I love getting a monthly facial with Jillian at Hand & Stone, especially in the winter months. This winter, I’m also really hoping to visit The Art Establishment and start throwing some pottery again—it’s been a while, but I’m really looking forward to getting my hands dirty and creating.
I love nothing more than being “snowed in” when no one can go anywhere and we can read a great book, or watch a great TV show with some hot chocolate!
I run along the Little Lehigh Creek in Allentown (Lehigh Parkway), and the silence after some snow is perfection.

RECONNECT
SOUL SISTERS’ STUDIO
“Soul Sisters’ Studio was inspired from my stays at a wellness center in the Berkshires,” shares owner Eva Stephens. “I would talk at length with my dear friends (my soul sisters!) about creating a mini version of this space, and one day I finally said ‘it’s time.’” Stephens set out to create a space that would give women the opportunity to step away from the busyness of day-to-day life and reconnect with themselves—whether that be strolling through the boutique, sharing something they love with others or attending a class with friends. “In our upstairs space, we offer everything from furniture restoration to intuitive eating classes. It’s a supportive environment for women to share their gifts, talents and passions with others. And, we’ve recently made a few wonderful changes, which will allow us to offer even more workshops, such as yoga and meditation,” says Stephens. “The boutique offers items made mostly by women artisans or curated from women- and family-owned businesses. When selecting items, I try to imagine a person buying something for herself as a gift, but everything we offer is a great gift for someone special in your life.”

PLAN YOUR DREAM DAY
LEHIGH VALLEY WEDDING CAFÉ
The team at Lehigh Valley Wedding Café connects engaged couples with wedding specialists who can help execute their dream day. “Our partners include all your core wedding needs, such as venues, photographers and bakeries,” says owner Don Mayock, “as well as things that couples may not even be aware of, like custom crochet wedding dolls or laser-etched wedding party gifts.” Mayock, who has been DJing weddings for almost 18 years, saw a need for a dedicated office space to better serve clients. Once he found the right location, Mayock realized he could offer a lot more to engaged couples and wedding specialists alike. “Our goal is to be a place where engaged couples can plan their entire wedding day with a group of wedding specialists that listens to their needs and makes the day the best possible. We offer a state-of-the-art meeting room for couples to meet with these wedding specialists and articulate their vision,” he shares. They celebrated their grand opening in October and currently welcome clients by appointment only. “We want to make what can typically be a very stressful process as stress-free as possible.”

HANDCRAFTED GOODNESS
A LITTLE BIT OF LOCAL
“A Little Bit of Local aims to bring together a variety of high-quality, local handcrafted goods from the Lehigh Valley and surrounding areas in one convenient location,” shares owner LeeAnn Bower. “The store is set up in a boutique gift shop style so that items are integrated together for a continuous flow rather than having separate vendor booth spaces. With this setting and concept, the idea is that shoppers can support a variety of local small businesses while shopping at one location year-round.” A Little Bit of Local offers everything from honey, handmade breads, coffees and herbal teas to jewelry, candles and home décor. The addition of workshops led by local artisans and crafters allows customers to meet the faces behind the products while also participating in a fun activity. “We also offer the option to book specific workshops for parties,” says Bower.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, COMMUNITY ACTION LEHIGHVALLEY
Community Action is “fighting for good.” What does that mean to you?
We do so much in this community. The mission of Community Action Lehigh Valley is to improve the quality of life by building a community in which all people have access to economic opportunity, the ability to pursue that opportunity and a voice in the decisions that affect their lives. We help people to purchase their first homes and start new businesses. We distribute about 10 million pounds of food a year to people experiencing food insecurity. We help high school students who are low-income, first-generation or minority students to get into college. We help people experiencing
foreclosure to stay in their homes by going to court with them and doing diversion work. There are so many things, I certainly can’t name them all. We do really good stuff!
What are you most proud of about the work that you do?
I used to be a producer for ABC News. Every day, I had to write stories of people who were murdered, hurt, abused and many other tragic stories. Now, I get to see really good things get done every single day.
I get to smile and report to our funders on those things that we do to help so many people in our community.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your career?
The biggest lesson that I’ve learned is not to ever judge anyone else’s circumstances. Having grown up in foster homes, I have gone through quite a bit in my life. I have been blessed to learn through the many circumstances I’ve been through. When people come to me and share their stories of homelessness, hunger, poverty, abuse, etc., I can say that I wholeheartedly listen to their stories and, most of the time, I can truly tell them that I understand what they’ve been through. I listen with my heart and my life experiences.

