Celebrate your Curves Bridal studio owner Jane Palmer has always celebrated her own curves and now she is helping brides show off their own curvaceous figures on their wedding day. It was when she was looking for her own wedding dress 10 years ago that she realised there was a gap in the market for a specialist bridal studio to cater for girls who needed sizes from 14 to 34 plus. Jane, who now runs Celebrating Curves award-winning bridal studio in Hackenthorpe, Sheffield, says catering for curvy brides is her passion and she loves to make sure that every one of her brides loves every minute of choosing her dress for the big day. She said: “I started the business three years ago and now get lots of word-of-mouth recommendations. I also get girls coming from out of the local area because they have heard about my specialist shop. I have had brides travelling from Manchester, Liverpool, Hull and even as far away as Cardiff. “When I was looking for my bridal gown, it seemed that all the dresses seemed to be displayed

or photographed on size 8 models which was very frustrating. Now I try and show brides some of the dresses on real brides from their official wedding photographs. “I don’t believe that brides to be should have to settle for a dress, just because of their shape or size. It’s important to me that the dresses I stock are fashion forward and up to the minute designs. Jane said: “I try and get everyone involved in the dress appointment. Brides can choose a time and date to come in and try on dresses and bring friends and family with them. Appointments are available seven days a week. “When I am doing my buying for the bridal studio, I always think about how each dress will look on the different sizes that I cater for. I firmly believe that a girl’s curves should be celebrated.’’ Jane’s bridal studio is now award-winning as she has picked

up three awards in as many years. Awards include being the winner in 2016 and runner-up in 2017 for outstanding customer service in the North of England Wedding Awards. She was also a finalist in the 2018 I Do wedding awards. Bridal collections at Celebrating Curves include designs from top industry names including Sophia Tolli and Eternity Bride including the Christina Wu and Art Couture ranges. New ranges are arriving all the time and Jane has recently been buying for the new 2020 Spring bridal designs. Celebrating Curves also stocks a range of mother-of-the-bride outfits as well as dresses for bridesmaids in sizes 4 to 32 and flower girls. Currently a multi-buy

offer is available on bridesmaid dresses, buy four and get a fifth free of charge. To add the finishing touch to any bridal outfit, Jane also stocks a choice of accessories including veils, hair pieces, jackets, belts and more. Take a look at the website www.celebratingcurves.co.uk for more information, contact details and opening times. The website is also a great place to read testimonials from Jane’s delighted customers. Here’s what one delighted bride had to say: “Well I finally took the plunge and visited a wedding dress shop. Any anxious curvy brides out there need to visit this place. Jane is amazing and makes you feel so at ease. The shop is booked solely for your appointment and it’s a large private dressing room with a separate room to show your entourage. What a pleasant experience and I said ‘yes’ to a beautiful dress. I actually feel like a bride now and not just a wedding planner.”

Bang on trend We’ve searched high and low to bring you the booming bridal trends of the new wedding season, so here they are.

Mori Lee

1 Bridal Blazer/ Suit

These are tipped to be massive in 2020 weddings and will take a bride seamlessly from day to night with the removal of the blazer for the evening reception. They’re also perfect for the bride wanting a simpler, more polished look for her wedding day.

2 Satin

Think Hollywood glamour dripping in diamonds, draped across a chaise longue, and that’s the look we’re seeing with this fabric in wedding gowns. Simple but classically elegant.

3 Bows

Bows are a trend that we thought would come and go, but they’ve been changed up for this season and made to look loose and effortless. Still a feature piece on the dress, but with one exception, loose bows are now featured on the front of many bridal gowns this season. This is one trend to watch.

4 Dip Hems

Short at the front and long in the back! These bridal gowns add an air of ‘Yes I have arrived!’ and also allow for a super long train to add a dramatic bridal effect. A lot of the high-low gowns we’re seeing also have floral or feathered accents to add a 3d feature finish.

5 Feathers

An emerging trend at the end of 2018, feathered gowns are now in full force this season. We’re seeing a lot of feathered hems and feathered cuffs in bridalwear as well as full feathered trains that float across the floor as the bride makes her entrance.

6 All Change

Brides aren’t just buying one dress anymore, they simply have to have a day and a night wedding gown. For the bride who wants the best of both, one gown just isn’t enough, and why should it be? Create an entrance at both the ceremony and the reception, with all eyes on you at all times.

7 Crochet

Not for the faint-hearted bride, as crochet won’t hide any flaws, but rather will show your every curve off to all your wedding guests. We’re predicting sheer crochet gowns to be a firm favourite among boho weddings, as they lend themselves well to a relaxed wedding vibe.

8 Statement Sleeves

They’re calling it the return of the renaissance and it’s easy to see why. Fluted, flared and puff sleeves are all in and adding a statement to the wedding gown. Once tipped as old-fashioned, sheer sleeves are also now back up in popularity, and allow the bride to show a little skin without being on ‘full display’ so to speak. Expect to see a lot of statement sleeves in the new bridal collections.

HOT or NOT?... 9 Wedding Shorts

This may be a trend that remains firmly with the catwalks of London Fashion week, but bridal shorts are a firm favourite among Spring weddings! These could also be a big hit if you’re getting married abroad.

you

The role of your maid of honour is an important one, which is why it’s important you choose the right person who will be there for you no matter what. Here are a few things the maid of honour should do as part of her role.

Go wedding dress shopping

This is a fun thing to do especially if your maid of honour is your best friend. It’s also important they be totally honest with you about how you look. No saving face here, just honest opinions. You need a maid of honour who’s not afraid to tell it like it is, and if you look gorgeous, then enjoy the compliments!

Be a good listener

When everything is getting too much and you need to vent, it’s the maid of honour’s job to listen and offer advice where needed. This goes from the planning right up to your wedding day. If guests are getting on your nerves and you need to vent, it’s their job to take you away and calm you down.

True Bridesmaids True Bridesmaids

Organise the hen party

We couldn’t forget this one, as it’s probably the favourite part of any maid of honour’s role. They get to organise a big party for you and your hens! The maid of honour should speak to the other bridesmaids and maybe even to you to make sure they plan a hen party that you will absolutely love.

