Remaly barn. Photo by Larry Oberly.
This week Larry Oberly is visiting some of the remaining barns in East Allen Township. Some of these barns are found on productive farms as part of the township's agricultural heritage. There are many more, but today we’ll talk about three. The barn on the Seiple Farm along Nor- Bath Boulevard was built after the Civil War and
is a favorite of many who visit for strawberries, pumpkins and Christmas trees. The Remaley Farm barn sits back off the road along Snyders Church. The Walnut Street Farm was once owned by the PA State Hospital System, which operContinued on page 3

Northampton Borough Bath Council swears in Farmers’ Market, Junior council member New for 2022
Submitted by CAROL BEAR HECKMAN The cooler weather reminds me that farmers’ markets seasons will soon be coming to an end. The last day of the 14th year of the Bath Farmers’ Market is September 24. That day will be Customer Appreciation Day and the market will be giving away free grilled hot dogs as a ‘thank you’ to our patrons. We also want to thank Keystone Cement Company for being our 2021 sponsor. And it will be the final day for Sarah Fulton, our market manager for the last six years. Applications are now being accepted for the market manager position and we hope to have the vacancy filled before the end of the season. Contact Sarah at bathmarketmanager@gmail.com for a job description and more information. That’s not all that will be new for 2022. The market will be moving into the center of town at the clock park on Saturday mornings from 9 a.m. until noon. There is free off-street adjacent parking in a macadam public lot (for vendors and customers), plus adjacent on-street parking. And the site is highly visible. Called Monocacy Creek Park, the location is at the end of Race Street, a half block from the present site. All the traffic to the present Continued on page 7
By KERI LINDENMUTH Ryleigh Tillotson, a junior at Northampton Area High School, is looking forward to bringing a fresh perspective to Northampton’s Borough Council. The Third Ward resident was sworn in on Thursday, September 2, as the borough’s junior council member. “I am glad I can try to make [Northampton] a better place for people my age and older,” said Tillotson. She has been a borough resident her whole life and the closeknit community has played a pivotal role in who she is today, she told members of council.
Tillotson will be fully involved in council meetings. She can participate in discussions, ask questions, and give reports. However, she will not be able to vote. “I hope you develop a thick skin,” joked Councilman Anthony Lopsonzski, Sr. He added Continued on page 2

Discover Catasauqua
Submitted by NANCY THATCHER Did you know that Catasauqua is referred to as the birthplace of the Industrial Revolution in America? While many people are aware
of the mansions found throughout the town, most don’t know the history behind their owners and the industries that they founded. Join Lehigh Township Rails to Trails and the Bertsch-Hokendauqua-Catasauqua Watershed Association on a walk around the town. Mansions will be viewed, industries will be discussed and the importance of and effects upon local waterways will be ex-

that he hopes Tillotson can bring back issues important to her fellow students. “We are like a family,” borough manager LeRoy Brobst told Tillotson. “We argue sometimes but we all get along...It is so nice to have a fresh perspective.” Tillotson may be very busy sooner rather than later. Council already expressed interest in her helping with a future borough newsletter and with the community garden. In other news, Brobst and members of council praised public works and first responders for their help during September 1’s flooding. The borough experienced significant flooding along Canal Street, as well as downed trees on Laubach Avenue. “The response was exceptional,” said Brobst. “Thanks to the police, fire department, public works, and the fire police.” Brobst added a special thank you to NASD Superintendent Joseph Kovalchik for serving as a traffic monitor to help direct school traffic around Laubach. “Kudos to everyone who was out there getting all of this done,” said Councilman Kenneth Hall. “When these things happen, you do not realize how much first responders come into play,” added Councilman Ronald Glassic. During the September 2 meeting, council also praised the work of Code Inspector Keith Knoblach. Response rate for rental inspections in 2021 has been 96.3%. In addition, 17 charges were brought against a property owner on Dewey Avenue for a rat infestation. The property owner