A SUSTAINABLE OPTION
VERDE
Owner/buyer Shawnnah Drey knew she wanted to go into business for herself, but she always thought it would be something spa-related. “I have been a licensed esthetician for about a decade,” she shares. “But the pandemic changed the beauty industry, as it did with many others.” When Drey was studying to become an esthetician, she learned about ingredients and what reactions they can give the body. “This made me pay more attention to what products I used,” she says. This realization coupled with her love for nature inspired her to make sustainable practices more accessible to others. At Verde, they offer everything from home décor to jewelry, along with locally made soaps, candles, salves and crocheted items. “We also offer household cleaners that can be paid by the ounce in our refillery, or ones that can dissolve in water; all are all-natural, and pet and child safe,” she says. “Some of our popular items have been our laundry sheets and our snarky reusable bags. Our local honey was very popular as well and we sold out quickly.” Drey hopes Verde can be a staple for personal and home care while also being a local hub for gift giving.

NOWHERE COFFEE CO.
Describe the journey that led you to launching Nowhere Coffee Co.
The years leading up to the pandemic had been hectic—we were both working stressful corporate jobs with significant travel requirements while raising three kids. When COVID-19 hit, our attempts to balance family, work, physical and mental health proved unsustainable and our systems broke down. We were running and running and not going anywhere. Something had to
give. For us, that meant career changes. We had been on the road to nowhere. We chose to make nowhere, somewhere.
As the pandemic drew to a close and people began venturing out again, we saw people looking for places to come together in person. That’s when Nowhere Coffee Co. was born. We wanted to create a space that invited people to just enjoy the present moment in a welcoming, warm environment. We opened our first location just as the world was waking

up from its COVID hibernation, and “Going Nowhere” quickly became part of everyone's new routines.
How has Nowhere been welcomed by the community?
We want to create an environment where everyone feels welcomed, respected and valued. We’ve been thrilled to see the mixed representation of all types of individuals in our stores. It feels that our community has welcomed us with open arms. Every day we meet new neighbors, locals and passers-through who seem to greet us and our mission with enthusiasm and joy.
What are some of your most popular offerings?
Whole Lotta Lav consistently tops the charts but recently Turn Back Time and Maple Spice Up Your Life have been big hits. We have some delicious cold brew and cold foam specials and a pretty extensive loose-leaf tea selection. We’ve got freshfrom-the-oven bagels every day and our crustless quiche, the Grateful Egg, with no

gluten. The Hall and Oatsmeal is a baked pumpkin oatmeal sweetened with maple syrup. It's vegan and contains no gluten. We are focusing on expanding our food options in the next few months.
What would you say it is that sets Nowhere apart from other coffee shops?
We are friendly and accessible. We offer a variety of options that make this an easy place to spend time with your friends. If you are a coffee connoisseur or a novice or even a non-coffee drinker, we have something on our menu for you to enjoy. We support a wide variety of dietary preferences with our menu. We offer baked goods without gluten, vegan and vegetarian breakfast options, and full gluten and butter Italian pastries as well.
Tell us about your new location in Emmaus! What plans are there for additional locations? Opening two stores in six months was not part of the original plan, but without risk, there is no reward. Our customers in the West End
almost immediately began telling us that we needed to open a spot in Emmaus. In early summer, we were approached and asked to take over a movein-ready space in the heart of Emmaus. Of course, we said yes.
The South Mountain location has a huge fireplace and picturesque windows that overlook Main Street. Sitting in the space on a Sunday, you see families and dogs walking up and down the street to the farmers' market. Beyond our doors there is a small community of independent businesses including book stores, jewelry stores, candy stores, crystal shops, wellness centers and beauty salons. The Emmaus Main Street partners are so active with festivals and events—it seems there is always something happening in Triangle Park. It’s been great to become part of this new community. Main Street Emmaus is a hidden gem!
What is a drink that readers have to try this winter?
This year’s winter drinks feature syrups crafted in house. The first is called Vanilla Spice
Spice Baby. It is a vanilla and cinnamon latte that features our homemade Madagascar vanilla syrup and our new cinnamon syrup, topped with vanilla powder. The second is called Sgt. Peppermint’s Lonely Mocha Latte and features our classic Dutch mocha and new peppermint syrup.

