Elevated Living

Platform Five

It’s hard to say if Hagai Feiner became a successful property manager by accident or design. The Israeli-born Feiner was president of his own networking solutions company, Access Networks, and living in California when he purchased an old building at 225 Ferry Street in Easton as an East Coast office.

Feiner had always been drawn to designing spaces, but it was the thrill of a two-year transformation of that circa-1847 building into a high-end, modern workplace and the subsequent purchase of a Sitgreaves Street property that tipped the scales toward full-time historic preservation and property management. The path was clear. Feiner sold Access Networks and founded Platform Five.

“Platform Five honors Easton’s proud heritage by refurbishing landmark spaces that fuse character with modern convenience,” says Feiner. Hardwood floors, open concept design and gourmet kitchens with stainless steel appliances and granite countertops are featured in the over a dozen rental properties the company manages in the city’s urban core.

More than renting a place to sleep at night, Platform Five offers an entire lifestyle. “You’re getting a quality space that you can call home with amenities like the co-working space and community garden,” says property manager Shayna Marra. “It’s taking the average rental experience and elevating it.”

The team at Platform Five is proud of their shared passion and the quality and care that go into every home project and every interaction with tenants. They live and breathe the company pillars of integrity, service and community. Plans are in the works to open a technical school next door to the Platform Five office—further evidence of Feiner’s commitment to equity and community in his Easton neighborhood.

THE FACE OF Insurance Solutions

Brown & Brown

Emily Reiter is someone who puts a great deal of energy into life. Very early on, the Wilson Area High School valedictorian and Moravian University grad recognized that her true career path led to the insurance industry. As a risk management advisor working at Brown & Brown in Bethlehem, she’s found the perfect environment to channel that positivity into making a difference in the lives of their customers.

Brown & Brown is the fifth largest independent insurance brokerage nationwide, offering risk management and commercial insurance, employee benefits, personal insurance and specialties. As a meritocracy, Brown & Brown promotes integrity, superior capabilities and discipline, which Reiter takes to heart.

Reiter highlights the ability to network and aid the direct community. To motivate herself in the fluctuating and competitive insurance world, Reiter focuses on Brown & Brown’s corporate symbol: the cheetah. The cheetah, representing vision, swiftness, strength and agility, embodies Brown & Brown’s company culture and has served as a symbol since the 1980s. “When faced with unprecedented challenges, I always envision the cheetah,” she says. “At Brown & Brown, we always say, ‘the only constant is change,’ and it is this idea of an ever-changing trail that motivates me to forge my paths.”

Employee Benefits and Client Advocacy

BSI Corporate Benefits

Tony DaRe worked at Geisinger Health Plan and Michigan M-Care for a few years when he realized it was the clients he served, not the insurance carriers, that he wanted to advocate for. In 2003 he founded BSI Corporate Benefits (BSI) with a mission to serve clients on both a human and financial level, and redefined the industry by positioning BSI as a consultant rather than a broker or agent.

Today, BSI is an independently owned, privately held employee benefits firm headquartered in the Lehigh Valley and run by an executive team with over 125 years of combined industry experience. Agency Principal and CEO DaRe and his 40 employees (70 percent of whom are female) share a passion for raising the bar for others to follow. Together, they have consistently delivered six-and seven-figure savings as well as best-in-class services to clients.

BSI distinguishes itself from other consulting firms in acting as a true partner to the over 170 corporations it serves in the U.S. and Canada. Team members are completely integrated and in contact with their clients and insured members on a daily basis, working to minimize the workload of their clients’ human resources departments.

“As our industry is in a constant state of evolution,” says DaRe, “it remains our people and level of service that separates BSI from our competitors. We pride ourselves in being a client-focused company and we love our team.”

The industry and community have taken note of BSI’s growth, client satisfaction and employee retention successes. Being recognized as Best Benefits Firm, Fastest Growing, Best Places to Work, Inc. 5000, Who’s Who in Employee Benefits, Best in Business and Business of the Year: these are just a few of the many accolades BSI has received in 20 years of delivering on promises made to its team and clients.

Nanci Emiliani was a loyal guest at a European Wax Center in New Jersey when she fell in love with the brand and their mission. The attraction was so strong that she opened her own wax centers in the Lehigh Valley to help both women and men reveal their best skin.

“Having people feel more confident and powerful from hair removal is what I love the most,” Emiliani says. The Lehigh Valley clearly loves her back; the success of her first wax center on Airport Road has spawned the addition of two locations Allentown: Hamilton Crossings and the newest being The Promenade Shops at Saucon Valley.

Guests are treated to the “Four Steps to Gorgeous” process where skin is prepped and treated for the most comfortable experience possible. They can see what a difference a visit to the center can make in someone’s life. Emiliani’s passion is to help women grow and accomplish anything they put their mind to. This includes her own daughter. “I am a single mom and my goal is to show her you can have it all.”

THE FACE OF Women’s Heart & Vascular Care

Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute

Heart disease is the number one cause of death for women in the U.S., affecting one in five.

Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute and its Women’s Heart and Vascular Program are out to improve those odds.

The Women’s Heart and Vascular Program, formed over 20 years ago, is one of the largest of its kind in the country. The program’s team of experienced, caring female cardiologists understand women have unique risk factors, symptoms and treatment for cardiovascular disease, and they’re passionate about achieving great outcomes.

They’re experts in their field, some even speaking internationally on topics including maternal heart health and cardio-oncology, a branch of medicine that focuses on potential detrimental effects of some cancer drugs on the heart.

