By KERI LINDENMUTH During their meeting on Wednesday, June 16, the Upper Nazareth Township Board of Supervisors granted final conditional approval to JVI, LLC for the development of a warehouse property on Gun Club Road. The doctors of Horner's Cemetery Submitted by PEGGY MOSER Not too many people can say they had four doctors in their family, but that is exactly what the Humphrey family had. Doctors Edward, William, Charles and Robert Humphrey are all buried at Horner's Cemetery. Brother Thomas Humphrey joined the Union forces in the 15th Regiment Cavalry. He was exposed to tuberculosis during the war, and died at home afterwards. None of the doctors in the family could save him. Dr. Charles H. and his wife, Elizabeth (Stanton) Humphrey, were born in Northampton County and lived in Cherryville. During the Civil War, Charles was an examining surgeon. For over 60 years, he practiced medi-
cine in Cherryville. Dr. William J. and his wife, Ellen (Mushlitz) Humphrey, were members of the Presbyterian Church by Horner's Cemetery. He was a mason in Slatington and a Republican, as well as doctor and surgeon. Dr. Robert Humphrey graduated from the University of Penn. He practiced medicine in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He retired there, and moved back to Cherryville. He only had nieces and nephews when he died. Dr. Edward was born, practiced medicine, and died in Cherryville. He married Elizabeth Hays, of the Hays family who owned the Weaversville Hotel. They had five children. Matthew McHenry served in
the Revolutionary War as the surgeon of the Provincial Ship Montgomery in 1776. His parents were Rev. Francis McHenry and Mary Ann Wilson, daughter of Hugh Wilson of Wilson's Blockhouse in Northampton. Dr. John Boyd was married twice. His first wife was Elizabeth (Brown) Boyd. She was related to Gen. Robert Brown. His second wife was Nancy (Clyde) Continued on page 2
