From The Editor’s Desk. It’s hard to believe how fast this year has been going. It’s already our Memorial Day issue. In honor of the holiday and our Veterans, I’ve included a few articles that a local man, Woody Osman, found in his father’s WWI writings. I think you’ll find them interesting, I sure did. There are a lot of Gazette readers and local people I’ve had the opportunity to speak with who hold Veterans’ causes close to their hearts, with family and friends serving in the military either past or present. I hope that all of you, especially, enjoy this issue. With Memorial Day also comes the unofficial ON OUR COVER: Cover Photo by James Benetzky. The May meeting of the Lehigh Township Lioness Club was held recently at the Blue Mountain Drive-In in Danielsville. Members and guests enjoyed the dinner and meeting. Aubrie Eaton, a senior at Northampton Area High School was honored as the outstanding Lehigh Township student. Her mother, Angie Eaton, and grandmother, Mary Lou Walck, were also in attendance. Aubrie listed all of the activities she is involved in at school and the community and told about her plans to further her education. Aubrie's mother and grandmother were presented with flowering plants and Aubrie received a gift from the Lehigh Township Lioness Club. Giving recognition to an outstanding Lehigh Township student, along with a gift, has been an annual tradition of the club. Speaker for the evening was Mary Ann Endy, a Lehigh Township resident, who spoke about her salt and pepper shaker collection. She displayed many of the unique sets in her collection. She started collecting salt and pepper shakers in 1966 and has a large variety of sets in her collection. She explained how she acquired various sets and shared interesting information pertaining to her hobby. Pat Amey, Louise Rabenold and Beverly Putt were in charge of the program. The next monthly meeting will be held on June 7. Installation of new officers will take place in June.

It is hard to believe it has been a year since we have been together. On May 15th 2011 I left this earth physically but never spiritually. Hun, I am with you every day and hope you realize it. I am alongside of you every trip to the cabin and in the sunroom where I love to be. Toby and I are together and he misses you as much as I do. To my son and daughter I am still keeping you safe as a mother should and giving you guidance even more than ever. I am the wind on your face when you hunt and the special ingredient when you are in the kitchen. I miss you and love you both so much. My precious grandchildren I miss you all three so much. You are growing so fast. I am the sunshine on your face when you play soccer, I hold your hand in Drama Club and I wrap my arms around you tightly every night you go to sleep. I know you are sad and miss me but remember I am with you always. For my Son-In-Law and Daughter-In Law I am so thankful you became part of our family and the time we shared together. You both are such special spouses and parents that I smile upon you both often. My friends and other family you made my life on earth complete so do not be sad that you cannot see me. Remember all we shared and loved and that one day we will see one another again. Love from heaven, Susie

JOE’S
Summer Movie
run-down
By Joe Korba The Avengers - *** out of 4 – Starring Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L. Jackson. Directed by Joss Whedon. The latest comic book adaptation brought to us by Marvel and Disney is, hands down, the best and most fun superhero movie to date. Yes, that even includes The Dark Knight. Nerd auteur Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Cabin in the Woods) handles the film’s large ensemble cast well, with snappy, funny dialogue and excellently directed action sequences. Almost all of the actors are great and seem to be having fun with their roles, the possible exception being Scarlett Johansson, who is rather lifeless as Russian spy turned Avenger Black Widow. Mark

Robert Downey Jr. & Chris Evans as Iron Man & Captain America. Courtesy of Marvel Studios Ruffalo, who replaced Edward Norton as Bruce Banner, the scientist who turns into the raging Hulk when angry, is excellent and reportedly already in talks to be the marquee name on a new Hulk film. However, Robert Downey Jr. once again steals the show as playboy billionaire Tony Stark aka Iron Man. Tom Hiddleston is no slouch either as Thor’s evil brother and main nemesis Loki. The Avengers is everything that is good about fun, popcorn, summer flicks and will be hard to top this season. Between this movie and The Dark Knight Rises, coming in July, this summer might mark a turn around for a slumping movie industry that has seen decreasing revenue for four consecutive summers. If it does it will be thanks the rise of superhero films like The Avengers, which were once scoffed at for being too lowbrow. I think the world is ready for some heroes.