Help you get ready

Along with the mother of the bride, you should help the bride get ready on her big day. Whether it’s helping her into her wedding dress, or making sure she’s had something to eat to help alleviate those butterflies, it’s your job to make sure she looks and feels fantastic when she walks down that aisle.

16 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

Carry your train and hold the bouquet

As well as your bridesmaids, your maid of honour should be right there to help carry your train down the aisle if you have one. It’s a great opportunity for them to feel more a part of your wedding day and revel in the looks from your guests as they get to show off that you picked them as your maid of honour. You may also need to hold the bride’s bouquet at some point during the ceremony or during the wedding photos.

Keep the bridesmaids in check

This goes for dress shopping, keeping them organised and keeping an eye on how they conduct themselves in the run up to and on your wedding day. Your maid of honour should play the gatekeeper for how the bridesmaids interact with you to make sure you have minimum stress. They can deal with any trivial issues your bridesmaids may have without the need to bother you.

Sign the registry

Your maid of honour doesn’t have to, but it’s common practice to ask them to sign as a witness of your marriage. It’s a little extra job that is super important and also quite meaningful for the maid of honour to carry out.

Speech!

This is the maid of honour’s chance to gush all about the happy couple and maybe even throw in a few embarrassing stories from your youth for a light-hearted laugh. The speech can be a good opener for the wedding reception atmosphere and it’s also fun to try and top the best man’s speech too!

Blushing bride Blush has been a firm favourite for a long while when it comes to wedding colours and it’s easy to see why. From perfectly peachy to pretty pastel pink, blush is one of the most romantic wedding shades and suprisingly, isn’t just reserved for the Summer wedding. Team it with burgundy or navy for Autumn, or metallics in gold, copper and rose to bring a touch of luxury, add lashings of greenery for a natural and contemporary feel or for the ultimate in pure simplicity, blush and crisp white is just stunning.

Colors

We’ve scoured Pinterest and the internet to find out the top colour trends in what bridesmaids are wearing this new wedding season.

Kelsey Rose

Mori Lee

Pale blues

We’re seeing this a lot all over the internet lately. Pale and dusty blues are sky rocketing in popularity in both Winter weddings and early Spring time affairs too. Opt for a mix of lighter and darker shades so your bridesmaids can mix and match their colour palette to compliment your dress. Go for an off the shoulder Bardot style to really compliment this gorgeous colour.

Burgundy

Burgundy has been a runaway trend this year for weddings. It adds a sexy feel to the bridesmaid dress and has been paired especially well with contrasting necklines in bridal parties, from strapless to one shoulder and draped fabric shoulder styles. Burgundy is particularly popular in Autumn and Winter weddings, as it’s perfect for the changing seasons and also adds a festive feel too.

Mori Lee True Bridesmaids

Blush

Blush has always been a popular bridesmaid colour, because it works with the white wedding dress so well. The difference in this year is blush separates, so lots of cropped halter necks with long flowing tulle skirts for the perfect modern bridesmaid look!

Sage green

This is more of an unexpected pastel colour for a bridesmaid gown, but we’ve seen a rise in popularity in Sage Green for the new wedding season. Plus it works great against weddings who focus greenery heavily in their dÊcor.

Gold

Kelsey Rose True Bridesmaids

True Bridesmaids

You may think this is a little over the top for a bridesmaid gown, but sparkling gold is really running high in popularity for bridesmaid attire this season. Just imagine the bridesmaids as dancing gems and centering round a stunning white pearl, the bride of course!

Mix it up

We’re seeing golds, burgundies and blush all being mixed together in one bridal party, as they complement each other well. If you have a large entourage of bridesmaids, have 2 maids in each colour and your wedding photos will look stunning!

{ MOTHER OF THE BRIDE }

Mum’s the word The mother of the bride/groom has an important role on your wedding day. She is seen as one to provide comfort and strength when you’re at breaking point with nerves and also as a welcoming individual to your wedding guests as they arrive. TIPS FOR MUM

Be there if the bride/ groom needs you

Don’t sacrifice your happiness

It’s important not to step on any toes, but chances are at some point, you will be needed. Try and be available and offer help where you can, without overstepping boundaries. If they want your opinion on cake flavours, they will ask.

If your son/daughter is turning into a real bride/groomzilla, take a step back and inform them that any decisions they make are completely up to them. Soon they will probably apologise for being so difficult and you can move on. The beauty of being a mum is that you don’t hold grudges, but also know when to call out your son/ daughter if they’re being unkind or purposely difficult.

Be a shoulder to cry on

Be a peacekeeper

When it all gets too much, don’t say I told you so, instead, be there for your daughter/ son and comfort them when it all gets a bit overwhelming. Most of the time all they want is to blow off some steam and have an ear to listen.

Help with the something borrowed… If you have a family heirloom or just an item that’s very important to you, offering this for the bride is a huge statement, and one they will remember forever. It can be a brooch or item they can slip into their gown and have on proud display.

Meet the parents of the groom/bride

Strike up a relationship with the parents of whoever your son/daughter is marrying; they’ll be grateful you reached out to them. It’ll be a great opportunity to break the ice before the wedding and also, there’s strength in numbers!

26 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

Both before and on the actual wedding day, it’s important that you make sure that any potential fires are stubbed out before they turn into an argument. You’ve got a lot of friends and family all in one place who wouldn’t normally be altogether, so potential for flare ups is high. Try and dissipate conflict and make sure the guests are getting along; remember it’s a day for the married couple, not for the groom’s cousin Sarah to start a fight with your daughter’s great Uncle Bob.

TIPS FOR YOU

It’s your big day, but it’s important to remember that your mum has watched you grow from being a little one, into a fully-fledged adult who is about to embark on the next stage of your life. It can be quite an emotional time for them, especially if you’re extremely close to one another. So here are a few tips to make sure your mum feels a part of your day.

Make them feel needed

Involve them in decisions and take onboard what they say.

Get them a heartfelt gift

Something personal to them or photographic always goes down well.

Confide in them

If you’re struggling with how overwhelming it all is, confide in your mum. She can always make anything seem a lot less important than it really is, and you’ll feel all the better for it.

Giving you away

If you have both parents, maybe ask them both to give you away. They will be really grateful that they get to share in this experience together.