NUHOUSE, NU YOU
Janel Lukachek FOUNDER, NUHOUSE nu-house.comInfrared sauna, acupuncture, chiropractic care—NuHouse in Easton is a wellness center equipped with all these staples of alternative medicine and more. Founder Janel Lukachek explains her team’s unique approach to health and how you can empower yourself to heal.
WHAT IS NUHOUSE?
With esoteric branding and poetic invitations to “align in the alley, connecting mind, body and soul,” the vibe at NuHouse has folks intrigued and inquisitive. What exactly goes on in there? “It’s something you don’t really understand until you experience it,” Lukachek says. Maybe this is because it’s unusual to have a team of experienced practitioners collaborate on a client’s care in weekly meetings. The “house healers” are masters in their crafts, but also benefit by each other’s wisdom and perspective, combining into a treatment protocol that’s so much more than the sum of its parts. “NuHouse is a home for so many practitioners and a village of clients,” Lukachek says. “Although ‘owner,’ ‘founder’ and ‘COO’ are titles you can place after a name, I can’t take credit for what goes on inside our walls.”
TAILORED TREATMENT
NuHouse’s therapies complement the medical community’s evidence-based and trustworthy treatment, when clients want access to both traditional and alternative. “We don’t prescribe the same type of treatment,” Lukachek says, “for two people with an injured rotator cuff or a cold. Different bodies respond differently to the same treatment. Listen to the body instead of a textbook or the back of a bottle.”
In her personal example, according to Chinese medicine, Lukachek’s body runs cold, so when she tore her intercostal muscle during a bout of COVID coughing, the received wisdom of jumping into cryotherapy caused her muscles to tense terribly. The infrared sauna, instead, is where her muscles will feel relief.
THE SELF-CONTRACT
The team at NuHouse is not content simply applying lasers, acupuncture needles or the mind-body unifying Trager massage. “The first step is a self-contract,” Lukachek explains. “We’re telling you what we think will help you achieve your goals in an acute situation, but the first contract is with yourself.”
Clients have to be open to healing, and oftentimes do the emotional work of releasing what’s pent up inside them causing or contributing to their body’s pain. “We all come with preprogrammed ways, thoughts or emotions we might have been born with or developed,” Lukachek says. The emotion called up by a sentimental song or memory can cause the body to tense protectively, and that’s the kind of feedback loop that can contribute to chronic pain.
LISTEN INWARDLY
It feels great to get a diagnosis and fill a prescription to knock out an illness that’s been bothering you, but when it comes to long-term wellness, it’s unfortunately not always so easy. If there’s an emotional
or spiritual component to our body’s dysregulation, no one can identify the root of it but ourselves. In daily life, Lukachek advises, “Listen to what makes your body and mind feel most at peace, happy and good.” Some days she’s giving herself dark chocolate and a good cry, and some days it’s a cryofreeze followed by sweating it out in the sauna. In trusting our own intuition, we have the power to give ourselves what we need.
WHO CAN BENEFIT AT NUHOUSE?
“The only requirement is to be open to accept healing,” Lukacheck says. “We come full circle in that what everyone is usually searching for is locked within themselves.” If you’re frustrated with chronic pain, tired of taking pills whose side effects seem to compound your issues or just want to take an active role in limbering your systems inside and out, NuHouse is a whole vibe.
The attitude inside is half the battle. Absorbing the intention to reflect, to dive deep and restore the mind-body connection creates rich soil to grow healing experiences. Lukachek emphasizes that being well isn’t a concern just for acute situations: it might mean a mom escaping for a half hour in the infrared sauna, a decadent hour of massage, and a hydrafacial to feel her best, tackle the day and take care of her family.
JOIN THE VILLAGE
“Consumers are placing more value on health and wellness than on material objects these days,” Lukachek muses, “and the definition of health and wellness has evolved. The phrase no longer refers simply to a lack of illness and disease, but to a more holistic state of being, where one’s mental, physical and emotional health are in sync.”
You’ll always be the one noticing when something’s out of balance and taking the initiative to feed yourself what’s needed every day, and you can enlist the aid of healers like those at NuHouse to walk with you on this journey.