Police Chief Retires After 23 Years
Fun Time at Daycare
While mom and dad are off at work, the children at Teddy Bear Daycare in Berlinsville are enjoying and learning from the many events they have at the center. The Easter Bunny stopped by on April 4th and provided the children with an exciting egg hunt. He stayed for snack time and played games with the children afterwards. Later in the month, the children had a visit from Ruthie Asmus of the Center for Vision Loss. Ruthie conducted free vision screenings for the children and shared some new technologies with the children. She also brought along C. Well Bunny, her puppet, who spoke to the children about eye safety. Bussing to Northampton, Northern Lehigh and Palmerton school districts will resume in the fall.
Jeff Schuler, Chief of Police in Lehigh Township since 1981 is retiring. Chief Shuler has been an integral part of the department and is going to be missed by his coworkers and the community. Chief Schuler served the Township with honesty and integrity and these characteristics reflect on the department as a whole. The announcement came in February and a surprise party was held for him in April. The Township is currently in the process of interviewing candidates to fill the position. The photo was taken at the 23rd Annual Lehigh Township Benefit Festival and Car Show on Oct 3, 2010 held at Becky’s Drive In.

My crew gave these ribs a unanimous thumbs up! Cindy is right -- this dish may look and sound complicated at first, but you’ll find it is pretty easy to prepare. Documents of War: A WWI Vets’ Papers Reveal Human Side of Conflict By Joe Korba
A month or so ago a local man, Woody Osman, dropped by my office to show me some interesting things he found while going through his late father’s possessions. Mr. Osman’s father, Clarence M. Osman, was a Sergeant in the Army Infantry during World War I. Among the artifacts were two articles. One, a poem about Siberia written by an obviously discontent soldier about the time he spent there and another article by 1st Lt. Joseph Kopecky, MC, who was a medical officer for the company. These fascinating articles shed some light on the state of mind of the men who served with the American Expeditionary Forces (AEF) in Siberia during the First World War. Woodrow Wilson sent the AEF to Russia during the October Revolution at the end of WWI during a time of civil war and unrest throughout the Empire. Their mission was, among other objectives, to secure the military supplies the U.S. had sent the
Russian government in support of their war efforts on the Eastern Front. They were also there to help stabilize the country and to rescue the 40,000 men of the Czechoslovak Legions who were being held captive by Bolshevik (communist) forces. By all accounts the American’s experience in Russia was miserable. The AEF was ripe with logistics problems, failing equipment and suffered near constant sub-zero temperatures. It’s important to remember the historical context and the mindset of the soldiers who wrote these pieces. The poem, Siberia, is strongly worded and might be offensive to some, but it surely captures a moment in history. Mr. Osman’s father’s documents are originals as far as I can tell from my research. Both were written on typewriters and the story of Misha the bear still has editing marks on it, leading me to believe that it’s a rough draft of an original text. I hope you enjoy and learn from these texts. Read Misha's Story on page 21. Siberia poem on page 50.