Take some time out with her

Just remember that your mum will be stressed as well during your wedding planning, so try and take her away for a few hours or even overnight if you’re extremely close. Try and just have a general catch up about life and no wedding talk; even your mum can get sick of it sometimes!

{ HAIR }

What’s

your style?

BOHO

STRAIGHT

There are so many ways to style your hair for your wedding day. We’ve put together a few ideas to hopefully help find the right style for you.

Relaxed updo’s

Pulled off the face with pieces of hair pulled out to create a messy texture, relaxed updo’s are a longhaired bride’s dream if she doesn’t want her hair down on her wedding day. Teamed with a loose plait across the hairline at the front, a relaxed updo could be your ‘go to’ for your bridal hair.

Soft waves

We’re seeing a lot of loose waves in wedding hair this year, with large flowers pinned up one side for a summery look. Waves look particularly beautiful with multi tonal hair such as different highlights of blonde or caramel, as they show off the colour really well.

BUN

Blunt straight hair UPDO

This is the complete opposite of soft waves, in that it creates a harsh look for your bridal hair. If you already have naturally pin straight hair, this is perfect for you. Edgy brides tend to go for this look as they like the contrast between the softness of their bridal gown and the choppy straight lines in their hair style. It’s also no fuss.

Twisted hairstyles

Twisted bridal hair looks gorgeous. Whether you style it half up half down or have a twisted ponytail; adding a twist to the hair adds an extra layer of volume and its pretty easy to do!

TWIST

Bridal lob

The bridal lob is basically a long bob, and many brides are opting for the chop after seeing beautiful effortless creations all over Pinterest. This style is indeed popular, but a word of warning. If you have stunning

WAVES 28 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

long hair, think twice before having it all chopped off in search of the perfect wedding look. It’ll take a long time for all that hair to grow back!

Low buns

Megan Markle is to thank for this one. Brides are opting for a low bun with centre parting and loose tendrils of hair to frame the face for an elegant, yet relaxed look.

Loose ponytail

With added volume and plenty of hairspray, a low loose ponytail looks chic and simple for a bride wanting no fuss but optimum effect.

Accessorise accordingly

Going for a traditional chignon? Style it up with a glittering hairpin that sits just above it to create a stunning feature. Or choose a sparkling hair comb to sweep one side of your hair back for a beautiful bridal day look. If you’re opting for a ‘down do’ or ‘half up do’, crown your style with a stunning tiara, or if you’re a boho bride, fresh flowers pinned in your hair or even a floral halo will create a relaxed wedding day style.

TOP TIP:

• Remember to take your chosen hair accessories to your bridal hair trial • Book your hair trial and book your trial well in advance of the big day - at least three months

{ CAKES }

You can have

your cake

NEARLY NAKED

Everyone loves cake, and if you don’t, why not? It’s lovely! Your wedding cake is the main centrepiece of your special day (apart from the happy couple of course!), so it’s important to find the right cake to showcase you and your other half’s personalities. We’ve done the research for you (no cake tasting allowed unfortunately) and here are what’s trending for the 2019/20 season of wedding cakes.

Greenery

Greenery was a popular theme of last year, and it’s continuing on, with more couples opting for a fresh feel to their wedding cake. We’re seeing a mixture of real greenery adorning cakes, and also sugar crafted leaves for edible decoration.

GREENERY

Metallic

Still a firm favourite, metallic and golden cakes are a top choice for couples getting married. In fact, it’s the second most popular trend for the new season (the first being white cakes). A golden accented wedding cake adds

an air of opulence, encrusted with golden jewels and golden flowers, sometimes even merging with other cake themes, with gold dripping icing down the sides. Gold foil accents on white cakes are a particular trend to watch!

3D Florals

This trend has extended its way from the 3d floral wedding gowns we’re seeing, into cake creations. Flowers are not only being added to accent a cake, but are now cascading all the way down, sweeping from left to right, to create a floral waterfall effect. In some cases, it seems the bigger the flower, the better!

Nearly Naked

These are a mainstay for wedding cakes it seems, with many couples opting for a buttercream covered rustic style cake instead of fondant icing. Nearly naked cakes can be dressed up with anything to add to a wedding theme. From flowers and fruit, to hand crafted chocolates and personalised name signs.

METALLIC

FLORAL 30 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

Hand-Painted

The beauty of a hand-painted cake is that you can have any design you like on it. Whether it’s a silhouette of a couple in a romantic embrace, or whether it’s greenery hand-feathered along the side. Hand-painted cakes can be extra personalised to the happy couple, so it’s easy to see why they’re so popular. Late 2019/2020 trends are showing a lot of hand painted flowers on wedding cakes, also mixed in with real flowers to merge with the 3D cake trend.

Geode

Geode cakes are everywhere; even down to being seen at local supermarkets, which means there’s no sign of this trend dying down soon. Coupled with a celestial hand-painted and marble cake backdrop, the geode trend is flying high this wedding season.

White

This is no new trend, but traditional white fondant cakes are moving to the modern with smooth fondant icing being swapped for a white buttercream icing look. Still simple and classic, with a contemporary twist. The addition of fresh flowers accents a white cake so you can colour code it to the theme of your wedding.

Cheese WHITE

If cake is really not your thing, then why not opt for a cheese cake…that is, a cake made entirely of cheese wheels! This isn’t a new trend, but we felt it important to mention as not everyone has a sweet tooth, so if cheese is part of your life, then it should be a part of your wedding too. Cheese wedding cakes are also a great meal finisher, as after the photos have been taken, they can be taken away and cut up into cheeseboards for your guests to have with a glass of red wine and crackers!

{ FLOWERS }

Flower power Choosing the flowers for your wedding can be difficult, but with our help, hopefully you can carry your bridal bouquet with pride on your wedding day! Here are some important things to think about when choosing your wedding flowers.

PRETTY IN PASTEL

Season

Opting for flowers in season makes perfect sense. You get your flowers at their peak and they are also grown as nature intended. Choosing seasonal also helps your wedding budget, so bear that in mind. Sweet Peas are a Spring bride’s flower of choice, while Amaryllis are a stunning Winter flower that stands out with its deep red shading.

