Woman’s Club of Slatington submitted by BECKY LIENHARD

The Woman’s Club had their November meeting at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, 40 Second St., Slatington on November 20th. The guest speaker for the November meeting was Sheryl Roland who spoke about the Fascinating Honey Bees and Bee Keeping. It was a great informative meeting and fun for all! It isn’t too early to think about the Woman’s Club Art’s Contest in April 2018 held at the Slatington Public Library. The club is sponsoring a juried art contest, both two & three-dimensional and photography contest. Also, this year, a coloring

contest for Pre-k thru grade 2 plus a coloring contest for adults. Look for additional information at the Slatington Public Library during December. It should be fun! The December 18th meeting of the Woman’s Club will be a celebration of the Holiday Season. We will have a cookie & gift exchange along with members demonstrating their Holiday crafts. The meeting is opened to women 18 years and older and will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church @ 7:00 PM.

St. John Neumann Students Present their State Projects

The 7th and 8th grade students of SJNRS recently presented their state projects to the whole school. Wow, were they exploding with knowledge! Each student chose a state that interested them to do research on and learn more about it. On each poster board that the students made they had to present certain information. This included a picture of the state flag and explanation of how it came about, state information such as the state bird, animal and flower. A map had to be drawn in the center of the poster board portraying the terrain and landscape of the area, shown with different colors. Students also presented research on famous people that

originated from that state and major events that happened there. They did an excellent job presenting the states of Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Virginia, New York, Ohio, Alabama, Maine, Texas, California, Colorado, Montana, Oklahoma, Alaska and Hawaii. The students presented the states in the order of which they joined into the United States Union. St. John Neumann Regional School is located in Palmerton and Slatington. Call today to learn more about our school, (610) 826-2354! Our students are Achievers!

O Holy Night (A literal, non-metrical translation of the Dutch) Holy night in which the Lord [is] born, Oh, holy night that gives the Savior to us! Long was the world lost in sin and guilt, But God's Son took the power from Satan. And he will be the hope to bring new life, [For] in Jesus breaks the eternal morning. Fall to your knees, Oh hear the angels sing, Oh, holy night, when Jesus comes to us. Oh, holy night, wherein the Savior comes! And from that light that shines in our faith, Our heart is led to the crib. See also the star, which leads all men, It has powerfully touched the Magi. Even our songs will sound jubilant, We sing to You, take your love-reward! Lord of all the world, how we will first sing, When we [are] before your heavenly throne, When we first sing there before your throne! And this here Child wants to teach us love, His yoke is gentle, his burden not too heavy, He will fight off death, the chains of sin, And give joy, where hearts are empty. The kingly Lord lies poor in a crib, In Jesus, God takes us on as children. See that love; our lips praise you, In the dust now, we worship gratefully, In the dust now, we worship Jesus.

O Holy Night! (J. S. Dwight’s original metrical translation) O holy night! The stars are brightly shining, It is the night of our dear Saviour's birth. Long lay the world in sin and error pining, Till He appear'd and the soul felt its worth. A thrill of hope, the weary world rejoices, For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn. Fall on your knees! O night divine, O night, O night Divine. Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming, With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand. So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming, Here come the wise men from the Orient land. The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger; In all our trials born to be our friend. He knows our need, to our weaknesses no stranger, Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend! Behold your King, Before Him lowly bend!

German translation of Dwight’s “O Holy Night!” by Johannes Haas in 1966. To show how the meaning can change from one metrical translation to the next, I included a literal translation of the Dutch along with Dwight’s original version.]

Truly He taught us to love one another; His law is love and His gospel is peace. Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother; And in His name all oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we, Let all within us praise His holy name. Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever, His power and glory evermore proclaim. His power and glory evermore proclaim. ["O Holy Night!" is a well-known Christmas carol composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the French poem, "Minuit, Chrétiens" (Midnight, Christians), written in 1843 by wine merchant and poet, Placide Cappeau . In 1855, Unitarian minister John Sullivan Dwight, editor of Dwight's Journal of Music, created an English version based on Cappeau's French text. Indianland Garden Club News submitted by BEVERLY PUTT

Last March, the 4-H Sprouts were invited to the club's regular March meeting and the young members learned how to make terrariums. As a community outreach, the club has given support to their club. 4-H is a national program that helps young people develop knowledge and skills and they participate in various activities and events. It is a youth development program of the cooperative extension system. Many of the Penn State Extension Service master gardeners have led programs for the garden club over the years. This month, Kathy Heist and Anita Brosky attended the 4-H annual banquet and accepted an award on behalf of the garden club. Creating Joy for the Holidays submitted by BRENDA RHODES

The holidays are such a great time of the year to celebrate with friends and loved ones along with creating new memories and lots of laughter. There are a lot of stressers that can hinder the season if we let them.

TIPS TO MAKING THIS HOLIDAY SEASON JOYOUS AND BLESSED. 1. Be Aware of Family Dynamics: At times

family members can push buttons, bringing out negative emotions and in some instances, be hurtful or mean spirited. Create healthy boundaries and don't engage in conversations that may negatively heighten emotions or increase stress levels. You don't have to respond in the moment. The issue can be discussed at a latter time. Realize you are not responsible for what people say or do.You may not be able to control the action of others; however, you have the power to control how you respond. You can leave the room for a few minutes and take 10 very deep breaths to reduce your stress. 2. Don't over schedule: Say "no" to those things that aren't so important. Give yourself extra driving time. Avoid last minute shopping. Get out your to-do list and calendar, write down the things that are important and get them on your schedule. 3. Keep healthy habits: Get enough rest. Eat well. Enjoy the wonderful holiday food. Give yourself permission. Just don't go back for seconds. Make sure you move your body, whether it's a walk around the block, a trip to the gym, dance around the house, etc. Preserve time just for you everyday. Five minutes to breathe deeply or meditate does wonders for a clear mind. 4. Be Aware You Can Choose Joy: Spending a little extra time planning for a joyful holiday season can make all the difference. It is possible to have a wonderful, healthy, and enjoyable holiday

“Travel Along With Becky’s Camera”

season, with little stress. Make the choice to be joyful. Put on some holiday music, a smile on your face and remember to empower yourself with joy.

LIGHTEN YOUR LOAD EXERCISE

When negative thoughts weigh you down, close your eyes and imagine each thought turning into a bubble in your mind and floating out the top of your head. Feel tension floating away with the bubbles, leaving your spirit and mind lighter.

It Doesn’t Need to Be This Way

It gets me upset to see someone in public that I know can be helped by chiropractic. I know that I know that I know that if they were just adjusted they would feel so much better! But what am I to do? Chase them? I understand that you feel the same way as I do. If you see your spouse, friend, or a family member who is hurting and know they need help, TELL them they need to see if chiropractic can help them.