hyg ge A GUIDE TO
BY AMY UNGERgeMaybe you don’t know how to say it, or you’re not quite sure what it means, but trust us, you need some hygge in your life. Hygge is derived from an old Norwegian term, hugga, which translates to “to comfort.” In more recent years, it’s been associated with a Danish concept of emphasizing one’s overall well-being and finding happiness in simple, everyday pleasures that inspire warmth and coziness. Pronunciations vary—hyooguh, hoo-ga, hue-gah—and so do the parameters for what defines hygge for every individual. Just know that hygge can be practiced alone or with company, and it’s the perfect thing to get you through the doldrums of another Pennsylvania winter. Read on for some suggestions about how to find your comfort and joy in the Lehigh Valley and beyond.
DINE ON A HEATED PATIO
Al fresco dining can be delightful even when the temperatures head south, thanks to fire pits and portable heaters. Sip and snack while you take in the view at the Slopeside Pub & Grill at Blue Mountain. Union and Finch in Allentown is keeping its patio area open on winter weekends and for special events. The Shelby in Lower Macungie is working on a revamped outdoor space that aims to create a park-like setting that will be open year-round.
SIP ON SOMETHING BOOZY
A nip or two on an expertly crafted cocktail can help you cope with the chill of Old Man Winter. Social Still in Bethlehem is one of the growing number of local distilleries that whip up the goods right here in the Valley. And you can always count on Bolete in Salisbury Township to come up with an array of divine seasonal sips.
SIP ON SOMETHING NON-BOOZY
If hot chocolate is what you crave (and why wouldn’t you?), the store-bought powdered stuff does just fine in a pinch. Just remember that you can upgrade this traditional winter warm-up at places like Choco B in Allentown, Chocolate Lab in Bethlehem and Chocodiem at the Easton Public Market.
TAKE A WALK IN THE WOODS
The crunch of your boots on the frozen ground. A clear blue sky above you, and an invitation for exploration in front of you. Get lost in the woods (figuratively, of course) for a few hours at Trexler Nature Preserve in Schnecksville, Delaware Water Gap in Bushkill or Jacobsburg State Park in Nazareth. You’ll find out why authors, poets and other creative types have long looked for inspiration among the trees.
CURL UP WITH A GOOD BOOK
Settling in next to a roaring fire with a page-turner in your lap just doesn’t hit the same if you can’t actually turn the pages. If you’re open to giving your e-reader a rest, visit Easton’s Quadrant Book Mart or The Old Library Bookshop in Bethlehem and pick out a good old-fashioned hardcover or paperback. Even if you’re not sure what you’re looking for, chances are good you’ll find something that catches your eye while browsing either shop’s well-stocked shelves.
UNWIND AT THE SPA
A “me day” and a “spa day” are basically one and the same. Whether you’re just looking to be pampered with a basic massage or your winter-worn body needs some serious head-to-toe TLC, stop by The Spa at Bear Creek in Macungie, Hand and Stone Massage and Facial Spa in Center Valley or The Spa at Mount Airy in the Poconos.
MASTER MEDITATION
Maybe this is the year when you finally give meditation a try. New Leaf Meditation Project is an online community that offers free workshops and sessions on Zoom.
If you’re looking for something a little more visceral, book a salt room session (solo or with your pals) at Salt Cove Wellness in Bath, which also offers sound healing and vibration sound therapy. Sole Wellness Studio in Easton is also a proponent of salt therapy (halotherapy) and offers sessions individually or by the bundle. Another option: float the afternoon away at Metta Relaxation in Bethlehem.
LET THE FLICKERING COMMENCE
Why does candlelight conjure up feelings of placidity? Why does any room seem infinitely more intimate and inviting when it’s bathed in the soft glow of a flickering candle? While the scientists ponder those and other burning questions, get thee to Easton Candle Company to stock up on all the candles, wax melts and diffusers you need to transform your home into the artfully lit and delightfully scented haven you want it to be.
CREATE YOUR OWN COZY
Knitting exploded in popularity during the pandemic. But, even if you have yet to rock a purl stitch or a stockinette stitch, there’s no time like the present. The Knitter’s Edge in Bethlehem bills itself as the largest yarn shop in Pennsylvania. Besides stocking yarn in every color of the rainbow, as well as all the hooks, needles and notions you’ll need to stitch the night away, the shop also offers classes for beginners and advanced knitters and crocheters.
Even if knitting isn’t your thing, creative spaces abound in the Lehigh Valley for those who want to revisit an artistic inclination from years ago or try something new. Allentown’s Baum School of Art offers classes for adults, children and teens throughout the year. Planning a party? Places like Art Fusion in Whitehall and Out of Our Minds Art Studio in Macungie can cater to a crowd that wants to get a little crafty.
SLIP INTO A PAIR OF ALPACA SOCKS
Alpaca fiber is similar to sheep’s wool but is known to be warmer and stronger without weighing down the wearer. Picnic Woods Alpacas in Lehighton offers hats, gloves, socks, blankets and more made from 100-percent alpaca yarn. Bonus: meet and greet the alpacas on weekends when the farm is open to visitors. Otherwise, give them a call to make an appointment to do some shopping.
