Gracedale staff member tests Positive for COVID-19 submitted by BECKY BARTLETT On March 27, a staff member at Gracedale Nursing Home tested positive for Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19. As of March 27, no Gracedale resident has tested positive for COVID-19. Gracedale is working with the PA Department of Health and following all recommended protocols. An isolation ward has

been prepared should any of the residents begin to show signs of the virus. Residents and all employees at the nursing home are regularly monitored for signs and symptoms of COVID-19. All staff and residents have their temperatures checked multiple times a day and every resident has their vital signs, including oxygen saturation, measured at least once a day. Gracedale was closed to volun-

teers and visitors on March 11. by ERIN FERGUSON Villa Grande, located at 225 W. Northampton St. in Bath, decided to give back in a “grande” way. On Thursday, March 26, owners Rinor Tominaj and Erfan Tominaj, brothers, donated 50 large pizzas to Lehigh Valley Health Network Muhlenberg to show their gratitude to all the hard-working doctors, nurses, and staff during the current crisis our nation is facing. “We were planning on donating somewhere and the hospitals, the nurses, doctors, they are the true heroes of this thing. If anyone needs food, it’s them,” said Rinor. “I don’t have money to offer, but food, I can offer that, so we decided to offer it,” adds Rinor. Villa Grande has been in business for over 35 years and started with Rinor and Efran’s parents in Long Island. They brought their business here to the Lehigh Valley in 2010 and this has been their home ever since. “We are happy to help the people of our community,” comments Rinor.

On top of the donation they made to the hospital, they are also offering families in need slices of pizza, whole pies or pasta dishes, but this is strictly for those in need and should not be abused. “If there is a family in need, children in need, we are willing to help them. If they want a pie, a pasta dish, a slice, all they have Continued on page 5

Gab Over by Pete The Fence G. Ossip Hi gang, how is everyone holding up? We’re hangin’ in there at The Home News. It’s important to us to keep some sort of connection between our readers and communities. The president announced earlier this week that the coronavirus shutdown will be extended to April 30. The stay at home order was extended to Northampton and Lehigh counties last week... At time of print, there are over 4,800 confirmed coronavirus cases in PA...Schools will now be closed until further notice. Looks like some of the kids started schooling at home on Monday... Did you see the piece on the news where a guy from Northampton went to the Giant in Coplay while it was open for those 60+ years of age...and walked around, giving shoppers $50 gift cards for

Giant? He handed out almost $1000!... The Cherryville Turkey Hill was robbed last Thursday night, they caught the robber the following night as he was driving around the same vehicle and appeared to be in the same clothes… I heard something about a water rescue Sunday night near Lafarge, not sure what happened though...Last week marked a year already of the fire at Seemsville Pub & Grille. Time sure does fly don’t it?...The Klecknersville Rangers are seeking the public’s help in obtaining some hard to get items at the moment: Thermometers, Tyvek suits and N95 masks. Help them to help you... Lotsa coronavirus relief scams going around the public right now, be vigilant folks. State police ask that people stay alert and not provide personal or financial information to anyone over the telephone or through email... Lots of businesses are offering curbside pick-up to customers and lots of restaurants are donat-

ing food to local medical facilities. I spoke to my good friend Mr. Ed Pany yesterday who is well and keeping busy with... you guessed it..writing! We appreciate all the content Mr. Pany supplies us. I loved school but I think I learn more about local history from Ed’s columns!... The Moore Township Board of Supervisors will hold a teleconference for their April 7 meeting. The Borough of Nazareth is holding an executive session virtually/remotely on April 6... not sure yet what other boroughs and townships will be following suit...A quick note about Nazareth businesses, updates on Nazareth businesses, hours of operation and specials being offered can be found at nazarethpanow.com and the Nazareth Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook page. Well gang, I think that’s it for me this week, I’m off to make some lunch. Stay safe and healthy and I’ll see you next time.

