Frank Csencsitz, of Northampton, with Lt. Gen. George Patton’s Third Army, from Normandy to Germany. These events were listed in a daily log written by Capt. L.L. Capron, Third Army. Their march started in Normandy through many towns and cities: St. Lo, Chartres, Marne River, Reims, Verdun, Metz, Luxembourg, Saarlautern, Frankfurt, Ha-
gen, Schweinfurt, Winterburg, to list a few. From June 15, when his unit landed in Normandy, they faced combat in some cases for days until an area was cleared of Germany. In December 1944, they were in Luxembourg. In Medernach, Luxembourg, they faced continual shelling, engaged the enemy and cleared the area. In January, S.Sgt. Csencsitz would Continued on page 2

It is hard to imagine driving a Jeep with wounded men to safety, with shells bursting around you! S.Sgt. Frank Csencsitz would be awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Cluster for his heroic action. The fighting continued in Luxembourg. In reading the unit log, Capt. Capron and Lt. Neill were constantly going on recon missions very close to German lines, so they could alert their units on enemy movements and gun emplacements. In one of their recons, Lt. Neil suffered a broken collar bone, wrist and possible other injuries. Soon, another Northampton boy joined the unit. Sgt. Mike Benetsky, wounded in earlier action, was awarded a Purple Heart. He also was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster for his actions. In March, the unit crossed the border and entered Germany, with a mission to defend bridge at Messerich. the bridge. It flew faster than anything they ever saw. What was it? A ME262, the first jet propelled aircraft appeared late in 1944, too late for the Germans to gain control of the air. Speed max was 560 per hour. Germany was only able to build 1,430 planes. Many built with slave labor in underground bunkers. The few ME109s, 190s continue to bomb the unit until the closing months of the war. Page after page of the unit log listed air attacks on unit positions. “On March 26, Miller, Weisman, Slavot attended Jewish Passover services. Army chaplains provided religious services for all faith during the platoon’s long march to Germany, comforting the wounded and dying. “By March 29, the unit cleared the suburbs of Frankfort and ended German resistance, taking control of the bridges and airport.” April 1: “German soldiers in civilian clothes surrendered, 53 prisoners. As we moved through Germany, there was a constant flow of German soldiers surrendering. They realized the war would soon end.” In two weeks: “Mit Hitler Im Westen.” Follow The Home News

Awarding of $225,000 In Livable Landscape Grants and well-being of our residents Submitted by BECKY BARTLETT Lamont McClure, Director of Parks & Recreation Bryan Cope and Conservation Coordinator Sherry Acevedo presented four Livable Landscape grants to County Council at the June 16 meeting. County Council approved all awards for a total $225,000. Livable Landscape grants are open to institutions of Higher Education, authorized organizations and county municipalities. Eligible projects include land preservation, ecological restoration, acquisition of municipal parks and planning, education and outreach for management of critical habitats, open space and natural areas. “It’s important that we support our municipalities in expanding and improving their recreational properties and open space,” says Lamont McClure. “The pandemic has shown us how crucial parks and trails are to both the health
and our wildlife.” “Livable Landscape grants expand opportunities for local recreation as well as giving municipalities the chance to install green infrastructure such as riparian buffers, wild flower meadows and native plants,” says Bryan Cope, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation. The grants received a unanimous vote from the Northampton County Parks, Recreation and Open Space Advisory Board at their meeting on June 16. 2022 Livable Landscape grant awards $20,000 to PA Parks & Forests Foundation for Henry’s Woods Stream Restoration at Jacobsburg Park $100,000 to Wildlands Conservancy for Bushkill Stream Restoration in the City of Easton $75,000 to the Borough of Tatamy for Trailhead crossings $30,000 to East Allen Township to update the Township’s Comprehensive Park, Recreation & Open Space Plan.