MELLOW YELLOW

Scent

You may think this is obvious, but when thinking about your wedding flowers, brides don’t think about how theirs will smell. However, the first thing you do when you get your bridal bouquet is smell it. For nervous brides, try adding sprigs of lavender for a pop of relaxing purple. Or if you have a favourite floral scent and it’s in season, add it to your bouquet. That way, whenever you buy your favourite flowers, the scent will instantly bring you back to your wedding day.

Contrast

Bridal and Bridesmaid bouquets that contrast are aesthetically pleasing on the eye, and look great in your wedding photos. If your bridesmaids have burgundy flowers, opt for a light ivory shade to stand out.

36 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

BEAUTIFUL BURGUNDY

Repurpose

For couples with sustainability in mind, repurpose your flowers used at the ceremony as table décor and choose quality over quantity. You’ve spent all that money on dressing your venue/s, so it makes sense to utilise what you’ve got as much as possible. Plus, it’s better for the environment.

Back to Classic SOMETHING BLUE

Over the last few years, we’ve talked about rough, oversized bridal bouquets that drape down and hang in all directions. Now though, brides seem to be returning to classic, more understated bouquets. This is great because simple bouquets take up less attention, so your wedding guests are looking at you. Having said that, brides are still having greenery filled, loose looking bouquets, but in miniature form.

Flower Crowns

These are making a welcome return to 2019/20 weddings and are perfect if you’re a boho bride or having a Spring or Summer wedding. Flower crowns give a natural, care free feel to the wedding look.

{ MENSWEAR }

Suited and Booted When it comes to the wedding suit, tailoring is everything, so a well fitted suit goes without saying. Now, we’ve done our research and have found the top trends for groomswear that we think are going to be big hitters throughout 2019 and into 2020 weddings. Let’s take a look.

Tweed

Tweed is showing no signs of slowing down in the popularity stakes and it can be changed up with a range of colours too. It’s also perfect for barn and relaxed weddings that lend themselves well to the texture of tweed.

Double breasted waistcoats If David Beckham wore it, grooms all across the land seem to want to wear it too. We’ve seen a huge rise in popularity of double-breasted waistcoats since David wore one to the Royal wedding in 2018, so it’s easy to see why this has translated in 2019 groomswear trends.

Dinner suits

Tuxedos have been modernised with a change of colour and fabric for the groom in 2019/20 weddings. Velvet has also made a comeback in many dinner suits and grooms are opting for this for their elegant black-tie affair.

Mix and match

Flannel fabric

This seems to be the main fabric of choice for many grooms getting married in the warmer months. That’s because flannel is very light weight, but gives the illusion of soft, thick high-quality fabric, so it’s a winner in our book.

Traditional morning suits

These are formal and elegant and some would even say romantic! The morning suit has been changed up by offering a slim fit version to add a more modern touch to the groom’s attire.

Go bespoke

Much like a hand-made wedding dress, a bespoke designed suit is crafted exactly to the groom’s requirements. Not off-the-peg and one to keep forever; this gives the groom a chance to add more of their personality with the opportunity of a blank canvas.

If the shoe fits

If your wedding has a relaxed vibe, then why not go for all out comfort with your favourite pumps? But if it’s a formal affair, make sure you have the shoes to match. Don’t scrimp on a good pair of wedding shoes either; you’ll be wearing these all day, so make sure they’re comfortable.

Complete the look

From the colour and style of your shoes and belt, to pocket hankies and neckwear, formal or relaxed, these final details will complete your look. Don’t worry, if you need help with the final details, your suit tailor will recommend the best ways to accessorise your chosen style.

It seems the trend of mix and match is in full force. Think contrasting textures, patterns and colours like khaki tweed suit jackets against navy waistcoats and trousers. This adds a fresh look to the wedding suit that every groom can get on board with.

{ REAL LIFE WEDDING }

Ollie & Emma’s

Made in Sheffield Affair

Photographs courtesy of Stu Ganderton Photography, www.stuganderton.com

WHEN: Saturday 8th June 2019 WHERE: St Augustine’s Church, Sheffield, then Kelham Island Museum for Reception

A picture-perfect beachfront proposal in Cyprus was followed by a truly ‘Made in Sheffield’ wedding for Ollie and Emma Carlisle. The couple, from Sheffield, started the planning process as soon as they got engaged in October 2017 and looked at several venues before they spotted Kelham Island Museum. They loved it because it was unusual and quirky and also fit with their theme around things made in Sheffield. The couple really enjoyed the planning process and loved going to wedding fayres and talking to each other about their plans. It was a real family affair with Emma’s mum drying out rose petals for an entire year to use as confetti and dad helping with the décor by painting glass jars. On the morning of the wedding, Ollie, his best man and dad all did the local park run whilst it was pouring down with rain. Emma had bought Ollie and his best man matching running t-shirts with their

52 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

wedding date on, they got a lot of congratulations by the time they finished their 5k. They had their wedding ceremony at St Augustine’s Church in Sheffield, which was also where Emma’s parents got married, and where Emma was baptised, so it held special significance. Emma wore a bespoke designed dress by Kelly of KMR Bridal after shopping for dresses and being unable to find exactly what she wanted. Emma met Kelly at a wedding fayre and as it turned out, they lived around the corner from each other, so consultations were easy. ‘Kelly is really good at what she does and very good at putting people at ease. Our meetings were more like a conversation with a friend’.