The Story of Misha By Joseph Kopecky M.D.
During the first part of June, 1919, three platoons of Company M of the 27th infantry were stationed as follows: Mostovoi, commanded by Lt. Nelson Selenga, commanded by Lt. Faulkner Posolskaya, commanded by Lt. Kendall Captain Ramsey was in command of Company M, and I, 1st Lt, Joseph Kopecky, MC was the medical office in charge of the medical needs of the sector. Captain Ramsay and I were stationed at Selenga, approximately half-way between Mostovoi and Posolskaya. One morning, Captain Ramsay and I were walking down the street in Selenga, and we saw a group of Russians in front of their homes, and we saw that the center of interest was a baby bear. We learned that the mother and the brother of the baby bear had been killed by the Russians earlier. It was quite obvious that Misha, the bear, was not having an easy time. He was obviously undernourished and had been otherwise neglected and abused. Captain Ramsay suggested that he buy the bear and let the platoon look after it. So, the Russians got 100 rubles, paper money (about $1.00), and the platoon got a mascot. The bargain turned out to be a very good one; it put an end to Misha’s hunger and eased the boredom of the soldiers of the platoon. During the summer, the platoon lived in tents on the bank of the Selenga River, and Misha did not have to be on a leash and had the freedom of movement. When cold weather set in, the platoon moved into a building that had previously served as a school building. Lt. Wenegerg and I moved into a small, two room shack, and Misha crawled into a space beneath the floors of the shack. He was still not on a leash and was free to move up and down the village street. In the first part of January 1920, orders finally came in for us to leave the village and start our evacuation. As we were packing our stuff, Corporal Gorges, who seemed to always have had the primary responsibility for Misha, came in rather excited, “Sire, what are going to do with Misha?” I said, “ I don’t think we have very much choice. We’ll just have to leave him here.”
Corporal Gorges looked rather distressed and said, “If we leave him, the damn Russians will kill him and eat him up!” I told him “I don’t suppose I need to tell you what to do.” He then saluted and said, “Yes, Sir!” Next morning, after we arrived in Verchne Udinsk, Gorges and I went to see how Misha stood the trip. His long hair was covered with frost, and he was not in a very good humor. Everything went alright then until we finally received our orders to proceed to Vladivostok. Misha arrived in Vladivostok. When, about the middle of March 1920, orders finally came for the 27th Infantry to leave Siberia for Manila and I approached the transport that was waiting for us, I noticed that Misha was already waiting, near the transport, to go to Manila, too. The soldiers had built a cage, and there he was waiting in this to be put aboard. Evidently, there was some argument about this. If I remember rightly, the captain of the transport said he didn’t want that damn animal on his boat, and the engineer said that he was the one who would say what was going to go on and what was not. (It is possible that I have this reversed.) At any rate, there were about six soldiers waiting for the decision, and once it was, it certainly didn’t take long for Misha in his cage to be lifted aboard. As we sailed southward to Manilla, the atmosphere became warmer and warmer, and it got to the point that where Misha was very uncomfortable with his long-haired fur on. Corporal Gorges again came to me to inform me of the situation and wondered what could be done. About the only thing we could do was to take him out on deck, get two pairs of scissors and relieve Misha of his long hair. This seemed to settle the problem, and he arrived safely in Manila. We spent eleven days in Manila before starting for San Francisco, and one of the last thing I did, was to see how Misha was getting along. I found that he was well taken care of; he was lying in a nice pool of water, keeping cool. As I called, “Misha!”, he ran toward the fence that was in between us, and we told each other good-by. I was sure that Misha would miss his platoon, and that the platoon would miss him. He was a very intelligent, gentle , and cooperative animal, and he played his part in decreasing the boredom of at least some of the American soldiers in Siberia.

Kreidersville Covered Bridge Festival & Challenge
KCB Challenge 10K & 5K Race ( 2011) – KCBA photo
Tractor Pulled Hayride -Linda Santucci/KCBA photo The Kreidersville Covered Bridge Festival will be held on June 2nd and 3rd and is a jampacked weekend of family fun as well as adult entertainment. The festival will take over the normally tranquil feeling of the Covered Bridge and surrounding park area. With a musical theme of 1960's the festival will feature everything from R&B to Motown, British Invasion to Rock and even Country Classics. Live musical performances will be held all weekend long and are set to include the Large Flowerheads among other local favorites. The normal events will accompany the festival this year, as well as few new features including a Canine Athletic Field which will host agility groups, a historic demonstration area in honor of the Kreidersville Covered Bridges 173rd birthday with the 153rd Pennsylvania Regiment as well as blacksmithing, sawmilling, sheep shearing, quilting, garden railroading, coal truck hauling demonstrations and exhibits and more. The festival also features the Lehigh Valley Homebrewers and Hijinx Brewery, A children’s area featuring the Lehigh Valley Zoo on Sunday, a one of kind pie and cake contest, food, fun and a whole lot more.
On Saturday, the now annual KCB Challenge 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk will be held. Participants can expect a scenic and challenging race. The first and second place overall winners and winners in their age/gender categories will receive a gold or silver newly designed and absolutely unique fused art glass sun catcher gold or silver medal created by local artist Erica Biery from Glass by Erica. Registrants will receive blueprint t-shirts to commemorate the event. To Register visit www. kreidersvillecoveredbridge.org or active.com. In addition, a retro blueprint of the Kreidersville Covered Bridge will be unveiled at the Festival. Building on measurements and CAD work done by Northampton resident Bob Krill, Spillman Farmer created a retro print in old-blueprint style, celebrating the real beauty of the KCB not its redpainted sheathed exterior but its beautiful internal structure. Free parking, free entry, free entertainment, and free exhibits and demonstrations will continue all weekend. The Kreidersville Covered Bridge Association invites everyone to come to the Festival and help support the Kreidersville Covered Bridge, the last covered bridge in Northampton County.