WATCH A NEW (OR NEW TO YOU) MOVIE AT AN OLD THEATER
Allentown’s Civic Theatre (founded in 1927), the Roxy Theatre in Northampton (founded in 1921) and the Emmaus Theatre (founded in the 1920s) have a collective history of nearly 300 years. On those days when streaming at home isn’t cutting it, go and see why these grand old movie houses have such staying power. Be sure to splurge on a popcorn and fountain soda to get the full in-person experience.
COOK OR BAKE SOMETHING AT HOME
While we’re all about patronizing the Lehigh Valley’s many delicious dining establishments, there’s something to be said about embracing the role of home cook once in a while. Pick a day to tackle a recipe you’ve have bookmarked for weeks and make it happen. If your pantry is lacking, start your day with a trip to the Allentown Farmers Market or Slatington Farmers Market (both are indoor) to stock up on the things you need for a home-cooked feast. Even if you’d rather let someone else handle the food prep, both places offer grab-and-go meals and treats.
GAME NIGHT WITH FRIENDS
A classic game night with your chums can make for the perfect blend of camaraderie and (hopefully mild) competitiveness. If you find yourself bored with the old standbys like Life and Monopoly, pick up something new at Cloud City Games inside the Lehigh Valley Mall. Or, hand over host duties to Easton’s Mythic Beasts and Brews, where you can try out games with your crew while getting your caffeine on.
SPEND TIME WITH FURRY FRIENDS
There’s a reason why animals play a prominent role in certain types of therapy: being around our four-legged companions is just good for the soul. You can welcome a dog or cat into your home on a temporary basis as a foster family by contacting local shelters and rescues like Peaceable Kingdom in Whitehall, The Sanctuary at Haafsville in Breinigsville and Last Chance Ranch in Quakertown.
TREAT YOURSELF TO A WEEKEND
AWAY… NEARBY
If you and your sofa have gotten to know each other a little too well as of late, maybe it’s time for a change of scenery. A stay at one of the rustic suites at the Glasbern Inn in Fogelsville, or inside Bethlehem’s historic Sayre Mansion, is as good as taking a vacation without the hassle of leaving town.
OR TAKE A MINI ROAD TRIP TO A PLACE THAT TAKES HYGGE SERIOUSLY
Bar Hygge is just a car ride away on Fairmount Avenue in Philadelphia. It offers a contemporary American menu with seasonal changes and a focus on neighborhood comfort food. Gather up some friends, sink into a stuffed sofa or comfy couch and nibble on a hygge board, a pickyour-own sampler with a variety of mouthwatering options.
BEYOND THE MENU
Umstead is pictured here with Randevoo's Chef Claud.
Zach Umstead, chef/owner of Randevoo Restaurant in Bethlehem, says his mother and both of his grandmothers were great cooks and that he learned a lot from them growing up. “In high school, I started making food for all my friends that would come over to our house— lunches and late-night snacks. They would then go back to their moms and ask them if they could recreate the things I was making them,” he laughs.
Right after high school, Umstead went on to culinary school in Pittsburgh, and at age 19 he moved to Colorado to do his externship at the base of Beaver Creek Resort. Over the course of 10 years, Umstead worked at several different fine dining restaurants. “This is where I got my foundation for cooking,” he says. But he started to miss his family and made the move back to the Lehigh Valley, where he started the Randevoo Food Truck in 2017. “I took a loan out and got the truck on Craigslist,” he shares. A relationship was born with Lost Tavern Brewing by taking the truck to their Hellertown brewery: “In 2020, they asked me if I wanted to do the food in their taproom on Main Street, Bethlehem.” Umstead said yes, and in August 2020, Randevoo Restaurant opened, offering a more expansive menu as well as sushi.
Here, he’s sharing his recipe for Crispy Pork Belly Lo Mein. Umstead says it’s funny how some dishes are born, including this one: “While working on the food truck, I decided to get us some lo mein noodles so we could make something different for us to eat while working that day. We cooked everything on the flat top, which enabled the noodles to get a slight crisp texture, used the pork belly from our pork belly steamed buns and, of
course, Randvoo sweet chili, with some vegetables we had on the truck. It was amazing!”
Umstead says the key is the Randevoo sweet chili sauce (he grows all of the peppers to make it), which can be purchased at the restaurant. He recommends getting your noodles and vegetables from Irene at the Evergreen Oriental Market in Allentown. While you’re there, Umstead suggests purchasing some fun stuff you’ve never seen before and to try cooking it at home. “Food is fun and sometimes fun is foreign to keep your taste buds on their toes,” he says. “Randevoo and try something new!”
An edamame appetizer and Lost Tavern’s Randevoo DIPA (or any of their rotating IPAs) complete the meal, according to Umstead. But while he’s giving you everything you need to make this at home, Umstead says it’s probably easiest to just come enjoy it at the restaurant—“We do the dishes,” he laughs.

