Kaltsas’ wife Jess and daughter Addie are often found helping around the restaurant. Addie is known for standing outside, encouraging pedestrians to stop in for a bite. She then waits on tables, earning tips — a young Greater Reading entrepreneur in the making.
Originally starting a Greek restaurant, Kaltsas found his passion in serving upscale breakfast and lunch, leading to the creation of FRESH. Known for its homemade sticky buns, FRESH’s slogan, “Curated for right now,” ensures guests receive the latest trends in breakfast and lunch fare.

AFTERMARKET PRODUCTION
SUPERVISOR, Seakeeper
LIVES IN SAINT LAWRENCE
In November 2007, Chad Davis was hired as a machine operator for JOMA Machine Company of Mohnton, which Seakeeper had contracted to machine the components that go into its products. The two companies merged in 2011. Throughout the years, Davis has worn many hats — Machine Operator, Factory Acceptance Test technician, Engineering Support Team, Advanced Manufacturing Team and now Aftermarket Operations.

His role as Aftermarket Production Supervisor is to support and lead the team responsible for transforming returned products into remanufactured Seakeeper units. He drives continuous improvement throughout the production and manufacturing process, increasing capacity and improving operational effectiveness and efficiency.
Davis takes immense pride in being a part of the handful of people at the company who can say they’ve been a part of Seakeeper since the beginning. He likes to think they were instrumental in the growth during those early years and is honored that he can continue to do so in any capacity.
Davis says Seakeeper is a blend of an adhocracy, collaborative and creative cultures where department leaders empower their teams to achieve their goals. The departments work together to create an industry-leading product that is transforming the boating experience for so many.
Reading, Pa., is Davis’ hometown, which he says has so much to offer — parks, hiking, community events, shopping, plenty of dining options and history. There’s no shortage of career opportunities either with manufacturing and health care being predominant in the area.
Ebony MCNEIL
UNIVERSAL BRANCH MANAGER,
Members 1st Federal Credit Union
Members 1st Federal Credit Union encourages professional and personal development. It even requires its employees to complete volunteer hours each year and is considered as part of their year-end review. The “amazing and inclusive culture” at Members 1st Federal Credit Union is a big part of what convinced McNeil to accept the position there. He says the company goes above and beyond to make sure all employees feel valued and included. “We before me,” is a common company phrase.
A typical day for McNeil starts with a team huddle to look at the goals for the day. He spends some of his time on leadership calls and can even be found hopping on the teller line when needed to ensure all Members 1st members have a minimal wait.
LIVES IN MUHLENBERG TOWNSHIP
For more than two years, Ebony McNeil has been the Universal Branch Manager at Members 1st Federal Credit Union in Sinking Spring. McNeil is also the Founder & Executive Director of The Forge, a men’s enhancement group that focuses on character-building, leadership and accountability. The group is free to men 16 years old and above and meets once per month.
Bringing Members 1st Federal Credit Union products and services to a business —giving them the tools to watch them grow — is most rewarding for McNeil.
McNeil says Greater Reading is a great place to relocate because business is growing in all industries, especially in entrepreneurship and small business. He was born and raised in the city of Reading, so working in Greater Reading was a “no-brainer” for him.
Contento started as an intern at the R-Phils in 2007. After working in Greater Reading for over a decade, she left in 2019. After announcing her return back she couldn’t believe the number of calls, LinkedIn messages, texts and hugs she received upon the announcement. She says it’s part of the testament to the longevity by which this region maintains its people.
Opening a new event space requires a lot of not-so-typical job duties. Most recently Contento’s focus has been setting up a CRM, establishing catering partnerships and introducing the space not only to the community, partners and internal R-Phils team, but also networks outside of Greater Reading.
The R-Phils have been a fixture in this community for over 50 years bringing affordable family fun to Greater Reading and beyond. “We are proud of our history and excited about the future as it pertains to this $45 million game changer for us, our fans, players and the community as a whole,” she said.
The Redner’s Event Center allows the organization to provide unique memorable experiences for fans outside of game day. Those unique memorable experiences can now happen at Baseballtown with this year-round facility. The R-Phils organization is one big family and is family focused in all the ways an employee would want an employer to be.

