confirmed in advance and saving last minute stresses. { AWARDS }

what a night! A fantastic evening was had by all at I Do’s annual Wedding Awards celebrating local wedding suppliers and supporting a very worthy charity. Now in its fourth year, the I Do Wedding Awards have become one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the local wedding industry’s calendar. The stunning Ballroom at Sheffield City Hall once again played host to this glamorous evening as the top wedding suppliers from the Yorkshire, Humberside and East Midlands regions came together to celebrate their collective successes. Decided entirely by the votes of the brides and grooms who have personally used these wedding suppliers, the 2018 awards saw over 400 entrants, with over 100 making the finals and 25 being announced as category winners. In true Hollywood glitz style, a red carpet arrival and champagne reception welcomed the evening’s guests and made them feel like a million dollars as they mingled and excitedly conversed about the festivities to come. Host for the evening, local celebrity

Stephanie Hirst, welcomed over 250 guests to a fine dining four course meal.

TALK ABOUT A CHARITABLE EVENT!

Part of the awards, as well as honouring our local wedding suppliers, is to raise much needed funds for local charities. The chosen charity for 2018 was Prostate Cancer UK. A charity prize draw was held during the evening and guests were invited to show their support with a minimum donation of £10. This got them a Willy Wonka style prize chocolate bar, in which 20 winning golden tickets were hidden. Each Golden ticket won a fantastic prize donated by our generous suppliers and affiliates. In total, we raised over £2000 for this very worthy cause. A huge thank you goes out to all that donated prizes and money during the evening. KEEP IT CASUAL

If you’re not the traditional or formal type, then why not keep it cool with a casual ensemble? If it suits your wedding style, then forget the top hat and tails or morning suit, throw caution to the wind and go for a two-piece. During the summer months you could drop the jacket all together and roll your sleeves up for a cool casual summer look.

SMART STYLING

Black is back, from smart suits to tuxedo’s, but more than just a black suit, tuxedos are back with a new look for the new season; sticking with black lapels but changing up the colour to bright blues and burgundies.

VELVET/BURGUNDY Whether the groom opts for velvet accents such as a bowtie, braces or pocket square, or goes all out with their entire outfit in rich burgundy velvet, this fabric is looking to be a popular choice amongst modern grooms. Blue may be stealing the show at the moment, but burgundy is creeping in for both full suits and accessories. Watch this space!

MOODY BLUES Torre

Still a firm favourite for groomswear is blue suits, and although navy has been a mainstay for a long while, we’re seeing an uptake in brighter blues, along with pale and pastel blues.

MIX & MATCH

Many grooms are throwing the rule book of a traditional matching 3 piece out the window and opting for a mismatched suit for the big day, with contrasting colours and patterns including check and paisley, for a unique look to remember.

food FOR thought No longer an afterthought at the wedding reception, couples are turning it up a notch by having the food as the centre of attention with the wedding day revolving entirely around it. Let’s see what’s on the menu. Floral flavours are in

Edible flowers and floral flavours like elderflower and lavender are really skyrocketing in popularity this year. A welcome addition to wedding menus, these flavours are also being incorporated into cocktails too.

Locally sourced fare

Couples want to know more about where their food comes from these days. So free-range and locally bred/sourced foodie fare is a must for the wedding menu. Some couples are also incorporating fresh foods that are served as they are; raspberries and cherry tomatoes offer wonderful flavour with no prep work.

Meat free menus

With the increase in vegan culture and focus largely heading towards meat free, many newlyweds are opting for a one size fits all approach with their wedding menus. No more separate menus for those who don’t eat meat; couples are creating menus to bring everyone together to experience a totally plant-based wedding menu.

46 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

Miniature menu

Food served in tiny proportions is looking to be a big hit in new season weddings. Many couples are opting for scaled down versions of their favourites, so their guests can snack and converse at the same time. Mini doughnuts, quiches, slider burgers and chocolate dipped strawberries are just a few of what’s trending in miniature!