Emma’s dress was an ivory fit and flare style gown in silk crepe material with a long back train and boat neck design. The gown also had detachable sleeves for an ideal day to night look. Emma carried a neutral bridal bouquet, with ivory, green and blush pink colours throughout. The couple’s stand out moment on their wedding day was seeing all their guests together, with some travelling from far afield to celebrate their marriage. After the ceremony, it was time for the reception at Kelham Island Museum; with staff even getting the old industrial steam engine running for a few minutes, which was a real talking point among the guests. Wedding guests were treated to canapes of scotch eggs with Hendersons relish and traditional pies made in Sheffield of course. Ollie and Emma chose PJ Taste as their caterers as they were big on home grown local produce, which fit perfectly with their theme. They even had mini bottles of Hendersons relish to give to their guests as wedding favours! As part of the décor, Ollie and Emma’s table names were all Sheffield bands too, with the likes of Def Leppard and PULP gracing the table plan. The couple had a live singer called David Ford, (Ollie is a huge fan) who is based in Eastbourne and agreed to make the trip for Ollie and Emma’s wedding. Emma said, ‘I swear Ollie has single-handedly supported his career!’. The couple had a wonderful wedding day and said they loved

working with all the suppliers to help create it. They honeymooned for 4 days in Las Vegas, followed by 2 weeks in Hawaii. Whilst in Hawaii, Emma forced Ollie to wake up at 2:30am to drive up to the top of Mount Haleakala in Maui, so they could watch the sunrise together. As they got there, they witnessed a shooting star right at the top of the volcano just before the most perfect sunrise. Ollie’s Tip for couples getting married: Get your guests to take loads of photos. Stu took wonderful photos of us, but I wished I’d asked family and friends to take more informal snaps of things going on with other guests. You can never have too many pictures. Emma’s Tip for couples getting married: In the planning stage, try not to get too overwhelmed. Take a step back and don’t let yourself get too wound up and stressed. extra special wedding day

WHEN: 16th September 2018 WHERE: St Mary’s Church, Wombwell | The Fairway, Dodworth

The 2018 wedding of Paul and Jessica Kenny is a shining example of the very best of human kindness. When the couple decided to tie the knot - following Paul’s cancer diagnosis - little did they know that all their wedding suppliers would help them make the most of their special day by giving their services free and working together to make their day truly memorable. Jessica said: “When we chose our venue stylist Emma Day, it turned out she knew Paul from school. She was incredible and organised the whole day for us. She staged our venue free of charge and also spoke to all the suppliers about Paul’s illness which resulted in them donating their time and services.’’ The ‘kindness of strangers’ donations resulted in a really fabulous wedding day for Paul and Jessica and truly overwhelmed the couple who don’t have words to express their gratitude.

54 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

The couple married on September 16, 2018 at St Mary’s Church in Wombwell, Barnsley. After the wedding service, the couple’s three children Isaac (six), Ivy (four) and Joshua (aged one) were all christened to make the day even more memorable. This was followed by a wedding breakfast and evening party, with live band The Inspectors, at The Fairway in Dodworth when guests joined them to celebrate their special day. The previous January Paul had been diagnosed with cancer which doctors have said is incurable. However Paul is still having chemotherapy and the cancer is being kept at bay. The couple, who live in Wombwell, first met through a friend of a friend and started dating in 2012. They had been talking

‘The couple followed their civil ceremony with an afternoon tea for 50 guests which as Sarah explained, seemed very in keeping with the era of their historic surroundings’ about getting married for a long time but Paul’s diagnosis made them decide to go ahead and name the day. For the traditional church ceremony Jessica wore an A-line off-white gown which was loaned to her for the day and carried a bouquet of soft pink and pale green artificial mixed flowers. Her three bridesmaids chose their own dresses in baby pink, dusky pink and green lace and carried similar flowers to the bride. The flower girl wore an off-white dress with sash. Jessica was driven to the church from her hotel in a Range Rover car and then the couple were taken to the reception in a VW campervan, both donated by well-wishers. The pink and green colour scheme continued into the wedding venue, which was

dressed by Emma and Tracey. The couple were also delighted with a wedding cake, part of which featured a Lego design, which was made for them, along with a christening cake. Jessica said: “I didn’t have to do anything, apart from try on my wedding dress. Emma did everything for us and we are eternally grateful to both her and everyone else who supported us. We had an amazing day and it was everything we could have ever hoped for. We can’t thank people enough for all their kindness to us.’’ Some wedding guests travelled from Scotland and Wales to help Paul and Jessica celebrate their big day. The couple’s honeymoon is still on hold and they are thinking about marking their first wedding anniversary with a short trip to a destination not too far away.

Rebecca & Wayne’s

spring wedding

WHEN: 26th May 2019 WHERE: Rogerthorpe Manor, Pontefract

As part of their perfect wedding day at Rogerthorpe Manor, bride Rebecca Lee surprised her new husband Wayne by announcing she had secretly booked a week-long honeymoon to Zante. Rebecca, who had done all the holiday booking in secret, announced the surprise during the wedding speeches following their civil ceremony at the popular 400-year-old historical venue in Badsworth near Pontefract. Wayne and Rebecca, who live in Horbury with their three children, were married during the 2019 Spring Bank Holiday weekend on Sunday May 26. Rebecca, a teaching assistant, and Wayne who works as a service engineer, originally met when Wayne was servicing an alarm at Rebecca’s, then, place of work. Years later they met up again and are now parents to Thomas, Jade and Emily. Their wedding ceremony at Rogerthorpe Manor was held in front of over 50 day guests on

a warm and sunny day after a brief spell of rain threatened the proceedings. The ceremony was followed by a delicious sit down meal and then an evening party with around 100 guests joining in the celebrations. For the ceremony, Rebecca chose a champagne and ivory ballgown with a low back and crystal beading decoration. She carried a bouquet of pink roses and mixed pink and white flowers. Her bridesmaids wore baby pink dresses and carried bouquets of white roses and mixed flowers. Their son Thomas was a groomsman and daughters Jade and Emily were two of the bridesmaids. Rebecca said: “After all the planning, the day went really well and everything went to plan. The

“The best part of the day for me was the speeches which were really heartwarming and funny.’’ staff at Rogerthorpe Manor were excellent and all our suppliers were really good.’’ The Spring Bank wedding had been in the planning stages for two years with Rebecca doing a large amount of the planning work herself. She designed everything herself and made the favours which were the couple’s favourite sweets in cones. “The best part of the day for me was the speeches which were really heartwarming and funny.’’ The couple also really enjoyed having their wedding photographs taken in the hotel’s beautiful gardens. “The grounds are perfect for wedding photos and it was also really nice to have many of our guests staying overnight in the hotel after the wedding. On the night before the wedding,

myself and the bridesmaids were in a hotel pamper party room which was a lovely start to the celebrations.’’ The biggest surprise of the day however was for Wayne when his new wife made the announcement that she had booked a week-long honeymoon for them. “It was great to get away on our own for a week as we normally go away as a family obviously. This made it really special for both of us.’’ Now it’s back to earth for the Horbury couple and their family as they have all returned to work and school after all the excitement of a wonderful day. Rogerthorpe Manor was originally built in 1610 by Samuel Saltonstal; it was a private home until it became a country club in 1955 and is now a popular hotel.

