YMCA of Reading and Berks County
You could join a gym. You could go to that gym, work out, go home, repeat — or you could join a community — a place where you can play some pick-up basketball while a child just one floor above you learns his ABCs. A place where you can pump iron and, in the next room, local teens plan their next volunteer project. A place where you can swim laps as somebody else takes the steps to get their life back together. That’s the Y: not a gym, a community. The YMCA of Reading and Berks County offers six branches serving Berks, Lancaster and Schuylkill counties, each designed with their respective community’s needs in mind. From state-of-the-art fitness facilities to Keystone STARS-rated child care centers, recovery housing and resources, and so much more. The Y is a onestop-shop for mind, body and soul. Unique Pretzel Bakery, Inc.
Unique Pretzel Bakery, Inc., established in 1921, has been baking delicious pretzels in Berks County for a century. However, the Spannuth Family tradition of baking pretzels started six generations ago in the late 1800s. Demand for our pretzels increased rapidly because of our “unique baking process and the invention of our Original Splits by our 4th generation owner. Still to this day, we let the raw pretzel set to perfection, and when ready, Splits are then placed in the oven where they burst open, creating bubbles and crevices that are crispy, crunchy, and full of flavor. Throughout the years, we have not only widened our offering of pretzels, but have expanded our brand across the United States. Our retail store offers more than just a full selection of our pretzels. We also offer chocolate-coated pretzels, gift baskets, tins and other gift items designed to fit any gifting need or budget.

Nitro Bar
Good to Know: Our menu
also reflects our PA Dutch heritage with items like a locally curated Dutch Platter, a Lebanon Bologna Cheesesteak, "The Dutch" Sandwich, Pickled Veggies, Red Beet Pickled Eggs, homemade "Amish" Pretzels and more.
Relive the old motor days of West Reading in what is now the Nitro Bar with a visit. Our property, 416 Penn Avenue, was founded in 1913 as West Reading Motor and Hardware Co., a car dealership and parts/hardware store. Later, it was predominately home to car dealerships through the late 1960s, including Jack Lehman and Berks County Motors, which both sold DeSoto, Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth models. It’s this era of the building to which the Nitro Bar pays homage. Look around and you’ll see photos gifted to us featuring a car that once raced at the old Fairgrounds track, a weathered Reading Standard Motorcycle mural, and memorabilia from both Reading's automotive history and the Reading Brewing days. Our menu also reflects our PA Dutch heritage with items like a locally curated Dutch Platter, a Lebanon Bologna Cheesesteak, "The Dutch" Sandwich, Pickled Veggies, Red Beet Pickled Eggs, homemade "Amish" Pretzels and more.

Tom Sturgis Pretzels
Good to Know:
These artisan treats are available for you — from our original Specials and Little Ones® to our newest Chris B’s and Sourdough Hard Pretzels ‘N’ Pieces.
Tom Sturgis Pretzels was founded by Marriott “Tom” Sturgis in 1946 and is the only surviving company to be run by direct descendants of Julius Sturgis, who founded the first commercial pretzel bakery in 1861 in Lititz. Technology, methods and styles change, but at Tom Sturgis Pretzels, our family has baked and sold great tasting pretzel varieties continually over the course of three consecutive centuries. These artisan treats are available for you — from our original Specials and Little Ones® to our newest Chris B’s and Sourdough Hard Pretzels ‘N’ Pieces. Located just off Route 222 in Shillington, our retail store is open Monday-Saturday, 8:30am to 5:30pm. Enjoy samples of our pretzels while you browse. Each pretzel has its own special flavor based on its recipe, proofing time and baking line. Yes, some pretzels are still baked in stone-hearth ovens! We offer a full product line of pretzels and a variety of gift items. We’re More Than Just Pretzels! 2267 Lancaster Pike, Shillington 610.775.0335 tomsturgispretzels.com