Natural Perspectives
For the health-Minded individual
Course-correction Conversation by DR. GLENN CLEARIE, DC
cussed. After some time to consider I was surprised at just how much truth was revealed in our backand-forth expression of viewpoints. That’s when it hit me; together we were “course-correcting” so that we can stay on the right path. Maybe better said, my wife was gently course-correcting me. Looking back on our family’s journey together, our marriage, I can see countless little coursecorrections that have helped us get to the place we find ourselves today. Should a pilot be off one degree and never correct course mid-flight, the plane would find itself very far away from where the desired destination was supposed to be. Am I right? I was speaking with an individual who in younger years made a significant real-life mistake. He is still suffering through his decisions and the consequences have been numerous these many years
later. This person expressed, not lamenting, that oh how he wished he did not travel down the path he did. In essence, through his now-mature eyes, he imagined where he would be today if he was firmly course-corrected back during that time. When I was younger nobody called anything course-correction. My brothers and I called it “daddy’s leather belt!” Appropriately so, by the way. I am thankful and grateful for his and my mother’s guiding hand. Today I encourage you to consider where you can gently course-correct towards better health. Have a talk with yourself and perhaps someone who deeply loves you. Take such matters to heart today so you have clear conscious and able-bodied days ahead. You are worth it. My best. “Natural Perspectives” is a health commentary only and does not claim to diagnose and/ or make treatment recommendations. Always seek the advice of your health care professional.
I was listening to a Christian FM radio station just the other day. The husband/wife team were talking about many marriage-related issues and Scriptures take on it all. The topic of a wife respecting her husband clearly caught my attention. I will tell all the ladies out there (from my masculine viewpoint and taking care of and knowing men of all ages), I can validate the notion that respect is really what we desire. Should our wives demonstrate genuine respect, it changes us. We walk differently. We talk differently. We essentially become better men, husbands and fathers. Yes, we are even healthier, both mentally and JOIN US FOR THE physically. I’ve felt this innately and seen it time and time again. SACRED HEART JOIN USPARISH FOR THEPICNIC!!! formerly accepted the submission at the meeting with a Keystone Engineering review letter dated May 19, 2022. Since they were not at the commission’s June meeting, the applicants will be required to submit an extension, and Secretary Jason Harhart will give them a courtesy call to let them know in the coming week. A letter to extend Nico DelSerro’s major subdivision application to November 11 was denied due to the request being in the middle of the month and also because the commission has not seen any activity since the Board of Supervisors denied their request for substantial relief. Instead, the Planning Commission
voted to give them an extension until August 31 and will need to see a new submission by the July meeting or their plans will be denied. The Water’s Edge at Wind Gap/Southmoore Business Center land development submission was also unanimously granted an extension by the commission until October 31. The Moore Township Zoning Hearing Board is due to meet Wednesday, July 6 at 6 p.m. in the Moore Elementary School multipurpose room, located at 2835 Mountain View Dr. to discuss the Water’s Edge at Wind Gap Industrial Development for Warehouse Use property proposal appeal of the determination of the Zoning Officer and challenges the substantive validity of various sections of the Township Zoning Ordinance.

Muschlitz Excavating was also granted an extension of time to October 31 by the commission following a Keystone Engineering review letter dated June 23 discussing the land development’s septic system, storm water drainage, and additional parking spaces that will be needed for compliance. Owner Jack Muschlitz is proposing a 1,960 square foot two-story office expansion facility at 615 Moorestown Rd., which will be located at the rear of the facility. They will be adding storm water management and an additional 20 parking spaces for approximately 60 total parking spaces for the size of the site. Muschlitz has also encountered an issue with establishing a required screen dimension since PPL Electric Utilities cut down trees on the property due to the trees being in the high-tension power line easement back in 2008. When Muschlitz originally built their building in the early 2000s, they were required under the ordinance to plant a buffer yard of trees between