Comfort food

Whether that’s a cheese toastie with a tomato soup shooter, or a gravy filled Yorkshire pudding with an artisanal twist, the focus on comfort food has grown massively this wedding season. Comfort food menus can be completely personalised to the happy couples’ taste.

Mobile food vans

With everything from pizza to burritos, mobile food vans are brilliant at serving up a bit of what you fancy, and couples are even opting for multiple vans to offer more choice for their guests. Think fish and chips next to hot freshly cooked doughnuts and you’re onto a winner!

COMFORT

Raising the bar There’s a huge variety of mobile trucks available serving all your favourite alcoholic beverages in re-invented quirky styles! A great idea for self catered and outdoor weddings.

Gin

Still steaming ahead in popularity, Gin bars are sweeping the wedding nation. With so many varieties on offer, it would take a true connoisseur to test them all. We volunteer!

Prosecco

Always a winner, prosecco bars are inviting guests to pimp theirs up by way of fresh fruits and flavoured liqueurs for a truly personalised drink!

Craft Ale

One for the more traditional drinkers among wedding guests, but daring enough to try craft ale. These mobile bars seem to be doing really well at weddings right now, and boast artisan ales and beers from all over the world, so there’s never a lack of choice whatever you fancy.

Something different

For the non-alcoholic guests (including children), there’s allsorts to go at including milkshake bars, smoothie vans and even artisanal coffee trucks offering great alternatives to boozy beverages.

Table centres help add height to the table décor with metallic geometric vases and bell jars featuring greenery for a natural look that’s both modern and industrial. There’s also emphasis on foliage table runners, leaving out the flowers for a more laid back, bare look. The nature theme continues

with the addition of laser cut wooden place names and small foliage bouquets as a wedding favours. Also emerging is a celestial décor theme, featuring crystals and gemstones as both favours and name places for a sparkly touch that your guests can enjoy.

Wreaths and blossom trees are in this season, with an overarching influence on a natural, yet refined decor look for the ceremony and throughout the venue. Metallic table runners work well with stripped back floral arrangements, featuring fern and lavender accents, which give a subtle nod to Pantone’s colour of the year, Ultra Violet. Also big news on the decor

scene are floral chandeliers hanging from the ceiling with green accents and florals draped throughout the venue. Industrial hung lighting is also emerging as a popular option, with the addition of suspended geometric shapes dotted throughout. Perspex chairs are another emerging trend this season, creating a clean backdrop that can work well with any décor theme.

rustic

woodland Rustic and woodland are still storming ahead in wedding décor popularity, with brides opting for a relaxed, stripped back feel to their wedding. Table Décor

Log slices are still really popular in rustic weddings and add the perfect base for wild flower centrepieces in mason jars tied with brown string. Single white floating tea lights also feature in rustic décor and give a warm relaxing glow for the perfect laid back atmosphere, which completes the rustic theme.

Favours and Nameplaces

Rustic favours in the form of seeds to grow your own flowers are popular rustic choices. Some couples are also opting for home-made preserves or liqueurs in tiny mason jars as a quirky, yet rustic gift for their guests. Small log slices with guest names printed on for name places also double up as a nice gift for the guests to take home after the wedding.

50 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

Ceremony Décor

Hessian chair covers, with single sunflowers tied into the bow are a simple, yet colourful addition to any ceremony décor. Rustic weddings are also featuring woven branch archways with fairy lights wrapped around for the perfect focal point to say your ‘I Do’s’.