I hope everyone had a nice Labor Day. Pen Argyl had their 86th Annual Labor Day Parade on Monday, lots of surrounding fire departments participated in it. What a perfect day for a parade it was...On Tuesday morning there were protests in front
of Nazareth Area High School to oppose the statewide mask mandates. I read that the protestors were saying some profanity which administrators reported and the profanity was upsetting the children from the elementary school right across the street...Protestors told local news that they’d be speaking loud and clear at the next board meeting so we’ll have coverage of Nazareth’s next school board meeting for you... Repairs and construction continue on Northampton’s bowling alley, Hampton Lanes won’t open until the new year but Hammerhead Lounge is going to open soon, they’re hiring if you’re interested. The Northampton Street Fair is this Saturday, maybe we’ll cya there. Saturday marks the 20th year since the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. I’m gettin’ forgetful as I get older, so I’m not sure if I mentioned this already, but there is going to be a remembrance ceremony in Nazareth on Sept. 11 at 9 a.m. in the Circle for anyone that would like to attend. There will be patriotic music and Pastor Derek

Patriot Day
by FRANKLIN HOMME Patriot Day is coming up September 11. It is a day we will never forget. Just what does the word “Patriot” mean? When we look it up in the dictionary, you find the meaning but it means much more to the men and women who served; military, police officers, emergency first responders, fire fighters, and to all hospital employees who saved lives in the hospital and hours there. And I think we all say, thanks for your service. When was the last time you thanked any one of these people for their service?
So what does it mean? One who loves their country and zealously supports its authority and interest. Also, it is a person who is inspired by patriotism-love for or devotion to one’s country. Now I believe we can say a police officer, firefighter, and military personal; and being I was from a military family (my five brothers and I served and five sisters married veterans, we all were dedicated to our country and with pride). And we all know that the nurses had to be dedicated to their job. I was a veteran and I also worked and did hospital work; I love my job and enjoyed working with patients. For the past 20 years I have been volunteering in some field in hospital work. I will soon have 20 years volunteering for veterans. In hospital work you better love your job and be dedicated. This is not about me, however, this is about the men and women who did their very best to save lives on 9-11. And the two planes that came down on that day; a day we will never forget. And a president who had to make a decision on what to do to protect Americans. So sometimes we say presidents made the wrong mistake – maybe we should not make a decision until we are in their shoes. With God’s help I am trying not to say anything bad about anyone. If we can find something good, don't say it. In the military there were many heroes, and in the Bible as well. Someone said, “If there were no wars, there would be no heroes.”
www.HomeNewsPA.com
How true. No one would be honored with medals or purple hearts. And on 9/11 there was wickedness; the crime, the cruelty, the accidents and the sorrows that happened that day. Some of our presidents fought in wars, who were noted for their courageous leadership and exemplary veterans who dedicated themselves to serving the U.S. Army soldier Desmond Doss saved many soldiers’ lives who were wounded; we can list a great number of Waterloo is called in what is now Belgium, not to forget in WWII Army trained 29 Navajo Indians (called windtalkers) they figured out the enemy’s code. Charles Whittlesey, awarded the Medal of Honor for his bravery in WWI. We remember in WWI the narrator said that if Britain’s casualties in “the war to end all wars” – they paid the ultimate price, we know war is costly. These are only a few so let’s remember those who have died in 9/11-the police officers, firemen, and all service men and women and all hospital workers who are all heroes. Also all the men and women who were inside the twin towers that day. A word created in 1923 by Frederick Stanley Mockford, is a word well known and something we didn’t want to hear again- “Mayday-MaydayMayday” – so the situation will be clear (Psalm 86: 7) and understood as a life-threatening Continued on page 7

In addition to its central location and increased visibility, the park also has small trees for shade, permanent benches, trash containers, curving brick paved walkways, the town clock and the Monocacy Creek. emergency. The word “Mayday” is from the word m’aidez, which means “help me” (2Corinthians 1:4). In the likes of 9/11 and other wars, if there were none of these, we would have no choice between right and wrong. We could not prove our love for God, nor our sincerity of our profession of faith. If there were no failures, there would be no victories in beginning anew to do better. The four chaplains were known to be “heroes” in WWII, their ship got fire on and they gave up their life jackets for others to live-bravery marks their saga. Love, however, defines the gift the four offered. Paul urged such love of all believers (1 John 4:7) – (1 Corinthians 16:14).