Emily & Matt’s

perfect family affair

WHEN: 9th March 2019 WHERE: Sandburn Hall, York

A couple who have known each other since they were three years old were married earlier this year at Sandburn Hall on the outskirts of York. Matt and Emily, who live in Altofts, Wakefield, tied the knot on March 9 in a civil ceremony attended by 80 day guests. Civil servant Matt and his wife Emily, who works in cabin crew at Leeds Bradford Airport, knew each other as toddlers and then lost touch, meeting up again years later. Two years before the wedding, Matt proposed during a trip to The Maldives which they had

organised to celebrate both their 30th birthdays. After the holiday, it was all systems go to prepare for the wedding, much of which Emily organised herself with help from staff at the wedding venue and her suppliers. Some of the preparations were taken care of by Emily herself who made champagne cork place card holders and home made jam jar favours.

As the wedding day dawned, the weather was horrendous in the morning but luckily in time for the ceremony at 2pm, the sun was shining and the rest of the day was a beautiful spring day. For her wedding, the bride wore a classically cut ivory wedding dress and carried a bouquet of `old romantic’ pale blush pink and white roses with ivy. Both Emily and Matt were driven to the ceremony in Jaguar cars courtesy of a friend. Her three bridesmaids wore blush pink gowns and carried smaller versions of the bride’s bouquet. Emily, who was given away by her father Chris Pickles, also had her five-year-old son Oliver as a pageboy and her twoyear-old niece as a flower girl. Following the ceremony, the couple and their guests enjoyed a wedding breakfast at the venue which had been styled exactly as they wished in their wedding colours of blush pink and ivory. Emily said: “All our suppliers, including the stylists, were excellent and did a really good job. We can’t thank them enough and would also like to thank Sandburn Hall staff for all their help along the way and on the day itself. Our photographer too was excellent as she didn’t keep us away from our guests for too long.’’ A three-tier wedding cake took pride of place at the reception, with tiers of Victoria Sponge, chocolate and lemon. In the evening, more guests joined the party for the

celebrations which included live music from Southwest Band. Emily said: “The whole day went smoothly and everyone really enjoyed it. The best moment for me was when I walked down the aisle and saw my own little family, Matt and Oliver waiting. The whole day was better than we could have ever hoped for but did pass really quickly. We both tried to take in all the special moments and it was lovely that the whole family was together for such a special occasion.’’ The couple waited until the summer months to enjoy a honeymoon which they spent as a family holiday with their young son. The family enjoyed a week long honeymoon in Croatia and also had time to celebrate some more good news - that they are expecting a child together in November.

Daniel & Krista’s

beautiful barn wedding

Photographs courtesy of Inspire Images, www.inspirephotos.co.uk

WHEN: 21st April 2019 WHERE: The Normans, York

A honeymoon travelling around America followed the wedding of Daniel and Krista Bower at a unique barn venue in the village of Bilbrough on the outskirts of York.

One of the best parts of the day for the couple was being able to have their beloved dog Poppy, a Chocolate Labrador, with them for the whole day. The couple were married on April 21 at The Normans, a barn venue which has been re-imagined and revamped from original farm buildings to create the stunning surroundings of a rustic barn with contemporary features. It includes an 18th Century threshing barn for the service and an outside courtyard area. Krista said: “The Normans was the first wedding venue we visited

60 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

and we knew straight away it was were we wanted to say our ‘I Do’s’. “It was the most amazing wedding venue we could have wished for. Absolutely perfect in every way and surrounded by beautiful countryside! The candle lit barn, the cosy cowsheds, the beautiful marque style reception along with the pretty courtyard which was perfect to sit in the sunshine for our Easter Sunday wedding! We loved it. Our guests loved it. “A Sunday we will never forget! Thank you to the Normans team for giving us the most beautiful wedding day.’’

For the ceremony, Krista wore an off-the-shoulder style dress, perfect for a Spring wedding, with lace three-quarter sleeves, lace bodice, a floaty skirt and sheer long length veil. Her six bridesmaids wore blue dresses which Krista counted as her `something blue’. She said: “Our colour scheme for the wedding was blue, green and white. (blue based on suits and bridesmaid dresses). We wanted the colours to be a romantic, softest, dusty blue paired with more of an organic white and green for our rustic wedding.

‘Poppy, the Labrador’s, floral collar was made on the hen ‘do’ as part of a flower crown workshop’ Floral arrangements were white roses, blue hydrangeas, forest green eucalyptus, which were also used in my bouquet. “Our centre pieces were made by my grandad - wooden crate boxes with K & D spray painted on. Flowers were arranged in these to create a country garden wedding feel”. “He also made the ‘Welcome to the Bower wedding’ wooden sign decorated with green leaves as well as the the time schedule of the day on the wooden pallet which our guests loved!’’ Krista herself made various decorations for the big day including a mirror table plan decorated with flowers and photo bunting which hung in the cowsheds. Poppy, the Labrador’s, floral

collar was made on the hen ‘do’ as part of a flower crown workshop. After the wedding ceremony, all the guests gathered together and enjoyed a selection of delicious canapes before sitting down for a wedding breakfast which included a delicious roast dinner. During the celebrations, the couple cut their three-tier wedding cake which was decorated with roses and other flowers. Durning the wedding breakfast the Under Cover Waiters surprised our guests by singing our favourite songs, starting with ‘I Say A Little Prayer For You’ from the film ‘My Best Friends Wedding!’ Everyone was up on their feet dancing and singing! Amazing atmosphere!!! The day continued later with an evening party for the happy couple and all their guests.