Reception Décor

Rustic wooden signs for ‘this way to the reception’ or wooden plaques with song lyrics emblazoned on them are still big hitters. Upturned wooden crates are also being fashioned as guest seating and as plinths for love letter displays. Wine barrels have been upcycled into tables for popcorn stations or even into ice boxes for bottled drinks for the guests to enjoy.

unique venue

styling

From her base on the Derbyshire/ Nottinghamshire border, Hayley Smith is perfectly placed to offer her unique wedding venue styling expertise to couples across the East Midlands and beyond. Whatever your style, Hayley is full of inspirational ideas to help make your wedding day as memorable as possible. Whether you’re looking for a glamorous reception space or a rustic feel, Hayley can create the right mood and ambience for your special celebration. Her expertise has even been called on by the I Do Wedding Magazine when she was asked to dress the venue for the annual

56 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

awards presentation. She has also recently created stunning venues for High Street name launches including Herbal Essence shampoo and the Co-op Food organisation. As a mother of five children, Hayley is well used to being superorganised and can guarantee to cover every aspect of venue decor you would wish for. She said: “I’d always been quite artistic and started off making hand written signs etc. Then I inherited

some chair covers and the venue business just grew and grew as people asked me to dress their wedding venues. Now I am very proud to be able to work at some of the best regional wedding venues and offer a full range of table decorations, floral displays, chair dressing, centrepieces, starlight backdrops and much more.’’ For those essential finishing touches, Hayley can supply extras such as a large chocolate fountain, white postbox for wedding cards and bespoke welcome boards. Hayley is now a recommended supplier and included in wedding packages at both Nottingham’s Eastwood Hall and the Nottingham Belfry Hotel. Such is her success, she is already taking bookings for 2021 and advises couples to book as soon as possible. Her service begins with a consultation with the happy couple to determine their exact requirements and budget. She said: “Let me take some of the stress out of organising a wedding. I can liaise with the venue and then obviously return the

day after the wedding to remove everything. I am more than happy to fit with couples and meet them during the daytime, in the evening or at the weekend for a consultation.’’ A few weeks before the big day, Hayley always organises another get-together with the bride and groom to check all the details and put them at their ease over a coffee and even a cake or afternoon tea. She said: “You always find it is all the little extras that make the difference to a wedding day but planning the big day is a very stressful time and I am here to help.’’ Hayley is currently making the finishing touches to her Hayley Smith Wedding Planner Book, which will be available for sale on Amazon. Full of ideas, it is the perfect way to keep all your notes and plans together. Mixology

Pizza making

It’s time to plan the hen/stag party, and your maid of honour/best man doesn’t know where to start. Luckily for you, I Do have it covered! We’ve rounded up some top stag and hen activities for you and your party.

‘It’s A Knockout’/ The hen-limpics

Brilliant for the competitive types; hen and stag parties are centering round ‘It’s A Knockout’ style parties, perfect to get the adrenaline pumping and pit your skills against your mates.

Paintballing

We couldn’t write about stag and hen party activities without this one. Paintballing is still high up the list for what stag and hens are opting for and let’s face it, everyone loves to take a cheap shot when their mate’s not looking. Protect your unmentionables!

Creative workshops

These are always a popular choice with both stags and hens. Creative workshops such as mixology classes to make cocktails, sushi making classes and even pizza making are all top of the list for getting your hands dirty, and getting something to eat/drink at the end of it!

Outdoor activities

For the explorer type, anything that involves getting outside in the fresh air is always going to be a winner. Go climbing or abseiling with your hen/stag party, or try canoeing or kayaking for a real adrenaline rush from Parson House Outdoor Pursuits Centre.

Brewery tour

A brewery tour can be paired with a trip away, such as visiting the Guinness Brewery in Dublin and learning how to pour the perfect pint! Or go even further afield with a brewery tour in Berlin or Prague!

Party bus

A party bus is a firm favourite among both stags and hens and brings the party right to your doorstep. Pair this with a UK city break to Newcastle, Liverpool or Brighton and see the sights at the same time!

Paintballing

Having a ‘mixed’ celebration

We’re seeing a huge increase in mixed stag and hen parties, with more and more couples opting to have a shared celebration with everyone together. These days, the happy couple tend to have more of a shared friend group, which makes a mixed celebration a no-brainer. Couples are opting for getaways altogether to places like Amsterdam or Marbella, with other couples choosing Bride VS Groom days where they’re pitted against each other in activities like paintballing or assault courses for adrenaline-fuelled fun!