Extra Point by Tyler Trumbauer
Track and Field Results
All schools from the Colonial League and the Lehigh Valley Conference competed in their league playoffs for track and field events on May 8 and 9 at Whitehall High School. The days were long and grueling for the athletes that got to participate in the intense level of competition. The athletes that succeeded at this meet advanced to the next level of competition which is the District 11 track and field meet. That meet is another twoday event that took place May 16 and May 17. If you aren’t too sure about how scoring happens in track and field, here is a brief overview. The individual athletes get points and compete in their own events, but how they finish helps their school. Each school is then competing against all the other schools in a points system. Also, each scoring system is divided by gender. In the CL meet for the boys held on the 8th and 9th, Palmerton finished tied for second with Pen Argyl at 70 team points. Northern Lehigh finished eighth with 55.5 and Northwestern had 36 points
and got twelfth. For the gentlemen in the LVC, Parkland finished second with 114 points and Northampton took sixth accumulating 47 points. For the ladies of the CL, Palmerton won it all with 130 points. Northwestern took fifth place with 68.5 points. The lady bulldogs of Northern Lehigh finished ninth with 22.5 points. In the LVC, Parkland earned the sixth spot as they worked for 53 team points. Northampton had 29 points, which got them tenth. Stay tuned to my Twitter account (@ tylertrumbauer) and the Gazette Facebook posts for results from the District 11 meet. Athletes from School’s in and around our coverage area will be participating in the event. Track and field doesn’t always get the respect and the publicity it deserves. The athletes that compete in these specialized events spend hours working on their one event. It is different from other sports as there is just one certain item that track and field competitors need to work on. These athletes will get their time to shine this week as they will be competing in the District 11 meet at Whitehall High School and if they achieve success they will be moving on to the statewide meet. e-mail: extrapoint@townandcountrygazette.com Twitter: @tylertrumbauer Facebook Updates: Town & Country Gazette

Please call the office for directions or more information , a full listing can be found on our website at townandcountrygazette.com New Pastor at Slatington United Presbyterian The Reverend Laura Stone is currently serving as the temporary supply pastor of The United Presbyterian Church of Slatington. She is newly ordained, and brings a special enthusiasm to the pulpit. Reverend Stone has written a brief biography to introduce herself to the Northern Lehigh Community. I am blessed and happy to be sharing in ministry with the congregation of United Presbyterian Church. I was ordained as Minister of Word and Sacrament on March 4th at my home church in Celebration, Florida. That day was, by the grace of God, the culmination of a long journey. I was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, and attended college there as well. I lived and worked in my hometown until I was in my midthirties, when I decided to move to Orlando, Florida and work at Walt Disney World. While working as a training coordinator at Disney, I joined a wonderful faith community, Community Presbyterian, in Celebration, a town just outside of Disney World. It was there that I reaffirmed my faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and promised to participate in the mission of His Church. God brought many people and circumstances into my life at this point to help me discern a call to ordained ministry. With the support of my church’s pastors and elders, I began the process of discernment toward ordination in the Presbyterian Church (USA). The more I asked God, “Is this really Your will for me?” the more God opened doors and removed obstacles. I studied at Pittsburgh (PA) Theological Seminary and completed a Master of Divinity degree in June 2011. It was then that God made the way for me to come to beautiful eastern Pennsylvania.
As part of the requirement for ordination, I had to complete an internship as a chaplain. Right after graduation I moved to Allentown to begin a summer internship as a chaplain to residents at Phoebe Ministries. I continued in the program through the fall of last year, while I began to search for a position as a pastor of a small church. Through a local pastor I learned of the opportunity here at UPC. Again, by prayer and discernment, I sensed God’s call to serve this congregation. God continues to undergird the ministry He has given me, and my hope is that our congregation grows in its ministry to this area in the name of Jesus Christ. Here are some of the fun things that I like to imagine. Can you find and circle them? People are always telling me what a good imagination I have. It’s true that I can make up new puzzles and stories very easily, but so can most people if they give it a try. Children are not the only ones with good imaginations. Adults use their imaginations when they invent gadgets, test new recipe ideas or tell old stories with a new twist. It’s fun to use our imaginations, but we also have to learn what is real and what isn’t. I like to see talking cars in cartoons, but I know that cars don’t really speak. I think some people do not like to use their imaginations because they think it is silly. What do you think?

The manager of a large office asked a new employee to come into his office. “What is your name?,” was the first thing the manager asked. “John,” the new guy replied. The manager scowled. “Look, I don’t know what kind of a namby-pamby place you worked at before, but I don’t call anyone by their first name! It breeds familiarity and that leads to a breakdown in authority,” he said. “I refer to my employees by their last name only - Smith, Jones, Baker - that’s all. Now that we got that straight, what is your last name?” The new guy sighed and said, “Darling. My name is John Darling.” The manager said, “Okay, John, the next thing I want to tell you...”