Natural perspectives For the health-minded individual

Immune Defense

They say the best defense is a good offense. This is absolutely true yet the converse is also as valid. That being, the best offense is a good defense-immune defense-for our discussion. Amidst this pandemic 2020, both offense and defense are paramount for us to get over this and move on. At the moment, lines between offense and defense may seem a little blurry. In fact, what I feel we need to do at this time is “throw a lot of rice against the wall and see what sticks”! To this end, I feel a true blending of many areas need to be taken into consideration. I have received and reviewed numerous correspondences from local, state, and federal health agencies putting forth actionable steps to minimize, reduce, slow down and/or eradicate this pestilence that has come upon us. Yes, we need to social distance, shelter, hunker down and all the rest. Some are even saying that Bigfoot has been right all along in staying away from us humans. In addition, we truly need to follow strict hygiene protocols that include washing, cleaning, wiping, scrubbing anything and everything (and I do mean everything) on a consistent basis. Clearly we wash our hands, face, and bodies, yet do not minimize common touch point areas of our lives such as steering wheels, phones, door handles, toilets, faucets, eyewear, garage door openers, arm rests, cups, containers, toothbrushes, and just so much more. Not to be left out is avoiding sneezing into the wind or on other people. I was first told that as a younger person and my granny also told me not to sneeze under my shirt onto my chest. Humorous but true. She was a wise woman. I see we are supposed to sneeze into our elbows which appears to be good advice until you witness the sideways spread that ensues. Trust me; your dog will not be happy with this technique. While all this is well and good, have you really heard anyone speaking from a position of knowledge and authority on raising up your body’s natural defense mechanism i.e., your Godgiven immune system? Ladies and gentlemen, if you want to buttress yourself and your family against what’s occurring, then how can you not address the most important aspect in your arsenal? You had better include your body’s defense in all tactical areas. Without such, you are leaving the front door wide open to attack Now I cannot make your body invincible, yet I do know how to help you to help your body have the best fighting chance it can. I do not say this flippantly. Yes, we each have our unique

by DR. GLENN CLEARIE, DC

issues that are kinks in our armor (AKA defense systems) if you will, but by golly the basics are more than likely the absolute necessary steps you need to take right now. So what are they, you ask? While I cannot tell you all in this article I can direct you to our email; northamptonchiro@ rcn.com. Send us your name and email contact and I will have my staff send you videos, related articles, and ongoing materials that I have sent out to hundreds of my patients and those who are in my Integrative Health Plan (IHP) club and perhaps thousands more during these challenging times. Clearly, this event is and has already changed us all. At the very least, allow me to state it has changed me. If I ever had any reservation about speaking succinctly about what patients need to do for their lives to be healthier, I have shed that veneer. Simply put, your development of an essential offense and defense strategies has to begin once and for allit’s just not for debate anymore. If you are satisfied with overthe- counter pharmaceutical made, media-driven synthetic garbage as the core of what you feel is your body’s best defense, then so be it. For the rest, I am calling you to arms. I’ll help as much as I am able. For the record, this pandemic makes me extremely uneasy-I am taking this seriously. I also believe this may very well be the first wave of more to come. It all happened when we were busy making other plans. I’ve decided I am going to proceed forward no matter what. If I have to do so with apprehension or fear, then so be it. That’s what I am going to do. Email me your information and I’ll do my best to include you. My best always. Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber Announces Relief fund

by HOME NEW STAFF On Monday the Lehigh Valley Chamber announced a COVID-19 relief fund for Lehigh Valley businesses and nonprofits made possible through a partnership created by The Chamber and BB&T, now Truist, along with business leaders, Tom Groves Equinox and David Jaindl, creating a grant pool of $150,000 available, $2,000 per business, to help with rent, payroll and other operating expenses for those who were hit hard by the COVID-19 crisis. “We’re hearing from businesses and nonprofits on every main street that they’re trying to hang in and hang on. We’re all in this together and have been dealt a real economic blow, but we’re on our feet and fighting back,” Chamber CEO and President Tony Iannelli said. The $150,000 grant has already sold out. The Chamber plans to offer a second grant once funds are secured. Questions pertaining to this can be sent to jessicao@lehighvalleychamber.org.

open seven days a week, 11 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, until 10:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from noon to 8:30 p.m. on Sundays. During this time, they are offering delivery with the option to leave your food at your front door if you choose for them to do so, or curbside pick-up, call ahead, pay by credit card and they will bring your food out to you.

