17 Fun Facts About Classic Cars www.fmins.com

1. The first full-scale, self-propelled

mechanical vehicle was released in 1769. It was a steam-powered tricycle that was used to haul cannons around town. (But, it weighed 8,000 pounds!)

2. The Benz Patent-Motorwagen is believed to be the first modern automobile. German inventor Carl Benz applied for the patent in 1886, and later, his wife took it on the first-ever, long-distance drive. 3. In 1913, the Ford Model T became the first mass-produced automobile. Three years later, 55 percent of all cars in the world were Model Ts, which is a record yet to be broken. 4. The 1964 Pontiac GTO is widely regarded as the first “muscle car.” Pontiac owned the muscle scene in the early 1960s, but by 1968, that car had plenty of competition.

5. The Ford Mustang also made its debut in 1964. It was officially unveiled at the World’s Fair in Flushing Meadows, New York. That same day, the car also debuted in showrooms across America, and close to 22,000 Mustangs were purchased. 6. The first Chevrolet Camaro to ever come off the production line was black. And originally, the Camaro was going to be called the Panther. 7. The 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona was banned by NASCAR. The car was named for the Daytona 500, and with its record-breaking speed, it won the first race it was entered in. Unfortunately, however, it was just too fast to last. 8. Pontiac’s “The Judge” (a 1969 GTO) was named after a TV show skit. At the time, John DeLorean was the man in charge, and he chose to name the car after a show he watched and liked: “Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In.” 9. “The Judge” was also featured in what’s considered the first-ever rock music video. 17 Fun Facts << continued from Page 3 the original TV commercial for this car, Paul Revere and the Raiders sang a song they wrote about it.

10. The original “Dukes of Hazzard” show featured a total of 309 Dodge Chargers – all 1969 editions. How can you tell a 1969 Charger from a 1968? Look for the split grille on the front of the ’69 model. 11. A 1977 Pontiac Trans Am starred in

the movie “Smokey and the Bandit.” Four were provided for the movie – all of which were badly damaged during production.

12. Each member of The Monkees was given a new Pontiac GTO. As part of their contract, everyone on the hit TV show got a hot car for personal use. 13. Flip-out headlights on the Dodge Charger were used for the last time in 1973. Apparently, they didn’t seem very family friendly. 14. There is no 1983 Chevrolet Corvette.

Instead, Chevy skipped a year and introduced an all-new model in 1984. However, there were prototypes of the car, and all but one was destroyed. It now lives in the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

15. Only 11 prototypes of the Porsche 916 exist. It’s one of the rarest cars in the world, as it was soon replaced by the less expensive Porsche 911. 16. Chrysler’s 426 HEMI engine was called “the elephant.” It was extremely large and extremely powerful. In fact, at Daytona in 1964, the vehicles that placed first, second and third

all had this engine – which is why NASCAR would eventually change its engine-related rules.

17. The most expensive car ever sold at a public auction was a 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196R Formula 1 race-car. In 2013, it went for a staggering $30 million.

Can I Switch to Synthetic Oil or a Different Grade?

This is when your owners manual comes in handy. Check the manual to see which oil grade you use, we suggest sticking with that type and not switching to another grade When it comes to switching to synthetic oil, it’s usually problem-free, but when it comes to older vehicles this could be a bad idea! A four-stroke engine can complete a four strokes in a single fuel injection. A four-stroke engine is quiet, more efficient, more expensive, produces lower power for a long period of time, and doesn’t require oil in the fuel.

9 Easy Car Cleaning Hacks

used dryer sheet over your car and watch as the bugs come off so much easier. Then you can wash your car without worrying about them being stuck on.

7. Conditioner With Lanolin Gives A Great Shine.

After a good wash, get your vehicle all nice and shiny. This one might surprise you. Get a conditioner with lanolin in it. You heard me right! One of the best products to shine up your ride is probably already sitting right in your bathroom. www.mom4real.com

1. Squeegee That Pet Hair Away.

Have a spray bottle with plain water in it. Mist the seat where the pet hair is. Don’t soak the seat. A little water goes a long way. Using a squeegee, run it over the upholstery. It will pull all the pet hair with it.

2. Keep The Upholstery Looking Great.

To do a deeper clean of your seats’ upholstery, make a paste out of vinegar and baking soda, scrub it into your upholstery and then rinse it out. It will take away dirt you didn’t even know was in there! It will also help with any weird smells, too!

8. Grab Your Toothbrush And Toothpaste.

When you get to cleaning your headlights, use some toothpaste on a rag. It will do wonders, making your lights crystal clear. And the toothbrush is for inside. When you really want to deep clean the inside of your vehicle, use a toothbrush to get into all the bumps, grooves, and crevasses.

9. Keep Your Wipers From Smudging.

When you're done cleaning your windshield wipers, rub them down with rubbing alcohol. This will help prevent your wipers from leaving smears on your windshield the next time you go to use them.

3. Olive Oil Is Great For Your Dashboard.

Keep your dashboard looking shiny and new with a little olive oil. Rubbing it into your dash will keep it looking nice and it will help keep some moisture in the material. That way, over time, it’s less likely to crack.

4. Cupcake Liners Fit Right Into Your Cupholders.

Once you’ve got your cup holders all cleaned out, put a silicone cupcake liner in them. The liners will gather any gunk and junk and the next time you go to clean the car, all you’ll have to do is take out the liners, shake them out, rinse, dry, and pop them back in!

5. Mason Jar + Laundry Scent Balls = DIY Air Freshener!

Put 1/4 cup of the laundry scent balls into a mason jar. For a lid, use something that has small holes in it. This way, the balls can’t come out of the jar, but their smell will keep your vehicle smelling nice and fresh.