Serves 2
INGREDIENTS
1 lb. lo mein noodles
2 tsp. canola oil
1 tsp. sesame oil
12 ounces braised pork belly, diced*
½ cup sliced water chestnuts
½ cup baby corn
½ cup shredded carrots
½ cup shredded cabbage
2 ounces Randevoo sweet chili sauce (vegan)
1 Tbsp. toasted sesame seeds
4 green onions, sliced
*Randevoo uses a special pork belly recipe that consists of a five-day process. For those opting not to use pork belly,
Umstead says you can substitute with any protein of your choice, like a pork loin chopped into ¼-inch cubes.
INSTRUCTIONS
Bring a pot of water to a boil.
Open noodle package and gently loosen the noodles apart from each other.
When water boils, add noodles and stir so they do not stick to the bottom of the pan. Let water come back up to a boil and cook for an additional two minutes. (“Don’t overcook your noodles,” advises Umstead. “Cook them
until they are nice and springy. Al dente to the tooth.”)
Strain noodles and rinse with cold water; let drain. Toss noodles in 1 tsp. of canola oil and 1 tsp. of sesame oil. Set noodles aside.
Put 1 tsp. canola oil in large wok or sauté pan on medium-high heat.
Add pork belly pieces and cook until crispy all around for about three minutes.
Add water chestnuts and baby corn. Sauté for one minute.
Add noodles, let cook and get