Horse Soldiers Author: Doug Stanton
Author Publisher: Scribner, A Division of Simon & Schuster, Inc.
Doug Stanton, author of Horse Soldiers, has written one other book In Harm’s Way: The Sinking of the USS Indianapolis and penned numerous articles for Esquire, Sports Afield, Outside, and Men’s Journal. He has been well received thus far and it is my feeling that this newest work will receive the same, or even better, accolades. Horse Soldiers is a true story about our Special Forces, Green Beret, embedded CIA operatives, and other special military/paramilitary elite who were the first to descend upon Afghanistan after 9/11 in search of Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban. At this time, our forces were greeted by the local Afghanis as liberators and friends. The inhospitable terrain and unpredictable weather conditions these soldiers endured, the death and destruction they witnessed daily, and the generosity of the local people, was for many of these elite men a first on foreign soil. These impressions and memories form the basis for the investigative profiles depicted in Horse Soldiers. Doug Stanton conducts personal interviews with some of the survivors, and their families back home, attached to this dubious and dangerous detail. The insight and detailed perspectives these men provided in country were astonishing. The unlikely friendships struck up between Afghani war lords, local peasants, and some of these elite men during their deployment in country are heartwarming. The trust and goodwill they built in the local communities during this assignment will serve as foundation for future diplomacy that will help eventually rebuild this war-torn country, as well as, provide a certain level of confidence for the people of Afghanistan to mount their own stand in fighting the wickedness and destructive nature of the Taliban and Al Qaeda. I’ve never visited a war and only watched it from the comfort and safety of America. Therefore, I cannot imagine how difficult it must have been for these brave people to watch their friends and comrades sustain serious injuries or be killed, or to see the daily death toll of innocents and
loyal supporters in the towns and villages rise, or to come face to face with thousands of people (jihadists) who only want to “kill the infidel”. The fear they must have held inside while executing these incredibly brave and selfless maneuvers while hoping to come out alive, even against horrendous odds, can be like nothing we, here at home, can ever know. Horse Soldiers provides a poignant recount of what these men in service felt at regular intervals during this special and secretive assignment. For a moving and unforgettable account of these first harrowing months in the war in Afghanistan, after 9/11, Horse Soldiers is a must read. I will forewarn you that these accounts are graphic and tragic. However, each page will reinforce your understanding of the destructive and divisive side of war, as well as, the undying bonds and commitments these men have for their fellow fighters and the people they are challenged to help or salvage from the ravages of Al Qaeda abroad. Horse Soldiers should be considered a written tribute to the bravery, dedication, and courage of those elite fighting men under fire. Thank you, brave men, for your service and unwavering commitment toward making the world a safer place for ALL people! And thank you Doug Stanton for retelling their stories! Talk on Stroke
Changes in Behavior, Emotions and Thinking Following a Stroke
Blue Mountain Health System will offer a talk on Stroke: Changes in Behavior, Emotions and Thinking Following a Stroke, on Wed., May 30 at 2 pm in the Bowmanstown Medical Plaza. Speaker, Carla Conarty, BSW, a social worker at the BMHS Acute Rehab Unit, says a stroke can cause many bewildering changes in a person’s emotions and behavior. Suddenly, he or she can seem like a completely different person than before the stroke. In a way, this is true. Stroke survivors’ brains have been injured. The behaviors and emotions they display are a reflection of that injury. Family members may also experience grief as they have lost the previous relationship with the patient. On the road to recovery, it is helpful for stroke survivors and their family and friends to learn to understand and deal with these changes Continued on Page 41