2021 Ford Bronco and Bronco Sport

Available in: Late 2020 (or early 2021) Base price: $32,000 (Bronco, est.), $28,000 (Bronco Sport, est.) Why it’s worth the wait: The legendary Bronco nameplate returns to compete against the Jeep Wrangler. The Bronco is back, and it has the emblematic Jeep Wrangler in its crosshairs. This rugged, body-on-frame off-roader will be available with two or four doors and both versions will come with a removable top. Adventurers will also be able to remove the doors and fold down the windshield. Ford has done its best to keep the design under wraps until the model’s official unveiling but a variety of leaked images revealed it ahead of time.

2022 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer

Available in: Late 2021 Base price: $40,000 (est.), $50,000 (est.) Why it’s worth the wait: Because they will be Jeep’s biggest and most luxurious models. The Grand Cherokee is big, but it’s not big enough. Considering Jeep is an off-roader specialist in a world dominated by high-riding models, it’s a little odd to notice it doesn’t have a full-size, three-row SUV to compete with the Ford Expedition and the Chevrolet Tahoe, among others. That will change in the early 2020s. Jeep confirmed it’s bringing back the Wagoneer and the Grand Wagoneer nameplates on a pair of SUVs that will share their body-onframe construction with the surprisingly docile Ram 1500 pickup. They’ll get an independent rear suspension, up to three rows of seats, and a wide panoply of powertrains including hybrid and diesel options. The luxurious Grand

Wagoneer will chase the Cadillac Escalade and the Lincoln Navigator into six-digit territory.

2022 Tesla Cybertruck

Available in: Late 2021 (or 2022) Base price: $39,900 Why it’s worth the wait: It’s the first electric truck from the company that started the EV craze. Before we dive into the specs and pricing, remember that this futuristic-looking truck has an outer exterior shell (or exoskeleton) made of what Tesla calls ultra-hard 30X cold-rolled stainless steel. It also has what the company calls armor glass, a glass and polymer layered composite that is made to be stronger than regular glass, though this didn’t work as advertised in 2019. And, the cargo box is configured to hold (and charge) an electric ATV. The Cybertruck will come in three flavors. The base, rear-wheel-drive single-motor version ($39,900) will have a driving range of up to 250 miles, a 7,500-pound towing capacity, and a 6.5-second zero-to-60-mph time. The

Page 9

mid-range, all-wheel-drive model ($49,900) will have a 300-mile range, a 10,000-pound towing capacity, and a 4.5-second zero-to-60 time. Finally, the flagship model ($69,900) will drive for about 500 miles between charges, tow 14,000 pounds, and reach 60 in 2.9 seconds. Autopilot and an air suspension will be standard on every variant.

2022 Ford F-150 Electric

Available in: 2022 (or late 2021) Base price: $60,000 (est.) Why it’s worth the wait: It’s the electric version of America’s most popular truck. Unlike the other electric trucks on the list, there is currently little information on the F-150 Electric (prototype pictured above). Besides its ability to tow a train, which isn’t as impressive as it might sound, we don’t know much about it. It’s safe to say this pickup will offer quick acceleration (zero-to-60-mph in about four << continued on Page 10

How Often Should You Wash Your Car?

Page 11

How Often Should You Wash Your Car In The Winter (Fighting Road Salt)?

When it comes to washing your vehicle, you generally have two choices: you can use an automatic car wash or you can hand wash it yourself. The problem with automated systems and their overly large washrag shammy cloth thing often cause harmful damage to your paint. This can be a real problem if you care about your car. Thus, it’s always better to take the extra time to wash your vehicle by hand whenever possible, even when it means fitting it into your overly crammed schedule.

if you live in an area where heavy ice and snow are present, you’ll want to wash your car once a week at a minimum. The reason for this is road salt, which can cause damage to the paint and undercarriage of your car if it isn’t rinsed off periodically. A prime schedule for washing your vehicle during the winter months in this scenario is every ten days at least, but more likely every five to seven days if you commute frequently or there’s an exceptional amount of exposure to salt. You can be a little more lenient if your car has a strong undercoating. And there’s more to it than that. You should only wash your car when the outdoor daytime temperature is above forty degrees. Any temperature lower than that can cause ice damage to your paint due to freezing, which isn’t something you want to have to deal with. Instead, just make sure you’re getting out there and handwashing it when you can and as often as feasible.

Different seasons mean adopting a different regiment for washing your car. For example, in the summer, the UV rays are strongest. That’s when it’s important to suds up your sedan or cleanse your convertible about once every two weeks. And what if you keep your car in the garage when you aren’t driving it? Well, you might not even need to go as often as bi-monthly. Parking your automobile under a cover or inside is a surefire way to keep from having to wash it as often.

Besides washing your car to protect your paint job and remove grime, you also need to be concerned about how often to wax your car. In most cases, this is a task you need to tackle about once every three months. However, if your car is particularly special such as a classic restoration, you’re likely going to want to wax it a little more often. There are tons of waxes designed for monthly, weekly, and even daily use. Waxing your car takes a little more effort than simply washing it, but the benefits will definitely outweigh the time you spend on the process.

www.torquedetail.com While it might be easy to let your car go weeks, months, or even entire seasons between washes, this is definitely not something that most experts recommend. Instead, you should keep a fairly regular schedule to ensure your car looks the best it can at all times. We have to protect our car from all the inevitable features of man and nature such as road grime, tree sap, bird droppings, and acid rain.
