CJ’s Tire & Automotive
Local tire dealership celebrating 50 plus years… “changing more than tires” CJ’s Tire & Automotive, family-owned and operated, started in Birdsboro and has three locations in Berks. Each has maintained the reputation of being “the local tire store” because of management’s commitment to the customer and to the local community. In the 1960s, Paul “Skip” Levengood, Sr. was working as a tire builder at the Firestone tire manufacturing plant in Pottstown. While working in the industry, Skip noticed a pattern at tire dealerships in the area: poor customer service. “I knew I could give better service than what I was receiving at these places. I didn’t want to gouge customers, and I was tired of being treated poorly,” said Skip, “so I decided to open my own store in 1971.” Skip gave up his job at the Firestone plant in 1973 and immersed himself into C&J Tire full-time. For the next 17 years, C&J grew and became the local market leader in tires and automotive services. In 1991, the name changed to CJ’s Tire & Automotive, and a second retail shop was added in West 12 BERKSCOUNT YLIVING.COM

From just four employees in 1971 to more than 200 full- and part-time employees in 2022, CJ’s now boasts 17 retail shops and six distribution centers. “Our formula is really pretty simple” explains Paul Levengood Jr., president. “Taking care of the customer, hiring people with high morals and treating both customers and employees like they are family is what we are all about.” While quality name brand tires may be what CJ’s is best known for, they are not just a tire shop. CJ’s mission statement begins with the words, “changing more than tires.” Service also includes scheduled maintenance, state inspections, brakes, alignments, batteries, oil changes, custom wheels, you name it. “For CJ’s Tire and Automotive ‘Better, Faster and More Affordable’ is a commitment we’ve made to our customers,” says Levengood.