“We don’t know anybody personally at the hospital, but we have catered for the doctor offices there before and we decided to give back to them. It’s the least we could do, and we are happy to support them during this difficult time,” Rinor says. During these uncertain times, it is nice to give back when we can, and Villa Grande did just that.

submitted by RONALD YOUNG The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that the Department of Homeland Security has postponed the enforcement date for REAL ID from Oct. 1, 2020, to Oct. 1, 2021, in response to COVID-19 and the national emergency declaration. PennDOT closed all driver and photo license centers on March 16 and paused REAL ID issuance in the state out of an abundance of caution and in the interest of public health. Centers will reopen no sooner than April 3. PennDOT also sent a letter to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, requesting that the agency consider extending the Oct. 1, 2020 REAL ID enforcement deadline. "We are very pleased that the Department of Homeland Security has listened to our concerns, as well as the concerns from our fellow states regarding the need for a postponement on REAL ID enforcement in the midst of this national emergency," said PennDOT Acting Secretary Yassmin Gramian. Stories from my heart by Cynthia Jean DeLuca My Dear Ethel

I need to start at the beginning, creating a picture of a cat still touching the hearts of those she allows into her circle. It all started a little over 16 years ago, a few months after I put my beloved dog, Sammy, down. My heart was broken, and I was looking to help it heal. The art teacher at the school I was teaching at and I would chat about our love of animals. She was there when I lost Sammy. When I was ready for a new addition to my family, she was the person I went to. I asked her to let me know if she knew of a family that had kittens. A few weeks later, she told me about two little kittens, one orange tiger, and one Tortoise Shell, who were the last two of a litter. It seems that the young kittens had been abandoned. I knew right there and then I had to check them out, especially the orange tiger. You see, I only was interested in adopting one kitty. Little did I know how those two little kittens would touch my heart and change my mind. I went, met the family, filled my cardboard cat carrier, and headed for home. I was in love. After seeing the two little ones curled up together, I knew that I could not separate them. Lucy and Ethel came home with me. Now how to explain two kitties instead of one. It was an easy sell. I chose to believe on that day, the angel of kittens whispered in my husband's ear. He welcomed them both. I must tell you that from the beginning, the kitties hid from any visitors. They only came out to my husband and I. Now, I could fill up page after page about the antics of kittens, but

I would like to set the scene for two extraordinary events that changed my life with the help of two grown cats. The first event happened about ten years ago. Both cats always enjoyed exploring in the attic and showering me with silk flowers. I would often find them here and there throughout the house. Well, during a tough time in my life, both Lucy and Ethel started bringing me angels. One day I found one next to my shoe. Then they started showing up everywhere. Even on my pillow. In the beginning, I honestly thought my husband was bringing them to me until the night I caught each one of my sweethearts coming down the attic steps with an angel in their mouths. I still have those angels in a special bag to remind me of two loving cats. A little over six years ago, I had to put my orange beauty down. Lucy was diagnosed with liver cancer. Once again, my heart broke. Little did I know that my heart would hurt even more in the months to come. My mother was diagnosed with a fast-growing mass in September of 2013. After some discussion, and the sad news, that she was terminal, Mom came to live with me. With the help of Hospice and my family, we kept our mother as comfortable as we could. My sweet little Ethel who always ran and hid from visitors, walked bravely down the steps, into the parlor where Mom's bed was and proceeded to visit with each family member. During the day when it was just Mom and I, Ethel would sit by Mom for hours. I couldn't believe it. Then on the night that my beautiful, loving mother was getting ready to take her journey to heaven, Ethel was there. She never left her side. The morning after Mom passed, this precious cat climbed the steps, sat on the top-level and cried and cried, like her heart was broken. I choose to believe that the angels filled Ethel with the courage she needed to help all of us during that challenging time. I am going to end my story here. There is not much more to say, only that animals are a gift from God. I believe that Ethel not only helped my Mom in her time of need but indeed helped each one of us. Thank you, my sweet Ethel, for loving me to this day. You are my little sweetheart. My angel sent from above. I wrote this story for all those who have a pet that brings them joy. Animals are a gift from above. They are to be taken care of and loved unconditionally. Although Ethel is not as spry as she once was, the love in her eyes fills my heart with hope and love.