NOW HIRING!
The Northampton Area Chamber, proud partner of the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce, invites you to join the fun and festivities at Uptown Northampton Street Fair on September 11. With all the elements of a great street festival, Uptown Northampton returns to Main Street with a bang. With craft and business vendors, live music, food trucks, children's activities such as rock climbing and pony rides, giveaways, and more, Northampton is clearly ready to fest again. "2020 forced us to reschedule last year's event to May 2021," said Kylie Adams, Assistant Vice President of Affiliated Chambers for the Greater Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. "While our 'Mini' May festival was great and offered a light at the end of a very long, dark pandemic tunnel, Northampton has proved that we are ready to be back in full force. The community felt the absence of our annual event last fall; it felt like a loss of a time-honored tradition, despite how understandable a change in schedule was under the circumstances. May offered a taste of what is in store for September, and we're ready to move forward – the 11th will bring more vendors, more activities and more action for Uptown!" The festival, which will feature nearly 90 vendors and food trucks, is returning on September 11, and will feature rock climbing from LV Rocks, pony rides, ax throwing, two beer tents, photo opportunities with the Mario Andretti Indy Race Car, demonstrations from Elite Mixed Martial Arts (elitemmactr.com), tours of the Roxy Theater and live music from Kendal Conrad (www.facebook.com/kendalconradmusic) and Third Hand Acoustic (www.

Natural Perspectives For the health-minded individual
Normal Health Forgotten
by DR. GLENN CLEARIE
I am so sick and tired of all the news outlets constantly promoting the effectiveness of Vitamin D, Zinc, Vitamin C, exercise, and vegetables as having some possible benefit with regard to Covid. All they ever do is talk about getting your body in better shape to be able to handle this virus and all illnesses when and if they come knocking. When will they stop this “fake news?” The health of your body has nothing to do with it. I am thinking about starting a petition that would insist that all news media outlets stop discussing the importance of drinking water as well. I am also kind of upset that all they ram down our throats is the importance of sleep and addressing stress through various non-medical, nor pharmaceutical ways. Don’t they know that the only way we can save mankind is with drugs and gene-modifying experimental injections on a regular ba-

sis? Nothing else but medicine works and it's time they stopped pretending. If anyone thinks that a natural approach can in any way protect or bolster you from disease, they need to be called out for the fools they are! We follow science. We follow the data. We know that synthetic man-made drugs, fake food, and Frankenstein-like products of all types are so good for you and in fact, are so much more superior than our immune defense system. Somebody needs to go to jail for believing that your body can really even help itself at all. It’s all crazy talk. Am I right or what? By now my hope is that you realize what I wrote was in jest. In this upside down world where wrong is right and good is evil, I couldn’t think of a more appropriate article to write. The truth of the matter is that neither official government health agencies nor mainstream media have given more than lip service to how you can help yourself. At the very least, if and when you do get Covid, maybe, just maybe, your body will be in a healthier place from which to respond should you prepare beforehand. The saying, ‘an apple a day…” is worth noting here. The saying isn’t, “a serving of drugs per day.” To the point, while you may need medicine, why in the world wouldn’t we also be promoting the importance of improving the health of every citizen's Godgiven body? From my perspective, our medicine would then have less to do. Could you even imagine if the news channels signed off every night by reminding everyone to make sure their vitamin D levels were north of 50? That alone could perhaps save lives. Maybe if we took off soda and garbage energy drink commercials and replaced them with clean water commercials, we could have healthier people collectively as well. Now I am not sure any of us will know whether eating healthier and taking supplements can help us as much as we would
like, yet it sure wouldn’t hurt. Sunshine wouldn’t be bad either. Nor modest exercise of some type. While it may be true that there is only so much your bodily systems can do to protect you, the same also can be said of the authoritarian nanny state and