LindaCONSOLE-BRAM
MS, PHD, ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PHARMACOLOGY & PHYSIOLOGY, Drexel University College of Medicine at Tower Health
LIVES IN BRECKNOCK TOWNSHIP
Console-Bram’s role as an educator at Drexel University College of Medicine at Tower Health (DUCOM) is to collaboratively work with her colleagues to integrate medical education, specifically pharmacology, into the educational curriculum for firstand second-year students in medical education. As a course thread director, she organizes active learning as well as independent learning modules of education that demonstrate to the students that medicine is a collaborative field where everyone comes together with their specialties to effectively take care of patients.
Her typical day varies from facilitating active learning modules, developing curriculum for independent learning modules and collaborating with other faculty members to ensure experiential learning activities take place. She also assesses students and faculty regularly to ensure desired outcomes are being met.
The West Reading campus delivers the same curriculum as the Philadelphia campus, which is why the integration of technology is so important because it allows them to collaborate more easily. Console-Bram said it is so rewarding to be able to share her love of Pharmacology with DUCOM and Tower Health and to be able to educate the next generation of physicians in her backyard.
DUCOM has several mechanisms in place to support the continued growth and development of its faculty. The culture and environment are very supportive, innovative, and always trying to find a different way to deliver education utilizing the latest technology. Medicine is constantly evolving, and continuous innovation is a must. The same is true for students. “We are deliberate in promoting and providing wellness opportunities for our students. Some of these include a wellness week, clubs, on-campus gym, a kitchen, a student lounge and showers. We encourage our students to take care of themselves,” she said.
“We have the same great amenities as a big city, but with a more relaxed pace. We have great schools and universities, and now a medical school to etch our place on the map,” she said. Greater Reading has further developed into such a wonderful community with the influx of cultural diversity, the arts, main streets and beautiful, open spaces.

He said the administration is open to new ideas and empowers its staff to be creative while addressing challenges.
Greater Reading is a great place to live, especially if you are a person who wants to get involved in the community to make a difference. The community is full of innovators and problem solvers who want to share their knowledge with others for the greater good.
The most rewarding aspect of his job is seeing the excitement on the student’s faces when they see him in the halls since he rotates between two schools. He works with over 1,200 students from both locations since he works with the same class every 10 days.

CHAMBERS
SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT OF COMMUNITY IMPACT, United Way of Berks County
LIVES IN READING
Ashley Chambers leads the Community Impact team, which is responsible for determining community needs, making investments through grants to address those needs and managing the Ready.Set.READ! early grade literacy initiative. Her role is to oversee all the processes and ensure effective stewardship of the dollars raised to meet these critical community issues.
Greater Reading provides all the excitement of a big city without the hassle, according to Chambers. On some random day, she could start the morning at the gym, then work a full day so she has the evening free for dinner and a show. All this is done without sitting in traffic or worrying that she will not get home until after midnight.
Chambers loves working in the non-profit field. In her previous roles, there was a specific area of focus for the organization whether it be workforce development or after-school activities. What she finds most rewarding about working at the United Way of Berks County is the opportunity to engage with not just one area but the whole spectrum of health and human services.
United Way of Berks County seeks to help people in need and address critical issues to make our community a better place for everyone. Each year dollars raised are invested back into the community through grants to organizations addressing health and human services needs. Team United organizes activities and lunches throughout the year for team building.
United Way of Berks County is part of the larger United Way network that provides professional development opportunities throughout the year. What’s great about being a part of the network is learning best practices from counterparts in other communities. The organization encourages staff to seek out opportunities of interest and promotes cross-training across departments.
Vera HEMPEL
CO-FOUNDER AND CEO, KissUX
CO-FOUNDER, Cactus Club Creative
Kuba KERNER
CO-FOUNDER AND HEAD OF PRODUCT, KissUX
CO-FOUNDER, Cactus Club Creative
As co-founders of KissUX, an application prototyping tool and Cactus Club Creative, a digital design agency, Vera Hempel and Kuba Kerner spend most of their time brainstorming about customer discovery and talking through the many aspects of the application design tool they are developing, scheduling meetings with partners, advisors and product testers to refine the product vision.
The Berks LaunchBox has been instrumental in launching KissUX’s prototype by providing so many resources, such as grants, connections with industry experts and funding opportunities, giving feedback on their pitch deck, and helping them find testers and connecting them with potential clients for their digital design agency.
For anyone thinking about founding a startup Berks County, Hempel and Kerner recommend contacting local university incubator programs, such as the Penn State Berks Launch Box or the O’Pake Institute at Alvernia University. Everyone from these institutions is truly passionate about startups and economic growth in the area, which is inspiring, they said.
Hempel and Kerner said the most rewarding thing about being part of the Greater Reading community is people’s openness and willingness to help both personally and professionally. Everyone is excited for startups to establish themselves in Berks County, and to be part of such a supportive network of professionals has been a great experience.

As a Radiologic Technologist, Cassandra Noray rotates between the emergency department and operating room — doing portable imaging throughout the hospital. She typically works four, 10-hour shifts.
The most rewarding aspects of Noray’s job are knowing she’s coming to work every day to help make a difference in the quality of care the patients are receiving and making sure she takes good quality x-rays. This allows the radiologists to make accurate diagnosis and treat the patients properly.
Originally from the Reading area, Noray attended Alvernia University. After obtaining her degree, she enrolled at the Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences. Noray says that there is a lot of opportunity in Greater Reading, “You just need to find what fits best for you.”
Noray says Reading Hospital/Tower Health has a very positive and inclusive work environment. She gets to work with a lot of different people from a lot of different backgrounds, and they all get along and work well together.