slightly crispy for three minutes. Add carrots and cabbage. Toss and let cook for one minute.
Lastly, add the Randevoo sweet chili sauce and toss.
Turn off heat. Plate into two “fancy” bowls.
Garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
Note: Randevoo can make this dish vegan using rice noodles and vegan fried chicken. “If you can use a vegan lo mein noodle, try that. And you can bulk this up with as many different fun vegetables as you want.”

OREO CRÈME BRÛLÉE MILK TEA
Hocaa Bubble Tea
Hocaa Bubble Tea’s Oreo Crème Brûlée Milk Tea combines the design and concept of bonsai milk tea and dirty milk tea, both of which, according to Hocaa manager Tony Cheng, have become popular in East Asia in recent years. Cheng says bonsai milk teas have a milk cap (a thick milky foam on top) and dirty milk teas are made using the technique of “walling the cup” with syrup so that it stays on the walls of the cup as one sips.
“We put Oreo cookie crumbs on top of the milk cap,” says Cheng. “And instead of using syrup, we wall the cup with a special homemade flavor cream. We named it ‘crème brûlée cream’ as it has both vanilla cake flavor and caramel sea salt flavor. This cream makes this cup of milk tea taste more exquisite and diversified.”
The drink is comprised of select black teas, lactated milk, condensed milk, sugar, caramel, sea salt and chewy tapioca pearls (which Cheng says they call the drink’s brown sugar bubble). Available year-round, the drink can be ordered hot or cold.
With any order, customers can choose how much sugar or ice they want in their beverage, with the sugar level available as 0 percent, 30 percent, 50 percent, 70 percent or 100 percent. Non-caffeine and nondairy drinks are also available for order. Don’t miss Hocaa’s bubble waffles with ice cream.

SABINE & JOSE
ALI WHITBY PHOTOGRAPHYTHE PROPOSAL
Sabine Page and Jose Grullon met at Rutgers University, then maintained their relationship long distance afterward, Sabine off to dental school and Jose to podiatry. Sabine’s graduation was cause enough for celebration, but it would also be the day Jose proposed amid friends and family, making her both a fiancée and a doctor.
THE BIG DAY
Their wedding took place at Rodale Institute’s apple orchard, with guests transported to the occasion by tractor wagon. A live painter and sangria bar on site preceded the ceremony, and cocktail hour took place among organically-grown florals and sunflowers—a beautiful setting for photos. At the barn reception, fireplace s’mores and a photo booth followed up incredible food and a mobile bar. Honey jars were the couple’s wedding favor, along with flip-flops to accommodate dancing! The whole event was decked with farm florals: trees, flowers, wild grasses, herbs and more imparting natural elegance to a perfect day.

YURIEM & IVY
JESSICA MANNS PHOTOGRAPHYTHE PROPOSAL
Yuriem Rodriguez and Ivy Maldonado met through Tinder a few days into 2018. Their comfortable date consisting of wine and PlayStation just felt right. About two years later at Yuriem’s birthday party surrounded by family and friends, the happy birthday song ended and their song began playing to accompany Yuriem’s surprise proposal!
THE BIG DAY
Their nuptials were imbued with the deep love and support of a close-knit community. Yuriem’s aunt became an ordained minister for the occasion and her nephew acted as “bridesman,” doubling as flower boy with Ivy’s niece. A violinist played Disney classics “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” and “Kiss the Girl” as the two processed. A sand ceremony symbolized the combining of their lives, and a shower of bubbles accompanied their exit as Mrs. and Mrs. As the father-daughter dances and hilarious toasts concluded, the dance floor was struck by a flash mob neither bride saw coming! The perfect day ended with a sparkler send-off.

MADISON & JEAN CARLOS
ALYSSA JANE PHOTOGRAPHYTHE PROPOSAL
Madison Rizzolino and Jean Carlos (JC) Falcon met at DeSales University in their junior year. After moving to Los Angeles, one of the first spots they visited was a gorgeous cliffside beach, future site of their engagement. Under the guise of a photoshoot, JC surprised Madison on one knee, with family waiting to celebrate.
THE BIG DAY
The couple returned east to host the wedding in Madison’s parents’ beloved backyard in Nazareth. Not just meaningful, the venue also allowed flexibility in catering, so the Dominican food of JC’s culture could play a part.
With a clear-top tent and candle arrangements floating in the pool, the property was transformed into an oasis of foliage on a flawless summer day. Luxury toilets with toiletry baskets and a surprise late-night ice cream truck ensured that guests were treated to everything they could need. Dancing the night away with friends and family, Madison and JC couldn’t have asked for anything more!