their building and their residential neighbors, which they properly did. Since PPL Electric Utilities removed the trees that provided the buffer, their proposed addition requires them
to re-establish the buffer yard. Secretary Harhart explained that the neighborhood concerns were primarily centered around wanting to know when the trees would be put back up. Chairman Becker stated that Muschlitz will have to work with PPL Electric Utilities because a buffer needs to be established. Township Engineer Kevin Horvath added that certain plantings are required or allowed within the easement, but not underneath the wires. His suggestion was that it would be helpful to show where there would be some alternate plantings to provide substantial buffering, which would be a step in the right direction. Harhart stated, “If PPL Electric Utilities does not allow Muschlitz to plant a buffer yard in that area, they will have to ask for a variance in front of the Zoning Hearing Board.” Under old business, the agritainment/agritourism zoning ordinance was brought up for further discussion, which was sent with notations by Township Solicitor David Beckenstoe to the Planning Commission by the Board of Supervisors after they discussed it during their April and May meetings. The ordinance would help struggling farmers to augment their income and be able to continue farming. Backenstoe added that some of the possible options would be for farmers to host private weddings, gatherings, wineries, corn mazes, and petting farms for entertainment and tourism purposes that would supplement additional income. Backenstoe prepared a draft for the commission to review based on the similarities of the township to the North Whitehall agritainment/agritourism zoning ordinance and added that the township can review the draft and decide whether they would like a more comprehensive or less comprehensive ordinance. Planning Commissioner Judith Rodwin stated that she has not done economic research on the subject and would like to do so before formally voting on anything. The township commission will continue the discussion on the agritainment/agritourism zoning ordinance next month. Next, the Planning Commission continued the discussion regarding the Moore Township Land and Environmental Protection Board’s request to update the ordinance to include the Land and Environmental Board in the review process. Thomas Roberts from the Land and Environmental Board expressed that this process would allow an extra set of eyes to ensure the preservation of lands. However, Chairman Becker felt this added review would slow down or even add an extra month onto the submission application process. Continued on page 11

Planning Commissioner John Wetzel stated, “I argued against this before since the SALDO is already comprehensive, so it is unlikely that we miss anything.” Rodwin chimed that she would like to investigate this further and the commissioners decided they will continue the discussion next month. Township Engineer Horvath also requested that the commission make a motion to have applicants provide email addresses for electronic correspondence on the application forms and to have applicants submit full plan sets in electronic digital format along with standard paper plans, which was approved unanimously. Last, Chairman Becker sadly informed the commission that he will be resigning from his position at the end of the year because he has other issues he needs to deal with. He will be presenting the Board of Supervisors with a formal letter at their next meeting. The next Moore Township Planning Commission meeting will be held Monday, July 25 at 7 p.m. in the municipal building, located at 2491 Community Dr.

Continued from page 5 and I thought to myself, how beautiful. Then, as if on cue, a variety of songbirds perched among the trees began singing their magical songs. As I looked up searching for the choir, I noticed a beautiful white cloud that was shaped like a round, plumped pillow. I sighed and thought to myself, how wonderful it would be to curl up on that while pillow and float around the world. In my heart I wanted to heal hearts along the way. As my eyes followed the soft pillow, I saw three long, white clouds that constantly changed. At first, they reminded me of three graceful ladies, holding hands swaying in the sky. Like a flash, the three clouds came a bit thinner and more transparent. Right before my eyes the swaying ladies separated, still keeping their shape, but became more elongated. A horn blew and demanded my attention, then as I gazed back up to the heavens, there they were, three angels with wings, looking as if they were dancing slowly across the sky. At that moment, I remember smiling as a peace filled my heart. I knew for certain who had orchestrated this day – the one and only. I wrote this story because I know there are many like myself, who are struggling with sadness, and who are worried about the state of our world. God knows exactly what is going on in our lives, in our hearts and in every corner of the world. From starting with the day of the week, the extra warm day, a floating breeze, the choir of songbirds singing, to soft white clouds that resembled three angels, God in His wisdom knew that it was time to answer my prayers of finding peace.

Konkrete Kids Educational Foundation Awards Grants Submitted by CLAUDIA SHULMAN The Northampton Area Konkrete Kids Educational Foundation’s Board of Directors has awarded nine grants totaling $43,336 to the Northampton Area School District for the upcoming 2022-23 school year. Three grants were awarded to the elementary schools, three went to the middle school program, and three were awarded to Northampton High School. The Foundation funds grant requests submitted by district teachers and administrators. The grants enhance the quality of K-12 education throughout the district by extending learning opportunities and co-curricular experiences for the benefit of the entire school community. The Foundation, established in 2009 by a group of community volunteers, is an organization
whose primary goal is to support and finance innovative programs that enhance the quality of education for NASD students. Since its inception and with the addition of the recently awarded nine grants, the Foundation has given over $146,000 to the Northampton Area School District. Funding for the grants is made possible by local businesses and individuals who generously support the Foundation’s annual golf tournament held in June, the Distinguished Alumni Award Celebration scheduled for September 25, the memorial paver project, and the other fundraisers sponsored by the Foundation. For additional information about the Foundation, becoming a Foundation volunteer, and sponsorship opportunities, please go to www.konkretefoundation.org.