Here, women can partner with women for prevention, treatment and management of a wide range of heart conditions. Life events like pregnancy and menopause, cancer therapies or conditions like peripheral artery disease and high cholesterol, are among things that can present unique heart health challenges for women.

Women are different than men. And that includes their heart.

St. Luke’s OMS

St. Luke’s OMS wants to help give patients their smile back. With the largest range of oral surgery services in the Lehigh Valley, they are the region’s premier oral surgery practice.

Valley native Dr. Wayne Saunders founded the practice in 2002 when he saw the need to offer quality, affordable oral surgery and dental implant care locally. What was once a one-man office has since grown to nine doctors and five convenient locations in Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton and Stroudsburg, with the newest Implant Center opening in Bethlehem.

Services at St Luke’s OMS include dental extractions, dental implants, wisdom teeth extractions, bone grafting, alveoloplasty, and oral pathology. The doctors are also on staff and on call for facial trauma needs at St. Luke’s University Health Network.

The Implant Center by St. Luke’s OMS is the only provider in the region with a YOMI robot, a state-of-the-art piece of robotic technology to assist in guided implant surgery. Greater accuracy and improved surgical and restorative outcomes are to be expected with this new tool.

Patients will be pleased to know that The Implant Center by St. Luke’s OMS also offers cosmetic therapy services. Botox, Juvederm and hydrafacial treatments are available in the office and procedures are supervised by a doctor. Oral surgery can be daunting for patients. Knowing that, the doctors and staff do their best to provide a positive experience in a gentle, safe and secure environment. Patients never fail to remark how comfortable they were made to feel, how welcoming and trustworthy their surgeon was and how an implant restored their self-confidence. “Our patients motivate us every day to be the best because the best is what they deserve,” says Saunders. “Being able to help so many people is very rewarding.”

Love and Medicine

St. Luke’s University Health Network

St. Luke’s attracts some of the best and brightest minds to train and work in its award-winning health network in the time-honored mission of caring for the ill and injured. And sometimes love blooms there.

Drs. Erin and Chuck Bendas discovered their special connection on Thanksgiving Day, 2010. Both residents-in-training, they helped to resuscitate a desperately ill patient in the ICU. As Chuck took charge of the emergency, Cupid’s arrow landed. “I was in awe of him,” Erin recalls, although both felt an earlier mutual attraction.

Erin had arrived in Bethlehem after medical school in Kansas City, MO. Chuck earned his medical degree from Drexel. Their first date was the next day: a Harry Potter film. The rest is magic, and they soon will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary and 13th year with St. Luke’s, where they came to train and chose to stay. Erin Bendas, DO, is now the chief of Palliative & Support Medicine and Chuck Bendas, MD, is a trauma/surgical critical care physician. While their path to finding love isn’t the same as everyone’s, it works for them, and grows day by day.

Classroom discussions at the co-educational college prep school focus on bigger ideas and deeper learning in an environment that’s more about discovery than deadlines.

“The critical and creative ways our students respond to a constantly changing world is a continual source of inspiration for our entire community,” says new Head of School Adrianne Finley Odell. “Curiosity drives innovation here, and it’s evident in our students’ remarkable work.”

As they move towards the future with confidence, graduates can also feel proud knowing they’re a part of a tradition of educational excellence dating back three centuries. THE FACE OF Home Comfort Comfort Generation

Chuck Williams created Comfort Generation in 2014. After nearly 30 years in the HVAC industry and with a long history of helping others through volunteer work and charitable donations, he ventured out to start a company whose values and passions matched his own.

Williams and his team of fully licensed professionals believe strongly that everyone deserves to feel comfortable and safe in their own home. Whether a customer is having issues with a furnace, boiler, A/C or heat pump, Comfort Generation can help by installing a new system, making repairs when needed and providing regular maintenance.

“Our goal is to keep your home’s temperature not too hot and not too cold, your home’s heating and cooling systems operating safely and efficiently, and to give you exceptional indoor air quality,” says Williams.

Comfort Generation has grown to be one of the dominant HVAC providers in the Lehigh Valley, thanks to their blend of modern technology and outstanding customer service. Says Williams: “At Comfort Generation in Emmaus, your family’s concern is our priority.”

THE FACE OF Video Production

ASR Media Productions

Ashley Russo founded ASR Media 10 years ago. Flash forward to 2023 and the company is better than ever, having created thousands of videos, produced hundreds of television episodes, been awarded five Emmys® and reached tens of millions of folks online.

During its humble beginning as the production team behind The PEAK TV, supported in part by St. Luke’s University Health Network, Ashley recognized the need for quality, meaningful storytelling and began building relationships with others who believed in the power of video. With the help of now Vice President of Production & Operations Katie Santana, their formidable passion built the medium into a Lehigh Valley cornerstone.

The Bethlehem-native production company offers premier corporate and nonprofit overviews, exciting event coverage, compelling testimonials, engaging commercials, sleek motion graphics and stunning drone footage services to 150 nationwide clients and counting. Eleven creative professionals from project manager to the eight-person production crew, including a director of photography, three editors and two producers, bring stories to life each day.

Area nonprofits hold a special place in the hearts of the ASR team, and they regularly work and volunteer with partners like the Volunteer Center of the Lehigh Valley, Habitat for Humanity of the Lehigh Valley, and United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley. The ASR team continues to fine-tune its skills and is ready to meet the challenges of new clients and conceptualize fresh opportunities for existing customers.