Volunteers Plant Native Wildflowers
Over 30 volunteer scouts and parents came out to the Lehigh Gap Nature Center on an overcast and misty Sunday to plant two hundred native wildflowers in an attempt to encourage one rare species of butterfly to make the grasslands surrounding the nature center a permanent home. The volunteers consisted of scouts and their families from Cub Scout Pack 41 of Bangor, Boy Scout Troop 58 of Allentown, and Boy Scout Troop 261 of Breiningsville. “The scouts did an outstanding job digging holes in the rocky mountainside of the Kittatinny Ridge and adding more native plant diversity to the ecology of the refuge,” said Paul Zeph, Director of Conservation for Audubon Pennsylvania. “It’s a big mountain, but the work being done at Lehigh
Gap shows that we can restore the damaged places and protect the remaining healthy habitat of the ridge if groups, individuals, and municipalities all care about its future and work together with a common vision,” said Zeph. The Regal Fritillary (Speyeria idalia) is a large, orange and black butterfly that was once found commonly throughout the Northeast. It is often described as looking like a “Monarch Butterfly dipped in chocolate.” The only place in Pennsylvania where this butterfly is currently found is at Fort Indiantown Gap in Lebanon County. The restored grasslands at Lehigh Gap Nature Center should make an ideal habitat for the Regal Fritillary, but it needs certain flowers for the larvae to eat their leaves and others to provide nectar for the adults. The seven species of flowers that volunteers planted Sunday will add important native wildflowers that are not only used by the Regal Fritillary, but many other species of butterflies and other insects at the Lehigh Gap Wildlife Refuge. The flowers planted include: Blazing Star (Liatris spicata), Wild Bergamot (Monarda fistulosa), Smooth Aster (Aster laevis), Common Milkweed (Asclepias syriaca), Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa), Brown-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia triloba), and Tall Tickseed (Coreopsis tripteris).

Siberia
Siberia, your ancient Czar Gazed on your horrors from afar And chose for his prison pen A proper home for exiled men. He made you then the dumping ground For all the refuse that he found. Each Nihilist, half mad with hate, Each criminal, degenerate, Each outcast of the Russian race, He sent to populate the place. Today the children that they bored Are as fathers were before. Licentious, idle and obscene, Depraved, uncivilized, unclean. The Chinese came and soon increased, Like maggots at an evil feast, Until their thousands crouch today In every dirty alley-way. And so, Siberia, you stand A barren and accursed land. The odors of our streets foretell The rottenness of those that dwell Within your hard and frigid arms. For in your towns and on your farms Morality has been forgot. Licentious, alone, is sought And virtue, ridiculed, had fled While truth and honesty are dead. Siberia, they sent me here Beneath the flag I held so dear. ‘Tis here that I must do my bit And suffer every day for it. Highmark Foundation. The grant was utilized to purchase heart rate monitors, pedometers, Dance Dance Revolution, Xbox 360, Xbox Kinetic, and various Xbox movement games. Highmark Healthy High 5 has given Slatington Elementary this funding to help the students learn more about healthy habits and behaviors that will continue for a lifetime. The goal of this program is to improve the overall fitness level of Slatington Elementary students while increasing the students’ enjoyment of physical activity. By integrating new technology, the students also gained content knowledge about their own heart rates, improved their overall fitness and found enjoyment while participating in various physical activities.

THE PROBLEM.
THE SOLUTION.
All new and existing masonry substrates are susceptible to water damage and, even if repaired, will continue to deteriorate if not protected.
ChimneySaver is the first water repellent specifically developed to protect masonry chimneys from severe weather conditions.
Protect Your Investment
There are approximately 40 million masonry chimneys in North America and the most common problem with these structures is water penetration. Water causes over a billion dollars in damage annually in the form of staining, loss of insulation value, freeze-thaw damage, deterioration, and ultimately structural failure.
Severe spalling and deterioration is caused by water penetration.
Efflorescence stains caused by water penetration and leaching salts are unsightly and add to deterioration.
Water penetration and freeze/thaw damage result in loss of insulation value and lead to structural failure.
Use On All Masonry Surfaces
Not just for chimneys, ChimneySaver® water repellent is the ideal choice for protecting all residential and commercial above-grade masonry. ChimneySaver is the best solution for a variety of exterior masonry applications including patios, walkways, pool decks, and wall systems.
ChimneySaver is a WATER REPELLENT - not a water sealer. The difference could save you hundreds, or even thousands, of dollars in repairs because sealers can actually damage masonry. Unlike waterproofing sealers that remain on the surface, ChimneySaver penetrates deep enough to protect masonry from destructive water penetration while maintaining the structure’s vapor permeability.
Superior Technology ChimneySaver contains patented siloxanes small enough to penetrate most masonry pores up to 1/4” or more. These special siloxanes form strong bonds with the silica in masonry and concrete. Because of this bonding process, one application of ChimneySaver provides up to ten times the water repellent protection of typical sealers while maintaining the masonry’s breathability. Moisture from a variety of sources is always present in masonry and concrete. Sealers and silicone coatings form a water resistant surface film which traps water vapors inside. If these vapors cannot escape, they will contribute to spalling, scaling, deterioration, and freeze-thaw damage. ChimneySaver is 100% vapor permeable - a nonfilm-forming water repellent that penetrates and lines masonry pores.
100% Breathable • 10 Year Guarantee • No Darkening of Masonry