KAITLYN & JOSH
ALISON CONKLIN PHOTOGRAPHYTHE PROPOSAL
Kaitlyn Grovatt and Josh Pope were dateless on Valentine’s Day their senior year, perfect circumstances for a mutual friend to introduce them at a party where they quickly hit it off. Years later, Josh surprised Kaitlyn in a rose garden with their dog’s bandanna reading, “Mom, will you marry my dad?”
THE BIG DAY
The wedding was preceded by a white-out welcome party for guests in their snowiest attire, and since they called for Black Tie on the hot summer day-of, they provided a fan for each guest. The dance floor was packed and the black-andwhite photo booth gave both a print and social media boomerang option to share the revelry. After hours, guests were treated to a food truck: McDonald’s cuisine and candy to fuel celebrations that continued at Sky Top Tavern. Beyond grateful for their nearest and dearest, Kaitlyn and Josh supplied hangover kits and their favorite Kahuna Treats in each guest’s room.
DETAILS
Safe, comfortable, cozy and convenient, we offer a wide array of facial rejuvenation services—injectables, peels, facials, at-home skincare, specialized products and more—to provide the perfect solution for personal pampering, pre-event parties and mid-day glam-ups.
CHELSEA & ZACHARY
ADDISON GEORGE PHOTOGRAPHYTHE PROPOSAL
Chelsea Harlan and Zachary Merkle met senior year of high school when Chelsea slid into Zach’s Twitter DMs. Chelsea is from Texas, so Zach made the proposal special by popping the question while they were visiting for Thanksgiving so her entire family could be involved.
THE BIG DAY
They held their wedding on a chilly, rainy day, warming family and friends with the glow of candlelight, Christmas trees and trays of holiday cookies. Having lost her father, Chelsea was walked down the aisle by Zach’s father and stepfather, and the couple recreated his grandparents’ wedding photo to display at home beside the original. Their 30-person head table included all their closest people, and a cute vintage telephone recorded personal messages as an audible guest book. As the couple glided into their first dance, the scene was captured by a live painter, creating yet another heirloom treasure from an unforgettable event full of sentiment and style.

Jessica O’Donnell and Ricky Gower, Jr. met when Jessica began her new career with the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. As the Hellertown/Lower Saucon Chamber liaison, she got acquainted with board member Ricky. The ideal spot for Ricky’s proposal was their first home on Sunset Drive, followed by celebration in NYC by way of stretch limo.
THE BIG DAY
A chance of storms threatened their wedding at breathtaking Pocono Palms, but the sun broke through just as Jessica’s father walked her down the aisle. From gorgeous floral arrangements to custom signage, edible cocktail toppers and his and hers Louboutins, every detail was divine. The ceremony incorporated the couple’s kids, Lena and Nico, and the new family followed up with an official Gower Family Ribbon Cutting.
A lively cocktail hour followed a raw oyster bar, Marry-Me Margaritas and acoustic tunes by local musician Anthony Cubbage. Jessica and Ricky’s wedding vendors teamed up impeccably to create perfection.

PATRICIA JOHNSON
Owner, Ornithea House of Flowers
Patricia Johnson’s passion for “all things floral” dates to her time in NYC attending The Fashion Institute of Technology, where she spent significant time wandering the streets of the Flower Market. The visual and sensual stimulation of flowers inspired her work in the fashion industry and later her home garden, where arranging and growing special-occasion flowers quickly became routine. By 2019, the merger of fashion and flowers was complete.
“House of Flowers” is an ode to Patricia’s fashion industry background. Her connections to the NYC Flower Market have given her knowledge and a place to purchase unique florals and greenery from the world’s best sources. Her expertise in color, shape and texture is a cornerstone of the business.