Your Garden Secret Spa Escape Ringwood Hall Hotel boasts a brand new Garden Secret Spa for you and your wedding party to escape away to, and enjoy some much-needed pampering before your big day. Here at I Do Magazine, we like to ensure that we are promoting products that live up to their expectations, so we had to test out the new spa for ourselves and headed out for a day spa package to Ringwood Hall Hotel & Spa. Three of us attended the spa and each had different treatments, so we could provide a better all-round review for you (it’s a hard job sometimes). Richard went for the Mud Patch Hammam therapy (the spa’s signature treatment), Heather opted for the Infinity Flow warm stone massage and Natasha had the Euphoric Balance full body massage (all 55 minute treatments). From the moment you walk into the spa, your senses are treated to a soothing atmosphere filled with essential and calming oils.

Your relaxation starts here Make your way to the glass house brasserie, where you will be greeted with a welcome garden smoothie shot to excite and tantalise your taste buds.

62 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

A member of the team then gives you a ‘journey card’ to take with you during your visit; this includes the details of your treatment, locker number and descriptions of each of the features in the spa. In the changing area, a code opens your locker and a wonderful robe, towel and Garden Secret Spa flip flops await you in a neat little package. The spa is very intimate but large enough to accompany your entire wedding party and you are free to use any of the features available. Spa Features include a Himalayan salt sauna, Vitality Pool and bubbling Foot Spa, among others, so you can let your cares disappear as you float into relaxation heaven. After enjoying the luxurious Garden Secret spa features, we had lunch scheduled at 12. The brasserie had a lovely relaxing atmosphere with soft music playing in the background and also being able to eat in your robes was a major plus point! Heather and Richard opted for the lunch menu and Natasha had afternoon tea. It all came out together as Heather and Richard had preordered their lunch upon arrival, so there was no wait. The food was just right and the scone with clotted cream was divine! Treatments were at 1pm; we all went into separate rooms, each with wonderful sounding names such as Lavender Haze and Daisy Chain. All three treatments used Lola’s Apothecary essential oils (which you can also purchase from the spa) that were first heated and then applied to the skin. With the Euphoric Balance and Infinity flow, there was a range of 3 different soothing oils to choose from. The Mud Patch Hammam Therapy focussed on a full body exfoliation, followed by an uplifting body mask and massage. Richard said he felt like he was encased in a cloud during the body mask; obviously a good sign! The whole atmosphere of the treatment rooms

was perfect; with dimmed lighting and meditative music gently filling the space. The therapists ask you if you have any particular points to work on, and they focus on those whilst also massaging the rest of your body. You don’t feel rushed at any point and the therapists are continually checking to make sure you’re ok with the pressure. It’s easy to see how some people fall asleep whilst having a massage, as it forces you to stop completely and allow your whole body to relax. We went into individual rooms for our treatments, but the Garden Secret Spa also offers triple treatment rooms, so you can enjoy your treatments with friends or your partner for an intimate relaxing getaway. After your treatment, you can chill out and even have a nap in the Daydream room with your friends and chat about your experiences together. The Garden Secret Spa at Ringwood Hall Hotel really is a hidden gem and its clear that the entire team love what they do. Everything in the spa is geared towards total relaxation, so you barely have to lift a finger whilst there. After visiting the spa, we would give a huge recommendation to visit with your hen or wedding party for a relaxation filled weekend before the wedding festivities begin. The Orchid Royale Escape package is perfect for this, as you can take advantage of a Twilight Spa experience with your hens/wedding party. You also get evening canapes upon arrival, a 25 minute twilight treatment and take part in the Garden Secret cocktail making class in the Brasserie with an expert mixologist! This is the perfect get together before your wedding day and has the I Do seal of approval! Oh, what a night The I Do Wedding Awards held its annual ceremony to celebrate hard-working local wedding suppliers and to support a wonderful and very worthy charity. Now in its fifth year, the I Do Wedding Awards are highly regarded as one of the top markers of a high-quality wedding supplier and this evening is eagerly anticipated in the local wedding industry’s calendar. The evening was held at Sheffield City Hall’s stunning ballroom on Tuesday 14th May and wedding suppliers from all across the East Midlands, Yorkshire and the Humber donned their best tuxedos and ballgowns to come together and celebrate this once a year occasion. Decided entirely by the votes of the couples who have personally used these wedding suppliers for their own special days, the 2019 awards saw over 400 entrants, with over 130 making the finals and 29 being announced as category winners. The red carpet entrance signalled the arrival of our sparkling and dapper guests, who were greeted with a champagne drinks reception to welcome them to the evening’s festivities. The atmosphere was electric as everyone conversed excitedly about what was to come. The host for the evening, local celebrity and top DJ, Stephanie Hirst, welcomed over 250 guests into the ballroom as they made their way to their seats while the talented Alexandra the Violinist played in the background. Guests then sat down to enjoy a fine dining four course meal, which they enjoyed to the vocal stylings of solo artist Rose Devine.

‘we raised almost £2000 for the Children’s Air Ambulance’

Raising funds for charity!

As part of the awards, each year we choose a charity to support and raise much needed funds for. This year, we chose the Children’s Air Ambulance; a totally self-funded and yet highly important charity. A charity prize draw was held during the evening, where we raffled off prizes donated by many of the generous wedding suppliers who attended the night. Guests donated a minimum of £10 for a Willy Wonka style chocolate bar in the hopes of bagging a golden ticket inside to win a prize. The wonderful Joanne from Ace Party also generously donated the use of her Roulette and Blackjack tables for the drinks reception, with all proceeds from this going to our chosen charity. In total, we raised almost £2000 for the Children’s Air Ambulance, which the attending spokesperson Sharon gratefully accepted. We would like to thank everyone who generously donated prizes and money during the evening. If you’d like to find out more about the Children’s Air Ambulance, please go to www.childrensairambulance.org.uk

{ ENTERTAINMENT }

Party time

PHOTOBOOTH

Wedding entertainment can be a make or break situation when it comes to keeping your wedding guests entertained. So we’ve rounded up a few of our top wedding entertainment ideas to make sure your wedding reception is party central!

FIREWORKS

CIRCUS ACTS

Fireworks

If you have an outdoor wedding, or even large gardens at a venue, fireworks are wonderful. Not only are they a great photo opportunity, but they also give you and your guests a chance to get cosy with their partners and families, and watch the sky light up.