10 ways to Help small Businesses Everyone in the Lehigh Valley is affected by the crisis situation going on in this country. I sit and think about what is happening to all the folks who lost their jobs, those who are helping the homeless and what our new life will look like after this is over. In my case, we are taking care of my 94-year-old mother-in-law. She's doing okay and understands the situation, but she lives alone so we have put things in place for her to facetime with her grandchildren. We go food shopping, deliver the food, I cook for her every weekend and more. Then I think about the small businesses and restaurants. So, what about small businesses and restaurants? Yes, there are small business loans and the new buzz word "curbside," but what about the employees who are now laid off, how will they survive? Top 10 ideas for helping small businesses and restaurants: 1. Purchase "curbside" from a restaurant - check out their menus on Facebook. 2. "Like" their Facebook pages. 3. Invite at least 20 of your friends to like their Facebook page.

Sermonette Serving

by Franklin L. Homme What do you think serving the Lord is? We know this is something commanded in the Bible, but at times we’re just not sure what to do. Sometimes, Christians think that living as God desires is just too difficult. Can you relate? Are there times in your life when it seems like you are failing more than succeeding at obeying the Lord? Often, we don’t think we are adequate for the task. Or perhaps we’re so busy with all other duties and responsibilities that we have trouble finding the time or energy to serve God.

4. Share their posts with your friends. 5. Comment on their posts. 6. Purchase gift cards, (some are real deals). 7. After you open your curbside food, take a picture, post on your page and tag the restaurant. 8. Ask your friends to support local during this crisis. 9. Purchase spirits from the local distilleries. 10. Give a shout out to the local distilleries who are making sanitizer for those on the front lines. After listening to the news and dealing with the unknown, helping others helps us to not feel helpless. Get up every morning and take time to think about how you can help someone, and then, let's just do it. There is a concept in the scripture that offers us hope. One of the most popular verses, (Gelation’s 2:20) says, “I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.” This is an amazing description of our union with Jesus. Instead of looking at ministry through the lads of obstacles blocking our path, let’s see what God says about it. True service is not something we do for the Lord, but something He does through us. This pattern was set for us by Jesus Christ Himself (John 14:10). Before we can appreciate what Christ has done for

us, we must realize that because of Adam and Eve’s disobedience, every human being enters this world with a sin nature. God demands obedience for us to obey-no Jesus the only one who can remedy this situation (Luke 24:29). When we finally realize that the Christian's life is not selfeffort but self-replacement, we will begin to experience victory over sin. We should consider all that Christ has done for us. He proves all we need to life. The Christian is response of gratitude and obedience to love, in the love of death of Christ for us. That’s why we trust and obey Him and follow godly. I have learned that God is my trusted friend with whom I can talk to about anything. Spending time with God gives us a clean picture of things, and you gain strength, and we can serve Him better.

Unit at Northampton County Prison Quarantined as A precaution

submitted by BECKY BARTLETT As of Monday, March 30, there are no reported positive cases of COVID-19 at the Northampton County Prison among the inmates or the employees. “We are pleased that, to date, our aggressive measures of limiting visitation and volunteer access to the NCP have been successful,” says Lamont McClure. “We remain vigilant and we are extremely proud of the NCP administration and especially proud of our hard-working corrections officers.” A section in the prison is under quarantine after an employee working there reported a symptom. That employee was sent home and is awaiting the results of a test for coronavirus. As per the regulations of their healthcare provider, PrimeCare, the prison is keeping that unit quarantined.