Circus Acts

These will make sure your wedding entertainment is super memorable. Fire breathers and aerial performers add the shock and awe factor to any wedding and will leave your guests wanting more.

GARDEN GAMES

Photobooth

Now in many different forms; the traditional booth, photo mirror and more modern ‘selfie’ style booth, the photobooth is a must of many weddings due to its ease of use and hilarious photo opportunities. Book your Photobooth now with Diamond Photobooth or MDG Entertainment on page 79.

80 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

Giant Outdoor Games

Crazy golf, Jenga and Connect 4 are all big hitters here. Couples want everyone to feel like a kid again and just have some carefree fun at their wedding. It’s not all about getting drunk and embarrassing yourself; giant outdoor games get everyone of all ages involved and are a good laugh too.

Silent Discos

Silent Discos are an emerging trend for weddings and it’s easy to see why. They allow your guests to effectively listen to what they want at your wedding reception with no noise restrictions in force. So you could have chart toppers on your headphones, and your mum can be listening to Motown at the same time! Watching everyone dancing to their own groove is also free entertainment!

CASINO

Wedding Caricaturist

Not for the easily offended, a caricaturist at your wedding is a great ice-breaker. It also gives your guests a little gift to go home with; whether they decide to frame it or hide it is their choice.

Video Booth

Think ‘Big Brother’ but without the confessions (hopefully). A video booth gives your guests a chance to leave you a video message of well wishes on your wedding day, like a video guest book. The best part about this is you get to watch it all back and see how the videos progress as your guests have more to drink!

Wedding DJ

We couldn’t put these ideas together without the mainstay of any wedding; the DJ. You need music at a wedding and a good DJ can ensure the flow of the evening continues through until the early hours, with all your guests having a blast on the dancefloor.

Fun at the Fairground

This works brilliantly with outdoor weddings. Guests can partake in Hook a Duck, Sandbag throw, Coconut shy and many more. Best part is, fairground games have the benefit of nostalgia, so it would be hard for someone not to enjoy them.

Go Classical

Hire a violinist, harpist or even a string quartet for your wedding entertainment. Most artists nowadays play modern tracks, to bring all ages of the wedding party together. Have you ever heard Ed Sheeran played on the violin? Check out Alexandra the Violinist on page 79 if you’re searching for the perfect violinist.

Glitter Bar

Popular with the kids, a glitter bar is a fabulous idea to add a little sparkle to your wedding day. This works on beards too; sparkly gold beard anyone?

WEDDING DJ

FAIRGROUND GAMES

Casino

More one for the grown-ups, a casino at your wedding is a great idea. It breaks the ice and is a great laugh for your wedding guests to beat the odds! Remember, the house always wins in the end! Be sure to check out Ace Party on the very back page, to hire a casino for your special day!

Singing Waiters

SINGING WAITERS

GO CLASSICAL

Singing waiters are just blowing up all over the wedding circuit right now; that’s because they are the perfect entertainment for breaking the ice and getting your wedding guests up singing and dancing. The best part is keeping it a secret from your guests, and as the ‘waiters’ arrive to serve your food, then spontaneously break into song, the surprise on your guests’ faces is priceless. Check out The Undercover Waiters on the inside cover; they are a fantastic option for your entertainment and are available to see at all the I Do Wedding Exhibitions.

{ STAG & HEN }

BOAT PARTY

Get together

PAINTBALLING

Quick Fire Stag and Hen (or even Sten) ideas you’ll love Many couples nowadays are shooing away the traditional separate Stag and Hen Parties in favour of joint Sten or Hag parties, so we’ve put together our top Sten party ideas for you and your mates to all celebrate together before you get hitched!

Boat Party

Afternoon Tea

Assault Course

Cocktail Masterclass

If you’re holidaying abroad, this is a great idea. If you’re holidaying somewhere like Marbella or Ibiza, gather your friends together for a boat Sten party! Enjoy sun worshipping with a few cocktails and maybe even diving into the sea to cool off! A sunset over the sea wouldn’t go amiss either!

Tough Mudder style, if you have an active group of hens/ stags, pit yourselves against one another and see who makes it out on top. Don’t forget the change of clothes though if you’re off out afterwards!

Cookery Class

For those who want more of a relaxed vibe on their Sten party, a cookery class is a lovely idea. Fuelled with boozy drinks and chilled music as you work through the menu to create something gourmet, you’ll have a great time and will also have something to eat at the end of it.

COOKERY CLASS 82 - www.ido-magazine.co.uk

This is a lovely little quaint treat to appease the mums out there. It’ll also line your stomach before your night out! So grab those cucumber sandwiches and scones with clotted cream and chow down on fancy afternoon tea!

Take part in a mixology class with professionals up and down the country. Cocktail making classes are a great ice-breaker if the hen/stag party don’t all know each other. You’ll have a blast mixing and shaking your new cocktail creations and will even make a few new friends at the same time. You could also hire a mixologist to come to your home, so you can get boozy in a more relaxed atmosphere.

ASSAULT COURSE

Spa Weekend

Many Spa hotels are now catering to Stens for their spa weekend packages. Ringwood Hall has a wonderful Garden Spa (page 62) where your entire party can chill out, relax and enjoy a much-needed massage. So gather your group, grab your robes and enjoy some you time.

Go Karting

If you feel the need for speed, then this is a good one for you. Team Sport is the UK’s number 1 indoor Karting company and ensures you and your Sten party have a fab time as you race each other round the track. You can either take part in a formula one style 50 lap timed race, or a more relaxed Le Mans track run. Check out Team Sport here: https://www. team-sport.co.uk/go-kart-racingevents/stag-do-hen-do/

Sten Fest

Are you a lover of music festivals? Then why not create your own with Sten Fest? Courtesy of Go Hen, enjoy a glamping style retreat with hot tub hire, an acoustic band, private chef and in some locations, a silent disco! Get the glitter ready! Find out more here: https://www.gohen.com/ activities/hen-fest.asp

Paintballing

Gather your friends together for a paintballing experience you won’t soon forget. Pit Stags and hens against each other and shoot to the death! (or at least until everyone’s covered in paint). Paintballing is a great laugh and super light-hearted too. To add extra fun, why not add fancy dress into the mix!
